B
A
Everyone
will
hear
very
well
what
we
have
to
say
today.
Thank
you
so
much
and
good
morning
to
everyone.
We
are
so
excited
to
be
here
for
an
official
announcement.
I
want
to
welcome
and
thank
colleagues
in
public
service
who
are
here,
oh
and
please,
our
elected
officials.
Please
come
up
and
join
us,
our
representative
and
counselor,
and
so
we're
here
with
our
chief
of
streets,
Yasha
Franklin
Hodge,
our
chief
of
Economic
Opportunity
and
inclusion,
head
of
school
or
sorry
assistant,
head
of
school
here
at
the
Horace
Mann
Jennifer
Greenfield.
A
We
have
Miss
Rosie
Hanlon
here
from
the
community
center
here
as
well:
Amy
Yandel
and
Michael
bennetti
from
special
events
as
well
as
elected
officials,
as
mentioned
City
councilor,
Liz,
Braden,
state
representative,
Kevin
honen,
as
well
as
members
of
Boston's
business
groups
and
community
centers.
So
thank
you
to
Alex
cornichini
executive
director
from
Alston
Village
main
streets,
Miss
Veronica
Robles,
a
founder
of
the
Veronica
Robles
Cultural
Center
Meg
Mainzer
Cohen
president
and
executive
director
of
The
Back,
Bay,
Association
and
I
know
gray.
A
Here
from
the
Boston
cyclist
Union
an
important
partner
as
well,
and
many
many
others.
You
will
hear
shortly
from
some
of
the
folks
who
have
been
involved
in
this
event.
We
couldn't
make
any
of
it
happen,
though.
Last
year's
successful
events
or
this
year's
without
the
promotional
efforts,
the
community
outreach
the
planning,
the
logistical
support
of
Sean
o'briant
and
her
team
at
Sean,
O'brien
Consulting,
who
have
helped
put
together
this
series
of
events
last
year
and
we're
so
grateful
that
they're
taking
it
on
again.
This
year.
A
But
you
can
expect
to
see
across
the
board
food
trucks,
art
installations,
performances
and
fun
and
games
for
residents
of
all
ages
and
generations.
You
can
find
all
the
details
in
one
place
at
boston.gov,
open,
hyphen
streets,
if
you
Google
Boston,
open
streets,
I'm
also
excited
to
announce
that,
in
addition
to
adding
these
two
new
locations,
Austin
Brighton
and
East
Boston
to
the
neighborhood
lineup
this
year,
open
Newberry
will
be
taking
place
every
Sunday
from
July
2nd
through
October
15th.
A
A
My
boys
always
get
very
excited
because
they
can
finally
be
free
of
me
grasping
very
tightly
onto
their
hands
and
wrists
as
we're
trying
to
cross
the
street
and
and
watch
out
for
the
cars
and
instead
they'll
get
on
their
scooters
or
bikes
and
and
be
far
down
the
road
and
hopefully
come
back
and
and
check
on
me
and
somewhere
in
there
and
so
I'm
excited
to
see
everyone
out
there.
A
This
summer
I'm
gonna
hand
it
over
next
to
Alex
cornichini,
but
before
that
in
espanol,
just
to
make
sure
that
we
are
reaching
all
of
our
residents.
C
C
C
C
A
Okay,
I'm
going
to
introduce
Alex
cornichini
will
be
followed
by
Miss
Veronica
Robles,
chief
of
streets,
Franklin
Hodge
Chief,
Economic
Opportunity,
and
our
city,
councilor
and
state
representative
I'll
keep
the
speaking
order
up
here.
Everyone
can
introduce
the
next
person.
B
Thank
you,
everybody.
Thank
you,
mayor
Wu,
thank
you,
everyone
for
being
here
today.
Thank
you
to
Rosie
Hanlon
and
the
Jackson
Mann
Community
Center
for
hosting
as
well
as
the
mayor
said.
My
name
is
Alex
cornichini
I'm,
the
executive
director
of
Allston
Village
main
streets.
We
are
a
neighborhood
non-profit
that
works
to
promote
beautify
and
economically
develop.
Alston
Village,
Austin,
Village
main
streets
works
on
creating
unique
events
to
draw
people
into
the
neighborhood
and
to
discover
the
Hidden
Treasures
of
our
small
and
local
businesses.
B
I'm
incredibly
excited
to
discover
to
hear
that
the
mayor
has
planning
to
bring
open
streets
into
Alston
this
year,
because
it'll
put
a
spotlight
on
all
of
our
incredible
businesses
from
our
diverse
mix
of
restaurants
and
fitness
Studios
from
our
local
Hangouts
to
our
destination
venues.
This
is
a
wonderful
initiative.
This
is
that
the
city
has
started.
B
As
my
friend
and
Community
leader,
Anthony
desidoro,
says,
Alston
is
a
state
of
mind
and
an
attitude
where
creativity
and
happiness
can
be
pursued,
independent
of
boundaries
or
restrictions,
we're
very
happy
to
share
that
pursuit
of
creativity
with
you
and
all
for
this
year's
open
streets.
Thank
you.
Now,
back
to
Mayor
Wu
foreign.
D
Well,
thank
you,
mayor
Wu,
for
having
me
here
among
this,
my
amazing
human
beings,
making
a
difference
in
their
communities
as
mayor
will
say,
and
everybody
they
host
everybody.
Thank
you
very
much.
D
Veronica
Robles,
Cultural
Center
was
funded
10
years
ago,
as
a
501c3
non-profit
organization
by
I,
I've
been
working
in
this
community
for
24
years,
20
plus
for
24
plus
years,
making
sure
that
the
cultures
of
our
communities
are
represented
and
the
cultural
center
does
that
we
celebrate
these
cultures
in
this
Boston
year
round,
not
only
one
month
or
one
day,
we
are
there
making
sure
that
the
children
learn
the
cultures
of
their
parents,
and
their
parents
are
also
sharing
these
moments
with
us,
with
their
students
from
the
different
schools
and
among
our
neighborhoods.
D
We
also
make
sure
that
they
participate
in
create
eating,
putting
together
all
these
events
for
the
different
cultures
and
this
opportunity.
It's
for
us
another
excuse
to
celebrate
the
rich
cultures
of
East,
Boston
and
again
with
creative
activities
and
closing
the
streets
without
us
to
be
or
to
go
through
all
the
permitted
permitting
process.
It's
something
that
we
really
want
to
take
advantage
of,
and
we
would
like
to
make
sure
that
all
the
communities
in
ours
hours
a
neighborhood,
learn
and
find
out
about
this
opportunity.
D
E
And
everyone,
and
thank
you,
mayor
Wu
and
everyone
for
being
here:
I'm
Yasha,
Franklin,
Hodge
chief
of
streets
for
the
city
of
Boston,
so
this
is
the
mayor
so
wonderfully
described.
You
know
last
year
tens
of
thousands
of
people
experienced
our
streets
as
vibrant
public
spaces
and
we're
incredibly
excited
to
exp
expand
open
streets
again
this
year
into
more
neighborhoods,
so
that
more
people
can
enjoy
these
special
events
with
over
800
miles
of
roadway.
Our
streets
are
more
than
places
to
just
get
from
A
to
B.
E
These
are
our
largest
shared
spaces
and
they
are
where
we
can
come
together
to
spend
time
with
our
family
and
our
friends
to
meet
new
neighbors
to
enjoy
a
safe
fun
environment
for
walking
biking
or
Recreation
and
in
the
streets
cabinet.
You
know
as
we
plan
these
events,
we've
been
working
very
closely
with
many
other
parts
of
the
city
organizations
to
really
make
sure
that
they
are
successful.
We're
working
very
closely
with
the
disabilities
cabinet.
A
disabilities
commission
excuse
me
to
ensure
that
the
open
streets
programs
are
accessible
and
inclusive
for
everyone.
E
This
includes
adding
mid-block
ramps
for
wheelchair
access
to
the
street,
making
sure
sidewalks
maintain
a
clear
path
of
travel
and
ensuring
that
corner,
curb
ramps
and
intersections
remain
clear.
We're
also
working
with
the
programming
staff
to
make
sure
that
activities
have
accessible
tables
and
where
needed,
we
will
relocate
accessible
parking
where
it's
impacted
by
these
events,
as
these
dates
are
come
closer
you'll
be
able
to
find
detailed
information
about
traffic
restrictions,
parking
restrictions,
MBTA
bus
route,
changes
on
boston.gov,
open
streets
and
on
event
day.
E
I
want
to
thank
the
streets,
cabinet
staff,
they're
so
critical
to
making
sure
that
these
events
can
happen
from
our
planners
to
our
sign
shop
to
the
folks
who
do
street
cleaning.
After
these
events,
everyone
on
our
team
contributes
to
the
success
of
these
open
streets.
E
Events
and
I
also
want
to
appreciate
the
Boston
Police
Department
for
their
work,
helping
us
plan,
helping
us
manage
street
closures
and
making
sure
that
everyone
stays
safe
on
these
days
and,
lastly,
I
want
to
acknowledge
the
team
of
the
office
of
Economic,
Opportunity
and
inclusion
for
their
partnership
in
this
work.
These
are
events
that
are,
you
know,
neighborhood
events,
but
they
really
do
serve
the
small
business
Community
as
well,
and
being
able
to
have
such
great
partnership
with
our
main
streets
with
those
businesses
directly
is
essential
to
making
these
events
successful.
E
Most
of
all
the,
although
I,
want
to
thank
the
neighbors
who
helped
make
these
events,
so
special
open
streets
connects
and
reflects
the
communities
where
they
happen.
The
local
non-profits,
the
artists,
the
musicians
and
everyone
who
just
comes
out
to
participate
is
what
gives
these
events
their
energy
and
their
sense
of
Celebration.
You
cannot
help
but
leave
an
open,
Street
event
with
a
smile
on
your
face
and
a
deeper
appreciation
for
the
people
who
make
Boston
neighborhoods
such
a
great
place
to
live
so
I'm
really
excited
for
this
year's
program.
E
Two
more
events
and
five
in
total,
along
with
the
incredible
open
Newbury.
Now
every
Sunday
no
need
to
look
at
a
calendar.
It's
just
going
to
be
there,
for
you
cannot
wait
to
see
all
of
you
out
on
the
street
and
thank
you
for
coming
in
for
participating
in
these
events
in
the
months
ahead.
F
Good
morning,
everyone
good
morning,
everyone,
this
is
the
next
I
know
we're
not
outside,
but
this
is
an
exciting
all
right.
Well,
all
right!
It's
morning,
still
on
my
head,
well,
I'm
sure
I
have
the
privilege
of
serving
as
the
chief
of
Economic
Opportunity
and
inclusion
I'm
very
excited
to
be
here
with
all
of
you
this
afternoon.
To
talk
about
this
really
exciting
and
wonderful
series
of
events.
F
You
know,
as
Joshua
mentioned,
this
is
not
just
living
in
one
cabinet.
The
mayor
is
committed
to
ensuring
that
we
are
breaking
down
silos
in
and
outside
of
City
Hall,
and
so
this
is
really
a
cross
cabinet
collaboration.
F
I
want
to
acknowledging
Sarah
Anders,
the
chief
of
staff
to
Yasha,
who
helped
to
lead
the
contract
process
and
I'm
going
to
get
to
someone
standing
on
the
end
here,
but
also
I
want
to
acknowledge
my
team
who's
here,
I
see
Mike
benetti
and
Amy
Ando
in
the
office
of
Tourism
sports
and
entertainment
led
by
John
borders.
The
mayor
has
been
committed
to
scaling
these
events
gradually.
F
Last
year,
they
were
three
this
year,
we're
announcing
five
and
the
city
has
made
an
investment
in
ensuring
that
we're
supporting
the
building
out
of
these
events,
and
so
there'll
be
a
position
within
the
office
of
Economic,
Opportunity
and
inclusion.
That
will
help
plan
and
work
with
the
folks
that
we
hire
to
plan
these
events
on
a
year-round
basis
so
that
we're
prepared
and
getting
through
the
slog
of
the
permitting
processes
that
were
brought
up
earlier.
F
F
Experience
an
increase
in
sales,
and
it
was
between
10
and
50
percent,
on
average
across
the
three
districts
that
we
held
these
events
and
we're
looking
forward
to
supporting
these
businesses
in
all
these
districts
and
seeing
that
increase
go
up
even
more
but
ensuring
that
everyone
gets
to
participate.
F
Finally,
this
has
also
helped
to
advance
our
efforts
to
increase
our
supply
of
diversity,
and
so
there
was
a
competitive
process
put
out
last
year.
It
was
a
smaller
contract
this
year,
a
much
larger
contract
and
we're
happy
that
the
business
that
was
awarded
this
contract
Sean
O'brien
consultant,
who
is
also
the
vendor
that
helped
make
this
event
a
success.
F
So
the
reason
the
reason
I
point
them
out
and
I
did
this
last
year
when
we
talked
about
this
event,
is
that
the
administration
is
committed
to
ensuring
we're
supporting
all
of
Boston's
small
businesses,
in
particular
our
diverse
businesses,
because
we
know
it's
our
diverse
businesses
that
are
hiring
women
and
people
of
color,
and
you
just
saw
that
here
well.
F
At
least
I
can
see
that
here,
but
that's
one
of
the
reasons
that
we
are
so
proud
of
the
streets
team
and
our
team
that
work
together
to
find
the
best
find
and
select
the
best
vendor
to
execute
these
events
and
we're
looking
forward
to
supporting
many
more
moving
forward.
F
Finally,
I
will
end
with
I,
usually
end
with
the
proverb:
it's
not
a
proverb,
it's
a
saying,
because
I
only
heard
it
three
years
ago
and
you
have
to
be
like
around
for
500
years
to
be
a
proverb,
but
it's
saying
I
actually
heard
it
in
City
Hall
several
years
ago
that
some
people
make
things
happen.
Some
people
watch
what
happens,
and
some
people
ask
what
happened
and
I
just
have
to
say.
Thank
you
to
the
incredible
City
Hall
team.
F
It
was
mentioned
Boston,
Police,
Department,
our
fire
team,
Chief,
hooley
and
EMS,
and
so
many
other
partners
office
of
Neighborhood
Services
I,
can
go
right
on
down
the
the
entire
cabinet,
but
all
of
our
partners
in
the
community,
as
well,
Sean,
O'brien
consultant
and
her
team,
but
also
our
resident
associations.
I,
want
to
acknowledge
Meg
joining
us
from
the
Back
Bay
Association
to
help
make
open
Newberry
a
success.
F
We
know
it's
folks
from
Hyde,
Park
and
Brighton
and
East,
Boston
and
Charlestown,
and
so
what
we're
so
proud
of
is
that
bostonians
are
re-rediscovering
their
own
City
and
ensuring
that
we're
supporting
all
of
our
friends
and
neighbors
across
this
wonderful
place
called
Boston.
So,
thank
you
all
for
being
here.
We'll
look
forward
to
seeing
you
this
summer
and
be
sure
to
wear
comfortable
clothes
like
I
am
today.
A
Emergency
vehicle
access,
the
Staffing
that's
available,
so
BPD
has
been
a
really
critical
partner
planning
and
so
I
wanted
to
just
invite
you
to
represent
the
department.
Thank
you
for
your
leadership.
G
Good
afternoon,
everyone,
my
name,
is
Juanita
cullinane
and
I
am
the
superintendent
that
oversees
the
bureau
field
services
and
it's
been
a
unique
opportunity
for
me,
because
I
attended
many
of
the
open
Street
events
last
year
and
then
working
with
the
team
behind
me
to
make
sure
that
we
moved
forward
in
elevating
the
the
current
open
streets
that
we
have
in
place,
but
also
making
those
additions
to
the
open
streets
events
and
so
from
an
operational
standpoint.
We're
in
a
great
place.
We
started
a
little
earlier
than
we
did.
Last
year.
G
We
have
community
service
officers
that
will
be
working
with
the
community
around
the
safety
aspects,
but
also
to
get
the
word
out
to
get
people
excited
about
these
events
and
to
do
any
type
of
troubleshooting
around
concerns,
and
we
will
work
in
partnership
with
City
Hall
to
make
sure
that
these
events,
the
past
ones,
have
been
successful
and
the
additional
ones
that
we're
going
to
be
including
this
year
will
continue
be
successful.
So
Boston
police
is
excited
and
ready
and
I'll
have.
My
I
won't
have
comfortable
clothes
on
I'll.
G
H
Good
afternoon,
everyone
I'm
so
delighted
that
we're
going
to
have
an
open
streets
Event
in
Austin
Brighton
after
last
year's
series
of
open
streets.
We
had
people
contacting
our
office
and
saying
can
we
do
this
Nelson
Brighton
and
there
was
a
little
bit
of
open
streets
NV
going
on,
so
we're
we're
going
to
knock
it
out
of
the
park
this
year,
Andre
Alex
yeah.
H
H
My
my
creative
ideas
are
running
here,
so
I'm,
looking
forward
to
working
with
Alex
and
his
team
and
all
the
community
groups
in
the
neighborhood
to
show
off
our
neighborhood,
but
also
want
a
big
shout
out
to
all
the
city
departments
that
are
involved.
This
is
a
multi-departmental
cross-departmental
effort
and
thank
you
to
the
Boston
Police
Department
as
well.
There's
a
lot
of
moving
parts
and
I
look
forward
to
working
with
you
all
to
make
this
a
success.
Thank
you.
I
Thank
you.
It's
a
pleasure
for
me
to
be
here:
I'm
Kevin,
honean,
a
State
Rep
from
Austin
Brighton
I,
want
to
thank
the
mayor
for
this
wonderful,
open
streets
program
and
for
announcing
it
here
in
Austin
Brighton.
You
know
we
take
great
pride
in
our
Artist,
as
was
mentioned
with
Alex
cornicheni
and
all
the
fine
work
he
does
at
Austin
Village
main
streets,
but
this
will
be
an
opportunity
to
present
our
artists
to
the
entire
city.
So
we're
very
happy
about
that.
I
Thank
Rosie
for
having
us
here,
Tony
desidoro
over
there,
as
well
as
the
head
of
the
local
Civic
group
and
again
mayor
I,
want
to
thank
you
for
coming
here
to
the
Jackson
Man.
The
program
obviously
is
going
to
bring
people
together
from
youth
to
elderly.
It
empowers
pedestrians
and
bike
riders
by
closing
down
the
streets.
But
for
me
it's
more
about
bringing
people
together.
We
are
in
an
ever-changing
City.
I
A
J
Hello,
so
I'm
Shawna
from
Shawna
Bryant,
Consulting
first
I
just
want
to
acknowledge
my
team,
the
next
six
months.
We
will
be
working
extremely
hard
and
so
just
grateful
that
they
again
came
along
for
the
ride,
thanking
the
mayor
city
of
Boston,
all
of
the
many
departments
that
we're
going
to
be
able
to
work
with,
in
particular,
ons
and
small
business,
to
really
make
this
a
huge
success.
J
I'm
looking
forward
to
helping
continuing
to
build
Partnerships
with
schools,
Community
organizations,
local
businesses,
the
Boston
Public
Libraries,
which
happen
to
be
on
at
least
three
of
the
five
routes.
Activate
green
spaces,
create
Lounge
areas
for
all
ages.
So
from
the
young
kids,
the
six-year-old
like
my
niece,
who
her
vague
memory
now
is
riding
down
Center
Street.
Every
time
she
rides
down,
Center
Street
she
mentions
open
streets
in
the
big
green
I
mean
the
big
orange
signs.
We
did
some
research
again.
J
My
six-year-old
niece
reminded
me
that
she
wants
more
more
of
everything,
so
more
bubbles,
more
hula,
hoops,
more
music,
more
dancing,
more
food
and
then
the
adults.
My
60
year
old
plus
parents,
have
requested
more
pedicabs
and
so
really
excited
to
take
all
of
what
we've
done
last
year
and
create
an
opportunity
for
the
small
business
for
the
vendors
for
the
food
trucks
for
the
resource
tables
everyone
to
really
just
come
out
in
and
of
community
and
have
a
really
big
party
47
blocks
of
a
really
big
party.
