From YouTube: Partnering with Massport for East Boston
Description
Mayor Martin J. Walsh and the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) announced new commitments to the residents of East Boston, including Phase II of Piers Park on Boston Harbor, additional funding for the East Boston Foundation, operational funding for a new senior center for East Boston residents, and a traffic study to help mitigate congestion on Neptune Road.
A
A
So
we
were
trying
to
think
of
a
special
way
to
commemorate
the
significance
of
today.
So
we
we
asked
a
number
of
the
people
who
were
involved
in
working
on
the
community
commitments
to
sign
this
poster.
That
says,
oh
two,
one
two
eight
and
then
everybody
at
their
place
has
a
mug
which
is
for
you
to
take
home.
If
you
so
choose.
A
So
you
know
we
thought
that
was
a
great
symbol
of
East
Boston
and
the
unity
of
East
Boston.
Then
everybody
is
together
under
one.
Thank
you
under
one
zip
code
that
celebrates
the
history
of
East
Boston
as
a
welcoming
community
for
the
Irish,
a
welcoming
community
for
Italian
Americans,
a
welcoming
community
for
people
from
Latin
America.
So
that's
a
great
kind
of
symbol
of
how
people
in
East
Boston
welcome
the
next
generation
and
build
a
stronger
East
Boston.
So
we
thought
that
was
a
good
way
to
recognize.
A
What's
been
done
over
the
years
by
this
great
community.
So
for
those
who
don't
know,
I'm
Tom
Glynn
I'm,
the
CEO
of
Massport
I'm
gonna,
be
the
master
of
ceremonies
today.
I
just
want
to
explain.
You
know
we're
here
today
to
celebrate
a
great
success,
a
great
commitment
and
respect
for
different
parties.
So
this
is
a
great
example.
You'll
hear
from
the
mayor,
what
happens
when
community
and
government
work
together
in
state
and
local
and
elected
and
executive?
A
So
we
have
a
lot
to
be
to
be
thankful
for,
in
this
collaboration,
with
a
lot
of
folks
pitching
in
to
produce
a
great
success
for
the
East
Boston
community.
Not
the
the
centerpiece
today
obviously
is
Pierce
Park
too.
So,
as
you
see
over
my
left
shoulder
what
will
become
Piers
Park
after
a
planning
process
led
by
Mary
Berninger,
whom
everybody
here
knows.
Maybe
we'll
have
a
little
round
of
applause
for
Mary,
since
she's.
A
A
A
So
it's
my
honor
to
introduce
as
our
first
speaker
mayor
Walsh,
who
was
the
inspiration
behind
many
of
the
commitments
that
were
going
to
talk
about
today,
and
you
know
he's
certainly
no
stranger
to
East,
Boston
I.
Think
I
see
his
picture.
I
see
him
in
East
Boston,
at
least
on
a
weekly
basis,
if
not
more
often
than
that.
So
you
know
he's
been
a
great
leader
for
the
city,
he's
been
a
great
leader
to
represent
our
values
and
at
the
same
time
he
always
is
worried
about
what's
happening
in
the
neighborhoods.
A
What's
happening
day-to-day,
what
can
we
do
to
make
progress
for
the
neighborhoods
and
he's
been?
You
know
a
great
collaborator
and
much
of
what
we
announced
today
would
not
have
been
possible
without
his
leadership
and
his
interest
in
producing
some
important
successes
for
the
East
Boston
community.
So
with
that,
let
me
turn
it
over
to
mayor
Marty,
Walsh.
B
Thank
you,
Tom.
Thank
you
for
the
standing
ovation
from
this
table
right.
Yeah,
I
love,
you
thank
you.
Thank
you.
Let
me
that
was
a
love
that
standing
ovation
Sal's
leaving,
so
you
don't
have
to
stand
anymore.
B
Thank
you
very
much.
Let
me
just
thank
Tom
Glen
and
mass
support
and
the
Board
of
Directors
for
your
great
work.
I
know
that
often
times
sometimes
the
relationship
is
contentious,
and
today
it's
about
celebration,
celebration
of
the
community
celebration
of
organizations,
celebration
of
mass
sports,
commitment
to
East,
Boston
and,
and
also
all
the
elected
officials,
feel
great
work
here.
So
thank
you.
I
want
to
thank
piers,
Park
pack,
East
Boston
foundation,
and,
if
I
don't
mention,
you
I
love
you
but
I'm.
Sorry,
this
all
the
organizations
involved.
Thank
you
very
much.
B
I
also
want
to
recognize
city,
councilor,
niece
or
sabe
Jorge,
who
spent
a
lot
of
time
in
this
community
as
a
teacher
at
East,
Boston
High
School
is
not
your
city
councilor.
Thank
you.
I
also
want
to
Emily
Shay.
Our
elderly
commissioner
is
incredible,
and
Gina
Finn,
daca
transportation.
Commissioner
is
incredible.
So
I
want
to
thank
you
both
for
the
great
work
you
do
in
the
city.
B
I
suppose
you
want
to
thank
our
seniors,
who
are
here
today,
who
have
been
since
I've
got
elected
mayor
of
Boston
have
been
a
tremendous
help
to
me
as
a
person
individually,
but
also
for
being
so
persistent
I
want
to
thank
you
for
that.
That's
really
important
and
to
our
young
people
from
seeing
Adams
elementary
school.
Thank
you
as
well
fry
up
how
about
a
round
of
applause
for
young
people
as
well.
Thank
you.
B
Everything
that's
happening
in
this
neighborhood
in
East
II
people
look
at
both
those
generations.
Look
at
look
at
our
older
East,
Boston
folks
and
our
younger
East
Boston
folks,
and
making
sure
that
entire
families
can
thrive.
It's
about
making
sure
benefits
are
sustained
for
years
to
come
and
that's
what
I
love
about
this
neighborhood
when
Tom
says
I'm
here
once
a
week.
I
am
here
a
lot
because
it's
an
incredible
place.
B
It's
great
to
see
the
generational
differences
in
different
neighborhoods
and,
quite
honestly,
it's
great
to
see
the
ethnic
differences
as
well
from
people
who
came
to
this
Shore
and
how
the
neighborhood
has
changed,
and
each
Boston
has
never
lost
its
its
mission
as
far
as
helping
people
never
has
and
I
pray,
I
love
that
and
I
hope
it
never
will
either
Road
East
Boston
we're
working
to
make
the
streets
safer,
we're
making
it
easier
to
get
around
these
bus.
It
would
made
some
improvements.
B
I,
don't
know
if
you
can,
if
I
can
say
that
right
now,
but
hopefully
well
between
the
tunnel
and
the
square,
we're
working
on
it
all
right.
We
are
improving
the
waterfront,
though
you
get
access
to
the
waterfront,
you'll
have
to
jump
over
fences
or
client
through
holes
anymore.
So
I
want
to
thank
you
for
that
and
we're
investing
in
places
that
brings
people
together
and
last
year
alone
we
open
the
BCF
Paris
Center
Jim,
that's
an
incredible!
If
you
were
there,
if
you
haven't
seen
you
got
to
go
there.
B
Sal
grew
up:
there
played
play,
basketball
played
sports
there,
Adrian
was
there
as
well
as
a
young
person,
and
it's
an
it's
I'll
tell
you
it's
it's
it's
the
best
in
its
best
in
Boston,
if
not
the
best
in
the
Commonwealth.
As
far
as
that
Jim
the
way
it
is,
we
reconstructed,
Central
Square.
We
brought
up
way
to
East
E.
We've
done
we're.
B
Gonna
continue
to
do
more
down
at
the
health
center
in
particular,
today
I'm
proud
to
join
my
report
announcing
the
next
steps
in
this
neighborhood,
more
than
20
million
dollars
in
investments
for
East
Boston,
and
thank
you
master
port.
Thank
you,
John
Glenn,
well,
I
know
leads
that
leave
sad.
That
way
forward.
B
Piers
Park
phase
two
it's
been
talked
about
for
a
long
time.
I
remember
when
Anthony
Petrocelli
was
a
state
representative
and
they
were
talking
about
building
the
waterfront
were
in
the
house
together
and
then,
when
Anthony
went
over
to
the
Senate
and
Coble
came
in
and
and
talking
about,
the
importance
of
the
waterfront
and
you
know,
and
seeing
it
come
to
fruition
is
incredible.
The
next
stage
is
gonna
bring
10.5
acres
of
land.
B
That
means
most
most
place
for,
as
I
said
earlier,
our
young
people
to
play
gather
and
also
for
our
seniors
to
be
able
to
enjoy
and
walk
around
and
get
Rescate
get
to
the
waterfront.
So
congratulations
on
that
massport
is
continuing
a
partnership
with
the
east
boston
foundation.
To
date,
these
Boston
Foundation
has
has
directed
more
than
10
million
dollars
to
local
programs
that
serve
people
at
every
stage
of
life,
from
elementary
school
to
seniors
and
I
want
to
thank
Massport
for
supporting
this
great
local,
local
institution
and
I.
B
Want
to
thank
I
want
to
thank
the
East
Boston
foundation,
because
the
money
that
they
give
out
is
what
helps
the
little
leagues
and
helps
the
soccer
leagues
and
and
helps
the
kids
and
helps
the
seniors
and
helps
move
in
programs
forward.
It's
that
it's
that
money,
sometimes
that
people
don't
have
and
to
have
a
foundation
like
this,
so
so
organized
in
this
community.
It
does
make
a
big
impact,
so
I
want
to
thank
you
as
well.
The
city
of
Boston
is
working.
B
Jean
is
working
with
Massport
to
conduct
a
traffic
study
of
Neptune
Road,
which
is
going
to
help
us
understand
that
the
causes
of
the
congestion
and
ensure
a
safer,
more
efficient
commute
the
expansion
upon
the
work,
we're
doing
to
improve
the
infrastructure
around
route.
1A
I'm,
proud
of
that
work.
Finally,
I'm
proud
that
we're
moving
forward
on
a
new
resource
for
our
most
for
the
people
that
we
honor
the
most
the
citizens
in
the
senior
citizens
of
East
Boston,
these
Boston
Senior
Center.
So
I
want
to
congratulate
you.
B
This
neat
new
Senior
Center
is
going
to
be
certainly
an
asset
to
our
community,
but
it's
also
going
to
be
a
place
for
older
adults
to
hang
out.
Socialize
connect,
services
and
resources
and
all
I
ask
is
don't
tell
anyone
else
in
the
rest
of
the
city.
Cuz
they're,
like
you
know
how
what
LEC
got
it,
we
didn't
get
it.
You
know
edit
that
out
of
the
video
too,
you
know,
eesti
has
one
but
no
I.
You
know
it's
gonna,
be
it's
incredible.
B
The
the
the
this
Center
is
gonna,
be
at
the
former
library
that
served
this
community
for
many
years
and
I'm
proud
of
this.
This
site's
gonna
continue
to
provide
access
and
cultural,
cultural
and
educational
resources
for
adults
for
older
adults
and
older
Bostonians
and
older
people
from
East
Boston.
We
also
can
talk
we're
talking
about
making
Boston
the
most
age-friendly
city
in
America,
and
this
is
a
big
piece
of
the
puzzle.
Last
say
just
want
to
say:
we're
gonna
continue
to
create
more
welcoming
accessible
places
for
people
to
gather.
B
We
want
to
make
sure
Boston
is
more
livable
for
all
of
different
ages.
The
people
of
East
Boston
have
been
strong
advocates
for
the
senior
centers
and
all
these
investments.
So
thank
you
for
that.
I
want
to
thank
you
for
everyone
who
helped
make
these
plans
come
to
fruition
and
I
want
to
thank
everyone
who
made
this
today
happen.
You
know,
as
they
said
in
the
very
beginning,
I
know
that,
sometimes
that
the
relationship
can
be
contentious
and
in
this
there's
back
and
forth
all
the
time.
B
But
it's
you
know
most
most
communities
in
the
Commonwealth
of
Massachusetts.
They
don't
have
this
ability
to
be
able
to
get
money
from
something
like
Massport.
So
on
one
side
it
can
be
a
problem
on
the
other
side,
it's
a
blessing
because
that
blessing
helps
in
so
many
different
ways.
There's
a
lot
of
people
under
this
tent-
that's
gonna,
be
touched
by
that
and
I
want
to.
Thank
you.
Lastly,
thank
you
to
the
community.
B
Thank
you
for
pushing
Massport,
because
I
just
get
a
chance
to
step
here
today
and
celebrate
giving
money
away
in
elected
officials.
Follow
me
get
the
same
thing,
but
it
was
you
this
community.
That
pushed
my
support
a
long
long
time
ago
to
be
an
integral
part
of
a
community.
So
thank
you
very
much.
A
A
So
next
I
want
to
introduce
John
Nucci,
who
is
known
to
all
of
you
and
I
want
to
say.
This
is
another
thing
that
mayor
Walsh
has
done
to
help
East
Boston
and
help
Massport,
because
he
appointed
John
Nucci
to
the
Massport
Advisory
Committee
and
they
in
turn
elected
John.
So
John
is
a
resident
of
East
Boston
who
serves
on
the
board
of
directors
of
mass
sport,
he's
a
lifelong
East,
Boston
resident.
He
served
an
elective
office.
Now
he
has
a
very
senior
position
at
Suffolk,
University
and
I.
A
C
C
C
Thank
You
mayor
Walsh,
for
all
you
do
for
this
community
and
all
you've
done
to
make
this
happen.
Your
leadership
really
sets
an
example
for
all
of
us,
as
we
as
we
go
forward.
I
also
want
to
take
the
time
to
point
out,
as
others
have
that
none
of
this
would
have
been
possible
without
the
fantastic
work
of
the
elected
officials.
Here
in
East
Boston.
C
C
And
as
a
former
elected
official
I
would
be
remiss
if
I
didn't
acknowledge
a
couple
of
former
elected
officials
who
came
before
our
current
crop:
State
Senator,
anthony
Petrocelli,
former
state,
senator
so
responsible
and
and
and
of
course,
you
know,
somebody
who
has
had
the
position
of
state
representative
and
the
very
very
important
position
of
chief
secretary
to
the
governor
of
the
commonwealth
and
in
everything
he
did
every
day
had
the
interests
of
this
community
at
heart.
Former
state
representative,
kalo
basil.
Thank
you
for
ago.
C
I
did
maybe
most
people
here
know
I
was
born
and
raised
in
this
community
was
born
on
bonds,
Avenue
and
early
in
height.
Sixty-Five
years
ago,
this
year
and
I
have
seen
many
many
changes
and
I
have
lived
through
good
days
and
very
bad
days,
not
just
for
the
neighborhood,
but
especially
in
our
relationship.
Would
Massport
I
stood
with
my
father,
protesting
against
Massport
in
the
distant
past
and
I've
got
to
tell
you
the
current
administration
led
by
Tom
Glynn.
C
Whether
it's,
whether
it's
the
beauty
of
Pierce
Park
and
we've,
seen
what
peers
pop
one
has
done
for
this
community,
it's
been
a
major
factor
in
the
transformation
of
this
community
artists.
The
support
that
Massport
will
now
continue
to
give
to
the
East
Boston
foundation
and
so
many
lives
of
so
many
people
are
impacted
by
the
agencies
that
get
their
support
from
the
East
Boston
foundation
on
the
traffic
study.
C
These
are
all
major
contributions
and
I
want
to
assure
you
one
thing
and
I
promise
that
do
this:
the
Senior
Center,
which
is
being
viewed
as
something
that
would
go
into
the
old
orient
Heights
library
I
spent
my
entire
youth
in
that
building.
It
was
a
place
that
I
would
go,
read,
books
and
think
of
places.
I
knew
my
family
couldn't
afford
to
go,
but
going
to
the
library
and
spending
hour
after
hour
doing
that
was
so
special
and
I
want
to
promise
to
you
and
assure
to
you.
C
That's
that
that
is
going
to
be
a
great
resource
for
all
the
senior
centers
in
this
community
in
the
senior
center
senior
citizens
to
come
as
well
and
again,
that's
due
to
the
leadership
of
Massport
and,
as
the
mayor
said,
to
all
of
you
who
pushed
massport
and
prodded
Massport
and
made
them
come
to
the
table
and
be
supportive
of
this
community.
So,
thanks
to
all
you
as
well,
very
simply,
what
we
have
here
is
a
great
community
about
to
become
even
greater.
So
thanks
to
all
of
you
and
thanks
again
to
Massport
as
well.
A
So,
as
Jonathan
Mayer
said
when
we
started
negotiating
on
these
commitments
with
the
elected
officials,
senator
bond
Cory
was
elected
right
in
the
middle
of
that
process.
So
he
jumped
right
in.
He
was
a
great
advocate
and
a
great
expert
and
in
addition
to
his
responsibilities
in
the
district
he's
also
the
vice
chair
of
the
Transportation
Committee
at
the
Statehouse.
So
that's
a
very
important
thing
for
all
of
us,
so
we
appreciate
his
leadership
and
I'm
gonna
turn
over
to
Senator
barn,
Cory.
D
D
You
know,
since
mayor
Walsh
has
been
elected
during
my
entire
tenure
in
the
state
Senate
he's
putting
in
an
impetus
on
getting
priorities
done
in
East
Boston,
so
whether
it's
Central
Square,
whether
it's
talking
about
a
brand
new
Senior
Center
or
the
mati
Pino
Sena,
he's
really
just
pushed
and
delivered
a
lot
for
this
city,
along
with
our
great
councils,
Sal
la
mattina.
So
how
about
another
hand
fragra
mayor,
Marty,
Walsh.
D
I
also
want
to
thank
Massport,
its
board
of
directors
and
all
of
its
employees
who
keep
in
such
great
touch
without
your
local
elected
officials
and
apprising
of
us
of.
What's
going
on,
I
want
to
thank
you
for
these
fine
contributions
to
our
community.
You
know
5
million
million
dollars
to
the
East
Boston
foundation,
that
son
funds,
so
many
crucial
programs
for
our
seniors
and
our
children
programs
like
zoomix
programs
like
the
Marty,
Pina,
Supino,
Senior,
Center,
and
many
many
programs
for
our
seniors.
D
You
know
it's
so
important
and
it's
great
to
see
the
ladies
up
here
in
the
front
table,
but
along
with
the
children
in
the
back,
because,
what's
so
great
about
this
community
is
the
generational
responsibility
that
you
all
have
had
it
displayed,
and
you
know
it's
always
about
who's
going
forward.
But
it's
about
who's
coming
behind
and
you
guys
have
fought
a
very
long
time
and
now
you're
compromising
a
very
for
this
past
few
years
with
Massport
to
ensure
that
the
kids
in
the
back
of
the
room
have
all
what
you
all
went
without.
D
So
that's
an
incredible
generational
responsibility
that
I'm
so
honored
to
represent
people
like
you
and
that
generated
show
responsibility,
extends
beyond
the
residence
but
two-year
elected
officials
past
and
present
so
I
be
remissed.
If
I
too
didn't
mention
the
great
work
of
my
predecessor,
senator
Anthony,
Petrocelli
and
representative
kalo
Basel,
who
you
know
we
I
get
to
get
up
here
and
take
a
bow
today.
But
it's
the
work
of
these
men
over
the
past
decades.
D
That
really
delivered
a
antia
color
into
the
current
elected
officials,
as
tom
was
kind
of
stating
I
came
to
this
game
a
little
late,
but
it
was
under
the
foresight
of
and
in
good
work
of
you
know,
representative
Adrian,
moderate
and
Salim
attina
to
put
together
something
we've
never
seen
before
in
this
community,
which
was
an
li
AG,
the
Logan
impact
advisory
group
that
was
really
their
brainchild,
they
put
together
and
they
said
we
want
to
have
residents
of
East
Boston,
be
part
of
the
process.
We
want
to.
D
D
A
So
next
I
want
to
introduce
representative
Adrian
Madara,
who
does
deserve
a
lot
of
the
credit
as
Senator
Brown
corey
indicated
along
with
Sal
for
pulling
this
all
together
for
for
kind
of
nominating
some
of
the
folks
and
leading
the
process,
and
he
made
a
critical
difference
in
us
being
able
to
be
here
today.
So
I
think
you
all
know
that
he
just
came
back
from
his
honeymoon.
F
E
Getting
heavy
but
very
excited
to
be
here
this
afternoon.
The
commitments
were
talking
about,
presents
such
exciting
opportunities
for
the
East
Boston
community.
When
you
talk
about
Pierce,
Park
phase,
2
right
I
mean
this
is
an
award-winning
Park
that
we're
in
right
now
it
has
been
a
driver
for
the
Renaissance
that
we've
been
experiencing
here
in
East,
Boston
I
think
we
can
only
imagine
what
doubling
the
size
of
Pierce
Park
will
mean
to
our
community
and
to
the
residents
here.
E
E
They've,
given
out
millions
over
the
years
and
we're
a
better
community
because
of
the
East
Boston
foundation,
it
supports
our
youth
programs,
our
sports
programs,
senior
activities,
you
name
it,
these
Boston
foundation
funds,
it
I,
do
want
to
give
a
shout
out
to
Laureen
Schettino
in
the
East
Boston
foundation.
Members
who
are
here
thank
you
for
all
your
wonderful
worker,
for
the
impact
you
make
on
our
community
and
I.
Think
the
best
part
about
the
commitments
that
were
discussing
today
is
the
way
the
process
went
about
and
how
we
formulated
these
commitments.
E
For
the
first
time
in
the
history
of
relations
between
Massport
and
the
community.
This
was
a
community
driven,
a
resident
driven
mitigation
process
where
we,
as
residents,
had
a
seat
at
the
table
in
determining
what
commitments
we
wanted
to
see
for
our
neighborhood
and
I.
Think
that
is
a
very
special
thing
and
again
that's
unprecedented
and
really
that
speaks
to
the
leadership
of
Tom
Glynn
and
he
and
his
team
at
Massport
Tom.
E
That
is
a
special
thing,
and
that
is
how
good
government
works,
and
that
is
how
good
collaboration
work
so
again,
tom
to
the
lig
members
and
to
the
other
residents
who
were
involved
in
that
process.
Thank
you
so
much
because,
ultimately,
I
think
we
have
something
that
works
for
us
that
works
for
Massport
and
that
is
going
to
make
our
community
so
much
better,
and
the
amenities
that
we're
announcing
today
will
be
things
that
we
can
enjoy
for
generations
to
come.
Thank
you.
Also,
I'd
be
remiss
not
to
say
this.
A
So
you
know
it's
a
special
honor
to
be
able
to
introduce
councillor
Salomon
Tina.
He
is
one
of
the
great
people
in
public
service
in
the
Commonwealth
he
tells
it
like
it
is.
You
know,
he's
done
a
great
job
year
after
year
with
eesti,
Pride,
Day
and
so
the
mayor's
in
the
back.
But
unlike
that
fake
standing
ovation,
you
gave
the
mayor
I
want
you
to
give
a
real
standing
ovation
to
Salim
and
everybody
up.
G
Good
afternoon,
so
Adrian
said
that
this
was
his
first
speech
as
a
married
man,
and
this
this
might
be
my
last
speech
and
he's
Boston
as
your
city
councilor
at
a
public
event,
but
before
I
begin
I
just
want
to
recognize
former
city
councilor
Diana
Monica
Diane
Monica,
who
who
worked
really
hard
in
East
Boston,
someone
who
I
admire,
who
was
also
my
chip
person,
my
campaign
Diane.
Thank
you
for
being
here
yeah
eleven
years.
G
There
was
a
sign
in
the
mess
hall
that
he
saw
some
camps.
That
said,
when
all
give
all
game-
and
today
is
a
perfect
example
of
what
happened
to
make
this
day
possible
because
we
all
had
to
give
a
little
to
gain,
and
today
we
gain
something
that
we've
been
working
on
for
a
long
long
time.
So
with
that
Tom.
Thank
you
for
working
with
us
you.
He
really
has
listen.
G
I've
been
around
for
58
years,
but
I
was
at
the
I
was
at
an
event
on
Friday
night
for
the
East
Boston
social
Center
and
Justin
was
reminding
me
that
next
year
is
gonna,
be
the
100-year
anniversary
of
the
East
Boston
social
Center
and
I
was
like
oh,
my
god.
I
was
like
I
was
there
when
I
was
six
years
old,
and
so
that
was
like
50
years
ago
about
Tom.
Thank
you.
I
really
appreciate
that
mayor.
Where
are
you
this
guy
really
said
I've
been
around
for
a
long
time?
G
G
My
partner
senator
bond
Cory,
like
he
just
got
into
this
li
AG
and
worked
with
us
and
represented
an
Asian
Madero.
You
learn
a
lot
of
my
respect
during
that
whole
process.
When
I
was
going
back
and
forth,
should
I
stay
or
should
I
go
one
reason
I
always
wanted
to
leave
because
I
said
no
something
we
have
some
too
good
elected
officials
here
that
would
take,
carries
Boston.
So
both
you
I'm
so
proud
to
be.
G
G
Remember
as
a
little
kid
next
to
echo
was
a
rental
car
agency
and
if
you
went
across
the
street,
behind
Santa
Fe
was
on
Brima
Street.
There
was
a
a
truck
company,
taco
company,
Audrey
Mestre
and
then
the
rest
of
three
mystery
was
a
huge
pocket.
Fly
I,
remember
going
to
East
Boston
high
school
and
not
be
able
to
hear
my
teachers
because
the
planes
were
so
low
and
they
were
so
loud.
G
I
remember:
go
as
when
I
got
out
of
college
ins
and
the
scientists,
a
nice
boss
on
my
wife,
Lisa
I,
remember
going
to
community
meetings
and
listened
to
some
of
the
old-time
community
activists,
say
East
Boston
had
the
less
the
least
open
space
in
the
city
of
Boston
to
lease
open
space
and
I.
Remember
when
I
started,
eesti
Friday
and
Jesus
gonna
be
30
years
next
year
and
I
started
that
day,
because
people
were
leaving
East
Boston,
there
are
families.
G
There
were
our
friends
moving
out
of
his
Boston,
because
East
Boston
was
not
the
same
East
Boston
that
they
were
growing
up.
We
had
vacant
buildings
in
empty
storefronts
at
the
time,
but
a
lot
of
you
in
this
room
right
here.
You
stayed
here
in
East,
Boston
and
I.
Thank
you
and
we
work
together
as
East
Bostonians,
and
we
held
mass
pours
feet
to
the
fire
and
I
don't
mind
fire
mass
pouring.
We
fought
them.
He
where's
my
friend
Gail
Miller,
though
we
might
disagree
a
lot
there's
one
thing
we
do
this.
G
G
I'm
in
a
good
place,
because
I'm
neighborhood
isn't
a
good
place
and
every
time
I
know
for
fact,
the
last
11
years,
you
probably
heard
me
say
the
best
is
yet
to
come
all
right.
The
best
is
yet
to
come.
He's
Boston
I
want
to
just
thank
you
all
for
your
support
over
the
last
11
years
and
I
love
y'all.
Thank
you.
A
So
before
I
introduce
Mary,
I
just
also
want
introduce
John
Vitagliano.
Many
of
you
know
former
Massport
board
member
former
city
of
Boston
transportation,
commissioner,
and
an
important
advisor
to
community
and
elected
and
executive
branch
officials
alike.
So,
as
I
mentioned
before,
Mary
Berninger
is
going
to
be
playing
an
important
role.
As
the
head
of
piers
pack,
she's
gonna
take
the
leadership
in
working
with
us
to
plan
what
the
new
piers
part
two
is
going
to
look
like
and
she
agreed
to
say
a
few
words.
So
if
you
want
roses,
you
talk
to
Mary.
H
I
think
everyone's
a
little
taller
than
I
am
good
afternoon.
I
want
to
thank
mr.
Glenn
for
hosting
today's
event.
Mayor
Walsh,
senator
bond
Corey
representative
Madero,
constantly
renewed
George,
Anthony
Petrocelli,
who
else?
Let's
see
members
of
the
Massport
board
of
directors,
neighbors,
friends
and
I
want
to
mention
one
person
in
particular
in
the
back
of
the
room,
the
senior
member
of
the
peers
pack,
peter
Cardinale
Peter.
Where
are
you.
H
Today
is
an
important
milestone
for
East
Boston.
Our
community
has
arrived
at
the
threshold
of
the
completion
to
Pia's
Park
and
to
the
building
of
a
Senior
Center.
Did
you
ever
think
the
day
would
come
it's
here,
and
it's
wonderful,
mindful
of
the
many
who
have
toiled
for
decades
on
community
engagement
with
the
Port
Authority,
some
of
whom
have
passed
away,
may
I.
Ask
that
we
take
a
moment
to
remember
their
civic
contributions.
H
Thank
you.
As
a
member
of
the
Logan
impact
advisory
group
representing
PS
PAC
that
worked
with
massport
to
create
to
craft
an
agreement
to
bring
these
needed
community
benefits
to
East
Boston
I
want
to
thank
specifically
Adrienne
Madero
and
Salim
attina
for
having
the
vision
to
do
what
had
never
been
done
in
our
dealings
with
the
Port
Authority,
they
convened
a
group
of
representatives
from
stakeholder
organizations
throughout
the
community
to
talk
about
impacts
from
the
airport
within
our
myths.
Great
conversations
were
had
and
much
was
accomplished.
H
H
Mr.
Glyn,
thank
you
for
your
leadership.
During
the
months
of
discussions,
you
and
your
team
showed
a
willingness
to
collaborate
with
East
Boston
on
issues
of
vital
interest
to
residents.
We
look
forward
to
having
that
level
of
cooperation
as
a
blueprint.
As
the
discussions
continue,
PS
pack
is
ready
to
begin
the
work
to
bring
the
completed
park
to
fruition.
H
H
Our
senior
citizens
have
been
without
a
standalone
facility
for
too
long
that
project
included
in
this
agreement
will
answer
the
need
with
a
center
that
will
give
our
seniors
a
place
of
camaraderie
recreation,
learning
and
healing
it
is
their
time.
Thank
You,
mayor
Walsh,
for
your
unwavering
support
for
the
Senior
Center,
truly
East
Boston
is
on
the
move.
Thank
you.
A
So
our
last
speaker
is
Lorene
Schettino
who's,
going
to
talk
a
little
bit
about
the
commitments
to
the
East
Boston
foundation,
which
has
been
so
successful
over
the
last
20
years,
has
done
a
tremendous
job,
and
you
know
we
appreciate
her
stepping
up
and
taking
on
the
leadership
responsibilities
and
working
with
everybody
here
on
an
agenda
going
forward.
So
please
come
up
and
say
a
few
words
and
then.
I
Good
afternoon,
everyone
I'll
try
to
make
this
quick.
I
know
everyone's
a
little
chilly
right
now.
The
East
Boston
foundation
was
formed
in
1998
to
administer
a
generous
nine
point:
six
million
dollar
contribution
from
Massport
as
part
of
community
mitigation.
So
for
almost
twenty
years
now
the
East
Boston
foundations
been
in
existence.
So
today,
I'd
like
to
thank
massport
for
agreeing
to
contribute
$500,000
increments
over
the
next
ten
years
for
capital
projects
associated
with
Logan
Airport.
I
This
would
all
not
be
possible
without
the
fine
work
of
our
elected
officials
and
you
as
a
community
for
stepping
up
and
pushing
forward
at
this
time.
It's
not
about
me
as
the
executive
director.
It's
about
the
members
that
have
volunteers
and
the
trustees
that
sit
on
the
committee
with
me
and
are
able
to
give
out
these
awards
to
all
of
the
local
nonprofits
I'd.
Ask
that
you
all
stand.
I
can
see.
Dianne
Monica,
Fran,
Carbone,
I,
think
I
saw
Chris
Marquis
somewhere
in
the
room
and
Gail
Miller.
If
I'm
missing
anybody
else,.
I
They
sit
for
countless
hours
and
go
over
grant
applications
and
are
able
to
distribute
the
money
to
the
organizations
such
as
the
Silesians,
the
social
centers,
East,
Boston
senior
citizen
field,
trips,
Pez
Park
sailing
Center,
the
East
Boston
Chamber
of
Commerce
Veronica
row,
Birla's,
Cultural,
Center
and
countless
others.
If
anybody
would
ever
like
more
information
on
the
foundation,
please
just
come
and
find
me
and
good
luck
today
and
I
can
to
mass
porn
and
thank
you
to
the
elected
officials
for
extending
this.
Some
of
remember.
