From YouTube: Italian Flag Raising 2022
Description
In honor of Italian-American Heritage Month, Mayor Wu joined Councilor Gabriela Coletta and community members for the Italian Flag Raising at City Hall.
A
Today,
to
speak
to
you
all
in
Italian
to
try
at
least
I
hope,
I
didn't
deceive
anyone.
My
name
is
James
Coleman
and
I.
Think
today
is
a
perfect
day
to
start
to
kick
off
of
Italian
American
Heritage
Month
I
am
the
international
Partnerships
manager
for
the
global
Affairs
team
that
sits
in
the
economic
development
cabinet
that
is
headed
by
chief
shoguniru
who's
right
here
with
us.
A
As
a
hobo
Academia
medicine
entrepreneurship,
business
technology,
it
is
to
me
no
surprise
and
to
none
of
us
that
Italians
in
Italian
American
are
an
important
factor
that
contribute
to
the
success
of
America
and,
if
I'm
not
missing
India
about
26
million
Italian
Americans
here
in
Boston,
the
largest
immigrant
group
from
Europe
that
every
immigrated
through
United
to
the
United
States
and
the
Italian
Community
contribute
greatly
to
the
fabric
of
Boston.
That
that
is
why
Boston
will
is
what
it
is
today,
while
by
the
same
time,
never
forgetting
where
they
come
from.
A
So
this
is
why,
hence,
why
we
celebrate
today
the
kickoff
today
as
Italian
American
heritage
month,
I'm
about
I
know
there
are
so
many
elected
officials,
and
so
many
friends
that
I
see
here
but
I'll
leave
that
to
the
Council
of
Coletta
and
Phil
fataroli
that
it
would
be
that
actually
I'm
going
to
try
to
feel
right
now
to
to
to
to
say
a
few
words
and
to
kick
it
off.
B
My
name
is
Philip.
Radaroli
I
have
been
running
this
this
event
every
every
year
for
the
last
seven
years.
In
fact,
the
reason
I
I
care
about
it.
So
much
is
the
first
time
we
did.
It
was
in
2015
and
two
days
later,
my
daughter,
Olivia
who's,
now
seven
are
about
to
be
seven,
was
born.
So
the
fact
that
she
was
born
in
Boston
the
first
time
that
the
Italian
flag
was
ever
flying
from
City
Hall.
It
really
means
a
lot
to
me
and
I'm
excited
that
it's
grown
to
this.
B
So
I
just
I
just
wanted
to
thank
everybody
for
coming.
There's
a
lot
of
members
of
the
Italian
Community.
Here
we
have
our
new
Consul
General
who's,
going
to
speak
and
members
of
the
Commodus
his
his
Leadership
Council
in
in
Boston
I,
just
wanted
to
say
a
quick
word
to
welcome
you
and
introduce
our
mayor,
who
is
a
former
resident
of
the
North
End.
As
most
of
you
know,
in
a
big
big
supporter
of
all
things,
Italian
Michelle
will.
C
C
It's
it's
an
important
part
of
my
family's
Heritage
now
through
through
my
husband's
side
of
the
family
and
we're
so
grateful
to
celebrate
the
long
Legacy
of
what
it
means
in
this
city
to
remember
those
Who
Came
From,
A,
Distant
land
leaving
behind
everyone.
They
knew
what
was
comfortable
and
came
here
for
a
better
life
and
worked
so
hard
sacrificed
so
much
to
pass
on
that.
C
Think
sometimes
we
think
of
our
neighborhoods
today
as
being
unique
and
each
with
their
own
character
and
history.
But
the
reality
is
that
you
go
back
not
too
many
generations
and
our
neighborhoods
were
completely
intertwined
when
it
came
to
Immigrant
families
coming
together,
different
groups
from
cultures
mixing,
and
it
was
garment
workers
in
Chinatown
working
alongside
restaurant
workers,
in
the
North
End
and
and
throughout
this
downtown
area,
and
so
we
honor
their
legacies.
C
We
honor
the
contributions
that
they
have
passed
on
to
us
today
and
that
continue
to
make
our
city
beautiful
and
vibrant
and
reflective
of
the
history
of
of
where
our
ancestors
came
from
so
I
am
really
excited.
Also
I
know
we're
joined.
Are
you
going
to
go
through
the
list
of
like
I?
Don't
want
to
take
away
other
someone
else's?
C
Okay,
Gigi's
gonna
go
through
the
the
list
of
colleagues,
so
I
won't
double
that
for
all
of
us,
but
I'm
really
honored
to
serve
alongside
everyone
here,
and
it's
always
a
treat
to
see
our
colleagues
back
who,
in
their
full
gear.
C
To
remember
how
much
they
have
done
to
to
keep
these
Traditions
alive
over
years
before
we
even
were
serving
on
the
council
and
and
in
city
government,
so
great
to
see
everyone
great
to
see
our
our
former
colleagues
here
as
well,
and
to
the
cons,
Council,
General
and
families
here
and,
and
especially
our
students.
We're
so
excited
to
hear
you
perform
so
I
won't
read
the
whole
thing,
but
I
did
want
to
offer
an
official
Proclamation
marking
the
history
of
Italian
immigrants
to
this
city.
C
C
Thank
you
so
much
to
all
of
the
city
staff
who
helped
put
these
together
as
well.
In
partnership
with
our
community
members,
you
saw
our
quadrilinguals
five
five
line:
six
language,
speaking
head
of
global
Affairs,
James
column
under
Chief,
Edo's
cabinet
to
all
of
the
public
work,
staff
and
property
managed
staff
who
make
sure
that
we
can
bring
back
this
beautiful
tradition
of
raising
flags
and
making
our
Plaza
look
great
as
a
home
to
everyone.
So
thank
you
so
much
for
coming.
D
Thank
you,
mayor
will,
and
good
morning
everybody.
My
name
is
Gabriella
Coletta
I'm,
proud
to
be
a
fourth
generation
Italian-American
representing
East
Boston
Charlestown
and
the
North
End
on
the
Boston
city
council.
D
Good
morning,
but
I
should
say
benvenuti,
my
grand
my
grandmother
would
be
very
upset
with
me
if
I
didn't
say
that,
but
I
am
thrilled
to
be
here
with
mayor
Wu
with
all
of
you
with
the
Elliott
school
who
we
will
hear
from
shortly.
I
can't
wait
to
hear
that
you
all
look
great
I'm
thrilled
to
be
here
as
well
with
my
colleagues
in
state
and
city
government
I'm,
just
gonna
name,
everybody
and
I'll
make
sure
that
I
didn't
forget.
D
Anybody
be
sure
to
raise
your
hand
if
I
did,
but
I
will
start
with
state
senator
Diana,
desoglio
who's,
also
running
for
auditor
State,
Rep
Rob,
consalvo,
City
councilor
at
large
Aaron,
Murphy,
Michael,
Flaherty,
Julia,
Mejia
city
council,
president
Ed
Flynn,
counselors,
Arroyo,
Bach,
Baker,
Riordan
registry
Register
of
Deeds
Stephen,
Murphy,
former
city
councilor,
Sala
matina,
my
predecessor,
thank
you,
Sal
for
being
here
and
former
city
councilor
Mark
siamo
did
I
miss
anybody
did
I
miss
anybody,
okay,
I
think
I
got
it.
Thank
god!
D
D
That's
that's
a
good
excuse
for
not
being
here,
but
I
am
excited
to
be
here
with
you
all
recognizing
October
as
the
start
of
Italian
American,
Heritage
Month
thinking
about
my
district,
specifically
in
our
shared
history,
East
Boston
and
the
North
End
have
always
been
welcoming
and
inclusive
of
communities
and
and
for
Italian
immigrants.
Our
shipyards
welcome
thousands
of
people
from
Italy,
including
my
very
own,
great-grandparents
Alessandra,
Severino
and
Carmine
geda,
who
left
as
mayor
Wu,
mentioned
the
Comforts
of
Home
in
search
of
a
better
life
and
in
search
of
the
American
dream.
D
Italian
Americans,
here
in
Boston
and
across
the
country
prioritize,
giving
back
to
their
community
and
to
others
to
be
civically,
engaged
to
care
for
one
another
through
small
acts
of
kindness
or
charitable,
giving
we
uplift
our
neighborhoods
and
our
neighbors,
because
everyone
is
seen
as
family
in
our
house.
Everybody
is
invited
over
for
Sunday
dinner,
just
don't
refuse
any
food
or
also
get
a
Taqueria
from
my
mom
again
in
my
life,
I'm
very
lucky
to
have
had
mentors
who
are
giants
in
East
Boston,
including
Sal,
La
matina.
D
Here,
who
embodied
the
best
of
us
and
pushed
many
young
Italian
Americans
like
me
into
service.
A
couple
of
other
names
that
I
have
to
mention
is
the
East
Boston
District
Court
Judge
Joseph
farino.
Who
is
a
giant
in
our
community?
He
was
an
incredible
Mentor
for
me,
and
I
want
to
be
sure
to
name
him
in
this
space,
Community
activist,
Edie,
DeAngelis,
the
entire
lorano
family,
Diane,
Modica
and
so
much
more
and
then
in
terms
of
our
history.
D
D
I
say
this
not
to
take
away
from
any
other
group's
struggle,
but
to
merely
remember
what
our
families
went
through
not
too
long
ago
and
just
how
far
we've
come.
So
today
we
are
affirming
what
the
Commonwealth
of
Massachusetts
has
already
done
under
then
Governor
Paul
salucci
in
1998,
and
we
are
raising
the
Italian
flag
here
in
the
city
of
Boston.
As
a
celebration
of
our
culture
and
for
our
history.
D
We
are
celebrating
the
unique
and
beautiful
contributions
of
Italian
Americans
to
the
state
and
to
the
city,
and
we
are
celebrating
our
shared
culture
and
history
while
remembering
and
honoring
those
who
came
before
us
to
ensure
we
had
a
better
life.
So
thank
you
all
again
for
being
here,
I'm
honored,
to
be
here
in
this
space,
I,
look
forward
to
hearing
from
the
Elliott
school
and
looking
forward
to
cannolis,
which
is
open
to
everybody
afterwards.
Thank
you.
Everyone.
B
You
ready,
okay!
So
now
we're
gonna
hear
from
the
fourth
graders
at
the
Elliott
school
from
the
North
End
they're,
going
to
first
sing,
the
the
American
national
anthem
and
then
the
Italian
national
anthem
and
we'll
race.
The
flag.
E
E
E
E
F
So
bonjour
now
good
morning,
so
very
proud
and
excited
to
be
here,
while
the
flag
is
rising
in
this
very
beautiful
day
so
good
morning,
mayor,
who
is
the
man
there,
yeah
Murphy
distinguished
members
of
the
Boston
city
council
and
of
the
Italian
American
community,
dear
friend
and
guests?
Thank
you
for
being
here
in
the
occasion
of
the
raising
of
the
Italian
flag,
marking
the
months
of
October
as
Italian
Heritage
months.
F
B
G
We
appreciate
very
much
for
taking
the
time
out
of
your
days
to
come,
it's
very
important
that
we
gather
Donald
Mara
of
the
lyceum
and
the
Italian-American
Alliance
and
Jim
DeStefano
of
the
alliance
and
Tom
damagella.
G
Of
the
month,
Lino
Rulo
of
Italian
Heritage
Month
committee-
this
is
the
month-long
celebration,
starting
today
at
Boston,
City
Hall,
with
this
wonderful
event,
which
is
growing
in
size
and
will
continue
to
do
so.
But
throughout
the
month
there
are
many
activities
by
many
of
the
organizations.
We
encourage
you
all
to
to
celebrate
the
the
beautiful
traditions
and
and
and
programs
that
have
been
set
forth.
So
thank
you
and
for.
G
It
today
and
we're
all
celebrating
our
heritage
and
our.
G
B
So,
thank
you,
everybody.
You
can
join.
B
Don't
forget
next
year
is
the
40th
anniversary
of
the
sister
city.
