Description
Docket #0934 - A hearing regarding an appropriation from the Cemetery Trust Fund.
A
Calling
this
meeting
this
hearing
to
order-
excuse
me
for
the
record.
My
name
is
kendra
lara
and
I'm
district
6
city
councilor,
I'm
the
chair
of
the
boston
city
council's
committee
on
environmental
justice,
resiliency
and
parks,
and
I'm
joined
this
morning
by
my
colleagues,
counselor
council,
president
ed
flynn
from
district
2
and
counselor
at
large
erin
murphy.
A
This
matter
was
sponsored
by
the
administration
and
referred
to
the
committee
on
august
10th
2022
we're
going
to
be
taking
public
testimony
at
the
end
of
today's
hearing.
If
you're
here
with
us
in
the
chamber,
please
sign
up
on
the
sheet
in
the
chamber
entrance
for
all
testimony.
Please
state
your
name
and
neighborhood
or
affiliation,
and
keep
your
comments
to
two
minutes
joining
us
today
from
the
mayor's
administration
we
have
thomas
sullivan
director
of
cemeteries
for
the
cemetery
division
and
marjorie.
Is
that
correct,
marge
margaret
margaret
dyson
trust
manager
for
the
treasury
department?
B
I
will
watch
the
video
when
I
return,
I'm
I'm
honored
to
support
this,
but
I'm
I
just
want
to
apologize
for
leaving
early,
but
just
wanted
to
say.
Thank
you,
madam
chair,
for
the
important
work
you
are
doing
in
the
administration
team
for
their
important
work
as
well.
Thank.
C
C
C
As
we
know,
the
cemetery
division
does
a
great
job
with
maintenance
and
preservation,
and
I
hope
this
funding
will
continue
the
further
work
there
that's
needed
and
also
the
historic
resource
to
preserve
the
conditions
so
for
centuries
to
come,
so
I
know
the
hard
work
you
do,
and
I
definitely
am
on
record
for
support
of
this.
So
thank
you
very
much.
Thank
you,
council.
Thank
you.
A
Councillor
murphy
and
it's
my
understanding
that
the
administration
has
a
presentation.
Is
that
correct?
Can
we
pull
that
up
to
the
screen.
B
D
Good
afternoon,
we're
here
today
to
respectfully
ask
for
the
release
of
the
bunnies
for
for
a
couple
of
projects
that
would
like
to
help
continue,
operate
and
maintain
the
cemetery,
the
three
active
cemeteries
for
the
city
of
boston,
the
first
being
the
fairview
cemetery.
D
We
request
for
28
thousand
dollars
for
an
expansion
of
the
city,
poor
indigent
section.
We
also
request
the
258
000
for
a
rehabilitation
of
the
mount
hope.
Cemetery,
maintenance
building-
that's
fallen
into
some
disrepair
over
the
years
built
in
in
the
1990s
and
needs
some
love
so
that
it
can
accommodate
the
staff
that
work
there.
E
The
two
departments
involved
in
this
project
will
be
the
parks
and
recreation
department,
its
cemeteries
division,
the
cemeteries
division,
provides
burial
services,
care
of
burials
and
stewardship
of
the
grounds
of
the
three
active
cemeteries,
mount
hope,
evergreen
and
fairview,
as
well
as
16
historic
cemeteries.
The
city
of
boston
treasury
office
includes
the
trust
division.
The
trust
division
manages
all
the
trust
left
to
the
city
of
boston
and
those
established
by
the
city.
The
cemeteries
trust
was
established
in
1961.
E
E
D
Sure
so,
at
the
top
of
the
hill
at
fairview
cemetery,
we
have
a
section
that
already
holds
the
indigent
a
couple
of
hundred
of
them
and
we're
looking
to
expand
that
this
would
include
laying
concrete
foundations
to
line
up
those
graves
blooming
and
seeding
and
fertilization
of
that
property.
E
I
think
also
raccoons,
given
the
scale
of
the
damage
that
we
saw
out
there.
The
work
would
repair
and
rehabilitate
the
roof,
the
gutters,
the
ceilings
and
any
related
work
to
make
that
space
safe
again
for
the
city
maintenance
workers
who
are
trying
to
work
out
of
that
facility.
E
And
finally,
from
the
back
of
the
house
to
the
very
front
of
the
house,
we
are
proposing
the
rehabilitation
of
the
fence
and
wall
on
the
walk
hill
frontage
for
mount
hope.
Cemetery.
This
is
the
face
of
the
cemetery
for
the
community
and
it
is
in
very
poor
repair.
E
A
All
done
all
done,
thank
you
so
much
director
sullivan
and
miss
miss
or
mrs
dyson.
This
is
fine,
beautiful,
miss
texan.
I
have
two
questions.
Is
there
any
time
constraints
or
time
sensitivities
to
releasing
these
funds
in
terms
of
your
process
and
the
timeline
for
making
these
repairs.
E
A
Thank
you,
and
will
this
work
be
done
by
the
city
of
boston
or
are
we
going
to
be
contracting
out?
We
would
be
contracting
okay,
so
if
we're
contracting
out,
do
you
have
an
idea?
What
the
rfp
process
will
be.
I'm
sure
that
you're
aware
that
as
a
city,
we
have
you
know
procurement
goals
in
terms
of
how
many
women
or
minority
owned
businesses
we
bring
in,
and
so
I'm
curious
about
what
your
plan
is
for
the
rfps
for
this
job.
This
work.
E
Sure
so
any
publicly
advertised
work
would
be
done
primarily
by
the
parks
department,
for
any
landscape
work
and
by
the
public
facilities
department,
in
all
likelihood,
for
any
vertical
construction,
including
buildings,
so
their
design
and
construction
units
are
well
aware
of
the
requirements
and
the
aspirations
and
goals
of
the
city
and
work
diligently
on
every
project
to
ensure
those
are
met.
Thank
you.
D
Yeah
no,
I
was
gonna
just
repeat
what
she
just
said:
yeah
beautiful.
A
D
Yeah
I
mean
I
I'm
aware
of
the
council
and
the
mayor's
goals
and
how
that's
been
heightened
in
the
last
year-
and
I
know
commissioner,
woods
and
and
all
of
us
are
in
tune
to
that
and
are
interested
in
following
through
on
those
goals.
A
Thank
you.
I
really
appreciate
that.
I
would
make
a
request
that
if
you
have
any
information
about
your
outreach
plan
for
that
we
would
love
to,
I
would
love
to
see
it.
I
would
love
to
include
it
in
my
committee
report.
Absolutely.
