Description
This week in Boston Neighborhood Sports, we bring you highlights of the 2015 Boston City Baseball Championship, along with some news about a Brighton High School boys basketball player.
A
Monday
was
Memorial
Day,
which
means
baseball
games
all
across
the
country,
including
here
in
the
city
of
Boston,
with
the
Boston
City
baseball
championship,
one
team
chomping
at
the
bit
on
Monday
to
win
a
city
title
was
the
Latin
Academy
Dragons
who've
been
the
runner-up
for
three
straight
seasons.
Standing
in
their
way
was
another
anxious
team,
the
West
Roxbury
Raiders,
who
hadn't
been
to
the
city
championship
since
they
were
runners-up
in
2011.
Something
had
to
give
let's
head
out
to
English
high
school
for
the
city
championship.
That's
Westie.
A
Pitcher
s
drives
Rojas
coming
into
the
game
with
a
two
point:
three
for
er,
a
top
of
the
first
he
was
in
trouble,
though
runners
on
for
Boston
Latin,
Academy
Rojas
gets
that
Latin
Academy
batter
swing
gets
out
of
the
jam
there
in
the
first
second
inning
now
two
outs
Rojas
again
getting
the
Latin
Academy,
batter
swing
and
roll
has
had
ten
K's
on
the
day
bottom
of
the
second.
Now
it's
Rojas
at
third
for
Westie
Robert
Smith
with
the
ground
out
there
Rojas
scores
from
third
and
West.
A
He
goes
up
one
two,
zip
and
head
to
the
top
of
third.
Now
Boston
Latin
Academy
getting
that
run
right
back
John,
T
and
hammers
the
ball
deep
to
Center
TN
legs
out
a
triple
for
the
Latin
Academy
dragons,
and
they
are
in
business
here
in
the
top
of
the
third
couple.
Batters
later
Latin
Academy
forces
a
pickoff
attempt
here
from
West
Roxbury
TN
scores
from
third
everybody
safe
for
the
Dragons,
we're
tied
up
at
one
apiece
bottom
of
third.
A
Now
pop
fly
there
from
West
Roxbury
Latin
Academy's,
first
baseman,
with
a
pretty
over
the
shoulder
grab
with
two
runners
on
Latin
ketamine's
escape
scoreless
there
as
we're
tied
at
one
apiece
bottom
of
the
sixth.
Now
still
one
one
runners
at
second
and
third
for
Westie
Robert
Sarita
lays
down
the
bunt
the
squeeze
there
for
West
Roxbury
Ramirez
scores
from
third
West.
A
He
takes
a
2-1
lead
top
of
the
seventh
runners
on
for
Latin
Academy
Thomas
booth,
with
a
great
throw
to
second
gets
18
Rivera
Castro
on
the
pickoff,
and
then
two
outs
in
the
seventh
last
chance
to
Latin
Academy,
Connor
Walsh
grounds
out
to
Rojas
the
pitcher
and
Westie
goes
on
to
win
two
to
one.
They
are
the
2015
Boston,
City,
League
baseball
champions,
and
we
talked
to
head
coach,
Clifton
Wilson
after
the
game
about
that
squeeze
play
to
go
ahead.
We
also
talked
to
the
game:
winning
pitcher
Ezra
Rojas
after
him.
B
That
was
the
eighth
suicide
that
we
did
this
this
year
and
we
coach
and
I
talked
prior
to
the
inning.
We
said
if
we
get
a
guy
on
third
we're
going
to
squeeze
them
in
we're
gonna
squeeze
them
in,
because
that's
what
we
do
best
and
it
worked
out
perfectly
as
well
like
I,
fixed
from
the
phenomenal.
You
know,
I
did
my
job
I
hit
my
spots
and
I
was
feeling
amazing.
Today,
the
best
game
of
my
life
I've
been
dreaming
of.
A
Congrats
to
the
West
do
raiders.
Also
the
girls
softball
city
championship
was
also
on
Memorial
Day
there
and
Latin
Academy
was
their
8th
straight
city
championship
as
the
Lady
Dragons
win
12
to
zip
over
Brighton
Olivia
McGrath,
pitched
a
perfect
game
through
five
innings
nine
case
for
McGrath
his
Latin
Academy,
your
girls,
2015
City
softball
champion.
That's
not
only
the
eighth
straight
city
title
for
the
Latin
Academy
Lady
Dragons,
softball
team,
but
it's
also
the
88th
straight
win
in
league
play.
That's
just
amazing
stuff.
A
We've
also
got
some
news
from
the
high
school
basketball
hardwood,
Brighton
Bengals
Center
Jason
Jones
will
be
playing
basketball
from
the
division.
Three
Rhode
Island
College
anchorman
next
year
and
his
four
seasons
with
bright
and
Jones,
was
selected
to
to
City
League
all-star
games,
one
two
Boston
City
championships
and
was
a
member
of
the
brightens
2013
boys,
Division
2
state
championship,
basketball,
team,
congratulations
to
Jason,
I'm
sure
he'll
do
very
well
down
at
Rhode
Island
College,
that's
gonna!
