From YouTube: A Street Park Sign Unveiling
Description
Mayor Walsh visits the brand new A Street Park in South Boston as part of the Mayor's Neighborhood Coffee Hour series. The series gives Boston residents an opportunity to talk to Mayor Walsh and other city officials about the issues facing them and their neighborhoods.
A
Good
morning,
everyone
welcome
to
a
street
park,
give
yourselves
a
round
of
applause
for
point,
an
extraordinary
Park,
and
it
was
built
through
extraordinary
partnerships.
First
and
foremost,
I
want
to
thank
the
hundred
acres,
Improvement
Association,
who
manages
and
maintains
this
park.
If
you
could
give
them
a
round
of
applause.
A
Anyone
who
experiences
this
space
knows
that
it
receives
an
extraordinary
amount
of
maintenance.
It's
a
lot
of
hard
work
that
goes
into
that,
and
we're
very,
very,
very
grateful
for
the
partnership.
This
park
was
built
as
part
of
a
community
benefits
package
and
was
built
up
by
CV
properties.
We're
very
honored
today
to
be
joined
by
mr.
Eli
long
who's
out
here,
representing
CV
properties.
A
A
Thank
you
very
much
for
that,
but
once
again,
this
is
just
an
extraordinary
partnership
in
the
truest
and
the
truest
sense
of
the
word.
We
have
great
opportunities
in
the
park
and
the
park
system
to
add
space.
What
we
don't
always
have
is
great
opportunities
to
make
sure
that
those
spaces
are
cared
for
in
perpetuity
the
community
around
this
park,
especially
the
four
point
community.
The
four
point:
Neighborhood
Association,
of
course
we're
joined
here
by
Sarah,
McCammon
and
others
representing
a
four
point.
Neighborhood
Association.
A
They
really
fought
to
make
sure
that
this
space
was
built
and
built
so
that
it
was
very
reflective
and
inclusive
for
the
community,
but
then
also
taken
care
of,
and
so
we're
very,
very
grateful
for
the
community
for
all
the
advocacy
they
did
around
this
park.
And
again
this
park
is
extraordinary.
Well
taken
care
of
here
representing
CV
properties.
Is
mr.
eel
Island.
Please
give
them
a
warm
a
Street
Park
welcome,
Thank.
B
A
Thanks
Ellen,
thank
you
so
much
Eli.
Once
again,
partnerships
are
important
in
the
city
and
it's
important
for
the
parks
department
to
have
a
great
partnership
in
the
mayor.
The
mayor
wants
to
add
open
space
to
the
city,
and
the
mayor
wants
to
invest
in
our
existing
open
space
in
the
city.
We're
very
grateful
for
that.
In
fact,
in
the
last
three
years
the
mayor
has
actually
increased
the
parks
department
budget
every
year
he's
been
in
office.
Ladies
and
gentlemen,
please
a
warm
four-point.
Welcome
for
the
mayor
of
Boston,
Martin,
J
Wallace.
C
C
Think
I
think
that
we
have
probably
one
of
the
best
Parks
departments
in
the
country,
and
one
of
our
goals
was
to
make
sure
that
we
have
the
greatest
park
system
in
the
country
and
if
you
look
at
numbers,
we're
usually
depending
on
what
you
measure
a
park
with
with
number
one
number
two
or
number
three
in
different
areas.
But
we
have
a
goal
to
to
get
every
Boston
resident
within
ten
minutes
of
walking
to
a
park
in
the
neighborhoods.
C
They
did
192
send
ninety-five
percent
there
in
the
city,
so
we're
going
to
continue
to
move
forward
on
our
parks.
We've
also
made
about
almost
a
300
million
dollar
investment
in
our
parks
department
over
the
last
three
and
a
half
years
here
in
the
city
of
Austin,
and
that's
building
new
parks
and
renovating
parks.
I'm
going
to
continue
to
do
that.
So
it's
great
to
be
here
today,
an
HP,
Park
and
I
want
to
thank
all
the
residents
who
came
out
for
love
you
block
last
week
and
help
clean
this
park.
C
So
thank
you
to
all
the
residents
that
were
part
of
that
and
we're
joined
today
by
many
people.
I
know
that
this
is
our
first
time
doing
a
coffee
in
the
park
here.
So
the
idea
behind
this
park
is
is
that
we
come
out.
We
bring
out
city
departments,
we
talked
a
little
bit.
We
don't
do
a
question
and
answer,
but
we
have
every
department
just
about
covered
here.
C
So
I
want
to
start
with
just
introducing
our
elected
officials
and
I'm
Michael
clarity
come
up
here
and
say
a
couple
words
in
a
minute,
but
city
council,
michael
clarity
for
I,
think
hung
in
this
park.
Long
before
was
a
part
City
Council,
nice
rossabi
George
had
to
run,
but
she
was
here
so
they
can
counsel
nice
asabi
George.
C
We
have
as
I
look
around.
We
have
kena
pen
docket
commissioner
transportation
with
us.
Today
we
have
Mike
Rowe
from
public
works
with
us.
Today
we
have
bill
Christopher,
buddy
Christopher,
from
special
services.
Today
with
us.
Today
we
have
Devin
quirk
from
Department
April
development
housing.
If
any
housing
issues
we
are
also
flying
in
from
the
environment,
we
have
Larry
Morita
from
the
varsity
level,
not
the
Boston
planning
in
the
realm
agency.
C
C
Some
of
the
things
that
were
working
on
and
I
was
asked
a
couple
couple
questions,
so
we're
reconstructing
some
the
street
from
full
point
channel
to
the
boston,
wolf,
the
7.4
million
dollar
city
and
state
we're
doing
roadways,
we're
doing
sidewalks
were
doing
likes
and
we're
doing
bike
lanes,
so
that
project
was
happening
in
2000
this
the
end
of
this
year.
In
the
next
year
we
have
a
1.5
million
dollar
apart
to
do
our
planning
of
the
northern
Avenue
Bridge
I,
don't
have
an
official
date
for
that.
C
Michael
Denny
he'll,
probably
go
after
me,
but
I'd
love
to
see
a
shovel
in
the
ground
or
a
train
in
the
air
or
something
around
that
bridge
by
2018.
So
I
know
that
we
had
done
the
design
phase,
so
we're
looking
at
how
we
move
that
bridge
forward,
looking
at
kind
of
a
bridge
that
can
be
both
pedestrian
and
in
a
little
bit
for
automobiles.
In
the
reason
I
say
that
is
that
I
know
a
lot
of
people
enable
Mike
one
adjust
pedestrian,
but
your
traffic
here
on
the
street.
C
We
need
to
alleviate
the
traffic
and
the
way
we
alleviate
the
traffic
is
by
giving
cars
the
ability
to
get
off
of
certain
areas.
So
I
think
we
have
to
look
at
that.
Martin's
Park,
which
we're
excited
about
breaking
ground
on
down
the
street.
It's
going
to
be
a
fully
100%,
inclusive
part.
The
total
package
of
that
is
a
thirteen
million
dollar
park.
13
million
dollar
price
tag,
a
million
and
a
half
is
initiative
budget
from
the
city
5.5
from
state
donations.
So
we
have
the
money.
The
last
bit
of
money.
C
We're
raising
now
is
for
the
endowment
and
we
are
moving
forward
in
that
Park.
We're
excited
about
that
in
the
budget
is
a
15
million
dollar
renovation
to
the
Boston
Center
view
the
families,
the
Curley
son
of
the
elf
working
on
design
of
that
right
now,
so
we'll
be
moving
forward
on
that.
The
two
million
dollar
renovation-
that's
underway
right
now,
Medal
of
Honor
Park
and
lead
playgrounds
up
on
Broadway
notice,
the
fence
around
it
we're
doing
all
the
walkways
over.
C
That
Park
is
the
home
to
the
first
Vietnam
Memorial,
the
United
States
of
America,
and
also
Medal
of
Honor
Park.
So
we're
working
on
that
we're
developing
a
multi,
multi-part
master
plan,
certainly
looking
at
multi
Park,
and
how
do
we
we're
going
to
be
making
a
large
investment
in
that
in
the
years
to
come
when
I
say
is
the
common
next
couple
of
years
here?
It's
a
part
that
hasn't
really
been
designed
hasn't
been
touched
in
a
long
time.
C
So
again,
working
on
that
also
100
we're
putting
$100,000
donation
into
the
South
Boston
library
of
a
renovation.
We're
going
to
be
doing
something
long-term
later
on
on
that
and
then
also
today,
we're
excited
that
the
Parks
and
Recreation
Department
will
accept
formally
accept
this
park
here
today.
So
we
look
forward
to
working
with
all
the
neighbors
down
here.
I
want
to
thank
you
for
what
you
do
every
single
day
and
please
take
advantage
of
all
the
folks
that
are
here
today
and
talk
to
them
from
the
city.
C
If
you
have
any
questions
on
people
and
thank
you
for
your
patience,
I
know
that
this
is
this
table
has
been
developed
as
we've
been
developing
for
a
long
time
exposed
to
a
lot
of
different
transformation.
Those
of
you
that
a
longtime
resident
I'm
glad
you
survived,
those
are
new
residents.
We
want
to
welcome
you
to
the
neighborhood
and
without
further
ado
up
an
ass,
but
also
to.
D
Thank
You
mayor,
obviously
a
great
day
to
be
here,
welcome
to
South
Boston,
remember
being
down
here
as
a
kid
with
the
old,
dilapidated
buildings
in
the
abandoned
stolen
cars.
So
my
grandmother
and
my
father
and
his
brothers
and
sisters
I
grew
up
just
behind
this
building
here
so
with
the
venture
over
here
play.
Relieve
EO
and
things
like
that.
D
Let
them
know
what's
going
on
what
your
concerns
are
and
maybe
share
with
them
some
thoughts
and
maybe
a
couple
good
ideas
that
we
could
implement
to
make
our
city
better.
So,
on
behalf
of
my
colleagues
in
the
City,
Council
would
like
to
thank
you
all
for
so.
This
is
make
sure
that
you
take
care
of
the
pack
and,
let
us
know
things
are
going
on
down
here,
that
that
are
not
fitting
for
for
this
park.
D
That's
our
job
as
well,
so
without
further
ado
I'm
going
to
introduce
my
colleague
in
government
I
know
that
there's
also
two
candidates
here,
I
see
my
twin
is
here
and
I
also
see
Mike
Elias.
He
had
two
candidates
for
district
2,
City
Council,
so
welcome
to
both
of
them
and
without
further
ado
I'm
going
to
introduce
a
state
representative
state
representative,
Nick,
Collins.
E
Good
morning,
everyone
it's
great
to
be
here.
I
know
this
effort
was
a
an
effort
that
took
a
lot
of
time
as
council
clarity
had
mentioned
as
part
of
a
planning
process,
and
you
know
what's
great
about
mayor
Walsh
and
his
team
is
that
they
they
are
really
about
community
driven
development
on
projects
like
this,
and
we
need
to
see
more
green
space
here
and
full
point
in
the
waterfront
and
I'm
committed
to
working
with
the
administration
and
the
community
on
that
much
us
here,
but
on
the
waterfront
in
Seaport,
Square
and
other
places.
