From YouTube: BPL Announcement - 5/2/22
Description
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu will make an announcement at the Boston Public Library.
A
Good
morning,
everybody
welcome
to
your
library,
I'm
david
leonard
president
of
the
bpl,
and
it
gives
me
great
pleasure
to
be
able
to
host
this
event
this
morning.
I
want
to
recognize
we
are
joined
here
by
our
chair
of
the
board
of
trustees,
priscilla
douglas
as
well
as
well
as
our
in
the
city
of
boston,
our
new
chief
of
human
services,
jose
masso
on
day
one
and
now
without
further
ado.
I
we're
really
happy
to
have
a
very
special
guest
to
help
make
today's
announcement
mayor
michelle
wu.
B
Thank
you,
president,
leonard
and
good
morning,
everyone
I
recently
officiated
my
first
wedding
a
few
months
ago,
and
so
this
is,
I
was
so
nervous
during
that.
So
this
is
bringing
back
some
memories
standing
up
here
in
this
space,
I'm
so
excited.
I
want
to
thank
our
incredible
boston,
public
library,
teams
and
staff
for
all
the
work
that
you
do
every
day.
You
are
truly
the
face
and
connection
for
our
city
government
into
each
and
every
one
of
our
neighborhoods.
B
In
his
dedication
of
the
boston
public
library,
then
supreme
court,
justice,
oliver
wendell
holmes,
said
this
palace
is
the
people's
own.
It
is
all
of
ours,
it
is
every
single
bostonian's
space
and
it
is
a
vision
and
charge
that
the
boston
public
library
has
risen
to
ever
since
to
make
sure
that
this
space
and
all
the
treasures
and
resources
and
history
here
is
free
to
all.
B
These
weddings
will
start
on
monday
june.
6Th
registration
is
open
at
bpl.org,
and
this
is
a
space
for
a
smaller,
more
intimate,
more
accessible
ceremony.
We
have
madame
chair
and
our
chief
sitting
and
modeling
what
the
perhaps
the
mother
and
father
of
the
the
brighter
groom
would
would
be
where
they'd
be
sitting
or
the
our
best
man
here
maze
of
honor,
and
so
you
know
I
remember
when
I
first
took
one
of
those
duck
boat
tours
of
boston
they
pass
by,
and
it's
well
known
everywhere.
B
I
think,
even
on
that
specific
tour,
as
we
came
by
copley
square,
the
tour
guide
said
this
is
the
boston
public
library,
first
and
oldest
in
the
country,
and
the
space
where,
if
you
ever
want
to
get
married,
get
your
name
on
the
list
right
now,
because
the
waiting
list
is
so
long
to
have
this
incredibly
beautiful
part
of
boston's
history.
As
part
of
that
special
moment
in
your
life-
and
I
have
been,
I've-
had
the
chance
to
attend
wedding,
a
wedding
here
that
was
absolutely
spectacular.
B
And
so
this
helps
both
make
sure
that
everyone
can
be
part
of
this
experience
celebrate
your
special
day
here
in
the
city
of
boston
in
the
boston
public
library,
and
also
help
make
sure
that,
if
you're
looking
for
that,
more
intimate
experience,
here's
one
more
incredible
option
to
make
available.
So
my
job
now
is
to
pass
it
on
to
minister
carla
firestone,
who
has
officiated
the
bpl
wedding
giveaway
in
the
past,
and
we're
very
honored
to
hear
from
her.
C
Thank
you
thank
you,
mayor
wu
and
for
your
leadership
and
thank
you
for
your
kind
words.
I
was
thrilled
to
be
asked
to
be
asked
to
speak
today.
It
was
my
pleasure
and
actually
an
honor
to
officiate
when
the
boston,
public
library
offered
the
giveaways,
and
it
gave
many
many
people
the
opportunity
to
get
married
here.
