From YouTube: Jackson Square III Infrastructure Project
Description
Mayor Walsh was joined by State Representative Liz Malia, State Senator Sonia Chang-Diaz, Governor Charlie Baker and others to announce 3.4 million dollars worth of Massworks investments in the Jackson Square III Infrastructure Project which will create 144 housing units, pedestrian walkways and bike paths, and a new 3000 square foot community plaza in Jamaica Plain.
A
A
A
The
masterworks
program
is
a
this
year
in
90
million
dollar
round
of
awards
being
made
to
communities
across
a
straight
estate
to
support
economic
development
activities
as
well
as
housing
development
in
community
building,
and
we're
very
pleased
to
be
here
in
Boston
with
our
partners
in
Boston
to
talk
about
another
exciting
award
for
another,
exciting
portion
of
this
very
exciting
project.
So,
overall
statewide
we
had
more
than
114
applications
this
year
for
masterworks
funds
and
were
able
to
award
34.
A
We
had
more
than
285
million
dollars
worth
of
asks.
That's
the
great
news
is
a
lot
of
interest
in
activity
around
the
state
and
economic
development
and
housing
development
activities.
As
I
mentioned,
we
are
awarding
90
million
dollars
in
a
rolling
round,
so
we're
visiting
places
large
and
small
around
the
state.
A
It's
great
to
see
the
work
he
now
does
as
mayor
of
Boston,
and
we
know
on
the
state
level
that
we
have
a
true
partner
in
Boston
and
that
we
have
a
true
leader
in
mayor
Walsh,
who
leads
economic
development
activity
and
gets
us
all
excited
about
all
the
things
that
he's
excited
about.
So,
ladies
and
gentlemen,
mayor
Boston,
Marty,
Walsh.
B
Thank
you
very
much,
Jay
and
I
wonder
why
I
thank
thank
you
as
well
for
his
great
work
as
a
secretary
of
economic
development
for
the
Commonwealth
of
Massachusetts.
Certainly
he's
no
stranger
to
make
a
plane
or
the
city
of
Boston
I
want
to.
Thank
him.
I
also
want
to
thank
crystal
Kony
guy
who's
here
for
her
great
work
around
housing
that
she's
not
in
the
city
of
Boston
and
now
at
the
state
numb
from
whoshere
as
well.
B
Thank
you
na
ma,
I
had
a
long
work
relation
to
eat
nom
before
he
took
over
his
position
with
the
governor
and
now
I
certainly
have
the
same.
We
keep
it
going.
I
also
want
to
thank
the
elected
officials
that
are
here
that
that
I
helped
us
want
representative
Liz
Mallya
I
want
to
thank
Rep,
Lamaya
representative
Jeffrey
Sanchez.
Thank
you
very
seldom
Sanchez
City
Councilman
O'malley
Thank,
You
counsel,
O'malley,
chief
of
Economic
Development,
the
city
of
Boston,
John
Barros.
Thank
you,
John
Barros
I
certainly
want
to
thank
the
governor
as
well
for
his
commitment.
B
Who's
been
a
true
partner,
particularly
are
a
lot
of
issues,
but
around
the
issue
of
housing.
We
spend
many
many
conversations
talking
about
the
importance
of
creating
more
affordable
and
low-income
housing
in
the
city
of
Boston,
but
the
governor,
also
throughout
the
combo.
So
I
want
to
thank
you,
governor
for
your
great
support
here
and
help
I
want
to
just
thank
all
of
the
city
and
state
staff
and
in
as
well
as
the
Jamaica
Plain,
Neighborhood
Development
Corporation
feel
great
work.
These
projects
aren't
easy
to
put
together.
B
I
was
fortunate
enough
to
to
be
the
head
of
the
building
trades
when
this
building,
when
225
was
built
and
understanding
all
the
different
partners
that
went
into
that
project
and
it's
great
to
see
the
communities
of
Jamaica,
Plain
and
Roxbury
come
together
along
with
the
city,
the
state
and
all
the
different
people,
because
putting
these
projects
together
is
not
simple.
You
know
we
have,
as
you
might.
B
Everyone
might
know,
there's
a
little
thing
tomorrow
called
election
day,
but
the
one
thing
I
wish
that
we
spoke
about
more
in
elections,
particularly
on
a
federal
levels,
infrastructure
and
I.
Think
that
we
can
all
agree
to
that.
You
know
the
headlines,
however:
don't
sell
newspapers
so
trying
to
talk
about
infrastructure
is
not
going
to
happen,
but
it's
never
been
more.
What
infrastructure
represents
our
committed
future
working
together?
We
plan
we
invest,
we
build
because
we
believe
we
believe
in
this
community
and
the
potential
in
this
community,
but
all
of
our
communities.
B
B
It's
going
to
create
144
new
housing
units,
including
72,
affordable
apartments
and
2,400
square
feet
of
retail.
This
development
is
great
news
by
itself,
but
there's
more
this
projects
going
to
create
pedestrian
walkways
by
pat's
link,
Jackson
Square
and
the
new
public
road
with
recreation
area,
that's
going
to
include
3,000
square
foot
plaza.
Funding
is
also
going
to
help
us
improve
the
stony
brook
valley,
sewer
pipeline,
which
brings
benefits
well
beyond
this
area.
This
is
the
kind
of
partnership
that
we
need
right
now.
We
need.
B
We
need
to
make
sure
that
the
great
things
that
are
happening
in
Jackson
Square,
literally
great
things,
happen:
Jackson
Square,
we're
going
to
continue
to
move
forward
on
it's
a
focal
point
of
our
JP
rocks
plan
that
we're
discussing
right
now,
working
about
how
do
we
create
opportunities,
so
we
truly
can
have
great
development,
great
infrastructure
and
allow
opportunities
for
everyone.
We
advance
this
ahead
of
our
citywide
plan,
because
we,
this
area
needs,
is
a
need
of
special
attention,
so
this
grant
is
very
timely.
B
We
talk
about
comprehensive
planning,
that's
what
we
envision
to
make
sure
we
meet
the
needs
of
affordable
housing.
Make
sure
that
we
grow
and
have
great
infrastructure
make
sure
that
we
have
open
space
and
healthy
areas
for
the
residents
and
the
people
in
this
neighborhood
and
also
make
sure
we
create
great
good
jobs.
That
means
a
more
thriving
neighborhood
and
enhance
quality
of
life.
B
A
stronger
economy
with
the
opportunity
for
all
I
want
to
thank
all
of
our
state
partners
once
again
for
their
investment
here
and
I
have
the
great
honor
of
introducing
the
governor
of
the
Commonwealth
somebody
who
is
a
partner
somebody
who
truly
does
care
about
our
community.
Somebody
who,
as
I
mentioned
earlier,
will
spend
a
lot
of
time
talking
about
how
do
we
create
more
opportunities
to
create
affordable
housing
for
people?
How
do
we
create
more
opportunity
to
create
jobs
for
people?
How
do
we
leverage
the
mbta?
B
How
do
we
leverage
the
stops
that
we
have
in
the
city
of
Boston?
People
want
to
focus
on
the
negative
all
the
time
about
the
MBTA,
but
there's
a
positive
thing
here.
The
MBTA
is
right
in
this
neighborhood,
so
it's
a
opportunity
for
us
to
help
and
grow
in
and
bring
jobs
to
this
community.
So
without
further
ado,
I
want
to
bring
the
governor
of
the
Commonwealth
of
Massachusetts
Charlie
Baker.
C
C
C
When
we
go
looking
for
people
to
work
in
our
administration,
around
housing
and
economic
development,
we
go
looking
for
people
who
have
experience
in
local
government
jayesh
16
years,
the
city
manager
at
Chelsea,
Carolyn
Kirk,
former
mayor
of
Gloucester,
crystal
core
nagae,
came
from
urban
edge
nonfarm,
who
came
from
viet
aid.
I
got
there.
C
Dealing
with
this
and
the
NGA
said
it's
the
largest
number
of
Governors
they've
ever
gotten
to
sign
off
on
any
particular
piece
of
legislation
ever
and-
and
you
should
know
that
this
has
had
national
implications
and
represented
Sanchez
again.
I
know
this
is
your
neighborhood
and
I?
Know
your
mom's
here
so
I'm
going
to
embarrass
you
in
front
of
her
anyway.
C
By
just
saying
you
know,
there
are
a
lot
of
tough
issues
that
we
deal
with
in
public
life,
and
one
of
the
toughest
of
all
is
health
care
and
I,
give
Jeff
enormous
credit
for
being
willing
to
step
up
and
and
try
and
wrestle
that
one
in
conjunction
with
a
whole
bunch
of
other
folks
to
the
ground
and-
and
he
is
really
a
he's-
a
very
open
door.
Anybody
can
talk
to
him
a
kind
of
guy
and
somebody
who
who
really
knows
how
to
build
bridges
and
in
this
day
and
age.
C
C
Very
much
appreciate
the
work
that
our
men
administration
has
had
the
opportunity
to
do
with
you
and
your
team
and
John
barrows.
It's
always
good
to
see
you
here
as
well.
This
is
a
great
project.
It's
the
fourth,
the
fourth
project,
they're,
probably
going
to
be
several
more
and
the
mayor
already
laid
out.
C
All
that's
going
to
come
from
this
in
terms
of
the
betterments
to
the
area
as
well,
but
this
chance
to
stitch
together,
Jamaica,
Plain
and
Roxbury
through
this
particular
initiative,
which
has
been
an
ongoing
piece
of
work
for
many
people
for
many
years,
is
a
real
tribute
to
the
folks
who
live
and
who
work
here
into
the
collaborative
spirit.
You've
all
brought
to
this.
Thank
you
very
much.
A
So
we've
heard
John
barrows
his
name
a
couple
times.
John
told
me
if
we
here
at
five
times
he's
going
to
buy
me
lunch
afterwards,
so
I
got
to
mentioned
John
a
couple
more
times:
John
barrows,
a
great
guy
and
crystal
Kornegay
and
I,
have
been
blessed
to
be
able
to
work
with
John
Barrow
says
the
five
shillin
illin
and
in
Bryan
golden
the
governor
and
the
mayor
enjoy
a
terrific
working
relationship
and
that
translates
down
to
their
next
in
charge
and
John
and
I.
Sheila
is
in
the
crowd
here.
Brian
crystal
and
I.
A
We
get
together
regularly
Brian's
in
the
back
here.
Thank
you,
Brian
we
get
together
and
focus
on
what's
good
for
Boston.
What's
good
for
Massachusetts
the
nice
thing
about
working
with
the
three
of
them
is
that
while
we
spend
most
of
our
time
talking
about
Boston
crystal
and
I'll
learning
about,
what's
happening
in
Boston,
so
that
we
can
replicate
that
elsewhere
and
may
I
congratulate
you
for
having
a
terrific
staff.
Terrific
group
of
leaders
around
you
who
are
making
a
difference
here,
but
they're
also
helping
us
to
make
a
difference
else
whistle
on
Csilla
Brian.
D
A
Will
unlock
the
third
phase
of
the
Jackson
Square
redevelopment
initiative?
The
grant
award
compliments
7
million
dollars
already
committed
by
the
Commonwealth
of
Massachusetts
in
Jackson
Square.
Over
the
last
seven
years,
the
master
arts
funding
will
be
used
to
leverage
62
point:
six
million
dollars
worth
of
investment
for
two
new
transit
oriented
mixed-use
buildings
in
Jackson
Square,
creating
144
new
housing
units,
including
72,
affordable
apartments
and
2,400
square
feet
of
retail
space.
A
The
two
development
buildings
include:
25
armory,
a
44
unit,
rental
housing
development
serving
low-income
families,
which
sets
aside
for
formerly
homeless
and
special
needs,
households
and
250
center
street.
A
hundred
unit
mixed
100
unit,
mixed
income
rental
development
project,
which
in
29
low-income
units,
71
market-rate
apartments
in
transit,
focused
retail
at
the
front
of
the
site,
we're
actually
sitting
in
the
public
infrastructure
project
that
will
result
in
a
pedestrian,
walkway
and
bike
path
that
will
connect
Jackson
Square
station.
A
new
public
road
and
the
recreation
areas
will
include
3,000
square
feet
of
community
plaza.
A
The
infrastructure
project
will
also
improve
the
existing
stony
brook
valley,
sewer
line,
which
provides
significant
benefits
well
beyond
the
immediate
site.
This
event
highlights
a
neighborhood
that
has
been
in
trance
that
has
been
transformed
through
commonwealth
LED,
investment
in
housing
and
infrastructure,
as
we've
talked
to
members
the
legislature
about
that
investment
we
want
to
make.
A
We
have
been
fortunate
to
have
great
partners
who
have
championed
that
which
we
are
looking
to
achieve
this
past
year,
the
governor
filed
an
economic
development
bill
called
opportunities
for
all
the
opportunities
for
all
bill,
set
out
to
create
programs,
new
programs
and
support
existing
programs
to
allow
for
the
revitalization
of
communities,
the
growth
of
businesses
and
the
prosperity
of
people.
This
project
in
the
master
arts
program
is
Emma,
letak
of
that,
and
we
have
champions
in
the
legislature
who
were
supportive
of
that
effort.
A
D
D
A
E
See
Juan
Diego
over
here
their
paradise
right
mayor
man.
Thank
you.
Thank
you
for
showing
us
that
this
community
is
at
the
top
of
your
list.
You
know
I,
remember
when
you
were
running
you
said:
Jackson
Square
is
going
to
be
on
the
top
of
your
list
and
you
really
meant
it
and
we
really
appreciate
it
because
there's
you
are
getting
pulled
from
every
corner
of
the
city
and
for
you
to
keep
up
a
vision
that
we
worked
on
back
in
1995,
the
jackson
coordinating
group,
Bart
Mitchell
was
there
and
Matt
was
there
Julia
Dougherty?
E
They
works
for
shoes
about
eight
and
her
mother
used
to
drag
her
and
Richard.
All
Richard
thaw
had
a
beautiful
head
of
black
hair
at
the
time,
mostly
cause
of
sure
Bozek
is
around
here
somewhere
the
high
school
I
task
force.
Looking
for
you
know,
poor
ken
penguin
he's
gonna
one
was
in
a
wheelchair
right
now,
look
at
him.
You
know
I
mean
but
imagine,
20
years
ago,
20
years
ago
and
Liz
and
I
mean
this.
There
was
a
vision
that
was
established.
Remember
all
these.
The
idea
that
was
either
coming
here
was.
E
It
was
going
to
be
at
a
recycling
plant
and
then
later
something
about
a
big
box
store
I,
don't
know
what
it
was,
but
because
of
this
community
and
of
course,
crystals
back
there.
She
didn't
want
to
sit
up
front.
Cuz
he's
not
like
that,
because
of
this
vision
that
you
allowed
to
continue
through
your
investment.
We're
going
to
it's
going
to
this
was
the
part
that
everybody
was
concerned
about
and
you
putting
it
on.
E
That
list
really
made
a
difference
and
thank
you
Brian
golden
out
there
too
I'm
and
to
You
governor
thanks
for
keeping
the
to
you
mean
you
came
out
here
more
than
let's
just
say
you
came
out
here
a
lot
I'm
glad
to
say
Mike,
I'm
glad
to
see
my
governor
wears
pink.
You
know
in
this
world
of
red.
He
wears
pink,
it's
you
know,
and
it's
for
me.
It's
the
right
color
for
him
because
he's
you
know
he
he's
somebody
that
embodies.
E
E
Personally,
thank
you
because
I
remember,
you
know
back
in
my
first
job
was
you
know
under
in
government,
was
under
you
know,
Mayor,
Menino
and
I.
Remember
him
say
just
talked
to
him:
just
talked
to
him
and
God
rest,
his
soul.
You
know
he
he
was
the
first
one
to
be
like
you
know.
The
only
way
you
get
them
together
is
they
get
them
to
talk
to
each
other.
First
and
we
did
and
look
at
what
look
at
all
this
I
mean
all
of
us.
E
You
know
we're
looking
at
it
and
off
from
the
back
of
these
buildings,
because
none
of
us
actually
spent
any
time
in
the
back
of
these
buildings
and
look
at
what
you've
created.
So
thank
you
for
for
your
investment,
your
commitment,
everybody
who's,
been
a
part
of
these.
These
meetings,
and
all
this
you
know
from
the
organizing
to
the
building's
the
construction
workers
I
know
that
there's
a
whole
bunch
of
folks
that
are
out
here
from
that
from
the
industry's
the
building
trades,
because
because
of
You
mayor
Walsh,
you
know
having
some
real
conversations.
E
A
So
it
is
true
that
there's
a
little
chelsea
in
a
section
here,
russian
juan
diego,
is
the
assistant
secretary
for
communities
and
development.
Bart,
Mitchell
and
I
first
got
to
know
each
other
around
developments
that
he
was
doing
in
Chelsea
and
very
excited
to
see
what
he
did
over
here.
Bart
I
had
a
tremendous
impact
on
what
happened
in
Chelsea
I
mean
Emily
Loomis's
here,
who
is
now
at
urban
edge,
but
grew
up
grew
of
age
at
the
Chelsea
neighborhood
development
corporation.
So
we
are
sending
our
people
this
way.
A
Jeff
mayor
we're
not
trying
to
take
over
we're
only
trying
to
be
friends.
So
those
of
you
know
the
history
of
chelsea
in
Boston
Chelsea
was
one
spot
of
Boston
for
a
hundred
years
and
I
regret
the
day
that
the
Chelsea
left
waasland
would
have
been
a
good
marriage,
Chelsea
and
Boston
together.
So
I
first
came
over
to
jackson
square.
A
When
the
governor
said
to
me,
you
need
to
get
over
to
jackson
square
and
you
need
to
talk
to
Crystal
corna,
gay
and
I
said
who-
and
he
said,
crystal
Kornegay
you're
going
to
be
very
impressed.
So
I
came
over,
I
talked
to
Cristal,
and
what
I
was
amazed
about
in
talking
with
crystal
was
not
only
the
the
great
personality.
She
is
a
wonderful
person.
A
You
all
know
it
to
be,
but
the
success
and
vision
that
she
had
for
her
work
at
urban
edge
and
what
was
happening
in
this
community,
and
so,
as
we
were
thinking
about
our
next
Undersecretary,
a
person
will
be
in
charge
of
DHCD
in
community
development
and
public
housing
around
the
Commonwealth
was
a
natural
to
ask
crystal
come
on
board
and
I.
Remember
the
day
she
said
yes,
I
was
so
excited,
we
got
up,
and
that
was
the
first
of
many
hugs.
A
The
crystal
and
I
have
she
had
since
then,
but
crystal
I
want
to
congratulate
you
for
all
that
you've
accomplished
in
this
neighborhood
and
thank
you
for
helping
to
spread
the
good
news
about
Jackson
Square
about
the
city
of
austin,
about
urban
edge,
but
mostly
about
crystal
Kornegay
throughout
the
Commonwealth
crystal.
Thank
you
for
you,
your
work.
A
F
She's
got
to
really
pull
that
microphone
down,
sir.
You
go
after
secretary
ash
I'm
good
morning,
everyone
better
late
than
never
I'm
sorry
I'm
a
little
late
getting
here,
but
not
a
reflection
at
all
about
my
enthusiasm
for
this
grant
and
for
this
project
overall
I
know
probably
folks
have
been
thanked
before
me,
although
I
want
to
give
a
special
shout-out
to
Sheila
Dillon,
where
Sheila
and
thank
you
so
much
for
your
ongoing
work
for
this
community
and
by
extension
to
the
mayor,
obviously
to
the
administration
governor.
F
F
Both
retrospectively
and
prospectively
to
the
Jackson
Square
partners
for
making
this
a
reality
in
our
community
and
not
just
a
physical
reality
in
terms
of
you,
know,
growth
of
structures
that
are
growing
up,
but
a
reality
in
the
people
and
the
families
that
this
project
has
helped
build
up,
and
it's
going
to
continue
to
help
build
up
and
the
wealth
that
it
is
going
to
grow
in
our
communities
and
by
cycling.
Those
dollars
right
back
into
the
families
that
live,
work,
eat
sleep,
breathe,
pray
play
together
here
at
the
crossroads
of
Jamaica
Plain
in
Roxbury.
A
Thank
You
senator
so
the
way
that
the
masterworks
program
works
is
that
the
municipality
submits
an
application
and
we
get
a
application
from
boston.
Mayor
talks
to
the
governor
and
then
Brian
golden
calls
me
and
Sheila.
Dillon
calls
me
and
then
joined.
Barrows
calls
me
that's
the
sixth
on
John,
that's
for
dessert
afterwards
and
we're
already
there.
You
know
we're
already
there.
G
Thank
You
Jay
well
on
behalf
of
jpn
DC
and
our
long-standing
and
sometimes
I,
think
long-suffering
partners
at
the
community
builders
at
the
hyde
square
task
force
at
urban
edge
were
delighted
that
you're
here
and
we're
thrilled
with
this
news.
That's
really
going
to
be
in
another
important
milestone
in
advancing
this
crossroads.
Neighborhood,
you
know
in
the
land
there
were
a
lot
of
people
of
the
years.
Who
said
you
know
who
just
didn't
think
anything
was
going
to
happen
here.
G
I
was
just
going
to
be
a
lot
of
talk,
but
in
the
last
three
years
has
been
tremendous
progress
with
a
couple
of
great
new
mixed-use
projects.
A
lot
of
you
are
familiar
with
225
center
street
that
community
builders
opened
a
couple
of
years
gone
last
year
on
columbus
ave
with
the
opening
of
jackson
commons,
which
is
a
great
mixed-use
project.
Those
have
those
have
made
a
big
difference
in
the
neighborhood
and
and
here
at
them,
75a
Murray
Avenue.
The
construction
is
going
to
be
finished
by
the
end
of
the
year
in
January.
D
G
You
know
sometimes
I'm
ashamed
to
admit
it,
but
one
of
my
childhood
heroes
was
Howard
Cosell
and
some
of
you
who
are
old
enough
to
remember
you
know
sometimes
in
the
heat
of
the
excitement
of
a
football
game,
you
might
talk
about
momentum,
the
12th
player
on
the
field.
Well,
what's
exciting
about
this.
Is
this
really
is
another
shot
of
momentum?
G
That,
as
just
as
we're
finishing
up
this
great
project
and
urban
edge,
is
making
a
lot
of
tremendous
progress
in
the
last
year,
and
especially
the
last
six
months
with
the
the
rec
center
at
the
corner
of
columbus
ave
when
that
stuff
is
happening
now,
this
is
going
to
unleash
tremendous
activity
that
that
secretary
ash
has
already
described
very
well
with
the
plaza
and
the
greenway
and
two
buildings
and
homes
for
almost
150
families.
So
it's
a
great
thing,
but
before
I
go
any
further,
this
is.
G
G
It's
a
great
crew,
it's
a
phenomenal
crew,
and
you
know
it's
also
significant
and
exciting
that
some
of
the
joining
property
owners
are
actively
advancing
projects
and
have
things
on
the
drawing
board
that
we
think
are
going
to
add,
probably
between
200,000
and
300,000
square
feet
of
new
commercial
and
office
space
in
this
neighborhood.
So
that's
another
big
push
forward
and
right
behind
and
we
were
showing
this
to
the
governor
and
secretary
ash,
but
working
with
the
Boston
Housing
Authority
jpn
DC,
the
community
builders
and
urban
edge.
G
You
know,
failed
urban
renewal
policies,
this
totally
misguided
plan
that
tore
up
the
neighborhood
for
the
superhighway,
but
now
with
with
the
incredible
dedication
of
so
many
people
in
this
neighborhood
and
and
committed
elected
officials
and
dynamic
community
organizations
and
an
engaged
and
very
committed
public
sector,
we're
making
great
progress
and
there's
no
stopping
us.
So
thank
you
for
being
here
today.
