From YouTube: Foumami Re-opening Ceremony
Description
Join in to celebrate the reopening of Foumami, a small restaurant in the Financial District. Speakers such as Mayor Janey, distinguished members of MA government, and Michael Wang, Foumami's restaurant owner, discuss the effects of COVID-19 on the restaurant industry and encourage normalcy back in Boston dining.
A
Thank
you
everyone
for
coming
out
today
and
showing
your
support
behind
me
is
a
fumami.
It's
an
asian
sandwich
bar
that
I
alright.
So
let
me
take
off
my
mask
sorry
about
that.
Behind
me
is
a
fumami.
It's
an
asian
sandwich
bar
that
I
launched
here
in
july
of
2010
we've
been
serving
for
the
past
10
years,
we've
been
serving
scratch,
cooked,
very
delicious
scratch,
cooked
breakfast
and
lunch
in
the
neighborhood,
we're
notably
known
for
our
shelving
sandwiches.
That's
you
know
with
the
bread,
that's
made
by
hand.
A
So
if
you
have
never
had
a
shelving
sandwich,
you're
really
missing
out,
so
you
should
make
a
point
to
come
and
and
give
it
a
try.
Last
year
has
been
challenging
for
all
of
us
and
stopped
many
people's
plans
for
the
future,
and
it's
been
the
same
for
fumami.
A
I'm
very,
very
grateful
that
today
this
day
has
come
and
that
fumami
has
been
able
to
hopefully
make
it
to
the
end
of
the
past.
You
know
to
the
end
of
the
difficulties
of
the
past
17
months.
A
I'm
very
hopeful
that
today
marks
a
turning
point
not
only
for
fumami
but
for
the
financial
district.
This
neighborhood
as
a
whole
as
it
starts
to
show
life
coming
back.
Thank
you,
mayor
kim
janey.
American
janie
is
here
today
to
help
us
celebrate.
I'm
very
honored
that
she's
here
and
the
mayor
has
a
few
words
that
she
like
to
say.
B
Thank
you
so
much
michael,
and
I
want
to
just
start
by
acknowledging
a
few
folks
who
are
here.
I
am
joined
by
bob
lutz,
who
is
leads.
B
The
mass
restaurant
association,
who
has
been
doing
incredible,
work
to
support
restaurants,
just
like
yours,
michael
not
just
with
this
pandemic,
but
always
but
especially
during
the
pandemic,
also
joined
by
representative
aaron,
michael
witz,
who
represents
this
area,
who
is
a
fierce
leader
and
champion
certainly
of
small
businesses,
also
is
very
active,
very,
very
active
in
his
district,
and
I
am
grateful
to
have
him
as
a
partner
in
this
work,
not
only
as
he
is
the
chair
of
the
ways
and
means
committee
and
the
support
that
he
has
given
to
the
city
of
boston,
but
just
his
partnership
as
he
does
an
amazing
job.
B
Every
single
day
was
grateful
to
be
with
you
in
the
north
end
last
night,
I'm
also
joined
by
my
chief
of
economic
development,
chief
midori
morikawa,
who
is
here.
Thank
you
so
much
for
your
leadership
and
and
michael
again.
I
just
want
to
praise
you
and
and
celebrate
you
for
your
resilience
and
getting
here.
We
know
that
this
pandemic
has
been
extremely
hard
and
to
have
a
small
business
owner
open
up
their
doors
and
and
be
a
successful
restaurant
for
10
years
only
to
have
to
shut
down
for
17
months.
B
I
think,
underscores
the
importance
of
the
work
that
we
are
doing
all
together,
working
with
our
small
business
owners
working
with
our
state
partners,
to
make
sure
that
our
small
businesses,
but
our
restaurants
in
particular,
can
get
through
this
pandemic
and
get
to
a
place
where
we
are
seeing
that
robust
vibrancy
here
in
the
fight
financial
district.
But
all
over
your
story
really
illustrates
the
importance
of
the
partnerships.
B
I
am
grateful
that
the
city
of
boston
has
been
able
to
offer
support
of
6
500
thus
far,
but
there
is
more
that
we
want
to
continue
to
do.
We
want
to
make
sure,
particularly
with
our
restaurants,
who
are
part
of
the
hospitality
industry,
and
we
know
that
that
industry
is
the
third
largest
industry
in
the
city
of
boston
and
has
been
extremely
hard
hit
by
the
pandemic,
that
we
are
doing
more.
B
Fortunately,
michael
has
been
able
to
bring
a
good
team
in
place
here
and
it
smells
delightful
in
there
if
you've
never
been
to
fumami.
I
encourage
you
to
try
their
delicious
food,
but
the
city
of
boston
is
offering
based
on
that
meeting,
that
roundtable
discussion
where
restaurant
owners
were
telling
us
what
they
need.
We
are
offering
recruitment
and
retention
bonuses,
and
so
I
mentioned
that
to
you
inside,
and
I
certainly
hope
that
you
take
advantage
of
that.
B
This
pandemic,
unfortunately,
is
still
with
us,
and
we
need
to
do
everything
possible
to
protect
the
residents
of
boston,
to
make
sure
that
our
recovery,
reopening
and
renewal
is
focused
on
our
business
owners
focused
on
our
workers,
and
that
is
why
we
continue
to
be
a
laser-like
focus
on
the
equitable
access
and
opportunity
to
get
vaccinated
all
throughout
the
city
of
boston.
The
vaccine
continues
to
be
our
best
shot
of
hope,
not
to
go
back
to
a
normal.
B
A
normal
where
we
have
too
many
inequities
in
our
city,
but
to
go
better
to
make
sure
that
we
are
creating
a
stronger
boston
and
a
boston
that
is
more
equitable,
just
and
resilient.
I
want
to
also
acknowledge
shagan
wu,
who
is
here
who
leads
beckma,
who
has
been
a
big
champion
of
small
businesses.
B
So
I
appreciate
everyone
who
has
come
to
celebrate
this
important
day
and
I
want
to
now
pass
the
mic
over
to
a
champion
again,
someone
who
is
very
active
in
his
district,
who
has
been
leading
the
way
on
so
many
fronts,
whether
it
is
supporting
small
business,
whether
it
is
making
sure
that
we
have
access
to
the
vaccine,
whether
it
is
basic,
supports
and
services.
B
C
Thank
you,
madam
mayor,
stay
away
from
these
balloons.
Yeah
right
I
mean
I
want
to
thank
bob
for
holding
the
making
sure
that
the
balloons
don't
hit
us
in
the
head.
Thank
you
bob.
This
is
a
great
day
and
I
appreciate
the
opportunity
to
be
here
to
celebrate
with
you,
michael,
the
the
reopening
of
fumami.
It's
it's
a
signal
once
another
signal
that
the
financial
district
is
coming
back.
C
We
are
coming
back
in
full
spades
here
and
you
know,
hopefully,
by
the
end
of
the
summer,
we
will
be
even
more
so
you
know,
and
that
and
the
fact
you'll
be
those
lines
that
you're
seeing
right
now
will
get
even
longer
for
you
and
for
all
the
all
the
small
businesses
that
are
here
that
make
up.
I
mean,
even
though
everyone
thinks
we're
in
the
financial
district,
and
everyone
thinks
about
the
tall
buildings
that
we
have.
C
We
have
a
lot
of
small
businesses
that
are
that
are
trying
to
survive
that
have
been
trying
to
work
it
through
and
today's
a
celebration
of
perseverance.
You
know
I
mean
michael,
had
to
persevere.
You
know,
day
in
and
day
out,
to
survive
and
the
city
of
boston,
the
state,
the
commonwealth,
massachusetts,
the
federal
government.
We
all
were
able
to
step
up
and
provide
resources
for
restaurants
to
be
able
to
to
persevere.
C
Some
didn't
make
it
and
you
know
michael's
michael's,
a
testament
to
the
hard
work
and
the
the
dedication
that
he
he
provided
to
his
business
and
to
his
employers.
C
Employees
excuse
me,
and
so
I
think
we
are
you
know
we
are
celebrating
here
today
and
I
think
I
want
to
thank
you,
madam
mayor,
for
all
the
work
that
that
you've
been
doing
and
helping
bringing
us
back
in
an
equitable
way
and-
and
I
look
forward
to
the
continued
partnership
that
we've
been
having
on
this
being
a
state
representative.
I
bring
citations.
I
mean
that's
what
I
do
so.
C
I
brought
you
michael,
a
citation
from
you
and
it's
actually
on
behalf
of
the
speaker
ron,
mariano
on
fumami,
in
recognition
of
your
grand
reopening
following
the
extended
pandemic
closure,
given
this
fourth
day
of
august
2021
offered
by
the
speaker
of
the
house
ron,
mariano
and
myself,
state
representative
aaron
mike
woods.
So,
thank
you
michael
once.
C
I
guess
I
will
turn
it
over
next
to
another
champion
of
the
restaurant
industry
and
someone
who
I've
had
the
privilege
to
work
with
over
the
last
set
over
the
last
couple
of
years,
but
in
particular
the
last
17
months
hand.
You
know
literally
every
day
trying
to
make
sure
that
restaurants
are
on
the
forefront
of
people's
minds
and
conversations
when
we
were
dealing
with
the
pandemic
and
the
destruction
that
took
place
with
a
lot
of
our
small
businesses.
C
Bob
you've
been
a
wonderful
partner
in
that
sense,
and
I
again
I
also
look
forward
to
our
continued
partnership
in
trying
to
make
sure
that
we
bring
this
industry
back
in
a
stronger
way.
As
best
we
possibly
can
so.
Bob
lutz
from
the
massachusetts
restaurant
association.
D
In
addition
to
heading
up
the
massachusetts
restaurant
association,
I
am
the
chief
balloon
holder,
so
first
of
all,
mayor,
janie
representative,
michael
witz,
on
behalf
of
the
entire
restaurant
community,
not
just
here
in
boston
but
across
the
state.
We
can't
thank
the
legislature,
the
cities
and
especially
boston
for
all
the
work
they
did
and
all
the
efforts
they
put
forth
to
make
certain
that
restaurateurs,
who
are
the
backbone
of
every
community,
certainly
across
boston
in
every
community,
that
in
every
neighborhood
that
we
serve
they're
the
backbone
they're.
D
The
gathering
spot
and
they've
been
the
hardest
hit
through
this
whole
pandemic,
and
we
certainly
appreciate
all
the
help
that
we've
gotten
from
beacon
hill
and
from
city
hall,
because
without
all
of
your
efforts,
many
more
restaurants
would
not
have
made
it
through
this
and
and,
as
you
know,
the
numbers
are
tragic
and
we've
suffered
great
losses.
Michael,
congratulations.
D
You
know
it.
It
is
important
because
this
is
a
beacon
of
hope.
As
we
come
into
september.
You
know
at
the
end
of
the
end
of
the
summer,
sadly,
is
upon
us.
We
expect
a
lot
more
workers
to
be
returning
here
over
the
coming
weeks,
hopefully
not
months
and
bring
a
vibrancy
back.
I
can
remember
on
march
15th,
when
the
lieutenant
governor
called
me
and
and
told
me,
we
were
going
to
be
shutting
down
in
two
days.
We
said
the
city
of
boston
is
going
to
be
the
most
affected
city.
D
Through
this
whole
thing,
never
in
any
of
our
wildest
dreams
do
we
think
it
would
be
17
months.
We'd
still
be
saying
that
same
thing
that
has
been
true
and
throughout
the
whole
thing
we
worked
hard
to
make
sure
that
every
operator
understood
what
they
needed
to
do
to
come
back
to
this
point,
we
worked
with
our
partners
in
government
to
get
them
aid
to
help
them
and
michael
today,
you're
offering
a
beacon
I
can
remember
driving
through
here
on.
I
think
it
was
june
16th
or
17th.
D
I
was
coming
to
a
dinner.
I
went
through
every
neighborhood
as
I
came
in,
and
it
was
like
walking
through
will
smith's.
I
am
legend.
Every
every
intersection
looked
like
the
apocalypse.
There
was
nobody
here
and
today
we
see
more
and
more
people
when
I
walked
up
here
to
see
lines
at
the
restaurant
spots
was
great
and
you
know
we're
going
to
continue
to
get
through
this.
D
You
know
everybody's
got
to
get
vaccinated.
That's
the
only
story
here
today,
we're
doing
our
part
massachusetts
and
it's
exciting
to
see
the
rebirth
of
restaurants
like
this
11
years.
This
gentleman's
been
here
and
it's
it's
really
exciting-
to
see
him
coming
back
and
it's
really
important
for
every
neighborhood
and
every
opportunity
across
boston,
because
restaurants
offer
the
opportunity
to
come
in
for
and
we're
the
number
one
from
an
entrepreneurial
standpoint.
D
No
industry
has
more
folks
of
color
of
women-owned
businesses
than
restaurants
and
so
offering
that
level
of
opportunity
to
all
of
the
residents
of
massachusetts.
All
of
the
I'm
sorry
boston,
all
the
residents
of
massachusetts
is
really
important,
and
so
we're
excited
to
see
this
we're
looking
forward
to
working
with
everybody,
and
we
all
know,
as
I
know,
mayor
jane,
jenny
knows
and
and
representative
knows
we're
not
through
this.
Yet
we've
got
a
long
way
to
go.
Recovery
is
not
weeks
away.
D
A
A
I
just
want
to.
I
just
wanted
to
say
something:
this
is
a
shaw
demaio,
and
this
is
so
they're
with
the
oxford
properties
so
they're,
my
landlord,
so
I
just
wanted
to
recognize
them
because
they're,
the
best
landlord
they've
always
been
very
supportive
of
me,
especially
so
during
the
pandemic,
and
it's
really
because
of
oxford
that
I'm
able
to
reopen
without
their
support
this
day
would
not
have
come.
So
I'm
very
very
grateful-
and
I
just
wanted
to.
