From YouTube: Read to a Child: "The Magician's Hat"
Description
Mayor Walsh joins BPS Superintendent Dr. Tommy Chang and Read to a Child CEO Paul Lamoureux to read "The Magician's Hat" to second and third grade students at the Tobin School in Roxbury. The book, written by Patriots wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell, is one of many books to be chosen for the national Read to a Child program which promotes reading aloud as being integral to a child's early growth.
A
Oh,
my
friends,
I
have
some
friends
here
with
us
today.
You
know
I've
been
doing
great
work
in
the
peace
Academy
this
year.
There
are
some
of
those
here
who
work
on
healing
the
world.
Just
like
we
all
do
your
teachers
do
try
to
make
the
world
a
better
place
like
we've
been
teaching
you
so
I
just
wanted
them
to
have
a
quick
second
to
talk
to
you
about
their
jobs
and
then
mayor,
Walsh
who's.
The
person
who
helps
out
in
our
city
is
gonna.
A
B
I
always
like
to
say,
VPS
students
are
going
to
be
the
leaders,
the
scholars
entrepreneurs
innovators
of
tomorrow.
So
when
you
guys
grow
up
you're
going
to
be
taking
care
of
us
because
we
won't,
we
will
take
care
of
ourselves
and
bps
very
proud
to
be
a
national
leader
on
literacy.
In
our
last
assessment
on
on
animate,
which
is
the
nation's
report
card
Boston,
Public
School,
fourth
graders
were
the
highest
performing
of
all.
B
The
UTSA
has
continued
to
close
a
gap
between
Boston
Public
School
and
the
national
average,
and
that
speaks
a
lot
to
the
young
people
and
organizations
like
read
aloud
that
commits
to
help
and
support
all
of
you
to
be
better
readers
to
be
reading
and
actually
having
conversations
about
what
you're
reading
and
then
just
foster
your
love
for
books
and
posterior
love
to
be
a
learner.
The
rest
of
your
life
I
want
the
mayor,
Walsh
worthy.
A
C
It's
not
the
guy
that
you're
here
to
see
today
right
but
I
want
you
all
to
know
that
you
are
part
of
a
huge
family
of
children
across
the
country
that
are
in
reach
to
a
child's
lunchtime.
Reading
program.
There
are
1328
kids,
just
like
you
in
Los
Angeles
and
Detroit
and
Miami
Hartford
and
all
over
Greater
Boston,
and
they
have
about
1700
volunteers
that
come
and
visit
them,
one
on
one
and
read
to
them.
Each
week
pretty.

Does
it
feel
that's
a
great
question:
did
Mia
it's
like
it
feels
some
day,
just
like
a
lot
of
fun
and
it's
good
some
days
being
mirrors
like
being
a
student
in
school.
Like
you
know
me,
you
come
to
school
some
days
and
I
give
homework,
and
if
you
do
your
homework,
it
feel
really
good
that
day,
because
you
know
the
answers
to
the
questions,
because
you
did
your
homework
and
you
know
the
other
days
when
you
don't
do
your
homework
as
much
and
you
go
to
school
and
you're
not
really
prepared.
H
H
Great,
what
inspired
me
ask
I
think
when
I
was
like
in
fifth
grade,
I
wanted
to
be
in
politics
and
I
kind
of
got
excited
about
it
and
I
liked
helping
people
so
I
think
that
I
started
my
inspiration
side
when
I
was
young
in
grammar
school
and
then,
as
I
got
older,
I
kind
of
I
kind
of
focused
towards
that
area.
I
want
you
want
to
be
man
so
I'm.
H
Looking
at
this,
we
think
I'm
Lea
keeps
the
school
system
city
safe,
gets
a
lot
of
money
in
his
original
is
the
president
United
States,
which
I
was
right
now
cares
about
people?
Yes
helps
people
get
in
school,
yes,
helps
get
get
our
homes
to
help
fills
out
yes,
and
it
helps
that
we
don't
break
stuff.
Absolutely
that's
what
I'm
a
it
does
a
lot
of
things
on
that
I
mean
it
helps
people.
That's
my
real
main
job
in
our
main
job
is
to
read
a
book.
Call
the
magicians
hat
now.
H
D
C
F
H
We'll
do
is
well
I'll
have
what
well
now
as
I'm
reading
it.
You
guys,
can
open
and
show
it
one
of
the
pictures
and
I'll
just
keep
reading
right
through
it
how's
that
so
you
can
get
a
chance
to
see
what's
going
on,
alright,
so
we're
gonna
hold.
You
can
hold
up
like
that
for
these
guys
and
then
we'll
go
they'll
move
us
out
of
that
page.
Alright!
Here
we
go
family
fun
day
at
the
city.
Public
library
is
a
special
Saturday
that
everyone
looks
forward
to.

The
best
line
in
the
book
that
I
love
follow
your
dreams
and
they
will
take
you
wherever
you
want
to
go.
So
that
means,
when
you
get
older,
whatever
you
want
to
do
in
life
or
a
career
profession,
I
help
people
you
can
actually
do,
but
you
have
to
do
one
thing
first,
before
you
follow
your
dreams.
What
is
the
one
thing
you
need
you
do
to
dink?
Do
you
need
really
strong
before
you
can
follow
your
dreams,
I?
Think
about
it?
Think
about
it
and
then
put
your
hand
out.
D
H
If,
through
all
the
what
else
do
you
need
something?
No,
you
need
something.
What
do
you
need
didn't
know:
I,
drink
milk,
every
night
and
I
love
milk?
What
is
it
wait?
A
minute
you
need
to
read
what
else
you
need
read.
What
what
does
reading
mean?
What
else
do
you
need
something
that
Sonny
was
reading
me
learning?
You
need
to
learn
right,
you
need
an
education,
so
if
you
want
it
whatever
you
want
to
do
in
life,
you
got
it.
You
got
to
make
sure
you're
smart
right
and
then
you
can
read.
H
You
see
the
people
over
here
with
the
TV
cameras
right.
You
think
they
had
to
go
to
school
and
learn
how
to
read
and
speak
in
front
of
a
crowd.
Well,
they
need
to
new
people.
You
think
dr.
Tommy
Chang
was
the
head
of
all
of
our
schools.
You
think
he
had
to
go
to
school
and
learning
about
school
and
kids
and
how
to
do
it
right?
Did
it
the
photographer,
Isabella
taking
pictures
you
think
Isabelle
had
to
learn
to
so
she
learns
photography.
So
what's
the
importance
to
dreams,
learning
all
right?
H
H
H
A
G
H
H
H
What
does
you
play
sports
play,
sports
cool
practices
right
now,
the
school
you
have
this
play
works
out
there,
where
they're
running
back
and
forth.
Where
does
that
give
you?
What's
it
called
energy?
What
else
yeah
knowledge?
What
else
run
you
run
around
exercise,
so
you
exercising
your
body
right?
What
do
think
reading?
Does
you
didn't
read
an
exercise,
your
brain,
keep
it
shop
and
keep
it
moving
forward.
You
think!
H
H
D
H
H
E
H
I
think
you
should
go,
let's,
let's
say
eight
o'clock.
One
last
question:
yes,
me,
you
breathe
air
yeah
nine
o'clock.
Well,
Grady
would
do
a
great
nine
o'clock.
That's
on
my
bubble.
I
think
that's
a
little
kind
of
how
about
that.
One
I
figure
out
what
time
I
might
learn.
My
mother's
sake
go
to
bed
we
went
today.
There
was
no
argument
in
my
house
all
right,
I
gotta
go
yes!
