From YouTube: COVID-19 Media Availability 5-25-21
Description
Boston Mayor Kim Janey hosts a media availability to discuss updates relating to COVID-19.
A
A
A
A
This
weekend
on
may
29th,
we
will
host
an
event
to
remember
those
we've
lost
and
reclaimed
space
to
do
the
important
racial
equity
and
justice
work.
I
want
to
recognize
those
who
are
co-hosting
this
event
to
honor
george
floyd.
Our
co-hosts
include
beckma
and
the
social
justice
center
at
emerson,
college
and
also
king
boston
and
I'm
joined
today
by
imari
jeffries.
A
A
I
am
proud
to
report
that
we
continue
to
see
boston's
covet
metrics
trending
in
the
right
direction,
including
in
our
hardest
hit,
neighborhoods
and
in
communities
of
color.
The
number
of
coveted
infections
in
the
city
has
dropped
by
51
percent.
Over
the
past
two
weeks,
we
now
have
a
city-wide
positivity
rate
of
just
1.6
percent,
a
historic
low.
A
A
I
am
creating
an
equitable
recovery
coordinating
committee
consisting
of
members
of
my
cabinet,
along
with
external
stakeholders
that
will
help
ensure
the
equitable
distribution
of
this
funding.
We
will
also
work
in
partnership
with
the
boston
city
council
to
address
the
inequities
that
were
here
long
before
coven.
A
I've
built
a
robust
package
of
investments
that
protects
the
lives
and
livelihoods
of
boston
residents
residents
like
boston
entrepreneur,
shanita
clark,
who
is
here
with
me
today.
Miss
clark
owns
salvage
roots
in
dorchester
in
2020.
She
was
able
to
keep
her
business
afloat
with
commercial
rent
relief
and
other
supports
by
the
city
of
boston,
and
we
will
make
small
business
relief
programs
even
stronger.
With
funding
from
the
american
rescue
plan.
A
With
the
first
50
million
in
federal
funding,
we
will
immediately
build
on
our
emergency
relief
efforts,
including
10
million
dollars,
to
support
our
public
health
response,
including
our
four-pronged
approach
to
delivering
covert
vaccinations
to
residents.
It
will
also
support
behavioral
health
and
substance
use
disorder,
including
focused
funding
for
the
opioid
treatment
and
services
here
in
boston.
A
In
addition
to
the
50
million
dollars,
I've
already
invested
in
rental
relief
fund,
which
supports
residents
experiencing
housing
and
security
due
to
covid,
there's
also
15.5
million
to
support
small
businesses
that
have
been
hard
hit
by
the
pandemic,
and
here
in
city
hall,
our
in-person
services
will
be
available
for
appointment
four
days
a
week,
beginning
on
may
29th
and
run
until
july,
9th
as
we
move
closer
to
full
reopening
over
the
coming
weeks.
I'm
happy
to
share
that
beginning
on
july
12th.
A
We
will
continue
to
support
our
city
employees
as
they
return
back
into
the
building,
and
I
want
to
thank
my
team
members
that
are
here,
including
chief
martinez,
chief,
aisha
miller
chief,
who
is
here
chief
celina
midori
is
here,
thank
you
all
for
being
here,
and
I
also
want
to
acknowledge
lori
nelson
from
the
mayor's
office
of
resilience
and
and
racial
equity.
Thank
you
so
much
and
I
will
take
just
a
few
questions.
A
Absolutely
the
question
was
on
outdoor
dining.
This
is
where
we
have
been.
This
has
been
a
lifeline
for
our
restaurants
and
we
certainly
welcome
any
support
from
the
state
that
will
allow
us
here
in
boston
to
continue
outdoor
dining
experience,
not
just
for
the
restaurants
as
a
lifeline
for
them,
but
we
have
also
seen
that
our
residents
enjoy
this
experience,
and
so
we
will
do
everything
to
keep
this
going
not
just
this
year.
A
But
I
think
this
is
something
from
covid
and
our
relief
to
restaurants
and
business
owners
that
we
would
want
to
see
continue
a
long
term,
and
so
we
will
certainly
work
toward
that
goal.
A
A
So
the
question
was
on
reopening.
We
will
continue
to
support
our
small
business
owners,
the
other
workforce
across
the
city,
as
people
are
coming
back
to
work,
not
just
here
in
city
hall.
There
is
certainly
more
work
to
do
in
terms
of
ensuring
that
people
have
ppe
and
all
the
supplies
that
they
need
here.
A
But
I
think
it
is
important
also
that
we
create
space
for
being
intentional
around
joy
and
the
collective
healing
that
joy
can
bring,
and
so
we'll
be
talking
more
about
our
joy
agenda
here
in
boston
as
part
of
the
renewing
piece
of
the
recovery
reopening
and
renewal
for
boston.
A
And
so
we
will
kick
that
off
as
well.
With
this
event
over
the
weekend
as
we
reflect
and
remember
those
we've
lost
due
to
racism
and
racial
injustice
in
our
in
our
world,
but
also
a
space
for
collective
healing
and
how
we
continue
to
move
forward
in
terms
of
action
to
combat
not
only
covet
but
racial
injustice
throughout
our
city.
A
A
A
A
This
really
is
an
urgent
call
to
action
to
continue
the
work
that
is
already
underway
when
it
comes
to
racial
justice
and
equity
work
and
to
double
down
on
our
efforts.
We
are
doing
that
through
our
investments
with
the
fy
22
budget,
we're
doing
that
with
these
investments
from
federal
funds,
we
are
doing
that
in
the
policy
work,
whether
it
be
police
reform,
whether
it
be
supporting
our
young
people
in
schools,
whether
it
be
supporting
small
businesses
and
ensuring
that
we
are
being
intentional
and
laser-like
focus
when
it
comes
to
equity.
