Description
Mayor Janey hosts a press availability with Mayor Elect Wu at Boston City Hall.
A
Has
everyone
good
afternoon
just
want
to
begin
by
offering
my
congratulations
to
mayor
elect
wu,
and
I
want
to
thank
her
for
her
her
partnership
for
her
leadership
in
the
city
of
boston,
all
the
work
that
she
has
done
and
will
continue
to
do
as
the
next
mayor
of
boston.
A
We
just
had
a
meeting
we've
been
engaged
with
transition
work
for
a
couple
of
weeks
now
and
now
that
the
mayor
elect
is
in
place,
we
are
doing
deeper
dives
in
terms
of
the
transition
and
she
and
I
just
had
a
very
productive
meeting
in
my
office,
and
so
we
are
here
to
take
a
couple
of
questions.
Are
there
any
questions
for
either
of
us.
A
You
know
there
are
a
number
of
challenges
facing
our
city.
We've
been
dealing
with
a
number
of
issues,
as
folks
know,
everything
from
battling
the
global
pandemic
over
19
to
making
sure
that
our
city
continues
to
run
despite
the
the
challenges,
and
so
I'm
completely
confident
that
mayor,
elect
wu
is
prepared
and
ready
to
lead
on
day
one.
We
know
that
there
are
multitude
of
issues,
but
I'm
completely
confident
in
her
ability
to
lead
our
city.
A
B
I
just
wanted
to
express
my
my
deep
gratitude
and
excitement
to
be
standing
in
this
room
with
this
incredible
leader
and
we
again
have
been.
This
is
more
of
a
continuation
of
conversations
that
have
been
happening
and
a
deeper
look
at
the
issues
that
are
most
pressing.
That
will
continue
to
move
forward
in
the
next
two
weeks
and
that
we'll
be
ready
to
seamlessly
work
on.
B
How
is
your
day
going?
I
feel
great
I'm
excited
to
be
out
and
about
in
the
city,
and
we
were
right
back
to
work.
We
had
a
great
night
last
night
and
back
today
for
the
city
council
meeting
earlier
a
wonderful
conversation
with
mayor,
janie
and
we'll
both
be
at
the
school
committee
meeting
later
today,
too.
E
Would
you
intend
that
mayor
jamie
started
in
that
which
is
her
approach
right
now
and
specifically,
do
you
plan
to
transition
to
have
more
low
threshold
housing
in
the
city-run
shelters
there
in
particular,.
B
It's
an
important
piece
that
we
discussed
earlier
as
well
the
need
to
ensure
that
we
are
leading
with
a
public
health
approach
and
not
furthering
criminalization
as
every
day
that
goes
by
we
get
closer
to
winter
and
life
or
death
temperatures
for
anyone
who's
on
the
streets,
and
so
we
will
continue
to
be
working
closely
to
connect
residents
with
services
with
treatment,
but
very
urgently
to
establish
that
low
threshold
shelter
that
low
threshold
housing
that's
available
as
a
transitional
point
to
then
connect
to
longer
term
stable
housing.
Let.
A
We
need
a
regional
approach
and
we
need
to
make
sure
that
individuals
who
need
help
are
able
to
get
that
help.
Is
the
city
providing
funding
for
the
transition
effort
and
for
their
elect?
How
soon
are
you
working
out
of
the
building
and
they've
made
a
person's
space?
Well,
I
will
begin
and
then
turn
it
over
to
mayor,
elect
wu.
Mayor-Elect
wu
continues
to
work
in
the
building.
This
is
ongoing
work
and
we
will
be
working
very
closely
over
the
next
two
weeks.
A
B
The
priority
now
is
to
build
out
a
team
that
reflects
all
of
boston.
That
includes
the
expertise
of
our
communities
and
that
is
going
to
move
with
the
urgency
of
the
issues
that
are
at
hand.
So
we'll
continue
to
make
announcements
as
those
names
and
positions
and
leaders
are
established.
But
for
right
now
we're
still
having
conversations.
B
To
hire
well,
we
have
been
talking
all
day
already
about
the
need
to
move
quickly
when
it
comes
to
the
overlapping
crises
of
substance,
use,
mental
health
and
homelessness.
And
so
one
of
the
very
first
tires
that
we're
looking
to
make
is
is
to
establish
a
cabinet
level
position
for
clear
action,
leadership
and
coordination
across
all
of
the
various
entities
and
agencies
involved.
Mayor
janie
has
already
taken
huge
steps
forward
in
terms
of
establishing
that
coordinated
leadership
team,
and
so
our
goal
will
be
to
ensure
that
there's
a
point
person
directly
in
the
cabinet.
B
G
B
B
A
Oh
wow,
lots
of
advice
and
I'm
I
will
share
most
of
that
one-on-one
with
mayor,
elect
wu,
but
what
I
would
say,
while
there
are
still
a
lot
of
challenges
facing
boston,
we've
done
important
work
over
the
last
18
months.
There
are
great
people
in
this
building
who
do
incredible
work
through
all
of
the
difficulty.
It
is
so
important
to
make
space
for
joy,
and
so
I
hope
you
do
love
and
enjoy
the
work
as
much
as
I
do.
A
B
There's
a
new
day
in
city
hall
with
so
many
leaders
coming
in
who
will
be
taking
their
their
spots
on
the
city
council
across
the
at
large
seats
and
and
district
level.
So
there'll
be
a
little
bit
more
time
for
that
transition
and
I'll
ensure
that
as
we're
getting
up
and
running
for
november
16th
right
up,
there
is
also
working
to
get
to
know
the
various
counselors
returning
counselors
and
incoming
counselors
priorities
and
their
visions
and
what
they
hope
to
get
done.
This
term
as
well.
C
H
B
We
are
still
recovering
from
that
right
now.
The
goal
is
to
ensure
that
we
are
taking
the
opportunities
that
this
also
presents,
as
someone
says,
not
to
go
back,
but
to
go
better
and
to
ensure
that
we
are
rebuilding
this.
The
infrastructure
necessary
to
address
the
issues
that
were
here
long
before
cobit
19..
So
the
mandate
from
yesterday's
results
is
to
take
on
the
big
challenges
facing
our
city
and
to
do
so
in
a
way
that
truly
brings
everyone
into
the
conversation.
B
This
is
something
that
we
share
as
well.
I
did
hopped
on
the
orange
line
to
come
to
city
hall
for
our
council
meeting.
I
got
on
at
green
street
coming
from
our
office
and
out
at
state
street.
It
was
a
lovely
ride,
as
it
always
is,
and
had
the
chance
to
hear
from
constituents
on
the
orange
line
as
well.
Mass
and
cass
came
up
several
times
in
conversations,
housing
prices
and
the
need
to
ensure
that
we
are
moving
quickly
on
these
issues.
