From YouTube: Tech Boston New Classrooms Launch
Description
Mayor Walsh and Boston Public Schools celebrated the launch of a new series of classrooms at the Tech Boston Academy in Dorchester.
A
B
Welcome
everybody:
my
name
is
Keith
love.
I
am
one
of
your
co.
Headmasters
and
host
with
my
other
co
headmaster,
miss
Nora
vanassa
on
behalf
of
our
tech,
Boston
staff.
In
our
student
body,
we
like
to
welcome
all
of
you
in
celebrating
a
new
and
exciting
partnership
with
new
classroom,
along
with
supporting
the
VPS
vision
and
the
culture
of
we.
We
are
excited
about
the
possibilities
that
innovation
brings
not
only
to
tech
boss,
an
academy
but
our
entire
district.
We
hope
that
you
will
enjoy
and
learn
during
your
visit
today,
so
welcome.
A
Hi
everyone
TVA,
has
always
had
a
mission
of
supporting
student
center
learning
with
technology,
so
teach
21
seamlessly
fit
into
that
as
a
way
to
engage
students
and
we're
thrilled
to
have
the
mayor
with
us
today,
superintendent
Chang,
deputy
superintendent,
ross
wilson,
who
helped
us
navigate
this
process
without
their
support
and
enthusiasm
for
innovation
and
a
more
personalized
approach.
None
of
this
would
be
possible,
so
I
want
to
introduce
mayor
Walsh.
C
Thank
you
very
much.
I
want
to
stop
by
thanking
Rin
and
Keith
for
for
their
great
work
here
at
the
school
and
all
the
students
and
teachers
at
tech,
Boston
Academy.
You
know
it's
a
great
school.
It's
doing
some
great
innovative
things
here
and
I
want
to
thank
them
for
their
great
work.
I
also
want
to
recognize
another
recognize
already
there.
We
come
up
here
in
a
few
minutes
by
Michael
Neal,
the
chairman
of
the
Boston
school
committee.
I,
want
that
Michael
and
the
entire
committee
for
the
work
that
they
do.
C
Superintendent,
Tommy,
Chang
and
I
want
to
thank
him
as
well
and
ross
wilson
who's
been
mentioned
for
really
about
looking
innovation
more.
I
want
to
thank
Joel
rules
and
everyone
at
new
classrooms.
I
know
that
there's
a
lot
of
new
classroom
folks.
Yet
I
was
talking
to
a
lot
of
you
and
they're
excited.
So
I
want
to
thank
you
for
what
you're
doing
for
our
city.
I
just
left,
Suffolk
construction.
We
had
a
groundbreaking,
and
it
was
the
first
time
that
we
had
a
virtual
groundbreaking
where
we
didn't
really
use
a
shovel.
C
We
use
technology
and
it
was
meant
to
show
people
how
a
building
can
be
built
and
really
when
you
think
about
the
future
of
education
in
our
city
in
our
country.
It
really
is
about
technology.
I
also
gave
a
speech
this
week
at
the
Chamber
of
Commerce
and
I
talked
about
the
needs
that
week.
What
we
have
to
do
to
try
to
the
city
may
be
more
resilient
over
the
long
haul.
C
Some
students
might
be
late,
late,
getting
to
college
or
secondary
and
post-secondary
education.
So
it's
important
for
us
to
have
them
on
a
pathway.
These
two
goals
are
a
highest
priority
in
city
in
City
Hall.
We
talk
about
it
all
the
time.
I
know
it's
too
important
goals
for
our
school
department
as
well
as
well
as
our
school
committee.
It
shapes
a
lot
of
the
policy
and
a
lot
of
the
conversations
that
we
have
in
the
city
and
they're
very
closely
connected
as
you
can.
C
That
we've
established
businesses
that
have
come
entirely
dependent
upon
technology
and
that's
how
our
jobs
are
growing
in
the
future
and
when
you
think
about
even
City
Hall,
when
you
think
when
I
came
into
office,
we
were
keeping
data
usually
on
a
yearly
basis,
and
now
we're
keeping
data
tracking
data
in
my
office
on
a
daily
basis
and
using
City
score
and
other
technologies
to
really
make
sure
that
that
we
can
better
deliver
city
services
more
efficiently,
but
also
Tran
of
our
product
track.
Where
we
are
as
a
city.
C
The
partnership's
right
here
show
how
we
take
advantage
of
that.
The
kind
of
skills
and
pathways
these
classrooms
offer
me
to
opportunities
for
our
young
people
and
something
that's
very,
very
exciting.
This
is
where
learning
of
today
becomes
a
career
in
successive
tomorrow
and
I.
Can't
stress
that
enough,
it's
so
important
for
us
to
make
sure
give
a
young
talented
students
an
opportunity.
C
This
is
what
we
mean
by
leveraging
partnerships
and
to
drive
innovation
to
our
school,
and
certainly
when
you
think
of
this
partnership,
we
have
a
lot
of
great
partnerships
in
our
in
our
district.
This
is
one
of
the
ones.
I
think
that
that
really
is
about
creating
a
pathway
for
the
future.
So
I'm
excited
to
learn
about
more
about
this
in
the
classroom
model
that
we're
going
to
see
our
kids
in
the
action
very
excited
about
that,
and
now
I
have
a
great
opportunity
to
introduce
the
chairman
of
the
Boston
School
Committee
Michael
nail.
D
Thank
You
mr.
mayor
delighted
to
be
here
today
on
behalf
of
my
fellow
members
of
the
school
committee,
and
you
know
this
is
all
about
innovation.
I
love
when
we
come
to
tech
Boston
because,
as
represented
by
head
mast,
is
brenna.
Z
and
love
is
always
new,
creative
things
going
on
in
tech,
Boston
right,
remember
years,
a
couple
years
ago,
when
we
here
with
President
Obama,
because
he
was
highlighting
it
says
he
said
at
the
time.
We
know
how
to
do
it.
D
D
chain
to
come
in
and
implement
that
plan,
and
that's
exactly
what
he's
been
doing
he's
launched
at
district-wide
model
that
supports
boosting
equity
coherence
and
innovation
throughout
the
district,
and
it's
interesting
dr.
Chang
when
he
first
talked
to
us
as
a
candidate
for
superintendent
and
when
he
first
met
a
lot
of
the
public.
He
talks
so
often
about
the
classrooms.
Now
he
said
he
would
say,
Google
classrooms
in
the
1900s
in
the
1950s
and
2000,
and
the
only
difference
is
in
the
pictures.
In
the
two
thousand,
the
pictures
were
in
color
1950
s.
D
It
was
the
exact
same
well.
The
teach
to
one
model
is
different.
It's
differentiated
learning
it's
into
individualized
learning
and
what
Joel
and
Chris
developed
in
New
York
and
now
expanded
to
many
other
parts
of
the
country.
We're
delighted
that
we
get
to
work
with
our
partners
that
strategically
and
partners
in
bar
foundation
and
others
that
have
helped
us
bring
this
innovative
model
to
Boston.
D
It
may
be
new
for
us,
but
it's
being
used
in
a
number
of
the
parts
of
the
country,
and
the
results
was
certainly
successful
enough
that
we're
very
intrigued
by
doing
idea
so
love
the
fact
that
Oh
headmasters
of
tech
bhasin
have
embraced
it
with
the
teaching
team
here,
and
we
look
forward
to
learning
more
about
it
and
seen
where
results
in
Boston.
So
congratulations
for
this
and
I
joined
the
mirror
and
saying
we
look
forward
to
seeing
it
in
action
and
now
look
forward
to
handed
over
to
our
superintendent,
dr.
Tommy
Chang.
E
Good
morning,
Thank
You
mayor
for
your
comments.
Thank
you
terminal,
Neil,
mayor
I
just
want
to
especially
thank
you,
of
course,
talking
about
issues
of
equity
and
leading
with
equity
in
the
city.
It
is
it's
absolutely
so
critical
for
not
only
for
the
city,
also
our
country
at
this
time,
we're
here
to
celebrate
innovation,
our
schools
and
this
innovation.
These
innovations
would
not
be
possible
if
it
wasn't
for
the
support
of
strategic
grant
partners
a
bar
foundation
new
prophet
I,
just
want
to
thank
you
guys
as
well
for
being
here.
Boston
is
an
innovation
hub.
E
Our
school
district
is
adapting
its
evolving
its
building,
a
culture
of
innovation,
not
only
in
this
school
but
throughout
the
district
wait.
We
will
be
celebrating
this
school
today,
because
this
school
has
had
a
rich
history
of
innovation.
It
is
a
bright
spot
for
innovation,
and
so
this
new
partnership
between
new
classrooms
and
the
Boston
Public
Schools.
It
made
sense
for
it
to
start
here
at
Tech,
Boston
Academy.
This
work
is
going
to
be
critical
in
closing
opportunity
and
achievement
gaps
and
we're
building
a
system,
as
mr.
E
O'neill
said,
about
around
equity
coherence
and
innovation,
you're
going
to
see
something,
that's
very
different.
Students
will
be
receiving
individualized
attention,
they
will
be,
they
will
be
working
on
computers.
They
will
receive
different
types
of
service
delivery
with
how
they
get
content
and
how
they
get
extra
support,
so
very
excited
to
be
able
to
show
everybody
new
classrooms.
Today,
this
year
at
Tech,
Boston
students
will
learn
math,
you
will
see
from
adults
and
their
peers
by
themselves
through
the
computer,
and
this
was
will
all
happen
within
the
same
classroom
in
the
same
space.
E
Hopefully
also
what
is
going
on
at
this
school
well
then
spread
to
other
schools,
maybe
not
the
exact
model,
but
the
belief
that
we
do
need
to
radically
transform
the
way
we
deliver
instruction
in
2016
and
beyond.
So
I
will
only
give
one
more
special.
Thank
you
to
Deputy
Superintendent
ross
wilson
ross
wilson
is
our
deputy
superintendent
innovation
administration
and
he's
been
critical
in
making
sure
that
this
partnership
happened.
So
thank
you
to
all
the
students.
All
the
families,
all
educators
who
are
here
today,
we
will
close
opportunities.
E
F
Thank
you,
dr.
Chang
I
also
first
want
to
want
to
thank
the
mayor
for
allowing
us
to
be
part
of
your
vision
to
continue
to
make
Boston
a
global
leader
in
technology
and
innovation
to
Sonia
Oh,
dr.
Chang,
Ross
well
suited
for
believing
in
our
work
and
bringing
us
bringing
our
work
to
Boston
and
aunt
the
tech
Boston
community
for
really
wanting
to
bring
that
vision
to
life
for
kids.
Here
our.
A
F
That's
what
we
lead
back
in
Massachusetts
cuz,
that's
what
we'll
teach
kids
to
learn,
and
that
became
the
blueprint
for
how
we
teach
kids,
not
only
in
Massachusetts
but
all
around
the
country
and
what
we
know
today
that
I'm
sure
he
didn't
know
back
then,
is
that
model
is
really
hard
teachers.
It
is
nearly
impossible
for
any
one
teacher
to
meet
the
unique
needs
of
each
student
each
day
and
so
with
school
partners
like
tech,
Boston
and
our
39
other
partners
around
the
country.
We
are
trying
to
turn
the
page
on
that
factory
model.
F
Classroom
we
will
see
today
is
a
math
program
that
we
call
teach
21
and
the
way
it
works
is
if
you're,
a
seventh
grader
here
and
let's
say,
you've,
got
reading
first
period
of
room,
206
and
you've
got
PE
second
period.
In
the
gym
third
period
of
math
and
what
we'll
do
formats
does
you'll
follow
this
path
right
along
and
we'll
have
a
series
of
five
or
six
classrooms
that
we're
all
working
with
and
you'll
know
it.
Look
up
and
you'll
see
these
big
TV
monitors
that
look
like
we
see
the
airport.
F
You
see
your
name
and
you
see
which
station
you're
supposed
to
go
to,
so
you
might
spend
a
first
35
minutes
working
on
area
of
a
triangle.
With
the
teacher
you
hear
some
music
play.
It's
really
loud,
I
warn
you
in
advance,
then
you
spend
the
next
30
minutes
working
on
air
of
a
triangle.
Maybe,
with
some
software
hear
some
music
play
the
last
10
minutes,
you
take
an
online
assessment,
an
area
of
a
triangle
and
then
you're
off
to
social
studies.
F
We
then
take
the
data
from
that
daily
assessment
and
create
a
new
schedule
for
you
for
the
next
day,
based
on
how
you
did
the
previous
day,
I
have
to
tell
you.
We
are
I
think
this
is
our
third
day
of
scheduling
if
I'm
not
incorrect
at
Tech
Boston.
We
never
do
tourists
this
this
early,
but
we
have
actually
rarely
seen
a
school
that
is
taken
to
this
model
so
quickly,
as
we've
seen
a
tech
Boston.
We
could
be
more
excited
about
how
well
the
staff
is
taken
to
this.
F
G
Hello,
as
you
already
know,
I
am
anthony
reyes
and
I
am
one
of
the
students
in
afraid
who
has
been
partnered
and
the
tto
program.
It
is
a
very
great
program.
It
is
very
helpful
for
us
to
learn
new
ways
to
discover
how
get
to
learn
about
math
or
this
year.
It
will
start
off
with
a
very
confusing
way,
because
none
of
us
really
understand
any
of
this.
We
were
all
confused
at
the
beginning
of
school,
but
since
we
all
came
closer
to
the
first
couple
of
weeks,
we
all
got
into
notice
how
this
works.
G
G
And
in
this
school
we
have
about
nine
math
teachers.
Well,
we
could
revolve
over
to
because
each
day
everything
will
rotate.
It
will
be
different
teachers,
different
learning
segments
and
different
ways
of
learning.
Some
students
prefer
to
work
in
groups
know
sceles
prefer
to
work
alone,
some
prefer
to
work
alone
on
the
computer.
That's
why,
each
day
we
have
different
ways
to
learn,
because
then
we
SG
see
if
that
stands
for
small
group
collaboration
that
will
be
perfect
for
solution
lights
and
working
groups.
Then
we
have
live
investigation.
