From YouTube: Marcella Park Opening
Description
Mayor Walsh and Parks Commissioner Cook cut the ribbon on the newly renovated Marcella Park in Roxbury. The $2.1 million comprehensive renovation of the park expanded fields, added lighting, new play structures and a perimeter path as well as major repairs to the tennis courts and much more. Altogether, this new community area will serve as a state of the art place for young and old to enjoy.
A
You
good
morning,
everyone
if
I
could
have
your
attention
if
you
could
come
join
us
and
gather
us
gather
around
that
all
the
kids
can
feel
free
to
keep
enjoying
the
park.
That's
what
it's
for
my
name
is
chris
cook
on
the
parks,
commissioner,
for
the
City
of
Boston,
and
we
couldn't
be
happier
to
be
here
in
marcello
park
and
beautiful
Roxbury.
Give
yourselves
a
round
of
applause
for
making
this
park
happen.
A
A
Parks
also
don't
happen
without
extraordinary
partnership
and
extraordinary
leadership,
and
we
have
a
lot
of
a
lot
of
leaders
here
today,
but
I'm
very,
very
proud
to
work
for
the
mayor,
Boston
Martin,
J
Walsh,
who,
for
the
past
two
years,
has
put
the
largest
parks
department
budget
in
history
before
the
city
council
and
then
we're
very
grateful
for
the
City
Council
for
approving
those
budgets.
As
we're
celebrating
this
opening
here
today
on
this
beautiful
Saturday,
it
gives
me
great
pleasure
to
introduce
to
you
the
mayor
of
Boston,
Martin,
J
Walsh,.
B
Thank
you,
Chris
and
I
want
to
thank
Commissioner,
cooking
and
everyone
at
parks
and
recreation
they're
doing
an
incredible
job,
not
just
here
at
this
part,
but
all
the
other
parts
of
the
city
of
austin.
Just
before
I
talk
about
this
part
this
year
we
have
the
park
first
initiative.
We
started
last
year
where
we
made
a
forty
seven
point:
six
million
dollar
investment
in
our
parks,
department,
budgets,
the
largest
investment,
the
history
of
our
parks.
B
We
want
to
make
sure
Thank,
You
councillor
won't-
and
I
should
say
this
because
it's
true
City
Council,
Ayanna
Pressley
is
with
us
today,
guys
I'll
get
to
them
in
a
second
city
council,
nice,
wasabi
George's
with
us
today,
City
Council,
Michael
clarity's
with
us
today,
and
when
we
all
we
all
got
together,
we
usually
get
together
individually
and
then
we
get
to
go
as
a
group
to
talk
about
the
budget
and
last
year,
not
this
year.
Last
year
we
talked
about
our
parks.
B
We
got
a
lot
of
calls
from
from
constituents
to
all
our
offices
about
the
products
making.
You
know
some
of
them
weren't
clean
some
of
them
weren't
up
to
speed.
Some
of
them
needed
fixing
and
repairs.
So
last
year
we
made
a
47
million
dollar
investment
in
our
parks.
That
was
last
year
and
people
were
excited
and
we're
looking
at
our
products.
How
do
we
redesign
them
and
build
them
so
that
we're
not
fixing
a
fence
here
and
fixing
eventually
and
doing
something
else?
Here
we
said
we
want
to
be
more
comprehensive.
B
We
put
on
another
crew
of
workers
to
work
with
Kristin
and
the
team,
because
we
didn't
have
the
capacity
to
clean
our
products.
Over
the
weekend
we
had
people
over
to
a
certain
point.
We
didn't
help
equals.
We
put
more
people
on
another
ship
to
people
in
initiate.
We
followed
up
with
a
budget
of
forty
seven
point:
six
million
dollars
to
do
more
renovations
of
our
products,
and
really
you
know
we
have
our
products
are
special.
B
When
you
look
around
this
park
right
now,
it's
probably
one
of
the
only
things
that
everyone
in
the
community
can
use.
We
have
young
children,
sometimes
use
our
school
department's.
We
have
senior
centers.
Sometimes
people
use
our
senior
centers,
but
parks
are
really
for
everybody,
for
everyone
to
use
they're
both
passive
they're
active
and
we
do
a
lot
of
stuff.
So
all
the
elected
officials
that
are
here
you
know
we
want
to
thank
you,
the
community,
for
allowing
us
the
opportunity
to
help
you
to
make
that
investment
in
this
particular
part
included.
B
2.1
million
dollar
investment,
we
expanded
the
fields,
and
I
see
the
basis
here-
baseball
players
on
the
bases
here.
So
I
want
to
thank
them
for
being
here
with
us.
We
renovated
the
perimeters
in
the
walkways
to
make
them
more
open
and
accessible.
We've
worked
on
more
lighting,
and
I
know
to
some
degree
it's
a
little.
I
guess
that's
controversial
lately.
I
don't
know
why.
But
it's
important
for
us
to
it's
important
for
us
to
make
sure
that
we
some
of
these
spaces.
B
We
need
to
open
up
to
make
sure
that
we
can
have
people
use
it
all
at
all
times,
so
we
have.
Rather,
we
have
upgraded
lighting,
we've
had
tennis
and
basketball
courts.
Tennis
is
a
big
sport
in
Boston,
you
would
know
you'll
buy.
Every
part
is
always
something
playing
tennis
and
basketball.
Currently
is
a
great
sport,
particularly
now
with
the
Celtics
is
they're
getting
better
and
better
every
day.
So
we
want
to
see
that
happening.
B
We
have
new
play
structures
and,
if
you
remember
old,
play
structures,
there's
always
wood
chips
or
something
going
on
there,
and
these
play
structures
are
are
safe
for
our
kids
and
and
we
want
we're
going
to
continue
to
make
sure
that
we
do
these
across
the
city
of
Boston.
We
have
included.
These
are
inclusive
upgrades
for
children
of
all
abilities
and
that's
something
that
we're
changing
the
city
we're
going
towards
that,
so
that
negative
counselor.
B
B
We
didn't
have
a
pool
on
my
back
and
sometimes
I
didn't
do
this,
but
Aneesa
sabe
tu
does,
but
the
fire
hydrant
got
open
once
a
while
I
didn't
do
that,
though,
but
having
that
the
spray
area
is
important
as
well
for
our
community
for
arcades,
because
not
everyone
has
the
opportunity
to
have
a
cape
or
go
places.
We
want
to
make
sure
we
have
good
things
enabled
so
with
all
that
this
this
community
deserves
it
Thank
You
neighborhood.
Thank
you
for
your
advocacy,
thank
you
for
your
persistence
and
what
you've
done
to
us.
B
A
Thank
you
so
so
much
mayor.
If
you
a
few
more
thank
yous,
great
parks,
don't
happen
without
great
project
management.
Design.
I
want
to
thank
the
project
manager
on
this
park,
specifically
who
worked
so
well
with
the
community
over
six
community
meetings.
Kathy
Baker
clips
give
kathy
a
nice
round
of
applause
whoo.
The
poor
thing
is
going
to
go
back
to
the
office
and
works
and
more
for
the
Boston
parks
department
after
this.
So
thank
you
for
giving
your
Saturday
to
us.
A
I
want
to
thank
the
designer
Warner
Larson's
boston-based
designer
I,
just
fantastic
based
out
of
South
Boston,
David
and
Samir
are
here
with
us,
and
dave
was
actually
the
principal
on
this
project,
so
very
grateful
for
all
the
work
on
some
of
the
thoughtful
work
that
went
into
is
just
the
sunflowers
the
sunflowers.
In
the
end,
the
play
equipment
is
a
tribute
to
Sam
sad
from
the
Hawthorne
youth
centers
have
gives
her
memory.
A
A
round
of
applause
just
shows
how
thoughtful
David
is
when
he
leaves
in
these
these
narratives
into
our
parks
and
in
the
in
the
Fleming
and
the
Fleming
brothers.
The
contractor
out
here.
Anyone
who
is
living
around
here
knows
that
this
project
got
done
relatively
quickly
to
care
compared
to
other
parts,
and
that's
because
the
amazing
work
of
Fleming
brothers,
the
contractor
here
and
Ashley
from
Fleming's
actually
here
with
us,
Ashley
on
it
very
nice,
to
see
a
good
round
of
applause.
C
B
C
Aisles
remind
folks
that
roxbury
is
the
center
of
the
city
of
Boston
and,
as
goes
Roxbury
will
go
the
city
of
Boston
and
we
are
on
the
move
and
we
are
on
the
rise,
and
this
is
a
great
day
today
would
like
to
definitely
thank
our
mayor
for
this
budget
allocation
and
we'll
be
coming
back
to
him
for
a
little
bit
more
in
the
budget.
For
some
other
parts
around
the
neighborhood
right.
Can
we
get
a
Amen
also
want
to
thank
our
Parks.
C
C
But
we
will
send
a
dollar
to
the
state
and
we'll
come
back
as
one
point
five
dollars.
It
will
help
us
support
parks.
It
will
help
us
support
historic
houses
and
historic
projects
around
the
city
of
Boston,
and
it
will
also
help
us
support
one
of
the
things,
especially
in
Fort
Hill.
That
is
a
pressure
which
is
affordable,
housing
and
around
our
community.
So
we
have
an
opportunity
to
do
more
in
our
neighborhood
and
community
by
supporting
the
community
preservation
act.
C
So
I
would
ask
that
you
vote
in
the
affirmative
and
make
sure
there's
a
bunch
of
questions.
Question
5
is
actually
only
in
Boston.
So
if
you
talk
to
any
of
your
friends
outside
the
city,
they're
not
going
to
know
what
you're
talking
about,
but
it's
something
that
will
make
a
huge
difference
to
to
our
communities
and
I
would
just
simply
say,
parks
and
meeting
places.
C
Those
are
the
places
that
I
really
look
at
as
our
community
I
love
our
homes
and
I
love
our
municipal
buildings,
but
what
we
are
able
to
do
together
in
our
parts,
I
really
look
at
is
where
we
actually
have
community
and
we
connect
with
each
other.
So
I.
Thank
you
for
this
opportunity
to
be
here
today.
I.
Thank
you
for
the
opportunity
to
serve
and
big
props
to
our
mayor,
martin,
j
walsh,
for
helping
us
out
with
this,
as
well
as
our
commissioner
for
the
great
work
that
he
contain.
Thank
you
so
much.
A
Thank
you
so
much
counselor
and
now
this
is
the
really
exciting
part
if
I
could
have
all
the
children
who
wish
to
join
us
over
at
this
ribbon.
So
we
could
actually
cut
this
ribbon.
If
I
can
ask
David
Warner
to
come
over
and
join
us
and
Ashley
from
blending,
all
the
kids
and
the
electeds
come
on
over
and
join
us
we're
going
to
cut
the
ribbon.
