From YouTube: NIF Grant Ceremony
Description
The relationship between Boston College and Allston-Brighton goes back over 150 years. That relationship continued at the Boston College Campus in Brighton, where Mayor Walsh and Boston College President Father Leahy gathered to present grants to a 18 recipients from the Allston-Brighton area.
A
A
We
are
very
pleased
to
have
such
a
wonderful
turnout
from
our
partners
at
the
city,
the
BPD,
a
the
elected
officials,
the
BC
task
force
in
all
of
our
grant
recipients.
This
morning,
I
would
like
to
congratulate
the
five
neighborhood
improvement
fund
grant
recipients
and
the
14
Community
Fund
grant
recipients
on
the
awards
that
will
will
fund
a
number
of
beneficial
programs
in
Austin
Brighton,
including
playground,
renovations,
summer
camps,
children's
recreation,
music
programs,
landscape,
beautification,
educational
programs
for
teens,
sidewalk
and
accessibility
improvements,
public
art,
recognition
of
local
veterans,
sacrifice
and
service
to
his
country.
A
In
total,
19
organizations
will
be
receiving
approximately
360
thousand
dollars
in
funding
from
the
2016
NIF
fund
and
2017
spring
cycle
of
the
community
fund.
I
would
now
like
to
welcome
to
the
podium
a
man
that
I
have
had
the
honor
and
privilege
of
working
with
for
the
past
16
years
by
the
William
P
Lahey
of
the
Society
of
Jesus,
president
of
Boston
College.
C
B
So
much
of
what
happens
in
any
city
but
especially
Boston,
is
the
result
of
partnerships,
and
we
are
an
institution
that
very
much
benefits
from
our
relationship
with
city
of
Boston.
Its
leadership,
especially
mayor
Walsh.
But
all
of
you
who
come
to
this
event
but
you're
part
of
our
neighborhood
and
the
wider
community
and
I
see
the
young
students
here
wearing
their
90
tops
and
looking
so
bright
and
I
say
that's
the
future
and
what
we
want
to
do
in
our
efforts
at
Boston.
B
In
making
this
neighborhood
a
better
place,
also
recognize
the
history
and
the
heritage
of
them,
yet
I
think
about
general
Casey
and
his
sacrifice
for
our
country.
If
Sun
is
with
us
today,
how
we
can
do
so
much
together,
but
we
need
to
be
mindful
of
the
community
and
the
heritage,
and
so
what
we
can
do
together,
I
think
helps
make
for
a
better
community,
but
it
also
called
each
of
us
to
live
lives
that
show
respect
for
one
another,
that
we
welcome
individuals
who
come
from
different
backgrounds,
different
perspectives.
That's.
B
I
think
wants
in
such
a
great
city
and
that's
why
Boston
College
is
delighted
to
host
you
today
and
be
part
of
these
grants
and
allow
you
to
you,
your
energy
and
talent,
to
do
even
more
good,
so
I'm
grateful
to
you
for
being
part
of
today
and
I
want
to
make
sure
we
keep
our
partners
to
check
very
strong
and
alive,
so
I
say
welcome
and
thank
you
for
being
with
and
enjoying
this
community.
Thank
you.
A
Thank
you.
Follow
waggy
before
I
introduce
our
next
guest
to
the
podium
I'd
like
to
introduce
and
also
introduce
people
who
make
this
happen.
Our
BC
task
force
joining
us
today
is
one
of
our
co-chairs:
Annabel
Gomes,
Gini,
woods,
Tina,
tchen,
bacio,
fair
Donald
Cour,
and
we
also
have
one
of
our
great
neighbors.
This
is
Mulligan
who's
here
who
lives
she's
in
media
butter.
So
could
we
have
a
nice
round
of
applause.
A
D
A
A
D
Thank
you
Tom.
Let
me
let
me
just
start
by
thanking
thanking
father,
Leahy
and
DC
I
had.
D
Drove
on
campus
a
little
early
today,
so
I
drove
on
campus
and
I
was
just
looking
at
DC,
and
it's
not
thinking
about
in
my
time
is
man,
the
relationship
between
all
the
colleges
in
Boston
and
but
in
particular,
I'll
talk
about
BC
today
and
the
grants
that
are
here,
but
also
the
young
people
that
from
our
city
that
get
a
chance
to
go
to
Boston
College
we're
getting
more
and
more
kids,
reminding
our
city
going
to
that
going
to
Boston
College,
it's
an
important
opportunity.
So
we
talk
about.
D
We
take
for
granted
I
think
what's
under
our
own,
what's
under
our
own
nose
and
I
want
to
thank
I
want
to
thank
Farley
I
want
to
thank
him
for
his
friendship
and
commitment,
because
he's
a
guy
that
he'll
pick
up
the
phone
will
talk
with
a
very
straightforward
conversations,
not
not
about
Boston
College,
but
about
the
future
of
education
in
the
city,
the
future
of
really
creating
pathways
for
young
people.
So
Paula.
Thank
you
for
your
leadership
in
your
friendship
and
your
guidance,
and
we
provide
here
in
the
city
of
Boston.
D
D
Nancy
gret
the
chair
of
the
Austin
Brighton
BC,
Community
Fund.
Thank
you.
Everyone
on
the
task
force,
Thank,
You,
Marci,
City,
Council,
Marciano,
another
person
to
LA,
who
spends
an
awful
lot
of
time
working
working
morning
in
a
night,
not
just
his
community,
but
the
entire
city
of
us,
and
he
is
the
chairman
of
the
Ways
and
Means
Committee
to
City
Hall.
That's
a
big
deal
there
is.
D
There
is
a
lot
of
committees
in
City,
Hall
and
their
important
committees,
but
the
probably
the
most
important,
probably
the
most
important
committees,
ways
and
means,
because
it's
a
partnership
on
how
to
move
our
city
forward
and
laying
out
the
pathway
and
I
want
to
thank
monetary
is
a
great
support.
I.
D
D
Just
about
every
grant
given
out
today
has
a
little
tie
back
to
kids,
one
way
or
the
other
when
you
think
about
that
and
again,
thank
you
for
the
for
the
tax
course
and
thank
you
to
Boston
College
I'm
almost
done
thanking
people
know
a
person
who
is
no
stranger
to
anyone
in
this
room.
Somebody
who
I
served
with
is
a
state
representative
and
then
I
had
the
honor
of
working
with
as
the
head
of
the
Boston,
Planning
and
Development
see
Brian
golden.
D
D
D
I
am
grateful
that
one
of
these
grants
that
we're
giving
out
today
will
fund
the
plaque
at
the
City
of
Boston
Smith
park
in
Austin
to
honor
general
Casey's,
father
Major,
General
George
W
Casey,
so
we
are
honored
here
today,
sir,
to
have
you
in
our
presence.
I
also
want
to
thank
funding.
Guys
I
also
want
to
thank
the
VFW
post
669
and
the
Boston
Parks
and
Recreation
Department
for
teaming
up
in
advance
of
these
to
advance
these
ideas.
D
We
have
an
incredible
military
tradition
in
our
neighborhoods
from
high
ranking
national
leaders
to
Army
Reserve
Officers,
like
Austin's
Brian
golden
and
to
young
people
like
the
JROTC.
Looking
looking
at
joining
up,
we
need
to
do
all
we
can
to
recognize
this
and
celebrate
this
and
what
we
can.
Well,
that's
what
we're
going
to
do
here
in
the
city
I.
C
D
D
Your
odds,
accepting
and
grant
without
excluding
humanities,
to
work
with
students
on
sculptures
in
front
of
Brighton
High
School
reflect
the
passion
of
the
students
and
the
teachers
did,
and
it's
also
a
school
a
lot
of
product.
That's
going
to
a
transition
deserves
on
support.
I'll
tell
you
of
all
the
high
schools
I
go
into
every
day
and
I
go
to
a
lot
of
them
when
you
want
to
bring
in
high
school
I
know
that
we're
working
on
fixing
some
of
the
some
of
the
challenge
we
have
there.
There
is
passion
in
that
school.
D
Their
basketball
team
is
the
nationally
ranked
basketball.
So
it
is
a
statewide,
ranked
basketball
team.
There's
a
lot
of
hot
in
that
school,
so
I'm
asking
the
community
of
Brighton
to
wrap
your
arms
around
that
school
as
we
move
into
the
next
level,
because
we
will
turn
that
school
around
and
we
won't
rob
well
the
teachers
well.
Thank
you
very
much.
D
Today,
we're
announcing
19
different
grants.
I
can
give
a
speech
about
every
single
one,
but
I'm
not
going
to
cuz.
You
don't
want
to
hand
me
an
NFL,
probably
throw
me
on
the
precise
I
talking
so
I
want
to
congratulate
you
as
a
group,
because
I
look
around
the
moment.
I
know
some
of
the
organizations
that
are
getting
grants.
I
want
to
thank
you
because
you
do
great
work.
We
would
not
so
long,
though
some
of
us
were
at
the
West
End
house
on
another
grant
proposal.
I'd
be
a
day.
D
You
do
some
great
things
here
in
the
community
and
really
creating
opportunity
to
both
young
people
and
about
moving
forward.
Also,
today
we're
remembering
a
hero
who
grew
up
in
this
neighborhood.
We're
also
going
to
remember,
put
something
special
out
on
high
school
to
recognize
what
we're
doing
high
school
so
again,
I
want
to
thank
all
of
you.
I
want
to
thank
you.
As
a
group,
you
reflect
the
spirit
of
the
awesome
Brighton
community
in
the
strength
of
our
city.
D
I
want
to
thank
Boston
College,
and
this
great
University
lifts
up
the
local
communities
around
it.
So
I
want
to
thank
PC
for
everything
that
you
do
and
going
to
continue
to
do
and
I
want
to
thank
much
you'll
know,
as
I
said
before.
This
is
an
m2
makes
a
nice
day
for
us
in
this
community
and
in
the
city
of
Boston.
So
again,
thank
you.
I'm
done
talking
because
a
little
bit
little
guys
want
to
get
in
there
and
eat
some
stuff
come
on
Tom
Keating.
A
I'd
like
to
just
have
fun
believe
me,
the
screen
here
we
have,
we
have
a
few
recipients
but
I'm
doing
five
and
then
the
integral
will
be
called
up
to
the
remainder.
The
first
one
I'd
like
to
ask
Austin
Dillon
main
street's,
Emma,
Walters
and
Scott
Madeline
to
come
up
they're,
going
to
receive
a
check
for
36,000
for
tree
pet
project
in
Austin
village
main
streets.
Congratulations.
C
D
C
C
A
A
Next
recipient
is
from
the
Department
of
Conservation
and
Recreation,
and
joining
us
today
is
the
director
of
a
and
F
with
DC

Jim
Montgomery,
and
also
at
Lisa
Barstow
and
Erica
Aubin.
If
you
could
join
us,
this
is
for
fifty
nine
thousand
dollars
for
tree
planting
and
other
site
improvements
around
the
chest.
Many
old
reservoir.
A
The
next
one
is
the
fifth
one:
it's
for
the
VFW
Post
six,
six
men
and
Parks
and
Recreation
I
just
want
to
say
that
Phil
guilfoyle
who's,
the
Post
Commander
in
my
parents,
were
members
of
the
post.
669
dildo
Foyle
has
been
a
stellar
neighbour
lifelong
resident
of
Austin
bright,
who
served
in
Vietnam
and
walk
joining.
Him
is
General
George
Casey,
the
United
States
Army,
to
accept
a
hundred
thousand
dollars
for
that
would
go
to
an
amphitheater
at
sledge
parking,
Austin
and
also
joining
us
is
Colonel
Brian
golden
directors
and
Boston
