Mayor Wu joined Governor Maura Healey and Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll to award the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation (JPNDC) the Affordable Housing Support Grant. The grant will be used to fund the construction of 87 affordable homes for low income seniors in two Boston neighborhoods.

Mayor Wu spoke at Barnes School Apartments to celebrate the announcement of a new affordable housing initiative. The initiative involves the acquisition of 114 apartment units in East Boston that will be converted into affordable housing for families.

Mayor Wu is joined by CEO of EMPath Kim Janey and members of the Boston Housing Authority at the Alice Heyward Taylor Apartments to promote the AMP Up Program for low income Boston residents.

Mayor Wu spoke at the grand opening of Colin's Courtyard, a multigenerational plaza built to provide a safe green space for families. Also speaking at the event was BHA Administrator Kate Bennett and Kerri McGrath, mother of the late Colin McGrath whom the plaza is named after.

Mayor Wu joins city officials in Mattapan to announce funding for building affordable homes, and new pathways for first-time homeowners.

In Roxbury, Mayor Walsh and Boston Housing Authority Administrator William McGonagle celebrate the beginning of construction at the Camden/Lenox Housing Development. A total of 72 affordable family units on Camden Street will be modernized and preserved for long-term use. Construction on the 285-unit Lenox Street Apartments is expected to begin in 2020.

Massachusetts has one of the largest public housing portfolios in the country. Orient Heights is a perfect example of both the state's and the city's commitments to the exapansion of affordable housing for communities. Mayor Walsh cut the ribbon to celebrate Phase I of the redevelopment of Orient Heights Overlook Terrace, and announced the $10 million commitment to launch Phase II. The mayor was joined by Boston Housing Authority Administrator Bill McGonagle, representatives from the Department of Housing and Community Development, MassHousing, and the development team of Trinity Financial and East Boston CDC.

The Walnut Park Apartments in Roxbury are going by a new name this week. Boston Housing Authority renamed the building to honor Doris Buntè, former State Representative and Administrator of the Boston Housing Authority. Doris Buntè is a groundbreaking public figure, and was the first woman of color to serve in the Massachusetts legislature. Her career is centered around public housing and equality in Boston.
