Description
This week in Boston Neighborhood Sports, we bring you highlights from the 2017 BPS Middle School Basketball Championships, along with an update on the city's high school basketball Boston Globe All-Scholastic Selections.
A
All
we
said
goodbye
to
the
high
school
basketball
season
back
in
March
on
Thursday,
we
were
able
to
catch
a
glimpse
of
Boston's
basketball
future
at
the
middle
school
basketball
championships.
Last
season,
the
lila
G
Frederick
middle
school
won.
Both
the
girls
and
boys
championship
games
in
both
of
their
programs
were
right
back
in
the
finals.
This
season,
but
standing
in
their
way,
were
too
hungry.
A
Other
middle
school
basketball
teams,
hoping
it
would
be
their
turn
to
capture
the
title
of
Boston's
best,
let's
set
out
to
the
Shelburne
Centre
in
Roxbury
for
the
middle
school
basketball
championships.
First
up,
it's
the
girls
championship
game
with
Lyle
G
Frederick,
taking
on
the
Roosevelt,
we're
gonna
pick
it
up.
In
the
first
quarter,
Panthers
got
to
go
in
early
to
Lina,
Guerrero
banks
home
the
three
right
there
for
the
Frederick.
A
They
go
up,
6
to
4,
2nd
quarter,
Frederick
still
cruising
it's
Dallas
Scott
with
the
steal
she
goes
coast
to
coast
for
the
layup
Frederick
Panthers
go
up
by
7
two
minutes
ago.
In
the
second
quarter,
though,
the
Roosevelt
goes
on
a
run.
Hannah
amber
ster
drives
to
the
bucket,
gets
the
basket
right.
There
cuts
the
lead
down
to
five,
then
off
the
inbounds
pass.
It's
amber
stir
again
scoring
inside
the
game.
We
tied
at
15
a
piece
at
the
half
3rd
quarter.
A
Now
it's
the
Roosevelt
warriors
going
on
a
run
as
amber
Stern
knocks
down
the
basket
in
one.
She
puts
Roosevelt
up
by
5
then
later
on,
the
fourth
quarter,
the
Frederick
down
by
8-inch,
olena,
Guerrero,
getting
the
steal
and
the
basket
she
cuts
the
lead
down
to
6,
but
with
just
a
couple
of
just
under
a
minute
left
to
go.
It's
amber,
sir,
burying
the
corner
three
for
the
Roosevelt
as
they
go
on
to
win
34:26
and
capture
the
girls
middle
school
basketball
championship.
A
Then
next
up
it
was
the
boys
turn
as
there
was
the
Young
Achievers
taking
on
the
Frederick
as
Powell
right
there
for
Young
Achievers
gets
the
basket
in
one
puts
them
up
early
by
three
then
later
on.
It's
the
Frederick
charge
and
right
back
as
one
solace
gets
the
basket
and
the
foul
puts
the
Frederick
up
by
one
in
the
first
quarter,
2nd
quarter.
A
It's
you
know:
Liriano
scored
inside
puts
the
Frederick
Panthers
up
by
8
and
then
it's
Lance
Greene
with
the
putback
just
before
the
half
Frederick
led
by
10
20,
eight
to
18
at
the
break
3rd
quarter,
Young
Achievers
not
given
up
its
Jakaya
Phillips
with
the
floater.
He
cuts
the
Frederick's
lead
down
to
single
digits.
Then
later
on,
it's
a
my
Howell
with
the
pull-up
jumper
for
the
Young
Achievers.
A
He
cuts
the
lead
down
to
7,
and
then
it's
gonna
be
Phillips
again
this
time
with
a
beautiful
move
to
the
bucket
I,
don't
know
how
he
got
that
and
he
cut
the
lead
down
to
4,
but
the
Frederick
were
just
too
tough
down
the
stretch.
One
solace
gonna
pick
up
the
steal
right
here
and
score
in
transition.
As
the
Frederick
Panthers
go
on
to
win
64
to
53,
they
win
the
boys
middle
school
championship,
always
a
lot
of
fun
to
watch
those
games.
A
We're
gonna
see
a
lot
of
those
players
on
the
high
school
hardwood
in
no
time
now,
despite
the
high
school
season
being
over,
postseason
awards
still
need
to
be
dished
out
in
the
Boston
Globe
handed
out.
Their
high
school
scholastic
selections
over
the
weekend.
First
up,
it's
the
girls,
basketball,
all
scholastic,
celestial
selections
and
cathedrals
massa
niqab,
oh,
that
one
of
the
Player
of
the
Year
awards
GABA,
the
six-foot-three
senior
got
sixteen
point.
A
Six
points
per
game
and
twelve
point:
three
rebounds
per
game
helped
the
panthers
repeat:
division
four,
as
back-to-back

BP
of
the
catholic
central
league,
also
getting
all
scholastic
selections
for
teammate
mackenzie
de
liebe,
the
freshman
from
Cathedral
started
the
season
as
a
bench
player,
but
she's
finished
up
as
a
starter.
17.7
points
per
game
led
the
team,
as
they
like,
we
said,
won.
Another
state
title
for
Cathedral
in
Division,
four,
also
for
Cathedral
getting
postseason

was
their

A
Now
a

the
year
led
his
team
to
another
state
championship
back-to-back
seasons.
They
also
won

At
a
new

Of
course,
he
joined

brother

the
backcourt

a
new
mission.
Charles
also
carries
a

the
Titans.
A
He
won
the

in
his
freshman
and
junior
seasons
before
finishing
it
up
this
year.
His
