Incredibly,
scary,
all
eyes
were
on
us.
You
could
not
escape
the
stairs
the
boys
whispered,
they
point
it
is
as
if
they
never
saw
a
girl
before
I.
Remember
the
stairs.
All
I
remember
is
the
stairs
at
first
we
were
treated
like
Queens.
We
got
away
with
a
lot,
but
later
not
so
much.
There
was
no
gym
for
us.
The
first
year,
one
bathroom,
the
lab.
No
clubs
wanted
us.

Together
they
leave
a

Our
community
is
dynamic,
so
much
happens
every
day
on
our
bustling
campus
and
throughout
the
city.
It
is
truly
a
privilege
to
behold
clash
in
an

the

on
and
is

And
a
very
good
question
comes
up
when
people
ask
me
about
these
sampling
policies
as
well.
The
next
one
we'll
have
to
do
is
because
the
school
admitted
on
the
forward
to
different
policy
in
four
years,
and
sometimes
the
next

next
fall.
There
is
an

that
is
required,
but
don't
have
any

K
At
the
end,
at
the
end
of
the
day,
our
students,
he
told
me
on
one
last
week
we
have
more
than
150
faculty.
You
know,
2400
students
tell
us
and
intelligence
extracted
in
different
measures
would
have
come
together
and
being
defined
in
grade
school
and
I.
Know
it's
not
just
about
educator,
but
I'm.
Also
a
realized
task.
You
know,
I
mean
I've
been
getting
serious
trouble
starting
from
last
year,
if
I
didn't
get
kudos
to
my
wife
shows
here
tonight.

instead
of

make
sure
you
were
exceptional
as
a

you
successfully
navigated
Latin

through
some
of
the
most
turbulent
Waters
in
the
school's
recent
history.

fact
that

Q
Q
As
I
stand
before,
I'm
just
overwhelmed
and
I'm
trying
to
reflect
and
communicate
to
the
the
sense
of
Pride
that
I
have
in
this
honor
when
Peter
first
informed
me
that
I
was
chosen
to
be
the
distinguished
graduate.
I
was
surprised
and
I
was
humbled
to
say
the
least.
To
consider
this
an
honor
is
is
an
understatement.
It
is
in
honor
of
the
highest
record
and
one
which
I
wrote
Treasure
and
be
forever
proud.
Q
I
grew
up
in
Hyde,
Park
and
I
entered
land
School
in
1959.
It
was
the
beginning
of
a
new
chapter
in
my
life
and
one
which
would
indelibly
mold
me
as
a
student
and
teach
me
how
to
work.
For
my
first
day
as
a
12
year
old
60,
when
colon
Kelly
marched
on
stage
in
the
auditorium
in
this
crisp
military
uniform
now
those
of
us
of
a
certain
age
knew
that
in
those
days,
Latin
School
taught
military
science.
Q
We
were
only
12
years
after
the
end
of
World
War,
II
and
Colonel
Kelly
was
the
head
of
the
military
science
program.
It
was
a
required
course
and
Colonel
Kelly
said
attention
and
everybody
Shook
and
stood
up
at
attention.
I
was
a
60
and
I
stood
there.
I'd
never
heard
such
a
loud
voice
and
looked,
and
he
said,
gentlemen,
welcome
to
Boston
Land
school.
Look
to
your
left
now.
Look
to
your
right.
Those
two
gentlemen
will
not
be
here
when
you
graduate
and
at
the
time
I
thought.
Oh
well
too
bad
for
those
guys.
Q
My
daily
commute
for
the
MBTA
from
Hyde
Park
was
long
and
two
or
three
hours
of
homework
at
night
added
a
huge
burden.
I
remember
one
time
that
first
year
running
to
catch
the
trolley
on
Huntington
Ave
and
it
was
raining.
I
was
way
down
about
heavy
book
bag
and
I
missed
the
trolley
and
as
I
waited
shivering
in
the
rain.
I
began
thinking
that
I
wasn't
cut
out
for
that
in
school.
It
just
seemed
too
hard.
I
felt
overwhelmed
in
homicide.
Q
It
was
hard
and
I
struggled
to
manage
all
of
the
work
that
was
assigned,
but
this
is
what
Latin
School.
Did
it
molded
your
character?
It
challenged
you.
It
taught
you
to
reach
within
yourself
to
find
strength
that
you
didn't
know
that
you
had,
and
it
taught
me
Latin
a
common
denominator
of
all
of
us
here.
Q
The
mere
mention
of
Latter
and
conjuries
up
30
lines
a
night.
The
fabulary
focalase
Caesar's,
gallic
wolves,
Cicero
Virgil
Avid
living
I,
can
still
recite
in
the
activity
which.
M
Q
Q
Q
C
Q
Essay
and
my
essay
was
I
described
him
a
bullet.
It
has
spokes
that
you
allow,
you
know,
could
open
up
and
Etc
and
he
said:
do
you
want
to
read
this
essay
more?
Does
this
speak
to
you
and
I
sat
a
little
bit
down
low
in
my
chair
and
he
said:
does
this
have
Style
and
I
thought?
Oh,
it
really
projected
another
essay
up
in
this
essay.
Q
Q
You
get
the
picture.
This
was
the
Latin
School
Socratic
education
I,
never
forgot
that
lesson.
Anytime,
I
have
to
write
and
I.
Do
a
lot
of
writing.
I
I
try
to
remember
this
lesson
style.
If
you're
going
to
say
it
say
it's
Style
say
it.
So
it
convinces
somebody
to
want
to
read
more
that
was
Latin
School
and
from
one
school
I
was
fortunate
to
be
awarded
a
scholarship
to
Ohio,
University
and
eager
to
leave
Massachusetts
for
the
rest,
of
course,
when.
R
Q
Where's
the
rest,
he
says
it
starts
at
the
Mississippi,
so
much
for
my
provincial
Boston
upbringing.
Well,
I
greatly
enjoyed
my
University
experience.
I
was
encouraged
to
apply
to
Harvard
Business
School
I
did
and
I
was
accepted,
but
of
course
they
put
the
picture
up
there
in
front
of
it
was
the
president
and
that
certainly
had
something
to
do
with
it.
After
graduating,
I
transitioned
to
Harvard,
Business
School
and
the
first
day,
I
went
and
picked
up
a
massive
number
of
case
studies.
That
I
would
need
to
read
that
semester.
Q
Q
Welcome
to
Samoa
I
was
assigned
as
a
Peace
Corps
volunteer
to
teach
math
and
science
at
Chanel
college
at
Secondary,
School
run
by
missionary
priest,
I
had
trained
for
three
months
on
the
island
of
Malachi
in
Hawaii.
Studying
someone
under
a
high
intensity
language
training
program.
Fortunately,
I
managed
to
pass
my
Samoan
language
phone
service
exam.
Well,
several
of
my
initial
Peace
Corps
colleagues
failed
and
were
deselected.
Q
Lab
school
had
prepared
me
to
learn
a
foreign
language,
independent
country
in
the
South
Pacific
13
degrees,
south
of
the
Equator,
on
a
line
halfway
between
Honolulu
and
Sydney.
But
I
was
in
my
element
that
actually
falles
picturesque,
Villages,
wonderful
people,
I
taught
math
and
science
I
coached
rugby
and
I
worked
in
the
schools.
Q
Q
Which
was
the
leading
international
bank
at
that
time?
I
was
anxious
to
get
back
overseas.
My
interviewer
played
in
a
very
competitive
process
had
been
the
Peace
Corps
as
well,
so
I'm
sure
that
cross-cultural
experience
that
we
shared
got
me
in
the
door
after
six
months,
training
in
New
York.
They
sent
me
to
Hong
Kong.
It
was
such
a
rich
tapestry
of
experience.
Q
If
you're
permit
me
I'll
just
give
you
one
anecdote.
I
started
learning,
Cantonese,
the
labor
Franco
of
Guangdong,
Province
and,
of
course,
Hong
Kong,
it's
a
more
difficult
Dynamic
than
Mandarin
because
it
has
nine
tones.
But
of
course
armed
with
my
Latin
School
of
no
intuition
I
was
going
to
master
this
language,
and
so
we
were
invited
to
this
very
wealthy
businessman's
annual
Shanghai
crab
did
took
place
in
November
and
I
walked
in
and
I
wanted
to
say
in
Cantonese.
You
know
and
give
them
an
expression.
Q
I
said
right,
which
was
basically
saying
my
stomach
was
empty,
I'm,
I'm
hungry.
This
is
this
I'm,
so
so
excited
and
everybody
went
and
started
to
laugh
and
I
said.
Oh
I
must
have
said
something
wrong
so
later
on.
My
buttonholed
one
of
the
sons
and
I
said
what
did
I
say.
He
said:
I,
don't
know
what
you
were
trying
to
say,
but
he
didn't
say
that
and
I.
J
Q
Q
Q
Eventually
became
the
head
of
all
the
bank's
business
of
Asia,
Pacific
13
different
countries
and
the
real
melange
of
cultures
and
languages.
Aside
from
the
burdens
of
business
travel
over
such
a
huge
geography,
it
was
a
wonderful
job,
I
relished,
it
I
loved
the
many
cultures
and
peoples
I
work
with
including
the
difficult
ones,
I
retired,
from
JP
Morgan
in
2002
to
teach
at
Columbia
business
school,
but
that
lasted
only
a
year,
because
I
was
so
offering
the
opportunity
to
become
the
chairman
and
CEO
of
career.
Q
Exchange
Bank,
with
hornet
Korea's
largest
International
Bank,
was
struggling
in
the
career.
Ministry
of
Finance
was
insisting
when
the
new
CEO
be
recruited
with
proven
International
prudentials
and
previous
experience
in
Korea
I
fit
the
bill.
How
can
I
resist
we
moved
to
Seoul
in
2003
and
it
was
the
Capstone
of
a
career
in
Asia,
China
Japan,
but
Korea
was
the
third
leg
of
the
East
Asian
stool
and
perhaps
in
many
ways
the
most
interesting,
because
it
was
certainly
the
most
confusion
of
all
in
Japan.
Cultivating
friendships
takes
years
in
Korea.
Q
If
you
respect
Korean
culture
will
be
welcomed
and
if
they
really
like
you,
you'll,
be
embraced
to
be
your
friends
for
life.
I
returned
to
Colombia
in
2008,
but
after
four
years
as
a
professor
teaching,
International
banking
I
had
to
step
down
because
the
little
biotech
company
that
I
had
founded
Promontory
Therapeutics
started
to
demand
much
longer
my
time,
and
that
continues
to
be
the
case
today.
As
Promontory
small
molecule
immunotherapy
is
currently
engaged
in
three
phase:
two
clinical
trials.
Q
This
impression
was
reinforced
when
I
was
invited
to
join
the
board
of
cieu.
The
Council
on
International
educational
exchange
I
soon
realize
what
an
extraordinary
organization
this
was
a
mission
to
promote
global
citizenship
and
humanize
international
relations
through
exchanges,
study
abroad,
Service,
Learning,
internships
and
more
spoke
to
my
life.
Experience.
Q
Q
Indeed,
I
did
Boston
Latin
School
became
one
of
the
first

to
participate
that
first
year,
15

to

overseas
to
participate
in
a
four-week
study
abroad
and
Homestay
program
at
a
number
of
cie
overseas
locations.
Their
experiences
were
transformative
today,
I
think
116
American
school
students
have
participated
in
the
global

35
this
past
summer
alone,
two
of
the

us
as

here
I
must
again
thank

and
the

director
Tom

who
have
been

Foreign
that
