Description
The New Engine 42 will be the first fire station built in the City of Boston in over 30 years. The Project consists of demolition of the existing fire station and construction of a new fire station located at 1870 Columbus Avenue, Roxbury, MA. The new 24,000 sq/ft fire station will be two stories high with a penthouse for mechanical equipment. Construction will start in September of 2019 with an anticipated November 2020 completion.
A
A
I'd
like
to
on
behalf
of
the
Boston
Fire
Department,
welcome
you
to
a
historic,
isn't
that
this
wouldn't
happen.
It
wasn't
for
our
mere
was
invested
time
and
effort
to
improving
our
public
safety,
especially
our
fire
department.
So
I
know
you
don't
want
to
hear
from
me
so
without
further
ado.
Welcome
to
mere
Walsh.
B
I
want
to
take
you
Brian
elastic
Commission
of
Finn
I
want
to
thank
what
was
7:18
Barbra
Dede
I
want
to
thank
all
of
the
past
and
present
members
of
engine
42
rescued
Chu
and
jiseok
night.
I
want
to
thank
the
whole
team.
Everyone
involved
in
making
this
new
firehouse
or
reality
there's
been
a
lot
of
city
involvement
in
it.
B
In
some
ways,
it's
a
celebration
in
other
ways.
It's
a
real
big
problem
that
this
hasn't
happened
before
today,
when
it's
complete
this
projects
going
to
be
twenty
three
point:
five
million
dollars
will
house
to
house
company
is
also
a
district
chief
for
the
past
three
years.
The
fire
department,
along
with
the
true
Joe's
leadership,
has
been
working
with
public
facilities
to
study
best
practices
for
house
design.
Many
of
those
best
practices
are
reflected
here
and
Joe
is
going
to
talk
a
little
bit
about
that.
B
You
know
as
a
city
when
you
think
about
when
we
think
about
firefighting.
100
years
ago
it
was
putting
a
built,
a
burning
building
out
in
saving
somebody's
life.
Today
it's
changed
as
a
city.
We
want
to
make
sure
and
we're
doing
it
here
today
support
the
health
and
wellness
and
safety
of
those
who
do
the
same
for
us
every
single
day,
this
new
fire
station
will
have
some
of
the
new
latest
and
most
innovative
ways
that
were
protecting
firefighters
and
again
I'm
gonna.
Let
Joe
talk
about
that.
B
This
has
been
raised
at
a
national
level
as
well
we're
making
changes
to
our
equipment
design
because
of
the
leadership
here
in
Boston
and
around
the
country.
If
you
talk
to
other
places,
they're
doing
the
same
oftentimes
all
the
time,
firehouse
is
a
second
home
to
our
firefighters,
so
this
new
station
will
also
include
a
new
fitness
center
kitchen
and
other
amenities
to
help
improve
the
quality
of
life.
B
It'll
also
have
a
training
room
for
technical
rescue
companies
and
will
allow
them
to
stay
up
to
date
on
their
training
right
here
in
the
firehouse
or
close
to
home.
I'm
gonna
tell
you
a
funny
story:
I
was
talking
to
Joe,
but
the
design,
the
fire
houses
and
we're
going
over
it
one
day
and
I
was
pointing
something
out
and
I'm
like
boy.
It's
at
that's
the
fitness
room.
I
said
Joe.
We
can't
have
a
fitness
room
with
firehouse.
B
He
said
we
need
the
fitness
room,
the
father
Joe,
you
know
the
public
will
say
the
fitness
over
the
finals
is
like
putting
the
gym
in
City
Hall.
He
goes
it's
a
lot
different.
A
month
later,
I
was
at
the
US
Conference
of
Mayors
here
in
Boston,
and
we
think
they
had
the
the
simulator
of
the
with
the
fire
and
when
I
got
there.
In
the
morning,
I
put
on
my
pants
put
on
my
get
my
jacket
put
on
the
mass
put
on
the
sky,
put
on
the
helmet
put
on
the
oxygen
tank.
B
Put
the
oxygen
tank
on
turn.
The
oxygen
tank
on
went
into
the
trailer
and
realize
when
I
got
out
of
that
trailer
whenever
they
came
off
how
wide
I
felt
and
thinking
about
a
firefighter
with
almost
70
pounds
of
equipment
on
his
or
her
body
go
into
a
burning
building
and
I
went
into
a
place
where
I
knew
where
I
was
going.
I
was
told
to
stay
against
the
wall
and
stay
down.
I
never
see
enjoyed
the
Klan
to
that
day
and
I
said
Joe.
B
The
fitness
room
was
the
same
because
of
the
impact
that
this
job
has
on
the
firefighters
that
I
hear
your
body's
in
the
retirees
that
are
here.
The
wear
and
tear
of
your
bodies
and
I
want
to
thank
you
for
your
service.
In
addition,
here,
this
party
is
going
to
include
a
piece
of
permanent
public
art
outside
there's
new
building,
it's
funded
by
our
new
program
percent
for
the
Arts
program,
dedicating
one
percent
of
our
capital,
borrowing
to
permanent
public
art.
B
As
all
of
us
know,
Papa
Ghana
is
a
special
way
of
bringing
people
together,
reflecting
the
community
that
we
are
in
and
that
this
firehouse
is
gonna,
be
it's
going
to
be
in
where
the
announcing
the
art
is
pretty
soon.
Engine
42
servings
example
for
improvements
that
we
want
to
bring
to
all
of
our
fire
stations.
This
is
the
first
of
many
groundbreakings
that
we're
gonna
have
in
the
city
of
Boston
again
I
want
to
thank
our
firefighters
for
your
commitment
to
our
city.
C
Thank
playing
I'd
like
to
take
a
little
minute
point
of
personal
privilege
and
thank
all
the
retirees
who
came
today.
We
got
a
former
captain,
Jill
Gill
Mo's
with
us
today:
district
chief
Freddie
Sullivan,
senator
Richie
Walsh
Frannie
backs
to
the
legend,
as
he
listened
breeze
to
Denis
McNally,
Paul
Cummington
and
they
hope
I
didn't
miss
anybody
in
the
back
off
Mattie,
Henrickson
and
so
on.
I
just
wanna
say
thanks
for
coming
out,
because
it's
truly
a
great
day
for
us
as
an
apartment.
C
You
know
it's.
The
first
buy
a
house
over
30
years
to
be
built
by
the
city,
while
I
work
went
into
planning,
designing
this
firehouse
and
we
try
to
incorporate
all
those
latest
designs
in
it.
But
let
me
tell
you
nothing:
when
I
got
done,
we
didn't
have
the
full
support
of
the
men
when
you
think
about
it.
The
man
in
five
years
has
committed
over
a
hundred
million
dollars
in
capital
resources
to
the
blosum
fire
department.
We
didn't
see
that
type
of
investment,
mr.
C
baumann
for
25
years
prior
and
so
mayor,
Walsh
I,
want
to
say
thank
you
for
your
commitment
to
firefighters,
commitment
to
help
Alma's
commitment
to
the
apparatus.
When
you
look
at
the
apparatus
come
probably
less
than
two
weeks
we've
taken
BC
to
five
ladder
trucks
very
shortly
this
week
and
that
will
replace
you
tie
a
ladder
compliment
with
the
boss
and
fight
upon
I.
Don't
think
that
has
ever
been
done
in
the
history
of
an
administration
and
we're
gonna
have
twenty
six
about
thirty
three
engine
companies
will
been
replaced
come
this
fiscal
year.
C
So
a
level
of
commitment
here
from
the
mayor
in
the
city
has
been
fabulous
and
we
certainly
all
magnetic
gratitude
I'd
like
to
thank
any
handy
and
the
chief
administration
of
Finance
also
just
the
stem.
It
was
with
a
stay
at
a
budget
director
and
his
team
from
capital,
because
without
that,
let's
be
honest,
he
can't
get
it
done
without
the
money.
So
without
them
people
we
certainly
wouldn't
have
what
we
have
going
forward
today.
C
I'd
also
like
to
thank
public
facilities,
Trish
Lyons
and
her
team
Scott
to
free
every
Brinkman,
Paul
Donnelly,
Brian
McLaughlin,
our
architectural
firm
door
and
Whittier,
the
team
of
the
Boston
Fire
Department
chief
operations,
Jackie
Walsh,
Deputy,
Commissioner,
Kathleen,
judge
district
chief.
Why
we
dialing,
who
spent
countless
hours
prepping
this?
This
is
his
house,
he's
a
district
chief
in
the
south
and
he's
giving
his
time
to
work
in
helping
us
design
fire
houses,
Santa
Paul
flower,
tea
and
Joe
male
head
about
public
facilities.
C
C
It
was
established
at
February,
10
1893
and
worked
right
out
of
a
firehouse
right
up
on
the
client
again
at
3:30,
89,
Washington,
Street
and
angles
the
square
they
resided
there
for
59
years
before
moving
to
this
coming
location,
eighteen,
seventy
kilometers
south
on
December,
19
1952
was
67
years,
eight
years
long
in
the
first
location,
so
about
eight
years
behind
schedule,
getting
42
in
a
new
house
for
42
moved
in
here.
They
moved
in
here
with
louder
30.
Their
partner
up
on
Washington,
Street
Vlada
thoroughly
was
originally
quartered
here
with
them.
They
moved
in.
C
On
the
same
day,
latter
30
was
established
on
March
5th
1913.
It
was
house,
as
I've
said
up
at
3089,
Washington
Street,
it
moved
in.
On
that
day,
it
was
disbanded
on
April
10th
1981
during
proposition
two-and-a-half
division,
three
which
no
longer
exists,
was
remembered
to
be
Division
two
and
moved
from
grow.
C
All
to
engine
42
squatters
on
March,
31st,
1954,
division
to
move
from
this
August
engine,
20
H
new
house,
they
muscled
out
district
9
for
the
new
elves
truth,
be
told
their
job
ready
and
they
took
all
the
way
we're
supposed
to
be
district.
9,
squatters
and
district
maggots
sent
here
a
little
internalized
squabble
if
you
will,
and
they
were
relocated
here
at
December,
8
1984
and
then
the
same
day.
C
Engine
Latta
30
was
disbanded,
rescue
tool
moved
in
on
the
same
day
and
rescue
tool
resided
here
until
it
was
disbanded,
On,
January,
14
1982
again
because
of
proposition
two-and-a-half
rescue
tool
was
reorganized
on
June,
6,
1986
and
quieted
at
this
site,
where
it
commonly
resides
as
I
mention
we're.
Building
this
new
firehouse,
the
average
age
of
Plaza
576
years
old,
there
hasn't
been
a
new
fight.
I
was
put
by
the
city
since
1984.
C
Again,
it's
hard
to
believe.
The
neglect
that
went
in
I
was
ignored
to
these
fire
houses,
a
firefighters
and
citizens
to
serve
a
firehouse
that
are
modern
and
updated
to
manage
and
meet
the
needs
and
demands
of
today's
fighters,
rebels
and
the
global
environment.
We
now
work
in
one
of
the
Singh
is
initiative
I've,
yet
focused
on
since
become
the
Commissioner
has
been
the
safety,
health
and
wellness
of
our
members.
I,
don't
have
to
tell
you
the
numbers.
It's
astonishing.
C
C
So
what
to
look
forward
to
here,
forty
to
rescue,
two
or
nine
design
incorporates
the
latest
methods.
The
detective
Boston,
firefighters,
from
the
carcinogenic,
carcinogenic
toxins
by
contemned
containing
the
carcinogens
and
toxins
on
the
operators,
apparatus,
Bay
Area,
to
be
a
decontamination
zone
on
the
main
floor
that
would
be
the
hot
zone.
No
gear
will
go
upstairs.
No
toxins
will
permeate
beyond
that
main
floor.
C
They'll
have
its
own
separate,
indistinct,
heating
and
ventilation
systems
on
the
main
floor
in
the
transitional
area,
which
is
called
the
yellow
out
of
the
warm
zone
and
then
the
coals
on.
So
we're
going
to
have
three
different
mechanical
systems
in
this
building.
To
make
sure
we
suppress
those
toxins
and
carcinogens
from
ever
migrating
to
the
living
space
in
this
firehouse,
which
will
improve
health
and
wellness
for
firefighters.
A
significant
investment
I
have
to
thank
mayor
Walsh,
because
that
was
no
easy
task.
C
The
apparatus
Bay
is
going
to
be
extended.
The
department
is
the
mayor
said,
has
changed
dramatically.
It's
no
longer
just
a
fire
service,
a
fire
department,
it's
multi-functional,
a
technical
rescue
component,
which
is
house,
is
a
crucial
tool.
Well
now
have
the
ability
to
store
all
our
technical
rescue
equipment
in
this
firehouse,
but
I
would
happen
to
spread
out
different
firehouse
across
the
city,
which
will
make
them
much
more
efficient
on
the
on
the
response
and
much
more
efficient
when
they
have
to
execute
on
those
technical
rescue
incidents.
C
C
As
you
can
see,
we
have
finally
bring
our
five
houses
up
to
date
with
the
latest
in
the
state-of-the-art
firehouse
design
and
technology,
the
overall
health
and
wellness
and
safety.
Our
members
is
that
number
one
priority
our
firefighters
in
the
city
deserve
no
less.
All
this
is
made
possible
with
the
man,
the
city
support
again
Manor.
Thank
you.
Your
unwavering
commitment
over
the
last
five
years
to
improve
the
infrastructure,
the
Boston
Fire
Department,
is
unprecedented
again
just
want
to
say
thank
you.
Thank
you
to
everybody
who
come
and
for
the
community.
C
D
Hello,
everyone
thank
you
for
coming.
I
just
want
to
recognize
mayor
Walsh
for
his
continued
to
support
investing
in
the
future
of
the
Boston
Fire
Department.
We
hadn't
had
investment
like
that
and
quite
some
time,
and
really
appreciate
the
support,
also
Commissioner
for
Finn,
for
his
he's.
Putting
me
keep
the
chances
that
we're
coming
down
with
on
a
regular
basis,
bringing
that
to
the
forefront
so
that
we're
getting
the
treatment
and
prevention
that
that
is
needed
also
in
the
crowd
today.
I
as
as
I
said,
I.
D
D
This
was
the
original
house
that
I
was
assigned
to
over
22
years
ago.
They've
been
a
lot
of
great
firefighters
that
worked
out
of
this
house
during
my
time
here.
Many
who
are
no
longer
with
us
I'd
like
to
ask
just
for
a
moment
of
silence
for
the
formal
members
who
never
made
it
to
every
time
and
take
Murphy
whose
son
Billy
is
actually
the
lieutenant
now
on
group
2
here
in
Denton
42,
dick
Betsy,
Billy
McAfee.
D
B
Just
want
to
as
Barbies
want
us
now,
I
didn't
see
him
Ritchie
Paris
is
here,
I
want
a
quiz.
Ritchie
I
want
to
take
Ritchie
when
I
got
elected
mayor
the
city,
but
she
came
into
me
right
off
the
bat.
He
had
a
list
about
17
pages
long.
He
talked
about
apparatus,
he
had
talked
about
equipment
he
talking
about
the
contract.
He
was
talking
about
new
fire
houses.
B
He
was
talking
about
a
bunch
of
different
different
items
that
he
wanted
to
fix,
so
the
men
and
women
that
he
represented
were
taken
care
of
and
I
want
to
thank
Ritchie
for
those
meetings
and
those
conversations
and
they
weren't
always
always
pleasant,
but
they
always
tend
not
good.
I
want
to
take
Ritchie
parents.
Special,
shout
I,
didn't
see
you
early
I
would
have
mentioned
yours.
Thank
you.
I.
