From YouTube: 10th Annual City of Boston Scholar Recognition
Description
Education is not only important to the residents of Boston, but also to those who serve them. Dean of the Boston University Metropolitan College Tanya Zlateva and City of Boston Director of Human Resources Vivian Leonard, join over 30 City of Boston employees on scholarship at BU and their department heads, to celebrate their educational accomplishments. This event was held at the Questrom School of Management at Boston University.
A
Welcome
it
is
a
great
pleasure,
seeing
everybody
here
today
on
a
cold
day
in
a
warm
place,
to
have
a
really
wonderful,
warm
event,
kicking
off
the
holiday
season.
First
well,
unfortunately,
mayor
Walsh
at
the
last
minute
was
detained,
but
I
gathered
the
messages
to
make
for
us
to
make
the
best
of
it
and
have
a
wonderful
time
and
to
enjoy
our
successes.
A
The
family
that
supports
the
city
of
Boston
scholars
and
yeah
and
to
hope
to
continue
condit
on
the
same.
In
the
same
vein,
and
even
with
more
more
joy
and
more,
both
success
and
lightheartedness
I
would
want
to
say
a
special
thanks
to
the
people
who,
from
the
city
who
make
that
work,
and
it
is
the
scholarship
committee
that
is
chaired
by
Vivian
Leona
and
Dana
Weber,
who
is
Dana
and
all
the
managers
who
make
that
really
possible
and
support
their
employees
and
empower
them
really
to
complete
the
programs
that
are
no
joke.
A
A
From
the
city
of
Boston,
everybody
welcome
and
now
from
the
University
of
Boston,
which
is
of
course
Boston
University
and
nothing
not
know.
No
one
else
did
the
others
well
they're
good
too,
from
Metropolitan
College
I
would
like
to
welcome
Dean
Caruso,
who
is
associate
dean
of
enrollment
student
affairs
and
admissions
at
Metropolitan
College,
professor
Mary
Ellen
Master
Lilly,
who
is
chairing
the
department
of
applied
social
sciences
and
many
I
think
there
are
students
of
of
Mary
Ellen
here
in
the
room,
professor
mud,
you
get
to
talk
earlier,
who
is
the
chair?
A
Have
I
missed
an
O,
and
professor
blood
is
lot
of
who
is
associate
professor
in
administrative
sciences
and
teaches
analytics
I.
Don't
know
that
there
is
anybody
that
is
in
his
classes,
but
you
know:
I
highly
recommend
him
analytics
personally
and
for
the
field
analytics
is
a
really
upcoming
and
very
important
field.
I
would
like
to
highlight.
A
They
truly
exemplary
dedication
of
the
city
of
Boston
to
education.
It
there
are
not
that
many
city
in
either
in
the
United,
it's
all
in
the
world
that
will
focus
on
bettering
the
education
and
knowledge
and
skills
of
their
employees
and
not
just
the
employees,
but
the
city
in
which
we
live
and
making
it
more
livable
and
enjoyable
for
everybody.
So
it
is
I
want
to
mention
some
of
the
education
initiatives
that
have
recently
been
undertaken.
A
A
A
A
Vivian
has
earned
a
Bachelor
of
Science
from
Northeastern
a
Juris
Doctor
from
Suffolk.
She
is
a
chair
of
the
YMCA
training
and
partner's
Advisory
Council.
Most
importantly,
maybe
she
is
a
member
of
our
Boston
University
problem.
Affairs
advisory
board
and
Viviane
runs
this
program
along
with
Dana
who
she
will
introduce
later
in
such
a
wonderful,
smooth
way
that
I
think
it
will
prosper
and
for
many
many
years
to
come,
and
even
if
somebody
tried
to
mess
it
up
that
first,
that
person
is
going
to
be
unsuccessful.
B
B
We
know
that
you
no
attending
bu
and
getting
an
advanced
degree
carves
out
a
big
portion
of
your
life,
but
I
think
it
shows
that
you
are
committed
to
moving
the
city
forward
to
elevating
the
city
and
I.
Think
many
of
us
who
are
in
this
business
of
the
public
sector.
We
do
this
because
this
is
who
we
are.
Okay,
so
I
really
want
to.
Thank
you
for
that
and
by
demonstrating
that
you're
committed
to
taking
the
city
to
the
next
level.
B
Winston
is
passionate
about
social,
economic
development
and
community
empowerment.
He
is
current,
leading
a
strategic
outreach
effort
that
looks
at
the
first-ever
accessibility
priority
survey,
which
is
a
commitment
by
the
mayor
to
determine
what
are
the
accessibility
related
needs
of
the
constituents
of
Boston.
B
The
survey
aims
to
complement
the
imagine,
Boston
2030
plan
and
the
data
collection
that
will
be
used
to
help
shape
the
city
with
respect
to
the
strategic
priorities.
Winston
has
a
story
to
tell
Winston
is
an
immigrant
of
Haiti
after
the
devastating
earthquake
of
2010
Winston
emigrated
here,
and
he
believes
that
his
story
epitomizes
the
American
dream.
He
is
known
for
his
charisma,
his
passion
and
for
serving
others
and
giving
back
to
the
community,
and
so
that's
a
story
that
I
want
to
hear.
You
tell
Winston
join
me
in
welcoming
Winston.
C
Have
the
privilege
of
sharing
my
story?
I
am
part
of
the
city
planning
program
and
as
I
stand
here,
I
can
picture
myself
sitting
in
my
class
when
my
professors
studied
with
this
world.
If
you
want
to
be
an
effective
planner,
you
have
to
address
the
challenges
of
tomorrow,
as
if
there
were
the
challenges
of
the
day,
don't
plan
for
option
plan
for
people
instead
of
going
around
building
more
bridges,
let
build
community.
C
This
was
quite
a
warm
and
compassionate
welcome
to
Boston
University
I.
Remember
those
what
they
stick
with
me,
because
at
the
core
of
them
this
speak
to
my
passions.
My
story
and
even
my
journey
I,
was
born
as
Nellie
I
immigrated
doesn't
end
after
the
on
earthquake
that
took
the
life
of
more
than
250,000
people
and
left
many
more
homeless.
C
C
This
store
is
top
quality
and
tamanna
and
again
we
have
seen
the
mayor
tick-borne
initiative
to
address
this
challenge
from
implementing
the
inclusionary
development
policy
to
supporting
the
Community
Preservation
Act
to
now
increasing
the
language
field,
so
we
can
create
more
accessible
and
affordable
housing
to
resident
in
the
city
of
Boston.
I
am
proud
to
be
part
of
its
administration,
but
I.
Take
this
type
of
commitment
should
be
our
guiding
principle.
It
should
be
our
moral
imperative.
C
C
B
C
My
hope
and
dream
for
the
next
two
years
is
to
acquire
knowledge,
expertise
that
will
empower
me
to
plan,
for
people
continue
to
pull
with
equal
access
and
opportunity,
not
building
bridges
but
build
community
and,
more
importantly,
to
start
addressing
the
challenges
of
tomorrow,
as
if
the
world
the
challenges
of
today.
Thank
you.
D
We
feel
very
grateful
that
I've
come
to
campus
today
and
taking
a
moment
out
of
the
holiday
season,
to
celebrate
your
accomplishments
and
to
maybe
kick
off
your
holiday
season
if
it
hasn't
started
already
so
we'll
have
the
Dean
and
Vivian
come
up
and
we'll
do
a
photo
opportunity
here
and
because
it's
25
degrees
outside
these
are
for
you
for
the
wintertime
and
at
the
end,
and
we
can
apply
to
each
person
as
they
come
up
and
at
the
end,
I'll
make
sure
we
didn't
miss
anyone.
Megan
Aldridge.
B
A
D
D
Now
is
there
anyone
we
missed,
who
might
have
come
in
after
we
took
all
the
names
excellent,
so
that's
wonderful!
What
we'd
love
to
do
now
is
a
group
photo
with
all
of
the
City
of
Boston
scholars
right
here
with
the
teen
and
with
Vivian.
If
you
can
gather
and
we'll
do
here
and
the
managers,
this
will
be
a
big
photo
most.
