Description
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Boston School Committee holds "virtual" meetings online in order to practice safe social distancing and stay current with issues important to the Boston Public Schools.
A
A
C
A
Thank
you,
miss
sullivan.
At
this
time.
I
would
like
to
entertain
a
motion
for
the
school
committee
to
adjourn
to
executive
session
for
the
purpose
of
conducting
a
strategy
session
related
to
collective
bargaining
with
the
boston
teachers
union
and
to
conduct
a
strategy
session
in
preparations
for
negotiations
with
the
superintendent
of
schools.
Non-Union
personnel
to
have
this
discussion
in
open
meeting
would
could
have
a
detrimental
effect
on
the
committee's
bargaining
position.
The
committee
will
return
to
public
section
at
6
00
pm.
Is
there
a
motion.

We're
live.
Thank
you
good
evening.
Everyone
welcome
to
this
meeting
of
the
boston
school
committee.
I'm
chairperson,
jerry
robinson.
The
committee
just
returned
from
an
executive
session
for
the
purpose
of
conducting
a
strategy
session
related
to
collective
bargaining
with
the
boston
teachers
union,
as
well
as
preparation
for
negotiations
with
the
non-union
personnel
that
the
superintendent
of
schools
tonight's
session
is
being
shared,
live
on
zoom.
It
will
be
rebroadcast
on
boston
city,
tv
and
posted
on
the
school
committee's
web
page
and
on
youtube.

I
Madam
chair
good
evening,
everyone,
terry
and
I
my
name
is
anna-
will
be
your
cantonese.
A
K
A
Thank
you
all
for
assisting
us
this
evening
and
thank
you
to
all
of
the
bps
staff
behind
the
scenes
who
also
provide
support
for
our
virtual
meetings
to
run
smoothly.
We
will
now
activate
the
interpretation
icon
at
the
bottom
of
your
screen.
I'd
like
to
remind
everyone
to
speak
at
a
slower
pace
to
assist
our
interpreters.
A
Thank
you
to
everyone
who
signed
up
for
public
comment.
Sign
up
for
both
public
comment
periods
close
today
at
4,
30
pm.
Please
make
sure
that
you
are
signed
into
zoom
under
the
same
name.
You
used
to
sign
up
for
public
comment.
You
can
use
the
zoom
tools
to
rename
yourself
so
that
committee
staff
will
be
able
to
recognize
you
when
it
comes
time
to
call
on
you.
Thank
you
for
your
cooperation,
we'll
move
on
to
the
approval
of
minutes.
A
L
A
N
N
A
A
A
She
spent
her
first
several
months,
visiting
every
school
in
a
district,
listening
learning
and
seeing
for
herself
the
incredible
opportunities
and
challenges
boston
faced
in
collaboration
with
students,
educators,
families
and
community
members.
She
developed
a
strategic
plan
with
big
and
bold
ideas
and
set
about
implementing
that
plan.
A
A
A
As
we
continue
assessing
the
impact
of
the
pandemic
on
our
students
and
families.
It
is
clear
that
we
have
a
long
road
to
recovery
ahead,
but
that
journey
is
clearer
because
of
the
roadmap
dr
consulius
has
provided
with
investments
in
over
130
social
workers,
119
family
liaisons
and
an
additional
49
school
psychologists.
A
A
A
A
A
A
A
These
payments
are
consistent
with
what
is
required
pursuant
to
the
terms
of
her
employment
contract
in
state
law.
As
I
stated,
this
is
a
fair
separation
agreement
for
all
parties,
which
provides
dr
caselias
with
what
is
contractually
owed
to
her
under
her
employment
contract
in
state
law
and
is
consistent
with
previous
separation
agreements
with
outgoing
superintendents.
A
B
Yes,
I
just
want
to
thank
both
councils
for
both
parties,
it's
for
engaging
in
this
process
and
I'm
getting
to
a
a
good
deal
on
a
on
on
an
agreement,
and
I
also
just
want
to
also
thank
dr
cassellius
for
her
work
in
laying
such
a
critical
foundation
and
infrastructure
for
the
for
the
future
of
bps
families,
and
that
this
process
will
be
very
instrumental
in
how
we
think
about
the
future,
and
particularly
the
the
reparation
of
trust
in
in
this
body
of
the
school
committee
in
bps,
and
what
this
means
for
really
supporting
families
as
we
move
forward
in
the
new
committee
search.
L
I
want
to
echo
my
colleague,
dr
elkins,
and
and
say
thank
you
to
the
superintendent
for
her
service
and
for
her
vision
and,
of
course,
to
all
of
the
council
that
was
involved
in
in
realizing
this
agreement.
L
In
superintendence
across
our
system-
and
so
I'm
excited
about
the
conversation
we're
going
to
have
later
tonight
around
the
search
committee
and
how
we
build
that
process,
so
it
also
rebuilds
trust
and
I
think,
as
we
vote
on
this
contract
and
allow
you
to
move
forward,
I
also
think
it
will
be
really
important
for
us
to
have
conversations
around
what
this
contract
looks
like
moving
forward.
I
O
Thank
you,
madam
chair.
I
I
echo
my
comments.
My
colleagues
comments
to
date,
first
and
thanks
to
superintendent
casilius
for
the
work
that
she
did
in
the
groundwork
that
she
laid,
and
also
to
the
city
corporate
council
for
his
work
on
this,
and
I
accept
his
recommended
course
of
action.
Thank
you,
madam
chair.
A
Thank
you
right.
I'm
gonna
go
on
move
on
to
the
next
part
of
this
conversation,
which
is.
Oh
sorry,
excuse
me,
mr
tran
go
ahead.
N
N
I'm
pretty
saddened
to
see
her
leave,
given
all
the
works
that
she
had
put
into
the
the
bps
system,
especially
with
the
community
involvement.
Despite
the
fact
that
you
know
there
are
still
distensions
and
other
kind
of
internal
or
external
disagreement
with
a
move.
I
see
it
as
a
plus.
I
see
it
as
a
positive
thing
that
that
she
had
done
for
for
the
bps
there.
N
What
I
can
say
is
that
her
understanding
and
application
of
the
equity
principle
is
aligned
with
me
very
much,
despite
the
fact
that
some
of
those
policies
that
she
initiated
may
have
certain
kind
of
certain
kind
of
adverse
impact
on
my
own
ethnicity
or
my
my
my
own
community,.
N
O
Madam
chair,
I
also
just
want
to
thank
you
for
your
insistence
that
we
have
this
discussion
and
that
you
lay
out
in
a
public
open
meeting
the
provisions
of
the
contract
and
that
we
vote
on
it
as
a
as
a
committee
to
authorize
you
to
do
it.
It
is
what
you
are
trying
to
lead
on
transparency
and
openness,
and
I
thank
you
for
that.
A
A
The
rfp
outlines
the
scope
of
the
work
we
intend
to
complete
as
part
of
this
search,
the
deadline
for
firms
to
respond
is
march
18th
at
12
pm
eastern
standard
time.
It
is
a
tight
turnaround,
but
we've
already
heard
from
a
few
interested
firms,
as
vice
chair
o'neill,
said
at
the
last
meeting,
we're
going
to
generate
a
lot
of
interest,
as
firms
have
likely
seen
the
news.
A
I'm
sorry
let
me
go
back
to
the
top,
I'm
so
sorry,
so
I
obviously
you
didn't
hear
me.
O
The
last
we
heard
is
when
you
were
talking
about
head
of
chief
of
human
resources,
health
talent,.
A
Okay,
great
and
naveen
ready
business
manager
for
bps.
The
rfp
team
will
present
their
analysis
of
the
proposals
received
and
recommended
selections
to
the
full
search
committee
for
its
review.
The
search
committee
will
take
its
recommendation
to
the
will
make
its
recommendations
to
the
school
committee
for
a
final
vote
on
april
6..
O
Excuse
me,
madam
chia,
I'm
sorry
I
didn't
catch
it
if
you
said
it,
but
I
just
want
to
clarify.
We
do
not
yet
know
the
cost,
because
we
would
be
waiting
for
firms
to
submit
bids
correct,
but
the
expectation
is
is
this
would
be
paid
out
of
a
bps
budget
as
opposed
to
in
the
past.
Sometimes
the
committee
has
solicited
donations,
but
I
believe
it
is
your
intention
that
is
paid
for
out
of
a
bps
budget.
O
A
L
All
right,
I'm
back
the
this
question
may
not
be
for
this
moment.
So
just
push
me
to
the
search
committee.
If
that's
where
this
fits,
but
with
the
rfp
committee,
is
there
going
to
be
a
since?
We
have
recently
been
down
this
road.
Will
there
be
a
convening
of
any
of
the
members
from
the
previous
rfp
committee
and
the
new
rfp
committee
to
talk
about
areas
that
were
a
success
or
areas
that
were
sort
of
lessons
learned
after
the
fact.
A
I
think,
once
the
search
committee
has
been
formed,
this
process
will
be
starting
and
I
would
think
that
I
would
leave
that
recommendation
to
them
again.
Nothing
has
taken
place
yet
so,
once
we
have
a
search
committee,
they
will
have
some
time
as
the
rfp
is
out
to
bid,
and
I
would
assume
that
they
may
have
conversations
to
get
that
kind
of
feedback.
I
think
that's
a
great
idea.
Thank
you.
Miss
lapera.
D
Thank
you,
madam
chair.
Just
a
question
around.
You
mentioned
the
that
there
would
be
folks
who
are
engaging
in
the
search
committee,
who
would
then
also
potentially
serve
on
the
review
of
the
rfps.
Is?
Am
I
understanding
that
correctly
or
are
there
other
folks
who
would
engage
in
in
that
rfp
review
outside
of
the
search
committee?.
A
No,
the
the
rfp
evaluation
team
will
include
one
to
two
members
of
the
search
committee
as
well
as
al
taylor,
bps
chief
of
human
capital
officer
and
naveen
reddy
business
manager
for
bps.
So
basically
it
will
be
a
group
of
four
and
again.
I
would
think
that
taking
mr
cut
out
hernandez
a
suggestion
that
they
made
particularly
you
know.
A
L
And
this
may
I
think
this
is
figured
out
in
the
rfp
process,
and
I
think
this
is
what
mr
o'neill
was
asking,
but
I
just
want
to
confirm:
there
is
no
budget
set
for
this.
Is
there
a
ceiling
that
we
will
cap
at
or
are
we
just
seeing
what
comes
in
and
then
the
rfpt
makes
a
decision,
analyzing
cost
as
well
as.
A
A
O
Mr
o'neill,
if
I
may
just
add
some
context
to
that,
if
it's
okay,
madam
cheers,
there
tend
to
be
two
types
of
search
firms
that
work
on
superintendent
searches.
The
first
is
ones
that
specialize
just
on
k-12
district
superintendent
searches.
There
are
about
a
dozen
them
across
the
country.
They
tend
to
work,
propose
more
back
on
rfps
in
a
fixed
price
cost
fixed
price
approach
of
we
did
x,
plus
expenses.
O
The
other
type
of
search
firms
are
those
that
tend
to
work
more
on.
They
do
some
select
superintendent
searches,
but
they
also
work
on
college
presidencies,
ceos
of
non-profits.
They
tend
to
be
mission,
driven
organ,
you
focus
on
mission-driven
organizations,
they
tend
to
work
more
on
a
percent
of
salary,
and
so
it
varies,
and
so
they
may
bid
x
percent
of
salary
or
x
minus
two
percent
of
salary.
That
type
of
thing.
O
So
I'm
being
very
careful
in
my
answer,
because
the
rules
around
procurement
are
incredibly
tough,
which
is
why
it
makes
sense
that
the
chair
included
two
specialists
from
bps.
That
really
know
rfp
rules
to
make
sure
that
it's
done
properly,
but
we
would.
We
would
expect
to
see,
depending
upon
the
type
of
firm
that
replies
either
they
would
propose
a
fixed
price
cost
or
they
would
propose
a
center,
a
percent
of
salary
approach
and
then,
typically,
it
is
plus
expenses.
O
You
know
for
candidates
to
travel
into
the
city,
that
type
of
thing,
background,
work,
etc,
and
the
last
point
I
will
make-
and
you
know
a
lot
of
people
recognize
this-
that
right
now
there
are
a
lot
of
openings
across
the
country
and
not
only
for
superintendents.
B
Just
for
the
the
sake
of
understanding
transparency,
particularly
for
families,
on
what
aspects
of
this
process
and
thereafter
are
basically
available
to
public
for
them
to
to
really
follow
along,
so
that
they
can
understand
the
process
as
well.
A
So
a
couple
of
things
we
will
have:
we
have
a
website,
it's
already
up
on
the
school
committee
site
and
then
there
will
be-
and
I
think
there
also
will
be
outlined-
the
complete
timeline
for
the
search
and
what
will
be
going
on
at
various
aspects
of
the
search
starting
out
with
the
listening
sessions
and
then
at
every
single
school
committee
meeting
there
will
be
an
update.
A
You
know
there
are
parts
of
the
search
that
will
obviously
need
to
be
done
in
executive
session.
That
is
when
the
committee
will
be
doing
the
interviewing
of
candidates
and
then,
at
the
end
of
that,
when
they
have
their
recommendations,
it
becomes
public
again
where
the
finalists
will
be
interviewed
by
the
public.
You
know
within
the
public
realm.
Usually
there
are
some.
A
You
know
there
are
groups
that
will
do
the
interviewing,
but
everyone
is
able
to
weigh
in
watch
comment,
etc,
but
so
it
will
be
clearly
outlined
on
the
school
committee's
web
page
of
how
this
goes
on
and
there'll
be
a
place
there.
Where
people
have
specific
questions
that
they
can
send
in
their
questions
and
then
to
the
committee,
they
will
get
they'll
get
answered.
A
I'm
going
to
turn
to
mr
o'neill.
Again,
who's
been
part
of
past
searches.
If
there
are
other
things
that
we
should
make
make
sure
people
are
aware
of.
O
Dr
elkins
is
critical,
particularly
in
the
upfront
piece,
because
ultimately,
this
committee
and
the
search
committee
will
be
voting
on
a
recommended
job
description
and
getting
input
from
our
communities
is
critical
in
that
process.
To
make
sure
we
are
collectively
headed
in
the
right
way
and
attracting
the
right
type
of
candidate
and
and
laying
out
a
roadmap
for
candidates
of
what
we
expect.
So
I
think
a
a
robust
listening
process
up
front
to
allow
us
to
develop
that
job
description
and
write
on
it
and
then
obviously
a
search
always
has
to
enter
a
quiet
phrase.
O
But
then,
at
the
end,
having
robust
public
involvement
as
well
is
critical
to
build
acceptance
for
whomever
we
ultimately
decide
is
the
appropriate
superintendent
to
lead
us
forward.
A
We
pretty
much
have
a
draft
to
that
again.
Remember
this.
The
the
search
committee
has
not
had
a
chance
to
even
meet
yet
or
meet
each
other
yet,
and
so
they
will
be
confirming
that
very
very
soon
into
their
tenure.
You
know
we're
sort
of
mapping
it
back
from
a
decision,
hopefully
in
may
june,
and
mapping
the
process
back.
So
we
are,
you
know,
shortening
some
things
that
would
have
taken
in
the
past.
We
might
have
given,
for
example,
two
months
for
people
to
get
their
resumes
in
this
time.
A
A
A
We
have
both
boston,
bps
parents
and
representation,
particularly
of
sped
pack
and
ells,
etc.
Roxy
harvey
is
a
bps
parent.
She
also
is
the
head
of
sped
pack
and
she
currently
now
is
serving
as
one
of
the
members
of
the
ell
task
force.
Usually
we
have
three
members
of
the
school
committee
given
the
shortness
of
this
and
then
wanting
to
have
a
smaller
number
of
folks.
A
We
have
two
school
committee
members
and
we
have
lorena
lucero,
who
also
is
a
parent
and
and
michael
o'neill,
who
is
both
a
business
person
and
a
member
of
the
school
committee
and
is
quite
knowledgeable
overall
about
searches
and
the
landscape.
All
of
those
things
we
have
a
student,
marcus,
mcneill
he's
a
student
at
fenway
high
school.
We
had
a
student
that
served
well
in
the
last
search,
and
so
that
was
something
we
wanted
to
make
sure
we
were
able
to
have
again.
A
We
have
two
school
leaders,
dr
colleen
pignato,
head
of
school,
the
channing
elementary
school,
and
she
is
also
of
the
member
of
the
oag
task
force.
And
then
we
have
jean
roundtree,
who
is
a
secondary
school
superintendent
in
former
head
of
school
at
south
boston
high
school,
and
then
we
have
jessica
tang,
the
head
of
the
teachers
union.
That
is
a
requirement
of
the
the
search
firm
and
then
we
have
a
teacher,
jose
valenzuela
teacher
at
boston,
latin
academy.
A
P
A
Okay,
I'm
gonna
move
on
to
our
last
portion
of
this,
which
is
community
engagement
and
right
now
the
search
committee
will
host
three
public
meetings
in
march
and
one
in
early
april,
and
the
dates
and
times
of
these
public
meetings
will
be
wednesday
march
9th,
which
is
right
next
week
from
6
to
8
p.m,
tuesday
march
15,
6
to
8
p.m,
thursday
march
24th,
6
6
to
8
pm
and
saturday
april,
2nd
from
10
to
12
p.m.
A
A
Members
of
the
public
can
sign
up
by
rsdp'ing
on
our
new
website:
boston,
dot,
glove,
slash,
bps
search.
Additionally,
members
of
the
public
can
submit
written
testimony
via
email
to
the
school
committee
at
the
email
address,
superintendent
search.
One
word
at
bostonpublicschools.org,
we'll
be
partnering
with
the
search
committee
to
provide
alternative
ways
of
gathering
feedback
from
stakeholders,
including,
but
not
limited,
to
written
testimony
online
surveys
which
will
be
translated
again
into
all
of
the
major
languages.
A
I
know
this
is
a
lot
of
information
to
digest.
We
have
a
lot
of
work
ahead
of
us
in
a
type
frame.
You
know
timeline
but,
as
I
said
at
our
last
meeting,
our
kids
can't
wait.
I'm
confident
that
together
we
can
move
this
process
forward
in
a
thoughtful
and
collaborative
way.
I'll
now
open
it
up
to
the
committee
for
questions
and
comments.
A
Any
questions
about
the
engagement.
D
Thank
you,
madam
chair.
I
appreciate
the
thinking
around
having
official
modes
of
engagement
for
the
community,
I'm
wondering
if
there's
any
thinking
on
engaging
the
many
community
partners
that
we
have
in
doing
other
ways
of
having
outreach
to
hear
from
broader
folks
in
the
community.
I
imagine
this
is
something
that
we've
done
in
the
past.
Yes,
so
I
was
just
wondering
how
that
fits
into
the
whole
search
process.
A
Again,
I
think,
as
the
search
committee
comes
together,
we
wanted
to
put
on
the
table
these
four.
You
know
firm
ones,
but
you
know:
we've
received
emails
from
a
number
of
community
organizations
that
want
to
be
able
to
co-host
a
meeting
with
us,
etc
and
again,
not
wanting
to
get
out
ahead
of
the
search
committee
to
figure
out
scheduling
of
what
people
can
you
know
how
many
different
opportunities
we
can
you
know
take
advantage
of,
I'm
sure
there'll
be
other
groups
meetings
as
well.
A
I
you
know
spoke
with
miss
polanco
garcia
yesterday
and
one
of
the
things
we
talked
about
was
hosting
a
a
meeting.
That's
predominantly
in
spanish,
as
you
know,
as
a
first
language
versus
it
being
interpreted
so
they'll
have
english
interpretation
as
a
way
of
reaching
out
to
other
communities,
and
you
know
other
communities
may
also
express
an
interest
in
holding.
You
know
a
specific
meeting
with
a
particular
group
of
people,
so
we
can
make
sure
that
all
for
all
voices
are
being
heard.
A
So
we
will
look
at
the
amount
of
time
again.
You
know
it's
short,
because
we
want
this
feedback
to
be
able
to
help
us
inform
changes
to
the
job
description.
So
again
every
you
know,
so
we
have
approximately
about
a
month
to
do
all
that.
So
once
the
this
the
search
committee
meets
and
confirms
their
schedule.
A
Then
we
can
look
at
you
know
between
now
and
the
first
week
in
april
how
many
different
opportunities
for
public
comment
sessions
etc
can
be
handled,
but
if
even
if
they're-
not
quote
official,
but
they
are
also
held
making
sure
that
any
information
that
is
created
in
those
meetings
gets
fed
into
the
larger
process.
So
all
voices
can
be
heard
at
that
point.
D
Thank
you
for
that,
madam
chair.
I
appreciate
the
thinking
around
expanding
the
community
engagement
as
much
as
possible,
and
that
truly
is
our
charge
right
to
make
sure.
Q
D
Are
bringing
folks
into
the
process
as
much
as
we
can
it.
B
D
It
is
ultimately
the
the
vote
of
the
school
committee,
but
we
are
representing
our
fellow
community
members,
so
appreciate
the
thinking
on
that.
I
love
the
idea
of
having
an
a
mostly
or
a
first
spanish
language
and
I'm
sure
that
we
can
also
engage
with
other
communities
just
like
that.
So
thank
you
for
that
thinking.
Thank
you.
L
I'm
just
echoing
miss
lopera
and
the
thinking
around
increased
engagement,
particularly
not
through
translation,
but
in
native
language
dialogue.
I
would
just
also
encourage
us
as
we're
thinking
about
that,
to
also
do
sessions
that
are
centered
around
students,
voices
as
well.
A
L
Awesome
yeah,
and
so
I
know
the
committee
will,
when
they
convene
we'll
figure
out
how
to
expand
the
opportunities.
But
I
just
want
to
make
sure
while
we
are
under
what
feels
like
a
really
sort
of
shortened
time
frame
that
it
then
doesn't
feel
like.
The
thing
that
also
shrinks
is
the
dialogue
that
the
community
gets
to
have
with
us.
And
so
I
just
think
it's
important
for
us
to
sort
of
norm
and
name
that
as
a
committee
that,
like
we're
committed
to
having
a
new
superintendent
in
the
timeline.
R
A
People
yeah
we're
not
I'm
not
going
to
talk
about
it
tonight,
but
we've
done
some
analysis
over
the
last
several
superintendent
searches,
the
amount
of
public
inter
you
know,
comment
that
we
had
etc.
This
is
the
first
time
that
it's
being
done
over
zoom
in
my
assumption
will
be.
It
will
provide
more
opportunity
for
public
comment.
A
I
hate
to
say
it,
but
that
there
have
been
times
when
there
were
more
people
from
the
search
committee
that
had
dragged
out
through
an
event
than
the
number
of
people
that
signed
up
for
public
comment
or
showed
up
for
public
comments.
So
I
am
hoping
that
people
will
take
advantage
of
these
opportunities
and
you
know
come
on
and
speak
to
us.
Thank
you,
mr
o'neill.
O
Of
course,
thank
you,
madam
cherry,
and
I
just
want
to
echo
the
comments
and
I'm
really
glad
we're
having
this
conversation
and
regards
to
make
up
the
committee.
You
know
it.
It
doesn't
go
unnoted
by
me
that
you
know
you
named
three
co-chairs
an
educator,
a
parent
and
a
student,
and
those
are
all
vitally
important
voices
that
we
want
to
hear-
and
I
do
you
know
just
want
to
share
that.
I
I
know
the
mayor
encouraged.
O
O
So
not
only
community
listening
sessions,
but
can
we
co-sponsor
them
with
some
organizations,
as
you
talked
about,
there's
also
very
encourage
and
share
with
the
rest
of
the
committee
that
the
chair-
and
I
spoke
yesterday
with
council
and
mejia,
who
is
the
chair
of
the
education
committee
on
the
city
council,
and
she
also
encouraged
that
we
hold
listening
sessions
in
native
languages
other
than
english
and
offered
her
office
as
a
resource
to
both
our
co-sponsor
some
listening
sessions
and
to
help
make
that
happen.
So
I
really
appreciate
the
input
that
she
gave.
That
appears.
O
Many
of
us
are
echoing
as
well.
So
I
think
this
is
really
helpful
for
us
to
think
differently
and
out
of
the
box
about
how
we
can
do
things
a
little
bit
differently.
This
time.
A
Right
and
I
I
want
to
make
sure
that
the
members
understand
that,
even
if
you're
not
on
the
official
search
committee,
that
members
are
encouraged
to
attend
as
many
as
the
listening
sessions
as
they
possibly
can
as
well,
so
that
we
are
all
hearing
what
our
public
is
asking
us.
B
So
maybe
this
is,
I
think,
like
echoing,
like
ms
lopez,
on
my
comments
working
with
local
community
based
organizations
as
well
to
maybe
host
their
own
sessions
as
well.
We
have
several
that
always
are
are
very
consistent
in
public
testimony.
B
A
Yes
often
what
has
happened
is
even
though
we
have
named
the
dates
of
four
sections.
We
often
look
to
to
co-sponsor
those
with
some
of
those
very
organizations
that
you
are
talking
about,
but
again,
as
I
said,
not
wanting
to
get
out
too
far
ahead
of
the
search
committee,
we're
just
trying
to
lay
out
the
bones
and
give
them
the
the
opportunity
to
work
those
things
out
as
they
move
forward.
A
Okay,
so
before
we
move
on
to
public
comment,
I
just
want
to
make
sure.
Are
there
any
more
comments
from
the
committee.
A
Okay,
so
so,
lastly,
I'm
gonna,
if
there
are
no
further
questions,
I'll,
entertain.
A
motion
to
authorize
me
as
school
committee
chair
to
sign
the
separation
agreement
between
the
boston
school
committee
and
superintendent,
brenda
casellius.
O
O
A

In
2019
5
million
dollars,
supposedly
we're
going
to
be
funded
for
the
repair
of
doors
and
walls,
and
as
of
yet
nothing
has
been
done.
It
worries
me
this
apparent
that
if
something
happens
in
the
school,
how
are
you
gonna
respond,
since
some
of
these
walls
are
basically
become
as
thin
as.
T
Okay,
how
could
this
continue
like
this?
This
has
to
be
a
priority
for
the
safety
of
our
children
and
our
community.
Okay,.
T
C
U
U
While
this
dangerous
airborne
virus
circulates
also
bps
students,
unlike
those
in
suburbs,
are
more
likely
to
live
in
multi-generational
households,
including
elders
and
medically
fragile
relatives,
and
the
new
variant
ba2
30,
more
transmissible
than
the
original
omicron
is
doubling
every
week
in
the
us
last
week.
It
represented
four
percent
of
cases.
Now
it's
eight
percent.
U
U
U
We
understand
air
conditioning
units
have
been
purchased
for
classrooms
to
address
serious
summer
heat
issues.
Recently
we
heard
that
these
may
in
fact
be
heat
pumps.
Heat
pumps
are
good
for
cooling
and
energy
efficiency.
They
are
not
good
regarding
an
airborne
virus
as
they
do
not
bring
in
essential
fresh
air,
but
use
only
recirculated.
U
C
Thank
you
friendly
reminder
to
please
slow
your
pace
for
our
interpreters.
Thank
you
now.
Our
next
speaker
is
robert
jenkins,.
V
Hello
good
evening,
my
name
is
robert
jenkins:
I'm
a
member
of
the
school
site
council
for
madison
park,
member
of
the
community
engagement
advisory
council
for
the
district,
among
other
things.
What
I
am
speaking
about
tonight
is
a
number
of
issues
or
not
issues,
but
I
recently
sat
on
the
community
equity
roundtable
last
week
in
which
athletic
director
avery
esdale
put
a
proposal
up
to
change
the
gpa
citywide
from
1.67
to
2.0.
V
This
is
you
know
insane.
You
know,
that's
one
thing
that
I
have
to
bring
out
there.
Also
too.
I
would
like
to
speak
about
the
incident
involving
the
fenway
basketball
men's
and
women's
teams.
These
kids
worked
very
hard
to
get
into
the
tournament
and
they
did
not
go
because
of
a
minor.
I
mean
a
a
big
violation.
V
That's
just
a
shame.
You
know
our
kids
work
very
hard
to
you
know,
maintain
a
2.0
or
better
to
participate
in
athletics
and
especially
getting
ready
to
go
to
the
state
tournament
and
be
told
that
they
can't
go
as
well
as
two
other
schools
that
are
not
in
the
district.
This
cannot
go
on.
We
need
to
really
make
sure
we
need
to
improve
our
athletic
programs
as
as
well.
V
You
know
when
you're
talking
about
social
and
emotional
learning,
you're
talking
about
school
spirit,
you're
talking
about
camaraderie,
you
know
those
poor,
kids,
one
more
thing.
If
I
have
time
to
do,
I
was
on
one
of
the
hiring
committees
for
dr
cassellius,
and
I
would
encourage
the
school
committee
to
make
sure
that
you
have
parent
engagement
parents
right
now.
I
I
go
to
a
lot
of
meetings.
Parents
right
now
want
to
become
involved.
They
have
a
lot
of
questions.
V
You
should
do
as
many
as
you
can,
because
as
one
of
the
as
a
number
of
the
school
committee
members
have
said,
we
have
to
broaden
our
base.
We
tend
to
use,
you
know,
bsac
cpc,
d-lab
spread
back,
but
there
are
other
parents
that
are
not
involved
in
any
any
of
those
councils
like
what
the
community
involvement
and
engagement
again
for
the
new
superintendent.
W
Good
evening
my
name
is
sharon
hinson,
I'm
a
mother
educator,
homeowner
advocate
and
the
president
and
executive
director
of
black
teachers
matter
incorporated,
I
say
homeowner
because
it's
my
taxes
that
are
paying
you
guys
my
taxes.
The
way
prop
2
is
structured,
pays
for
the
superintendent
for
the
mayor
for
the
school
committee,
and
I
don't
gamble.
W
I
don't
go
to
casinos,
because
if
I
don't
hit-
and
somebody
hits
next
to
me-
I
figure
they
won
my
money,
and
so
I
I
don't
do
that,
but
I
feel
like
we
took
a
gamble
and
we've
taken
a
gamble
on
seven
different
superintendents
who
come
in
they're
qualified.
We
do
the
search
committees
and
I
remember
I
was
in
a
community
meeting
when
dr
xelia
said
that
she
was
going
to
be
here
for
the
long
haul,
and
I
said
I
love
your
ideas.
I
hope
you
get
a
chance
to
implement
them
and
she
said
well.
W
I
signed
a
contract
for
10
years
and
I
said
so
did
the
other
two
and
they're
not
here,
and
this
is
why
you're
here
now
she's
leaving,
and
I
really
really
know
that
she
tried
and
I
love
her
as
a
person,
but
I'm
separating
what
I
love
in
terms
of
a
person
versus
the
job.
So
last
night
I
talked
about
the
ps
tonight,
I'm
talking
about
peas
process.
W
If
we
don't
change
the
process
of
how
we're
doing
this,
and
if
this
process
is
not
flexible
enough
in
terms
of
the
time
frame,
we're
going
to
end
up
with
the
same
thing,
I
don't
know
if
in
this
process
of
the
last
15
years
and
all
of
these
revolving
doors
of
superintendents,
if
we
know
why
they're
leaving
is
it
just
another
p
politics,
and
so
I
want
cassellius's
brenda's
lawyer.
I
want
brenda's
lawyer
that
negotiated
how
she's
getting
paid
with
my
money
to
leave
and
the
job
is
not
done.
W
It's
almost
like
you
have
a
baby,
premature
and
now
you're
waiting
for
someone
else
to
raise
it,
and
so,
but
we're
here
and
we're
still
stuck
here.
So
I
I
love
the
fact
that
you
guys
are
having
community
engagements
or
open
meetings.
I
can't
see
the
clock.
Oh
there,
it
is
okay.
I
also
love
the
fact
that
you're
trying
to
give
it
in
native
languages,
because
I
speak
several
different
languages
and
words-
don't
translate
all
the
time.
W
So
I
really
appreciate
that
and
the
fact
that
there
are
people
in
the
committee
that
are
committed
to
the
schools
to
the
parents.
You
guys
are
in
the
school.
Some
of
you
guys
have
kids
in
the
schools,
my
daughter
graduated
from
boston,
public
schools.
I
attended
boston,
public
schools
and
and
she's
about
to
graduate
her
master's
degree
from
northeast
university.
W
So
I
understand
what
it
means
to
actually
stay
in
there
and
I've
been
a
member
and
parent
on
the
parent
side,
council,
the
school
site
council
been
involved
in
search
committees
that
whole
thing,
but
I
also
know
as
a
person
that
went
through
the
process
to
try
to
be
there
with
you
on
the
school
committee.
What
happens
when
the
process
is
not
open
and
I
get
it
with?
You
know
negotiations
and
how
you
need
to
keep
certain
things
quiet
and
you
need
to
keep
certain
things
within
human
resources.
W
But
if
you
don't
open
up
this
process,
then
it's
still
going
to
be
a
lack
of
trust
involved.
I've
got
for
13
seconds,
thank
you,
so
why
is
she
leaving?
She
said
she
wasn't
pushed
out.
The
man
said
she
didn't
force
her
out.
I
think
we
need
to
know
why
she
left
that's
my
money
that
you're
taking
out
of
that
door,
and
normally
I
wouldn't
care,
but
it
is
my
money.
It
is
my
kids,
I'm
a
teacher,
and
I
want
to
make
sure
that
we
are
invested
and
please
whatever
it
takes.
W
C
X
The
most
important
use
would
be
to
measure
carbon
dioxide
to
make
sure
there's
enough
outside
air
ventilation
to
improve
air
quality
and
decrease
transmission
of
covet.
But
there
have
been
a
number
of
problems.
First,
the
monitors
have
not
been
calibrated.
This
must
be
done
to
make
sure
they're
accurate
outside
air
has
400
parts
per
million.
X
X
X
This
doesn't
help
us
launch
a
response.
Third,
the
abnormal
results
haven't
been
used
to
fix
problems.
Three-Quarters
of
the
schools,
don't
have
ventilation
systems.
I
went
online
today
and
I
saw
that
the
curly
higginson
hernandez,
kenny,
channing
young
achievers
all
had
readings
of
1500
to
3000
parts
per
million
of
carbon
dioxide
in
some
classrooms.
X
X
X
How
can
we
trust
that
10
million
dollars
more
committed
to
ventilation
in
fiscal
year
23
will
be
used
in
a
way
that
truly
improves
conditions
so
like
the
search
for
a
superintendent,
trust,
transparency
and
openness
is
an
important
part
of
improving
the
ventilation
in
boston
public
schools.
Thank
you.
C
Y
Y
I
can't
ask
I
can't
speak
to
what
happened
at
the
school
from
2014
to
2019.
My
family's
only
been
there
three
years.
What
I
can
tell
you
is
that
in
my
time
we
have
had
a
governance
board,
that's
prepared
to
uphold
its
responsibilities,
to
our
community,
to
ensure
accountability
of
the
school's
leadership
and
to
collaborate
with
the
district.
Y
If
you
look
at
it
and
compare
the
2019
to
2021
mcas
data
in
the
reports
you'll
see
that
at
most
schools,
as
well
as
the
district
as
a
whole,
they
saw
passing
rates
plummet
in
all
three
subject:
areas
at
mission
hill
in
the
same
period,
passing
rates
in
math
were
flat
and
we
showed
significant
improvement
in
both
ela
and
science.
Our
teachers
in
a
pandemic,
largely
unzoom
at
a
school
with
a
high
percentage
of
students
with
high
needs,
were
successful
at
helping
students
improve
passing
rates.
Y
That
is
remarkable,
notably
this
time
period
of
improvement
coincides
with
the
entire
10
year
of
our
now
removed
school
leaders.
I
hope
we
see
further
increases
this
year,
but
given
the
amount
of
trauma
and
appeal
imposed
upon
the
school
this
year,
I'm
not
especially
optimistic
an
emergency
school
review
was
hastily
conducted
in
november.
The
district
received
the
report
in
very
early
january.
Y
No
information
or
recommendations
from
it
have
been
shared.
Yet
I've
previously
expressed
my
doubts
about
the
impartiality
of
the
review,
and
I
continue
to
believe
that
it
was
conducted
with
foregone
conclusions,
but
regardless
of
what
it
says
by
failing
to
release
the
report,
the
district
is
letting
families
down.
Families
have
been
forced
to
make
lottery
decisions
without
knowing
what
changes
the
district
has
in
store.
I
have
deep
concerns
for
what
this
will
do
to
our
enrollment
numbers
next
year.
The
uncertainty
about
the
school's
future
is
also
undermining
our
staff.
Y
Teaching
is
hard
enough
without
having
to
worry
if
your
school
will
even
exist
next
year
or
will
be
changed
in
ways
that
make
it
unrecognizable
the
district's.
Failure
to
share
information
is
also
directly
undermining
the
governance
board.
It's
the
governance
board's
responsibility
to
see
the
challenges
in
the
school
are
addressed.
We
can't
do
that
when
the
district
withholds
information.
Y
Finally,
the
governance
board
is
responsible
for
recommending
a
new
school
leader
to
the
superintendent
for
her
approval.
We
are
in
dire
need
of
an
incredible
devoted,
talented
caring
leader.
The
board
met
last
night
to
define
our
own
selection
committee
process
for
identifying
a
new
leader
to
recommend.
We,
like
you,
are
striving
to
ensure
a
diverse
group
of
students,
families,
staff
and
community
partners
are
involved.
Y
We
have
a
great
plan
to
engage
our
community,
but
how
can
we
possibly
be
expected
to
attract
amazing
candidates
when
we
can't
answer
the
basic
question
of
what
the
district
has
in
store
for
the
school
next
year?
I
ask
for
your
support
in
ensuring
that
this
school
has
a
future.
Please
instruct
the
district
to
allow
mission
hill
to
retain
its
pilot
status,
make
its
recommendations
and
let
the
school
move
forward.
Our
current
and
future
students
and
families
deserve
it.
Thank
you
very
much.
Z
Director
of
the
boston
education,
justice
alliance,
the
most
recent
announcement
of
the
resignation
of
superintendent,
dr
coselius,
highlights
a
flawed
leadership
selection
pattern
because
of
the
heavy-handed
mayoral
role
in
the
boston,
public
schools
and
a
compliant
school
committee.
According
to
the
globe,
mayor
wu
has
said
she
wants
to
find
a
permanent
replacement
by
june
and
that
she
wants
a
person
familiar
with
boston,
feeding
concerns
about
whether
the
decision
has
already
been
made.
This
school
committee
is
responsible
for
hiring
and
evaluating
a
superintendent.
Z
We
know
that
mayor
wu
has
been
heavy-handed
in
the
decisions
already
made.
However,
this
school
committee
needs
to
find
someone
with
a
proven
track
record
of
accomplishment
in
areas
of
student
need,
like
academics,
special
education
and
community
engagement
focused
on
families
and
school
communities.
We
need
a
superintendent
who
has
shown
that
they
have
been
able
to
make
a
school
district,
be
about
learning
the
backdoor
politics
of
mayoral
influence
and
superintendent
searches
has
produced
the
same
broken
results
when
what
we
need
is
a
systems
thinking
superintendent
with
a
proven
track
record.
Z
Please
do
not
replicate
the
history
of
flawed
searches,
a
formula
of
mayoral
selected
finalists
with
an
obedient
search
committee
of
corporate
and
foundation
interests
rather
than
school
communities.
In
the
search
process
for
casellius,
the
selection
committee
created
a
job
description
explicitly
requiring
at
least
five
years
of
superintendent
experience.
Z
None
of
the
candidates
met
the
qualifications
outlined
in
the
job
description
created
by
the
school
committee
led
search
committee.
Beijing's
work
has
been
in
pushing
a
baseline
budget
of
basic
services
that
each
school
and
student
should
have
superintendent
conselius
began
calling
this
a
quality
guarantee.
We
want
a
school
leader
who
has
addressed
school
budget
inequities
does
not
want
to
reverse
the
current
exam
school
policy
and
will
work
to
develop
a
master's
facilities
plan
that
focuses
on
making
schools
better
rather
than
closing
them.
Z
More
importantly,
we
want
someone
with
a
proven
track
record
of
success
when
it
comes
to
students
with
disabilities,
english
learners
and
low-income
students
of
color.
A
recent
nbc
story
highlighted
the
blackstone
elementary,
which
was
promised
five
million
dollars
to
put
up
walls
and
doors
by
former
interim
superintendent
laura
parrell.
Z
The
search
process
should
be
led
by
school
communities
who
have
been
threatened
and
damaged
by
the
decisions
and
policies
administered
by
boston's,
mayor
superintendent
and
school
committee.
If
you
want
to
be
accountable
and
build
trust,
don't
settle,
select
a
search
committee
made
up
of
parents,
students
and
educators,
who
experience
whose
experience
and
focus
is
equity.
Thank
you.
C
AA
AA
I
object
to
the
process
which
was
just
to
strive
for
the
selection
of
our
next
superintendent.
As
a
citizen
and
education
activist,
I
have
participated
in
prior
searches.
Never
before
have
I
witnessed
the
accelerator
being
floored.
This
is
a
rush
to
judgment.
I
also
want
to
respectfully
request
that
edith
brazil
be
added
to
the
search
committee.
That
would
help
in
terms
of
my
trust,
the
budget.
There
are
many
schools
that
need
your
assistance
and
it
is
difficult
for
me
to
single
out
only
two.
Please
take
care
of
the
shah
and
the
blackstone.
AA
AA
AA
I
have
attended
two
btu
meetings
and
they
have
reported
back
their
lack
of
progress
with
the
school
department.
Their
common
good
contract
proposals
would
rapidly
move
us
in
the
direction
of
mayor
wu's
vision.
For
years
we
have
been
promised
build
pps.
Instead,
too
many
of
our
children
have
been
shuffled
around
too
many
schools
have
been
closed.
AA
AA
Insufficient
funds,
how
many
school
psychologists,
guidance,
counselors
and
social
workers
would
be
hired
insufficient
funds
each
school
needs
at
least
one
family
liaison
insufficient
funds.
We
need
smaller
class
sizes,
insufficient
funds.
We
need
more
funds
for
ethics
studies,
insufficient
funds,
how
many
community
hub
schools
with
each
one
with
the
coordinator
with
this
budget,
create
insufficient
funds.
AA
AB
I'm
sorry,
can
you
hear
me?
Yes,
we
can
okay,
let's
start
the
video.
Let
me
see
so
you
can
see
me
is
that
okay,
thank
you.
Sorry.
I
took
a
minute
all
right.
Thank
you
for
your
patience.
AB
I
am
here
tonight
to
ask
you
for
your
commitment
to
keep
bda
bdea
2.0
at
the
timothy
building.
That's
where
we're
at
now,
our
young
men
need
a
modern
school
building
that
is
clean,
safe
with
updated
hvac
systems,
working
fans
and
ac.
This
building
should
have
an
updated
cafeteria
auditorium,
usable,
green
space
and
a
library.
AB
AB
I
have
experience
working
in
a
school
with
a
well-versed,
librarian
and
a
fully
functioning
library.
It
is
magical
how
much
of
a
difference
this
can
make
for
the
lives
of
the
students
and
for
the
culture
of
the
school
right.
Now
we
have
deer
time
drop.
Everything
and
read
bookshelves
with
books
and
book
displays
around
our
school,
but
these
initiatives
are
not
getting
us
the
results
we
have
to
have
for
our
students.
AB
Q
Good
evening,
good
evening
to
the
committee,
I'm
norma
suarez,
I'm
a
parent
and
also
a
board
member
for
boston
day,
and
it
needs
academy.
You
already
heard
about
the
2.0
that
was
created
for
black
and
latinos.
Q
We
cannot
continue
identify
what
our
what
we
recognize
at
the
groups
with
more
more
vulnerable.
We
cannot
continue
to
identify
what
they
need,
but
we
need
to
provide
what
they
need.
It
is
time
to
provide
all
the
resources
to
drive,
feel
respected,
integrated
and
valued.
This
includes
good
food,
healthy
environment,
nurses,
security,
etc.
Q
What
they
don't
need
is
to
be
displaced.
The
t
multi
building
is
a
great
good
start
for
our
student
of
2.0.
As
a
parent,
I
can
give
you
a
testimony
of
the
importance
of
an
alternative
school
when
I
have
to
let
my
son
go
from
puerto
rico.
After
hurricane
maria,
given
to
the
fact
of
these
alternative
schools
like
bda,
my
son
was
able
to
successfully
graduate
last
year
because
he
was
understood
in
all
his
areas
in
the
holistic
way.
Q
Our
vision
is
a
state
of
the
arts
building
in
nubian
square,
be
the
premier
alternative
education,
competency
based
high
school
in
the
city,
bda
students
from
the
present
past
and
future
deserve
this,
and
we
need
to
respond
to
them.
Please
answer
to
our
students.
Thank
you
and
good
evening.
Norma
suarez.
C
P
P
Okay,
so
becoming
a
teacher
was
such
an
easy
decision,
because
I
love
the
students
and
because
I
love
my
own
children,
what
better
profession
than
one
where
I
could
offer
my
kids,
my
kids
to
school,
a
community
of
support
I
always
wanted,
while
in
bps,
while
also
having
a
schedule
similar
to
my
own
children's.
So
I
could
continue
to
be
a
mom.
P
My
first
and
only
teaching
job
has
been
at
an
in-district
charter
up
academy,
boston,
where
my
day
technically
starts
at
7
15,
but
we
have
to
make
sure
that
we're
reading
our
emails
by
6
30
in
the
morning
and
our
date
ends
at
4,
15,
nine
hours
every
day,
45
hours
every
week.
P
Yet
when
I
look
at
my
pay
stub,
we
are
only
paid
for
35
hours
a
week,
10
hours
a
week
that
I
can't
spend
with
my
kids
10
hours
a
week
that
I
have
to
pay
for
child
care
10
hours
a
week
that
I
can't
work
a
second
job
to
afford
child
care
10
hours
a
week
where
educators
feel
worthless
10
hours
a
week
where
I
feel
like.
I
am
not
valued
as
an
educator.
P
10
hours
a
week,
but
I
feel
exploited
I'm
here
to
advocate
for
non-traditional
schools
like
my
own,
moving
to
a
schedule,
a
pay
scale,
the
same
pay
scale
that
extended
learning
day.
Schools
have
moving
non-traditional
schools
to
a
schedule.
A
pay
scale
won't
solve
every
issue,
but
it
will
make
educators
feel
a
bit
more
valued.
It
will
increase
retention
at
non-traditional
schools
and
it
will
yield
better
results
both
for
educators,
students
and
families.
F
Good
evening
school
committee,
my
name
is
sean
barrett,
I
reside
in
south
boston
and
I'm
a
bps
parent.
I
would
like
to
discuss
the
district's
report
card
with
the
department
of
education
in
english,
math
and
science.
There
were
dramatic
decreases
in
those
meeting
and
exceeding
expectations
in
increases
in
those
partially
meeting
and
not
meeting
expectations
for
the
mcas
tests,
focusing
on
just
grades.
F
F
F
He
enacted
this
policy
in
his
first
hundred
days
in
a
wbur
segment
aired
in
2016,
then
superintendent
chang
stated,
the
efa
curriculum
was
going
to
be
offered
in
13
schools,
the
district
plan
to
expand
the
program
to
all
schools
in
the
next
three
to
five
years.
The
final
goal
is
to
provide
advanced
rigor
for
all
elementary
school
students,
excellency
for
all
was
supposed
to
close
the
achievement
gap
for
the
2022-23
upcoming
school
year.
It
looks
like
the
efa
program
will
be
expanded
to
15
schools.
F
Bps
will
have
no
new
students
added
to
awc
advanced
work
classes
in
grades,
5
and
6,
and
5
of
the
10
schools
that
have
awc
classes
in
grade
4
will
not
take
new
students
into
that
grade.
Either.
Bps
has
spent
years
talking
about
creating
equity
in
years.
Talking
about
efa,
meanwhile
performance
across
the
boards
in
grades,
three
through
eight
has
three
to
eight
has
fallen,
but
all
is
not
lost.
A
target
group
has
been
formed
to
fix
the
problems
in
awc,
as
they
for
sure
have
fixed
the
exam
schools.
F
The
bps
opportunity
and
achievement
gap
policy
states
that
every
child
in
every
classroom
in
every
school
of
boss
of
the
boston
public
school
system
has
the
same
opportunity
to
achieve
the
greatness
within
them
as
anybody
else.
This
simply
is
not
true.
The
students
that
are
in
those
15
schools
that
have
efa
next
year
will
not
have
the
same
opportunities
as
those
with
efa.
F
F
To
delay
this
implementation
any
longer
the
children
affected
most
by
the
pandemic,
policies
of
remote
learning
might
not
be
fully
known
for
years
to
come,
but
students
are
falling
gray
levels
behind
education.
Experts
say
in
order
for
high
res
students
to
catch
up,
it's
going
to
take
some
extreme
hard
work
from
administrators
teachers
and
families.
I'm
willing
to
do
my
part.
I
you.
I
asked
the
school
committee
to
expand
the
efa
curriculum
to
all
elementary
and
k-8
schools
next
year.
Thank
you.

2020-2025
schools
should
work
to
provide
students
with
an
equitable,
world-class,
high-quality
education.
We
do
not
believe
that
this
is
that
this
vision
of
equity
for
students
can
be
achieved
without
also
applying
the
same
principle
to
staff.
Yet
this
is
not
the
case
across
bps.
As
the
experiences
of
up
academy
and
the
diverse
staff
show.
AD
The
traditional
bps
school
has
a
6

a

of
45

9

This
means
up.
Educators
are
working
more
than
a
full
work
day
longer
each
week
for
less
pay.
Overall,
this
gap
in
pay
equity
has
led
to
a
school
day
that
is
unsustainable
for
both
students
and
staff,
lowering
staff
from
morale
and
leading
to
a
high
staff
turnover
at
schools
as
educators
leave
in
search
of
more
sustainable
employment
opportunities.
AD
The
turnover
is
noticed
by

recognize
the
disproportionate
number
of
new

in
their

Hello
there
I
am
hello,
everybody
I'll
just
get
right
to
it.
My
name
is
mary.
Lee
mara,
I've
lived
in
boston.
All
my
life
attended,
bps
k
through
12.
AC
And
for
almost
25
years
I
had
three
children
in
the
bps
k
through
12.,
I
was
always
active
in
their
schools
and
in
the
cpc
and
last
night
I
sat
with
a
group
of
wonderful
cpc
parents,
so
they're
still
as
great
as
they
ever
were.
I'm
a
graduate
of
boston
city
hospital
school
in
nursing,
I've
been
in
rn
for
47
years
and
40
of
those
years
has
been
as
a
nurse
educator.
AC
Madam
chairperson.
This
is
what
I
wanted
to
say
to
dr
cacillius
tonight,
I'm
so
sorry
she
isn't
here.
Dr
castillos,
I
read
in
the
papers
about
you
personally
delivering
hot
spots
to
families
of
bps
students
during
the
pandemic,
trying
to
assure
access
to
learning
for
as
many
children
as
possible.
AC
AC
I
think
that
the
heart
you
have
shown
for
our
bps
children
would
have
gone
very
far
to
help
children
achieve
in
the
city.
Parents
that
can
attach
to
to
leaders
with
heart
have
always
made
good
things
happen
in
the
system
a
while
back.
There
was
a
dr
harrison
jones.
Parent
involvement
was
at
a
fever
pitch
in
the
city.
Sarah
lawrence
lightfoot
has
done
research
that
showed
of
the
many
variables
that
can
create
success
in
our
classroom,
cameron,
involvements
charge
up
schools,
they
charge
up
principals
and
and
children's
work
harder.
AC
What
are
we
doing
in
this
city?
What
folly
are
you
part
of
I?
We
have
all
watched
parents
have
been
through
this
before
we've
we've
watched
as
the
power
brokers,
oh
okay,
power
brokers
in
back
rooms,
make
decisions
that
leave
parents
out.
Dr
harrison
jones
said
to
us
I'll,
never
forget
this
quote.
It
was
at
grove
hall
and
they
had
done
the
same
thing
to
her.
That
they're
doing
to
brenda
cassellius
dr
harrison
jones
said
never
underestimate
the
power
of
the
parents
of
sixty-five
thousand
children.
AC
AE
On
you,
okay
hi,
my
name
is
fran
brangman,
also
known
as
friend
smith.
I
wanted
to
share
this
fabulous
project
that
I
worked
on
called
real
talk
for
change,
boston.
It
was
phenomenal
and
I
share
it
with
you,
because
we
got
people
together
and
we
asked
them.
What
is
the
future
of
boston
and
you're
a
place
in
it
and
then
share
your
experience?
We
worked
with
mit
and
that
con
the
center
for
constructive
conversation,
and
then
they
upload
all
the
conversations,
and
they
have
these
sense
makers
make
sense
of
it.
AE
AE
I'm
not
very
good
at
describing
the
technology,
but
it's
a
fusion.
Imagine
this
being
at
the
bus,
stop
having
the
conversation
with
parents
about
what
we
care
about
in
terms
of
the
future
of
education
for
our
children
and
sharing
our
experiences,
building
community
building
understanding
and
also
gleaming
what
the
most
important
things
are
from
parents,
students
and
teachers
as
we
move
forward
in
the
superintendent's
search.
I
really
want
to
thank
you
for
your
service,
chair
robinson
and
mr
o'neal.
You
guys
have
been
around
for
almost
as
long
as
me
and
yeah.
AE
I
just
want
to
thank
you
for
your
willingness
to
engage
in
new
and
different
ways
and
I'm
meeting
with
the
mit
tomorrow,
and
we
still
have
some
resources
to
move
this
and
we've
already
set
up
some
conversations
with
freedom
house
scholars,
so
please
check
it
out
and
look
into
mia
caesar
iran
we'd
love
to
participate
with
this
community
engagement
process,
peace
and
blessings
and
good
luck,
you
all
have
a
really
rough
job
ahead
of
you.
AE
M
C
A
You
and
thank
you
to
those
of
you
who
spoke
this
evening
and
shared
your
perspective.
Your
testimony
is
very
important
to
oops
get
to
us.
Our
first
action
item
this
evening
is
the
authorization
of
me
as
cheer
to
sign
a
separation
agreement
between
the
boston,
pub
boston,
school
committee
and
superintendent,
brenda
consolius
outlined
in
the
terms
discussed
by
the
committee
a
few
moments
ago,
I'll
now
open
it
up
to
the
committee
for
final
questions
and
comments.
L
I
think
it's
important
after
so
many
moving
testimonies
this
evening
focused
on
this
topic,
to
just
reiterate
what
so
many
of
us
were
saying
earlier,
which
is
a
real
commitment
to
using
this
search
process
to
one
also
help
in
the
future,
define
a
contract
that
feels
equitable,
but
also
defined
the
various
scenarios
that
we've
seen
ourselves
in
over
the
last
few
years
as
we
deal
with
transition,
and
so
I'm
committed
to
that
process.
N
A
B
D
D
C
N
O
A
D
Thank
you,
madam
chair.
I
just
want
to
first
say
that
I
am
grateful
for
my
proposed
engagement
on
the
search
committee.
Thank
you
for
entrusting
me
proposing
to
entrust
me
with
this
responsibility.
D
For
me,
this
is
this
is
personal.
This
is
a
work,
and
I
I
understand
that
this
would
be
being
entrusted
by
the
community
to
do
this,
so
just
wanted
to
make
sure
that
my
colleagues
and
the
public
were
aware
of
that
information.
Thank
you.
N
Yes,
I
don't
know
whether
you
know
my
request
is
something
that
is
appropriate
or
not,
but
I'm
gonna
raise
it
here
anyway.
For
for
the
purpose
of
uniformity
and
transparency,
as
as
a
matter
of
fact
is
there,
is
it
possible
for
us,
as
a
member
of
the
bps
committee,
to
have
access
to
the
list
of
questions
that
the
the
interviewing
committee?
N
N
Background
information
about
the
candidates
that
are
that
that
that
you,
that
the
committee
will
ask
to
come
for
for
the
you
know
for,
for
the
first
interview.
O
Mr
tron
historically
and
I
do
believe
this
search
committee
would
certainly
follow
that
process.
There
will
be
very
regular
updates.
I
think
the
chair
has
asked
the
search
committee
to
consider
interview
updating
the
school
committee
at
at
every
or
every
other
school
committee
meeting
coming
up
about
the
process.
O
Historically,
the
search
committee
has
updated
the
school
committee
on
a
general
range
of
of
you
know
what
the
breakdown
is
of
the
pool
that
they're
looking
at
with
regards
to
gender
ethnicity
experience
that
type
of
thing,
while
also
working
with
the
search
firm
and
how
to
phrase
it
to
preserve
confidentiality.
You
wouldn't
want
to
say,
for
example,
and
and
this
is
purely
a
hypothetical
example,
you
know
you're
looking
at
one
male
superintendent
from
you
know,
from
xyz.
Q
O
Then
and
then
that
would
risk
it
and
so
where's
the
confidentiality
excuse
me,
ms
mackey,
thank
you.
So
I
believe
the
chair
is
planning
on
having
the
search
committee
update
the
school
committee
on
a
very
regular
basis,
which
would
include
that
type
of
information.
I
think
also
in
the
past.
The
search
committee
as
part
of
their
listening
process
has
encouraged
input
from
the
community
and
from
the
school
committee
of
what
type
of
questions
should
we
be
asking
to.
O
You
know
when
we
prepare
to
actually
interview
candidates,
so
I
hope
that
gives
you
some
guidance.
It
would
obviously
up
to
be
up
to
the
leadership
of
this
search
committee,
which
would
include
ms
lopira
and
president
president
eppinger
and
marcus.
A
O
O
Thank
you:
okay,
marcus
mcneil.
As
a
educator,
a
parent
and
a
student
they're
going
to
be
the
leadership
of
the
search
committee,
so
I
think
they
will
set
the
parameters
of
how
they'll
be
gathering
input,
as
well
as
what
they'll
be
sharing
with
the
school
committee.
Is
that
helpful?
Mr
tran.
N
Yes,
thank
you
to
certain
extent,
it
helps,
but
we
have
been
hearing
a
lot
of
community
outcry
for
lack
of
involvement.
I
understand
that
you
know
we
are
trying
to
the
best
we
can
to
to
include
community
involvement
in
all
the
critical
processes
that
we
initiate.
N
N
N
Without
having
the
deadline,
I
I
guess,
but
again
I'm
just
appealing
to
all
of
you
for
the
in
in
the
in
the
committee
in
the
search
committee
that
community
transparency
has
always
been.
N
You
know
a
a
a
live
wire
for
lack
of
better
term
in
this
kind
of
crucial
processes.
So
I
understand
again
balancing
between
confidentiality
and
community
concern.
There
is
that
that
is
pretty
complicated,
but
we
have
to
find
a
way
to
to
to
alleviate
that
concern.
Thank
you.
L
Just
want
to
thank
you,
chair,
robinson
too,
for
your
leadership
here
and
continuing
to
keep
us
all
informed
on
this
process.
While
it's
moving
quickly-
and
I
know
that,
while
this
committee
is
smaller
than
previous
search
committees,
I
feel
that
we
are
equally.
L
All
of
us
are
aligned
in
terms
of
value
around
how
important
this
space
will
be
to
continue
to
share
out,
what's
happening
on
that
search
committee,
where
it
makes
sense
and
where
it's
appropriate-
and
I
think
it's
been
really
clear
tonight
as
well,
how
much
this
group
is
committed
to
making
sure
that
there
are
opportunities
for
community
input,
and
so
I
just
want
to
say
thank
you
for
that.
N
C
E
D
N
O
C
Ms
robinson,
yes,
thank
you.
The
motion
passes
with
five
yays
and
two
abstentions.
D
Thank
you,
madam
chair.
This
is
just
a
comment
of
appreciation
for
miss
mercer.
I
know
that
she
had
her
february
break
last
week
and
she
participated
in
a
high
school
internship
program.
D
Supporting
students
at
the
warren
prescott
so
just
wanted
to
take
the
opportunity
to
thank
her
for
her
leadership
for
her
continued
involvement,
and
I
really
hope
that
education
is
in
her
world
and
in
her
future,
especially
if
she
ends
up
going
to
a
place
like
bc.
I
mean
no
pressure
or
anything,
but
just
thank
you
for
for
your
continued
leadership
and
your
everyday
leadership,
and
I
know
that
those
kiddos
really
appreciated
you
and
are
singing
your
praises
because
word
is
making
it
over
to
me
to
share
your
work
there.
So
thank
you.
