From YouTube: Mayor Michelle Wu's Address to City Workers - 4/26/22
Description
At 9:30AM on April 26, 2022, Mayor Michelle Wu will address all City of Boston workers to touch base, give an update from her administration, and share her plans for the coming weeks.
We invite you to join us!
A
Good
morning,
everyone
welcome
to
april
and
or
the
end
of
april,
and
thanks
for
joining
to
get
a
little
bit
of
our
updates
from
within
city
hall
and
and
city
government
and
beyond.
I
am
so
so
excited
to
be
with
a
couple
amazing
leaders
from
our
city
within
city
government
and
within
our
community
to
share
some
thoughts
as
we
head
into
spring
here.
First
of
all,
it
has
been
just
an
incredible
moment
for
the
city
as
the
boston
marathon
returned.
A
Of
course,
I,
like
so
many
of
you-
have
watched
it
year
after
year,
cheered
on
the
runners,
it's
always
so
powerful,
to
see
people
really
embodying
the
strength
of
our
city,
the
strength
of
pushing
yourself
to
the
limit
and
fighting
through
and
all
that,
hard
work
that
goes
into
it.
As
the
as
the
runners
cross.
A
The
finish
line
this
year,
though,
in
my
new
role,
I
got
to
look
a
little
bit
behind
the
curtain
of
how
much
work
goes
into,
creating
that
finish
line
and
preparing
for
every
bit
of
the
public
safety
and
medical
and
volunteer
and
event
planning
that
goes
into
this
world
class
event.
We
had
30
000
runners,
of
course,
participating,
and
it
was
bigger
than
ever.
A
We
also
had
10
000
volunteers
involved,
coordinated
by
all
of
you,
the
incredible
emergency
ems
tent
right
near
the
finish
line,
bpd
and
and
bfd
working
on
every
single
zone
to
make
sure
that
our
spectators
and
visitors
from
around
the
world
and
across
our
neighborhoods
we're
safe.
So
thank
you.
Thank
you.
A
Everyone
for
making
this
really
a
memorable
year,
a
welcoming
back
of
spring
of
our
city-
and
this
was
also
my
first
one
boston
day
as
mayor,
and
it
was
so
meaningful
to
celebrate
that
cleaning
up
at
the
carter
school
with
the
pfd
team
watching
our
community
engagement
cabinet
go
and
help
in
the
community,
and
so
many
other
acts
of
kindness
on
that
day.
That
also
reflect
what
we
do
each
and
every
day
of
the
year.
A
A
I
know
it's
still
quite
a
lot
on
our
plates,
but
we're
working
to
make
sure
that
this
city
is
not
just
a
healthy
and
active
and
welcoming
home
for
everyone
who
lives
here,
but
that
city
government
is
the
best
possible
place
to
work,
so
I'm
always
taking
ideas
on
how
we
can
better
support
our
workforce
and
how
we
can
deliver
the
services
by
taking
care
of
our
people
and
our
departments
and
agencies
as
well.
So
an
important
piece
of
that
is
how
we
fund
all
of
the
programs
and
services.
A
We
just
recently
introduced
a
3.99
billion
dollar
budget
that
again
came
after
months
of
work
on
every
little
line
item
every
penny
from
our
a
f
team
and
the
budget
office.
So
I'm
really
excited
to
pass
this
over
to
jim
williamson,
who
runs
the
budget
office
to
share
a
little
bit
about
how
that's
been
going,
and
what
comes
next
for
the
city
budget.
B
Thank
you
mayor
wu,
so
good
morning
my
name
is
jim
williamson,
I'm
the
director
of
the
office
of
budget
management
and,
first
and
foremost,
we
want
to
express
our
gratitude,
the
entire
team
that
helps
create
the
budget.
So,
in
addition
to
obm
it's
a
team
from
the
mayor's
office
cabinet
officials,
department,
heads
department,
a
f
contacts
program
managers,
all
city
staff
involved
in
the
budget.
B
It's
it's
all
of
your
efforts
in
support
that
we're
able
to
submit
the
fy
23
operating
budget
in
the
capital
plan
and
the
american
rescue
plan
appropriations
successfully.
As
we
continue
to
share
that
message.
This
budget
sets
a
foundation
for
the
future,
connects
our
communities
and
delivers
the
details
of
city
services
across
our
neighborhoods.
We
have
now
entered
the
city
council
phase
of
the
fy
23
budget
process.
Over
30
city
council
hearings
have
been
scheduled
by
the
ways
and
means
committee.
B
The
city
council
hearings
will
occur
between
april
25th
and
may
31st
30
city,
separate
city
departments,
have
been
invited
down
to
testify
in
person
at
budget
hearings
in
the
inl
chamber
at
city
hall.
Our
departments
without
formal
budget
hearings,
will
need
to
provide
a
response
to
a
request,
for
information
are
rfi
by
may
20th.
B
On
a
related
note,
the
american
rescue
plan
appropriation
orders
were
assigned
to
a
separate
city
council
committee,
the
committee
on
boston's
covert
19
recovery,
shared
by
a
separate
city
councilor,
with
a
parallel
set
of
hearings
by
getting
back
to
the
operating
budget
and
hearings.
Just
yesterday,
the
office
of
budget
management
testified
at
the
operating
budget
overview
hearing
and
then
obm
with
the
public
facilities
departments
testified
that
the
capital
plan
overview
hearing
now
the
boston
public
schools
will
testify
at
an
overview
hearing
starting
at
10
10
a.m.
B
This
morning,
and
then
bps
will
be
at
a
series
of
five
additional
hearings
this
week
and
next,
as
mentioned
earlier,
the
the
city
council
chair
of
ways
and
means
counselor
fernandez
anderson
has
requested
that
each
department
respond
to
a
series
of
questions
and
data
requests.
One
week
in
advance
of
each
hearing.
This
information
is
requested
called
a
request
for
information
or
rfi
obm
will
support
departments
with
assembling
and
responding
to
the
rfi
by
the
pre-hearing
deadline.
B
One
week
in
advance
of
your
hearing,
obm
jointly
with
the
office
of
intergovernmental
relations,
igr,
will
host
a
series
of
briefing
meetings
to
prepare
each
department
for
their
hearing.
We
will
refute
review
the
rfi
hearing.
Logistics
in
emerging
themes,
surfacing
at
ongoing
hearings,
obm
and
igr
will
help
coordinate
any
follow-up
that
may
come
from
the
hearings.
We
will
be
working
with
you
and
your
staff
to
get
the
information
to
respond
to
requests.
B
Please
note
that
these
responses
need
to
come
back
through
obm
and
igr
to
get
to
the
city
council
and
finally,
new
this
year.
This
will
be
the
first
budget
that
the
city
council
will
have
using
their
new
expanded
budget
approval
powers
ratified
by
voters
last
fall
via
ballot
question
1..
To
that
end,
the
city
council
has
scheduled
five
internal
working
sessions
between
may
11
and
june
6,
and
the
administration
will
collaborate
with
the
city
council
on
exercising
their
new
amen.
B
Amendment
authority
amendments
can
reduce
or
increase
departmental
budget
line
items,
with
a
limitation
that
the
city
council,
amended
version
shall
not
be
for
a
higher
total
budget
than
was
originally
proposed
by
the
mayor.
So
we're
looking
forward
to
an
exciting,
robust,
very
participatory,
very
collaborative
budget
process
with
city
council,
and
I
think,
with
your
help
we
can,
we
can
get
a
successful
budget
passed.
Thank
you.
A
A
Of
going
through
every
single
line
and
now
we're
moving
on
to
this
very
exciting
phase,
to
showcase
the
work
that
all
of
our
departments
have
been
doing
and
have
planned
for
the
the
fiscal
year
ahead.
So
now
very
very
grateful
to
turn
it
over
to
our
incredible
chief
of
staff.
Tiffany
chu
who's
going
to
give
an
update
on
hybrid
work.
C
Hi
everyone
good
morning,
it's
great
to
be
here
great,
to
see
y'all.
So,
as
many
of
you
know,
the
first
project
that
landed
on
my
desk,
when
I
got
to
city
hall,
was
to
figure
out
what
is
the
future
of
work
here
at
the
city?
Very
simple,
obviously,
so
just
wanted
to
remind
everyone.
What
are
the
three
things
that
we're
trying
to
achieve
with
a
new
future
of
work?
Slash
hybrid
work
approach,
so
the
first
one
is.
We
want
to
encourage
flexibility
now
that
the
world
has
changed
and
will
continue
evolving.
C
We
want
to
be
able
to
adapt
to
how
individuals
and
teams
work
best
number
two
morale.
We
know
that
kovid
was
a
huge
train
on
everyone's
morale.
People's
home
lives,
people's
work
lives,
so
we
want
to
modernize
and
keep
up
with
how
workforce
and
other
industries
is
adapting
as
well
and
then.
Lastly,
we
want
to
position
our
city
workforce
to
be
future
future
looking,
so
we
want
to
enhance
our
ability
to
serve
the
public
efficiently
and
effectively
in
a
change
world
now
and
into
the
future.
C
C
I
did
want
to
also
mention
that
marty
angeli,
our
chief
of
equity
and
inclusion,
has
been
hosting
office
hours
specifically
about
this
topic,
and
we've
gotten
a
lot
of
really
good
direct
input
from
unions
to
lay
the
groundwork
for
subsequent
phases
of
future
of
work.
So
I'll
just
share
personally,
I'm
very
committed
to
the
city
to
reach
to
reach
its
full
potential
on
how
we
figure
out
what
is
the
future
of
work
for
both
desk
workers
and
also
frontline
and
on-site
workers,
and
we
want
to
be
as
responsive
and
supportive
as
possible.
C
Another
exciting
piece
I
wanted
to
share
as
a
part
of
our
overall
thinking
about
the
future
of
work
is
that
there
are
many
ways
that
we
believe
the
city
can
create:
workplace
policies
and
programs
that
support
employees,
both
in
and
out
of
work
and
how
they
get
to
and
from
work.
So
we
really
want
to
practice
what
we
preach
here
about
how
we
want
to
get
around
a
lot
aligned
with
the
mayor's
commitments
to
equity
and
a
green
new
deal
for
boston.
C
So
in
the
coming
fiscal
year,
the
city
is
working
towards
implementing
a
set
of
employee
transit
benefits
for
full-time
folks,
who
they'll
make
public
transit,
more
affordable
and
accessible
to
all
and
encourage
more
sustainable
modes
of
transportation,
and
so,
as
a
part
of
that,
I've
been
working
closely
with
the
bicycle
and
active
transportation.
Employee
resource
group,
also
known
as
the
bat
erg
and
they've,
created
an
employee
journey
to
work
survey.
C
A
Thank
you,
tiffany
for
all
your
work.
These
are
such
important
pieces
and
I
look
forward
to
making
sure
that
these
roll
out
quickly
so
that
we
can
all
come
to
to
work,
happy
and
healthy
and
ready
to
close
us
out.
We
have
a
really
special
treat.
I
am
very
pleased
to
invite
fernando
medina,
who
is
from
the
class
of
2023
at
fenway
high
school,
one
of
our
bright
and
shining
stars
at
bps
and
a
finalist
for
youth
poet,
laureate
who's
going
to
share
a
work
called
old
blue
car.
A
D
Well,
thank
you
first
off
for
saying
that
about
me
and
a
big
thank
you
to
my
middle
school
teacher,
mrs
namu.
Who
was
the
reason
I
actually
got
more
into
writing
and
the
reason
I'm
here
today.
To
be
honest,
so
the
name
of
this
poem
is
called
old,
blue
car.
So
here
it
is
you're
from
boston.
You
love
the
patriots.
D
D
D
I
am
boston,
I'm
boston
from
gem,
94.5
dometic
rhythms
to
the
base
of
my
aunt's
old,
blue
car,
I'm
boston
from
the
many
journeys
we
rode
in
our
open
car
stop
and
shop.
Walgreens
dollar
tree
bodegas.
The
list
repeats
itself.
Yet
the
flow
of
laughter
and
love
pours
through
us
as
an
ending
cascade,
I'm
boston
for
one
of
many
naps
in
the
backseat,
an
attempt
to
assert
in
spanish
dialogue
between
my
mom
and
my
aunts.
