From YouTube: Boston Latin School 2016 Annual Dinner
Description
Boston Latin School teachers, students and alumni gather at the Marriott Long Wharf in the Seaport for their annual Alumni Dinner.
A
A
We
are
artists
and
athletes,
composers
and
competitors,
community
leaders
and
activists
and,
above
all,
students
dedicated
to
a
Latin
School
tradition
that
rewards
our
hard
work
and
dedication
with
friendship,
confidence
and
skills
that
lead
to
rewarding
lives.
I
am
honored
to
be
among
you
all
to
share
the
celebration
and
to
let
you
know
that
when
it
comes
to
the
class
of
2017
your
school,
our
school
could
not
be
in
better
hands.
A
A
B
Attention,
former
60s
and
four
B's
Latin
schoolers
and
Latin
scholars
here
is
the
2016
edition
of
BLS
trivia.
The
award
for
the
first
complete
set
of
correct
answers
is
two
tickets
to
a
Red
Sox
game
in
the
coming
season
or,
if
you
weren't
in
Boston
last
season
next
season
for
those
that
have
won
before
you
will
find
paper
at
your
tables.
In
a
pinch,
use
a
napkin,
no
books
no
drops
and
please
no
technological
aids.
B
B
That's
question:
1
question
2
at
BLS,
we
all
studied
in
class,
6
or
4b
Latin,
verbs,
nouns
and
adjectives
here
are
three
that
we
all
learned,
but
some
of
us
may
not
remain
a
hick
hike,
Hawk,
etc,
etc.
Be
ammo,
ammas,
our
mod
etcetera,
see
men
saw
men,
sigh
etc.
So
what
is
the
meaning
in
English
of
each
of
them?
B
Number
five
back
to
the
classroom:
what
do
the
following
words
have
in
common
how,
sir,
by
myth,
not
sight
fun
and
sooo?
What
do
those
words
have
in
common
and
last
number?
Six,
the
ever-popular
question
about
the
grok
I,
the
famous
populous
of
the
second
century
BC,
were
the
names
of
these
brothers
Gaius
and
Tiberias,
Julius
and
Octavius
or
Irving
and
Marvin.
B
C
Councillor
Campbell,
thank
you
good
evening.
Everyone
I'm
Peter
Kelly,
perhaps
familiar
to
most
of
you
in
the
room.
This
is
my
eighth
year
standing
here
and
it's
a
year
of
great
celebration
for
me
because
for
eight
years,
I've
been
waiting
to
deliver
a
message
to
the
sainted
classes,
the
special
classes,
the
prized
classes
of
Boston
Latin
School.
When
I
came
into
this
role,
Cornelia
Kelly
headmaster,
Meredith,
an
honorary
member
of
the
class
of
1944
who's.
Here
with
us
this
evening,
hi
Cornelia.
C
She
told
me
you
will
come
to
understand
that
not
all
Boston,
Latin
School
classes
are
the
same,
that
each
has
its
character,
its
personalities
and
it
wasn't
long
before
I
learned
that
I
was
too
genuflect
before
the
class
of
1957
or
to
pay
homage
to
the
classes
of
65
86
90
to
74
78.
These
are
among
the
famous
Boston
Latin
School
classes,
but
tonight
I
tell
them
all
to
stand
down
because
I'm,
a
member
of
the
Boston
Latin
School
class
of
1983.
C
So
thank
you
to
our
platinum
sponsors
for
this
evening
and
all
they've
done
to
make
possible
the
attendance
of
faculty
and
students
and
for
their
work
and
your
work
in
making
the
Boston
Latin
School
Associations
effort
and
investment
in
the
students
of
Boston,
Latin,
School
possible.
I.
Think
all
of
us
will
leave
here
tonight
without
having
heard
yet
the
words
of
Mike
Levin,
our
distinguished
graduate
or
Mike
aanapisis.
Our
great
hero
this
year,
I
think
we'll
all
leave
with
redoubled
pride
in
the
work
of
this
school
and
the
purpose
of
this
school.
C
C
And
I
think
this
is
a
moment
where
we
should
lift
our
glasses,
we're
gonna,
lift
them
twice,
so
you
can
start
with
water
if
you
choose
or
something
stronger.
The
first
toast
I'd
like
to
give
this
evening
is
to
the
25th
headmaster
of
Boston
Latin
School,
Michael
Cana
Pacis
he's
rejected
any
characterization
of
his
actions
as
heroism,
but
I
think
there
are
about
314
people
in
the
room
tonight.
Who
would
disagree
so
with
gratitude
to
you,
Mike
and
especially
to
Joan
for
the
sacrifices
you're
making
this
year?
F
G
A
H
I
F
You
were
to
go
around
the
building
today
and
look
at
classrooms.
You
peek
in
the
doors
and
what
you
see
our
teachers,
who
are
active,
they're,
moving
around
classrooms,
they're
doing
all
sorts
of
things,
but
they're,
creating
an
environment
where
kids
are
creating
producing
and
then
challenging.
Learning
questioning.
H
D
I
Is
critical,
I
mean
I?
Think
that's
really
what
we're
trying
to
say
when
we
say
we
want
the
students,
you
know
to
really
understand
what
they
have
been
able
to
accomplish
and
that
they
are
now
part
of
a
legacy
they
own
that
legacy.
They
must
support
it.
They
must
continue
to
uphold
it.
If
you
will
this.
E
J
B
We
have
a
winner
with
a
footnote,
but
it's
close
enough
and
the
winner
I
will
announce
momentarily,
but
I
do
just
want
to
say
that
nobody
actually
got
all
of
them
fully
correct
and
the
one
that
puzzled
most
people
was
how,
sir,
by
MIT,
etc,
etc,
and
there
were
some
people
that
put
down
prepositions,
which
is
literally
true,
but
not
sufficient
by
any
standard.
Some
people
put
down
German
prepositions,
for
which
they
got
credit,
but
the
real
answer
is
German
prepositions
that
take
the
dative
case.
B
However,
you
would
consider
me
to
be
in
Boston
terms
a
hod
grade
up
if
I
were
to
use
that
definition
so
table
12
is
the
winner
and
I
would
appreciate
the
table
12
representative
coming
over
to
me
at
table
6,
but
let's
give
a
round
of
applause
not
only
to
table
12
but
to
everyone
who
participated
this
evening.
Thank
you
very
much.
I
Good
evening,
our
school
truly
does
have
a
legacy
of
excellence,
and
it's
one
that
I,
like
most
of
you,
I'm
honored,
to
serve
and
perpetuate
good
evening
and
welcome
students,
faculty
parents,
guests
and
alumni
before
I.
Get
into
my
remarks,
I'd
like
to
recognize
the
people
at
the
Latin
School
in
the
community
who
make
that
school.
I
I
While
I
didn't
seek
the
opportunity
for
a
second
go-around
as
headmaster,
Here
I
am
the
old
rhythms
have
returned,
but
I'll
tell
you.
Some
things
are
a
little
bit
different.
The
quarters
are
about
twice
as
long
and
the
staircases
about
three
times
as
high
as
they
used
to
be,
but
I've
learned.
The
banisters
are
a
steady
and
strong
as
the
school
itself.
I
I
Less
fortunate
I
found
an
art
swing,
a
dream
I
had
for
decades
and
helped
to
bring
to
fruition,
but
never
got
to
enjoy
that
literally,
let's
the
school
sink
I
found
staff,
many
of
them
BLSA
funded,
will
work
energetically
with
faculty
to
ensure
robust
and
challenging
opportunities
in
global
studies
in
athletics,
student
support
and
leadership,
development
I
found
technology
greatly.
Enhancing
the
learning
environment
and
I
found
an
emphasis
on
wellness
and
well-being
that
lets
our
kids
flourish
safely.
I
have
not
returned
to
the
school
I
left.
I
I
In
a
quiet
and
unheralded
manner,
over
18
years,
they
transformed
our
school
in
very
substantial
ways
that
have
allowed
our
students
to
soar.
Indeed,
their
work,
especially
that
of
dr.
taters,
was
acknowledged
by
the
New
England
Association
of
schools
and
colleges
in
its
recent
lowering
rhea
credit,
a
ssin
report,
replete
with
superlatives,
following
a
two-year
review
process.
That
review
resulted
in
a
highly
unusual,
a
highly
unusual
decision
to
grant
an
exceptional
10-year
accreditation
to
Boston
Latin
School.
I
I
We
should
never
assume
that
the
Latin
school
of
yesteryear
would
be
the
best
Latin
School.
For
today
we
should
never
put
BLS
on
a
pedestal
that
doesn't
allow
us
to
see
the
school
in
its
entirety
and
acknowledge
when
the
place
needs
a
good
dusting.
That's
where
we
find
ourselves
today,
our
school
has
endured
a
challenging
2016.
I
That
effort
is
very
much
for
the
good
of
BLS
and
I
am
grateful
for
all
of
you
that
all
that
you
are
doing
to
understand
it
and
to
support
it.
The
work
we're
engaged
in
now
is
hard,
but
one
has
anyone
at
Latin
school
ever
shied
away
from
hard
work.
What
we
do
at
Latin
school
is,
we
answer
the
call
and
we
meet
the
challenge
when
I
was
called
in
June
I
answered
today.
I
am
calling
on
all
of
you.
I
What
I
need
from
each
of
you
is
to
answer
the
call
all
two
just
as
I
did.
Please
help
me
to
ensure
that
the
school
remains
true
to
its
mission
and
remains
an
open
gate
to
all
who
enter
and
all
who
work
diligently
to
fulfill
their
dreams
and
ambitions,
as
we
did
tonight
as
we
prepare
to
honor.
Our
distinguished
graduate
I'd
like
to
ask
you
to
join
me
in
welcoming
to
the
stage
some
gentlemen
who
have
answered
alma
mater
is
called
in
notable
ways.
Over
many
years
are
past
distinguished
graduates
who
are
here
this
evening.
I
I
In
fact,
mike
has
been
less
successful
than
the
rest
of
us
in
as
much
as
he
has
tried
to
do
it
several
times,
but
hasn't
quite
figured
it
out.
Yet
his
most
recent
attempt
came
when
he
left
Las
Vegas
Sands
in
2014
within
a
month.
He
was
back
in
the
leadership
fishbowl
this
time.
Almost
literally
as
the
chairman
and
CEO
of
the
Georgia
Aquarium
a
post,
he
holds
today
and
not
unlike
yours.
Truly
a
post
he's
held
before
I
think
there's
something
catching
about
the
name
Mike.
I
I
I
understand
from
Lynne
and
Peter
Kelly
that
Mike
showed
great
partnership
and
flexibility
in
creating
that
position
and
I
can
attest
to
the
great
wisdom
that
partnership
showed,
because
the
Levin
Director
of
Athletics
position
is
an
absolutely
critical
position
on
our
leadership
team,
Mike's,
community
service
and
charitable
involvement
extend
well
beyond
Boston
Latin
School.
He
has
established
scholarships
and
made
other
contributions
to
both
Tufts
and
Boston
University,
as
well
as
to
Hadassah
University
in
Israel,
offering
scholarships
solely
to
underrepresented
groups
in
that
country.
I
He
is
a
fierce
defender
of
American
ideals,
any
values,
community
and
family.
Above
all
else,
he
and
Andrea
have
three
sons,
one
of
whom
surprised
Mike
by
being
here
this
evening,
Adam
Levin
is
a
department
head
for
classics
at
Germantown
Academy
in
Pennsylvania,
no
doubt
traces,
his
own
professional
roots
to
his
father's
devotion
to
the
classics
fostered
at
BLS.
I
The
reasons
to
honor
Mike
Levin
are
many
but
they're,
perhaps
best
summed
up
by
one
of
his
oldest
friends:
BLS
classmate
Arnie
coral,
who
was
today
a
world
renowned,
pediatric
surgeon
based
at
the
University
of
Michigan
in
nominating
Mike
for
this
award
Arnie
shared
Mike
and
I.
First
met
at
grammar
school
at
the
Salomon
luan
Berg
in
Mattapan,
and
became
great
friends
during
Latin
School,
though
our
lives
followed
diverging
academic,
professional
and
geographic
paths.
I
We
have
remained
devoted
lifelong
friends,
I
can
say
with
confidence
that
a
man
of
more
humility,
charity
and
devotion
to
in
Latin
school.
You
will
not
find
those
of
us
who
know
you
Mike
Levin
are
in
complete
agreement.
It
is
now
my
pleasure,
on
behalf
of
everyone
in
this
room,
more
than
2400
students,
125
faculty
and
countless
parents
and
alumni
to
present
you
the
highest
honor
of
the
Boston
Latin
School
Association,
and
to
recognize
you
as
the
2016
distinguished
graduates,
Mike.
I
Sorry,
examples
of
his
innovation
and
influence
in
the
hospitality
industry,
a
dedicated
philanthropist
who
has
bestowed
good
fortune
on
numerous
Civic
and
educational
organizations,
paying
it
forward
throughout
his
career,
a
sought-after
lecturer
and
sage
mentor,
who
has
helped
to
develop
the
next
generation
of
hospitality.
Industry
leaders,
a
proud
son
of
Boston
Latin
School,
whose
life
and
success
stand
in
testament
to
Alma
modest
legacy
and
influence
given
on
the
date
November
19th
2016.
K
K
K
Sent
my
son,
a
draft
of
the
speech
and
I,
asked
them
because
his
master's
degree
was
in
Virgil
if
he
could
give
me
an
appropriate
line
to
use
to
open
the
speech
which
he
did.
I
am
now
going
to
present
it
in
Latin
and
for
all
the
faculty
here
and
all
the
Latin
teachers
and
whatever
I
may
embarrass
myself
by
trying
to
remember
how
to
pronounce
these
words.
But
I
will
try.
K
Aeneas
addresses
this
line
to
his
group
of
fellow
Trojan
refugees
in
book.
One
after
they've
landed
in
a
strange
place.
I
may
have
read
this
line
in
class
one
but
I.
Don't
remember
and
I
didn't.
Remember
then
how
to
translate
it
either
the
line
says
force
on
earth,
hike
or
limb.
Reminisce
say
you
are
bit
translated,
it
says
perhaps
someday
it
will
be
pleasing
to
remember.
Even
these
things,
I
use
it
tonight
to
say
even
tonight.
K
K
K
Thank
you
to
Peter,
Kelly
and
members
of
the
committee
for
choosing
me
I'm,
truly
humbled
by
this
honor.
Thank
you
to
the
five
Latin
School
attendees,
who
signed
the
Declaration
of
Independence
in
1976,
John,
Hancock,
Samuel,
Adams,
Benjamin,
Franklin
Robert
treat
Paine
and
William
Hooper
without
those
and
other
signers
I.
Don't
believe
any
of
us
would
be
here
tonight
living
in
the
freedom
of
a
society.
We
all
no
matter
our
political
affiliations
holds
so
dear
in
our
hearts.
K
Thank
you
to
my
deceased,
maternal
grandparents,
Ida
and
Frank
Goldberg,
who
came
to
this
country
from
Eastern
Europe
in
the
early
night
in
the
early
20th
centuries,
with
the
only
resource
of
their
common
set
of
values,
ethics
and
concern
for
others.
They
mentored
me
in
a
three-story
apartment
building
at
624,
Norfolk
Street
in
Mattapan
at
the
corner
of
Blue
Hill
Avenue
across
the
street,
from
a
Texaco
gas
station
for
the
first
16
years
of
my
life.
Thank
you
to
David
and
Sarah
Levin.
K
My
parents,
David
was
a
graduate
of
Dorchester
high
school
one
of
the
first
in
his
family
to
graduate
from
high
school
and
Cerie
of
Jeremiah
Burke
as
an
only
child.
My
mother's
love
of
reading
and
scholarship
left
an
indelible
impression
on
the
importance
of
education
and
David.
My
father
instilled
in
me
a
love
for
the
customer.
He
was
a
Salesman
and
a
passion
beyond
all
for
the
Red
Sox,
the
Celtics,
the
Bruins
and
the
Patriots
teaching
me
that
it's
not
whether
you
win
a
lose,
but
it's
really
how
you
play
the
game
that
counts.
K
Thank
you
to
my
spouse
of
nearly
fifty
six
years.
Andrea,
who
couldn't
be
here
tonight
for
her
love
and
support.
As
my
career
in
business
took
us
to
homes
in
Sudbury,
Stamford,
Connecticut,
West,
Carville,
New,
Jersey,
Glencoe,
Illinois,
Atlanta,
Georgia
NASA,
and
the
Bahamas
Las
Vegas
and
finally
Boca
Raton
Florida.
Believe
me,
it
was
a
lot
of
packing
and
unpacking
special.
K
K
Par
secunda,
when
I
first
entered
our
school
in
1951
in
Class
B
from
the
Salomon
luan
Berg
junior
high
school,
it
was
actually
Anna.
Coren
and
I
were
in
the
Martha
Baker
and
child's
loge
grammar
schools
before
the
song
Newburgh,
and
he
was
in.
He
was
a
sick,
C
and
I
was
a
for
B.
Never
let
me
forget
that
either
it
was
relatively
easy
going
in
for
be
approbation
cards,
a
classics
prize,
junior,
varsity,
basketball
and
a
little
stress.
The
commute.
The
commute
was
probably
the
hardest
thing.
K
At
that
time,
the
only
disappointment
was
not
making
the
baseball
team,
but
I
got
through
that
to
class.
3B
was
the
real
test
for
me,
that
was
doc.
Roaches
homeroom
I
went
from
90
to
65
and
one
year,
not
very
good,
even
as
I
watched,
40
or
50
percent
of
the
young
men
drop
out
and
leave
for
other
high
schools,
but
I
studied
harder
got
to
the
finish.
I,
sometimes
think
how
hard
it
really
was,
but
I
got
there.
K
Later
in
life,
I
got
a
lot
of
jobs,
I
didn't
want,
didn't
run
for
anything.
I
lost
to
my
the
presidency
to
David
Rosenthal,
wonderful,
young
man,
old
man,
now
class
of
55
bob
watkins.
When
the
secretary
award
he
played
on
the
basketball
team
with
me
I'll
mention
him
a
little
later.
I
was
happy
to
see.
I
knew
both
of
those
men
and
they've
established
themselves
very,
very
well
in
the
course
of
their
histories
as
well.
The
LeBrock
tourim
yearbook
in
1955
provided
a
statement
under
my
picture.
K
K
As
most
latin
school
graduates
would
say,
I
hope
latin
school
changed
my
life.
The
school
challenged
me
in
every
way.
Taught
me
to
study,
taught
me
to
compete
with
those
much
more
area
di't
than
I.
They
pushed
me
everyday
in
everyway,
most
important
with
two
things:
discipline
and
the
ability
to
understand
others
who
were
different
growing
up
in
the
40s
and
50s
in
the
jewish
ghetto
of
Matapan,
Dorchester
and
Roxbury.
My
only
exposures
were
two
others
who
were
mostly
like
me,
except
for
when
I
ran
into
the
parish
priest
at
st.
K
Angelus,
who
asked
me
if
I
could
play
on
his
CYO
baseball
team.
I
never
did,
but
in
Latin
school
my
friends
were
Irish
Italian
and
fellow
basketball
friend
African
American,
Bob,
Watkins
and
I
began
to
see
that,
at
the
end
of
the
day,
different
backgrounds
could
be
more
interesting
than
just
everyone
being
the
same.
K
Those
experiences
added
greatly
to
what,
for
me,
has
been
a
diverse
and
usual
career,
Thank
You
Latin
school
for
opening
my
eyes.
It
was
then
my
responsibility
to
use
what
was
taught
to
help
accomplish
what
I
have
done
in
my
personal
business
and
philanthropic
endeavors,
when
Peter
Kelly
called
to
ask
me
if
I
would
accept
this
award,
it
was
around
the
time
where
problems
at
our
school
and
problems
in
our
country
were
causing
loss
of
concern
and
those
times
haven't
changed
in
our
country.
K
For
sure,
a
few
weeks
later,
Lyn
Moody
Teddy
Tita
resigned
her
position
and
her
assistant
Malcolm
Flynn,
followed
I
called
Peter
and
suggested
that
Lynn
received
this
award
instead
of
myself
I
felt
she
deserved
it
less
than
a
day
later.
He
called
me
and
said
that
wouldn't
work
the
times
not
right,
it
was
too
early,
so
I
remained
the
recipient,
so
I
said
to
Peter.
Is
it
okay?
If
I
say
some
things
that
I'd
like
to
say,
and
he
said
sure
you
can
say
anything
you
want.
K
In
any
way
that
I'm
going
to
say
just
a
few
things,
this
is
the
second
part
of
the
talk.
I'll
start
with
something
kind
of
interesting
Mel,
Brooks
of
whom
I'm
a
big
fan
and
Carl
Reiner,
who
I'm
also
a
fan
of
they
used
to
do
CDs
on
that
CDs.
You
know
say
that
anymore,
on
a
show
called
the
2000
year
old
man.
Many
of
you
may
have
heard
about
the
2000
year
old
man
tonight,
actually
by
10
I,
feel
like
the
2000
man.
K
One
night
I
think
was
the
last
recording
where
Reiner
asked
Brooks.
She
said
to
him:
you're
a
2000
years
old
and
Mel
said
sure
said:
I
want
to
ask
you
what
was
the
most
famous
invention
in
the
2,000
years?
You've
been
on
this
earth,
Mel
didn't
waste
a
second
and
he
answered
nothing,
clothes
frozen,
yogurt
and
Kyle
said
really
and
Mel
said
and
amazingly
enough,
you
can
swirl
the
chocolate
and
vanilla
in
one
cone,
so
I
thought
today:
I
do
the
opposite.
K
I
was
thinking
about
what
was
the
worst
invention
in
2,000
years
and
I
came
up
with
my
own
answer.
The
ballpoint
pen.
You
might
ask
why
and
the
answer:
when
pencils
were
used,
they
had
a
racist
when
ballpoint
pens
are
used,
they
don't
so.
When
you
make
a
mistake,
you
have
to
start
over.
You
need
to
use
a
new
piece
of
paper
to
add
insult
to
injury.
I
want
to
add
a
story
of
the
ballpoint
pen.
K
When
NASA
started
sending
astronauts
to
outer
space,
they
quickly
discover
that
the
ballpoint
pens
would
not
work
when
you
turn
them
upside
down
when
you
turned
him
around,
etc
and
to
combat
the
problem.
Our
Congress
decided
to
issue
a
program
to
NASA
scientists
that
took
ten
years
and
over
a
hundred
and
sixty-five
million
dollars
to
develop
a
pen
that
writes
in
zero-gravity
almost
on
any
surface
and
at
temperatures
ranging
from
below
freezing
to
over
300
degrees
of
heat.
K
K
When
I
grew
up,
you
could
use
the
same
piece
of
paper.
If
you
made
a
mistake
simply
using
a
non
led
end
of
the
pencil,
the
reality
is
today,
the
ballpoint
pen
has
caused
us
to
fear
mistakes
be
taught
be
intolerant
of
errors
to
penalize
both
and
society
seems
to
have
returned
to
an
age
of
both
non
forgiveness
and
judgments
of
individuals
prior
to
appropriate
legal
process
and
prior
to
appropriate
facts.
K
A
society
when
we
expect
perfection
which
in
fact
can
never
be
attained
as
a
terrible
danger
caused
by
instability
and
inability
to
listen
and
to
understand
when
the
Tufts
University
I
was
an
actor
believe
it
or
not.
It
doesn't
come
out
and
my
resume
wasn't
that
good,
but
I
played
the
role
of
Reverend
Hale
and
Arthur
Miller's
play
the
crucible
at
the
end,
I
begged
Elizabeth
Proctor,
to
confess
her
witchcraft,
though
I
knew
she
was
innocent,
but
she
would
not
confess
before
being
put
to
death.
K
Similarly,
a
society
that
jumps
to
conclusions
for
what
may
look
to
be
a
proper
agenda
threatens
the
very
core
of
our
freedom,
the
freedom
that
so
many
of
our
country.
Men
and
women
have
given
their
lives
to
protect
after
the
investigation
at
our
school,
their
inappropriate
behaviors
7/7
incidents,
of
which
six
were
handled
correctly
and
one.
Perhaps
not.
The
proponents
of
the
investigation
didn't
stop
their
intervention
and
did
more.
They
didn't
focus
on
what
was
done
properly.
K
They
were
judged
by
those
whose
basic
agenda
might
be
Noble,
but
whose
continuing
and
continued
intolerance
for
error
caused
the
result
that,
in
fact,
could
have
affected
not
the
reality
of
what
was
their
objective,
but
even
could
make
it
harder
to
achieve
I.
Don't
like
overreaching
governments,
there's
something
about
Sam
Adams
that
descended
into
me.
We
wouldn't
be
here
without
him:
either
I
dislike
those
who
destroy
in
order
to
achieve
their
personal
agenda,
no
matter
what
their
position
I
always
ask.
Enlightened
well-meaning,
loving
people
with
seemingly
appropriate
objectives.
K
Do
not
burn
the
field
think
before
acting
compromise,
but
never
live
with
the
philosophy
that
the
end
justifies
the
means
and
for
our
leaders,
I
urge
them
stand
up
and
defend
those
who
are
abused.
Unfortunately,
in
our
case,
many
that
could
have
stood
up
stood
by
silently.
Perhaps
they
do
not
remember
the
biblical
commands
John,
eight
seven.
K
If
any
of
you
was
without
sin,
let
him
be
the
first
to
throw
a
stone.
Maybe
we
should
all
remember
paz
tertia
to
conclude
for
some
55
years,
it
was
my
magnificent
privilege
to
warn
to
the
world
to
see
the
human
race
in
63
countries
to
observe
the
wonders
of
nature,
the
wonders
of
man,
the
Taj
Mahal,
the
pyramids
Angkor
Wat
and
the
miracles
of
nature's
national
parks,
the
Alps,
the
Andes,
the
Grand
Canyon
and
the
works
of
man,
the
Vatican
Jerusalem
and
most
of
the
world's
capital
cities.
K
I
have
been
a
tourist
almost
everywhere,
with
the
intention
beyond
just
what
was
built
by
humans,
but
how
they
behave
and
what
their
inside
are
all
about.
I
have
learned
that
common
values
are
more
important
than
individual
differences,
that
those
commonalities
are
the
ones
that
should
bind
us
together,
not
tear
us.
Apart
two
summers
ago,
I
was
stunned
in
Aspen
Colorado,
when
I
wandered
into
the
John
Denver
Denver
memorial.
There
was
not
even
at
the
Mission
Church.
K
It
was
in
fact
the
most
remarkable
experience
of
all
the
rest,
a
series
of
granite
stones
and
each
inscribed
with
the
lyrics
by
the
late
author.
One
of
them
will
finish
this
two
long
dissertation
tonight
combine
a
precious
earth
promise,
sir.
Poems
prayers
and
promises
I've
been
thinking
lately
about
my
life's
time,
all
the
things
I've
done
and
how
it's
been
and
I
can't
help
believing
in
my
own
mind,
I
know
I'm
gonna
hate
to
see
it
end
I've
seen
a
lot
of
sunshine.
K
I've
slept
out
in
the
rain
spent
the
night
or
two
all
on
my
own
I've
known
my
lady's
pleasures
had
myself
some
friends
spent
the
time
or
two
in
my
own
house,
I
have
to
say
it
now.
It's
been
a
good
life
all
in
all.
It's
really
fine
to
have
a
chance
to
hang
around
and
lie
there
by
the
fire
and
watch
the
evening
tire.
K
While
all
my
friends
and
my
old
lady
sit
and
pass
the
pipe
around
and
talk
of
poems
and
prayers
and
promises
and
things
that
we
believe
in
how
sweet
it
is
to
love
someone
how
right
it
is
to
care
how
long
it's
been
since
yesterday
and
what
about
tomorrow,
and
what
about
our
dreams
and
all
the
memories
that
we
share
days.
They
pass
so
quickly.
Now
the
Knights
are
self
self
them
long
time
around
me
whispers
when
it's
cold,
the
changes
somehow
frighten
me
still
I
have
to
smile.
K
K
I
have
to
say
it
again:
it's
been
a
good
life
and
all
it's
really
fine
to
have
a
chance
to
hang
around
and
lie
there
by
the
fire
and
watch
the
evening
tire,
while
all
my
friends
and
my
old
lady
sit
and
pass
the
pipe
around
and
talk
of
poems
and
prayers
and
promises
and
things
we
believe
in
and
what
about
our
dreams
and
all
the
memories
we
share.
This
has
been
a
great
honor
for
me.
Thank
you
for
having
me
in
Army
and
good
luck
to
everybody
at
BLS.
J
Mr.
Levin,
your
comments
were
just
beautiful
and
they
touched
me
and
congratulations
on
your
award
and
thank
you
for
all
you've
done
to
elevate
our
school
and
thank
you
mr.
Cana
passes
I
honestly,
don't
know
how
we
would
have
made
it
through
this
year
without
you
and
to
all
of
you
here
this
evening.
Thank
you
for
your
fidelity
to
the
work
of
the
BLSA.
