The grant will fund Boston Cultural Council subgrants
A
A
This
docket
is
a
message
in
order
authorizing
the
city
of
Boston
to
accept
and
expend
the
amount
of
two
hundred
thirty
six
thousand
four
hundred
dollars
in
the
form
of
a
grant,
and
it
will
be
administered
by
the
Arts
and
Culture
Department,
and
we
are
joined
here
at
this
hearing
by
the
chief
welcome.
Thank
you.
Welcome
I
will
allow
you
the
chance
for
an
opening
statement
and,
if
I
have
any
questions
we'll
go
from
there.
Okay,.
B
So
this
is
part
of
the
funding
from
the
state
from
the
Massachusetts
Cultural
Council
that
comes
to
the
mayor's
office
of
arts
and
culture,
to
be
re
granted
to
arts
and
culture,
organizations,
nonprofits
and
unincorporated
groups
through
fiscal
sponsorship,
and
we
do
grants
of
up
to
five
thousand
dollars
for
general
operating
for
those
organizations
through
an
application
process
and
a
panel
review
process
through
the
Boston
Cultural
Council.
So
the
amount
that
you
just
named
will
be
added
to
three
hundred
thousand
dollars
from
the
mayor's
office
that
comes
to
us
through
our
operating
budget.
B
B
A
B
There's
a
panel
review
process,
so
every
application
is
read
twice
and
scored
based
on
a
standard
application
that
we
use
this
year
is
a
little
bit
different
because
we're
focusing
on
smaller
organizations.
So
in
the
past
any
organization
was
eligible
to
apply
as
long
as
they
provided
some
benefit
to
the
public
through
the
arts
and
this
year
we're
focusing
on
organizations
with
budgets
under
two
million
dollars,
which
means
that
we
can
give
out
a
little
bit
more
money
to
smaller
organizations,
and
that
was
the
result
of
some
planning
that
we
did
after
last
year.
B
B
A
B
We
try
to
improve
our
outreach.
Every
year
we
use
partner
organizations
to
get
the
word
out
grantees
from
previous
years,
who
have
really
good
networks,
as
well
as
our
social
media,
which
has
a
really
diverse
kind
of
grassroots
outreach
to
the
arts
community
and
then
this
year,
because
we're
focusing
on
smaller
organizations,
and
we
wanted
to
think
about
how
we
could
better
support
them
and
really
understand
who
they
were
serving.
B
We
did
ask
specific
questions
about
what
populations
they
serve,
whether
they
work
with
youth,
whether
they
work
with
other
kind
of
distinct
groups
that
they
could
name
like
people
with
disabilities
and
different
immigrant
populations.
And
then
we
do
ask
all
the
questions
that
are
scored
are
about
how
the
organization
is
expanding
and
diversifying
audiences
for
arts
and
culture
in
Boston
was
that
they're
providing
improved
or
unique
perspectives
on
arts
and
culture
to
Boston's,
increasingly
diverse
audiences,
and
then
we
also
asked
what
relevant
experience
and
qualifications.
B
A
Wonderful,
that's
that's
good
to
know,
I'd
be
really
interested
to
see
if
the
response
is
more
diverse.
Based
on
the
questions
that
you're
asking,
let
me
ask
about
the
diversity
of
the
arts,
so
not
so
much
race
and
culture,
but
different
types
of
arts.
How
do
you
ensure
that
your
applicants
will
be
representative
of
a
broad
range
of
the
arts
so.
B
That's
mostly
through
our
outreach
efforts
and
through
some
of
the
language
that
we've
put
into
the
application
we
do
specifically
reach
out
to
groups
who
we
think
should
be
applying,
but
who
might
not
think
that
this
is
for
them.
So
that's
been
one
of
the
biggest
barriers.
Is
that
people
see
the
word
grant
an
organization
and
they
think
that
that
doesn't
apply
to
them.
So
we
try
to
be
really
clear
that
if
you're,
a
collaborative
or
you're
a
collective,
any
kind
of
creative
work
that
you're
doing
can
be
eligible
for
this
funding.
B
A
B
So
we're
talking
potentially
a
hundred
and
fifty
because
this
is
our
first
time
doing
this
format
we'll
have
to
see
how
it
how
it
shakes
out
based
on
who
applied,
but
an
organization
with
a
budget
of
up
to
a
hundred
thousand
dollars
is
eligible
for
a
two
thousand
dollar
grant.
An
organization
between
a
hundred
thousand
and
five
hundred
thousand
dollars
is
eligible
for
a
thirty
five
hundred
dollar
grant
and
an
organization
larger
than
that
is
eligible
for
$5,000.
B
B
A
I
think
it's
really
important
that
we
invest
in
the
arts,
and
so
it's
it's
good
to
know
that
there
is
money
from
the
state
and
the
city
that
can
be
invested
in
that
artists
in
our
community
to
do
so
much
to
make
our
community
rich
and
vibrant,
have
the
resources
or
can
tap
into
resources.
So
that's
wonderful
anything
else
that
you
would
like
to
share
before
we
wrap
up
this
hearing.
I
think
that
concludes
my
questions.
No
I
think
that's
it
wonderful
all
righty,
then
well
seeing
no
one
has
signed
up
to
testify.
