From YouTube: Verizon Partnership Announcement
Description
Mayor Walsh joins representatives from Verizon and the City of Boston to announce updates to their partnership relating to digital equity, economic development and protecting the public right of way on Boston's streets. Verizon will now expand their FiOS service citywide, and has also signed a long-term lease at the Hub on Causeway downtown.
A
A
As
you
know,
we
have
already
had
a
very
strong
partnership
with
Boston,
but
we
are
excited
to
we're
excited
to
expand
our
work
together
to
bring
new
opportunities
to
this
great
city
with
your
rich
history
of
partnerships
that
have
resulted
in
being
a
center
of
research
and
entrepreneurship,
with
your
expertise
in
science,
healthcare,
biotech,
robotics,
big
data
and
software
development.
This
is
an
ideal
community
for
us
to
invest
to
help
deliver
the
promise
of
the
digital
world.
Two
years
ago
we
began
a
300
million
dollar
plan
to
Y
or
the
city
with
fiber
optics.
A
Today,
we're
announcing
our
plans
to
deliver
one
fiber
network
to
the
remainder
of
the
city,
allowing
for
more
entrepreneurs,
residents
and
visitors
to
access
the
fast
reliable
communications
Verizon
provides.
We
will
also
rapidly
deploy
small
cells,
which
will
increase
capacity
and
speeds
for
our
wireless
customers
and
laid
the
groundwork
for
future
technologies.
A
A
These
wireless
and
wireline
network
expansions
an
investment
of
an
additional
300
million
dollars
and
our
new
expanded,
Boston
presence
of
16
floors
above
us
here
lay
the
foundation
for
our
future
with
Boston.
These
enhancements
and
investments
are
critical
to
our
existing
networks
and
foundational
to
the
evolution
to
5g
technology,
which
will
support
innovations
like
remote
telemedicine,
physical
therapy,
advanced
robotics,
smart
cities,
autonomous
vehicles,
as
well
as
other
applications
that
we
have
not
even
been
able
to
dream
up
yet
to
further.
Our
partnership.
A
Verizon
will
be
contributing
1
million
dollars
to
the
Boston
digital
equity
fund
to
help
support
programs
that
provide
access
to
broadband
to
underserved
residents.
We
applaud
Boston's
leadership
and
your
continued
focus
on
technology
and
for
being
a
hub
of
innovation.
This
partnership
once
again
demonstrates
that
Boston
is
a
forward-thinking
tech,
friendly
city
that
is
committed
to
providing
the
newest
innovations
and
advancements
for
the
residents.
Businesses
and
the
many
universities
you
have
here.
A
I
would
be
remiss
if
I
did
not
also
thank
the
many
Verizon
engineers
and
technicians
who
have
built
our
premier,
all
fiber
Network
and
the
city's
best
wireless
network,
some
of
them
here
today,
and
thank
you
guys
for
all
the
work
that
you
do.
Mayor
walsh,
cio,
cio,
patricia
boyle,
mckenna,
economic
development,
leader,
john
barrows
and
chief
of
streets,
Chris
Osgood.
Thank
you
for
your
leadership
and
vision.
A
Verizon
is
very
pleased
to
strengthen
our
partnership
with
you
and
commit
to
investments
that
will
help
the
efforts
to
make
Boston
one
of
the
met.
The
most
technologically
advanced
cities
in
the
nation
together
we're
creating
a
platform
of
innovation
with
the
latest
technology
that
will
benefit
the
economy
in
our
society
for
decades.
To
come
with
that,
it's
my
great
pleasure
to
introduce
Boston
chief
information
officer,
Patricia
Boyle
McKenna,
who
plays
a
critical
role
in
all
these
efforts.
B
Hi
good
morning,
thank
you
to
Kyle
and
John
Donna
and
the
rest
of
the
Verizon
team.
We
really
appreciate
all
that
you've
done
and
to
create
this
partnership
and
are
so
eager
to
be
here
today.
As
Kyle
mentioned
two
years
ago,
we
announced
this
partnership
with
Verizon
to
rewire
the
entire
city,
with
advanced
fiber-optic
network
over
the
next
six
years.
B
Today,
we're
back
to
announced
a
stronger
partnership
that
will
accelerate
Boston's
plan
to
be
one
of
the
most
technologically
advanced
cities
in
the
nation
and
we're
thrilled
we're
thrilled
that
this
agreement
will,
between
Verizon
in
the
city
of
Boston,
will
bring
stronger
access
wireless
access
across
the
city
which
will
allow
for
Boston
and
Verizon
to
collaboratively
design
the
future
of
our
city.
Additionally,
this
agreement
ensures
that
there'll
be
choice
in
neighborhoods
for
the
first
time
and
with
the
expansion
of
the
FiOS,
cable
and
internet
for
television.
B
And
lastly,
we
begin
this
partnership,
as
Verizon
promised
three
million
investment,
three
million
dollar
investment
to
build
over
a
100
percent
fiber-optic
network
platform
across
Boston.
This
expansion
now
doubles
that
investment
to
nearly
600
million
dollars
total
an
amazing
advented
investment
that
continues
to
make
Boston
a
smarter
and
more
equitable
city
before
I
have
the
pleasure
of
introducing
mayor
Martin
Walsh,
who
none
of
this
work
could
have
been
possible.
B
I
want
to
send
a
very
sincere
thank
you
to
all
of
the
city
partners,
our
team
and
Verizon's
team,
who
spent
endless
hours
with
one
another
coming
together
to
make
this
agreement
possible
and
to
our
mayor,
your
dedication
and
support
has
been
remarkable.
You
have
made
fibre
a
priority
and
forged
a
strong
partnership
with
Verizon
in
order
to
continue
to
make
the
city
move
forward,
so
our
residents
gonna
have
access
to
the
most
advanced
digital
technology
and
we're
so
excited
for
that.
Mayor,
Walsh.
C
Thank
you
very
much,
Patricia
and
I
want
to
thank
you
and
your
team
who've
done
an
incredible
job
here.
You
know
I'm
blessed.
We
have
a
great
team
at
City
Hall
that
work
on
a
whole
bunch
of
different
initiatives
and
I
just
want
to
thank
a
few
of
them.
Chief
economic
development
offices.
Here
I
want
to
thank
you
John
for
your
role.
You
have
done
chief
of
streets,
Chris
Osgood.
Thank
you,
pres
Chris
Khanna
from
we
call
the
urban
mechanics,
but
they
do
everything.
C
So
thank
you,
Christopher
everything
you
do
I
want
to
thank
Amy
Latimer
at
Delaware
north
and
in
the
the
Bruins
thank
you
and
Charlie
Jacobson
and
Brian
coupe
for
your
great
work,
Dave
Mackay,
who
was
working
in
neighborhood
services,
and
when
we
were
embarking
on
this
conversation
about
with
Verizon.
One
of
the
things
that
we
decided
to
do
is
have
somebody
strictly
working
on
this
on
this
on
this
project.
From
the
permitting
standpoint
and
I
want
to
thank
Dave
Dave's
around
here
somewhere,
the.
C
How
do
we
get
more
speed
and
how
do
we
get
more
services
to
our
city
in
every
single
neighborhood,
and
we
saw
the
conversation
back
in
2013
and
from
that
day,
to
this
day,
it's
amazing
how
far
we've
gone
I
know
I
think
you've
done
it.
I
didn't
see
you
for
Donna
cappella,
Thank,
You
Donna
for
your
friend
get
down
is
wrong,
main
street's
directors
and
everyone
here.
Thank
you.
I
want
to
thank
Verizon,
thank
you
for
to
the
residents
and
the
small
business
owners
that
are
here
from
our
neighborhoods.
C
Thank
you
to
all
the
folks
that
are
here.
Everything
we're
announcing
today
advances
one
goal
to
make
sure
that
all
Bostonians
have
residents
and
residents
have
access
to
the
most
advanced
digital
technology,
both
now
and
in
the
future,
and
here's
what
that
really
means
in
our
city.
It
means
that
possible,
high
school
students
working
on
stem
projects
on
research
papers
will
have
high-speed
Internet
to
access
at
their
home
that
they
didn't
have
before.
C
When
you
think
about
a
21st,
Century
City,
that's
where
we
are
that's
who
we
are
Boston
Massachusetts
at
when
T
first
Century
City,
we're
closing
the
digital
divide,
something
that
is
really
important.
It
means
to
start
up
in
neighborhood
work.
Space
will
have
better
connections
to
the
global
economy,
better
connections
to
their
customers
and
a
better
story
to
share
with
their
investors,
we're
upgrading
the
infrastructure
of
Economic
Opportunity.
It
means
families
in
East
Boston,
for
the
first
time
will
have
options
for
cable,
TV
and
high-speed
Internet.
C
They
can
compare
prices
and
packages
and
help
them
understand
and
get
them
get
a
better
price
for
the
families
that
otherwise
have
been
shut
out
of
this
conversation
and
choose
what
is
the
right
package
for
them
in
their
kids,
we're
bringing
competition
and
customer
choice
to
every
neighborhood
in
the
city
of
Boston.
The
bottom
line
is
that
we're
making
Boston
the
number
one
digital
city
in
the
nation
and
there's
no
question
about
that.
C
We
get
about
250,000
students
from
all
across
America
that
come
to
Boston
to
go
to
college
and
it's
an
opportunity
for
them
to
understand
who
we
are
as
a
city
and
really
think
about
making
making
their
their
life
and
their
investments
here
in
our
city
and
something
that
I
find
really
important
at
a
time
when
cities
must
lead
Boston
is
a
leader
of
cities.
There's
no
question
about
it.
It's
important
that
we
continue
understand
that
as
technology
advances,
this
agreement
will
keep
our
residents
on
the
leading
edge
of
self-service
digital
opportunity.
C
It
will
help
drive
inclusive
growth,
it's
the
core
value
of
our
city's
plan
and
it's
part
of
what
we
did
in
imagine:
Boston
2030
our
first
citywide
master
plan
in
the
city
of
Boston
in
50
years.
At
a
time
we
must
move
forward.
We
get
to
see
Verizon's
plans
for
this
workspace.
As
you
can
see
in
this
new
agreement,
it's
going
to
empower
our
residents
to
keep
innovating
and
keep
leading
for
another
generation
and
before
I,
bring
John
up.
I
just
want
to
thank
Verizon
for
for
your
investments
here
in
our
city.
C
I
want
to
thank
you
for
your
commitment
to
the
city
of
Boston.
I
want
to
thank
you
to
the
commitment
not
just
to
Boston
but
across
the
country.
Rison
is
taking
this
idea
and
going
to
other
cities
across
America
and
I've
had
conversations
to
talk
to
mayors
and
whether
we
realize
or
not.
We
are
in
competition
as
cities
years
ago,
cities
kind
of
did
their
thing
individually
and
they
didn't
really
pay
attention.
What
was
happening
to
the
north
south
east
to
west
of
them?
C
We
don't
really
have
to
worry
about
what's
going
on
the
east
of
us,
because
if
we
do,
we
go
to
Europe
by
the
time
that
happens,
but
we
do
have
to
pay
attention
to
what's
happening
around
the
country
because
we're
in
competition
with
some
incredible
companies
that
we're
trying
to
bring
to
our
city.
This
building
itself
has
recruited
some
incredible
companies
to
be
in
this
building.
That's
going
to
add
to
our
Boston
work,
force,
gonna,
add
to
the
Boston
economy
and
add
to
the
growth
of
our
great
city.
C
So
again,
I
want
to
thank
all
the
people
that
are
here
today.
I
want
to
thank
you
for,
for
whatever
role
you
play
if
you're
a
tech.
Thank
you
if
you're
a
Main,
Street
director.
Thank
you
if
you're,
if
you're
running
a
camera
in
this
room.
Thank
you
thank
you
for
what
you're
doing,
because
it
is
important,
as
we
continue
move
forward
now,
I'm
pleased
to
introduce
John
Vasquez,
the
head
of
global
real
estate
for
Verizon
who's,
going
to
talk
more
about
the
space
that
I
want
to.
Thank
you.
C
John
both
of
you
and
Lowell
and
the
company
for
for
your
commitment
to
our
city,
real
quick.
So
couple
years
ago
we
cut,
we
worked
out
a
negotiation
deal
to
to
bring
fiber
off
the
cable
city
of
Boston
a
few
short
years
later,
we're
talking
about
bringing
a
hub
in
this
very
building,
an
opportunity
for
the
company.
So
it
really
is
a
partnership
and
it's
an
incredible
partnership,
so
John.
Thank
you
very
much
for
everything
you
do
in
the
company.
D
D
You
know
we're
talking
about
a
new
workplace
here,
that's
technology-based
for
us
and
these
16
floors
that
we
have
so
we're
expanding
our
investment
and
presence
in
Boston,
both
financially
technology
illogically,
as
well
as
with
our
commitment
of
people
and
chair
of
mind,
we're
calling
this
Verizon's
next
workplace
and
what
that
means
is
it's
a
live,
work
and
of
innovate,
ecosystem,
that's
really
unmatched
in
the
city
and
leading
for
us
across
the
nation.
So
the
next
work
place
that
will
build
here
really
is
about
creating
an
environment.
D
That's
5g
based,
that's
friction
lists,
allows
you
to
move
around
and
work
and,
most
importantly,
it's
an
environment
that
we're
building
with
our
office
space
here
that
invites
the
community
in
our
innovation
plans,
are
all
about,
including
all
the
entrepreneurs
and
share
of
mind
in
this
great
city,
this
great
educational
hub
in
the
city
of
Boston.
This
is
about
innovating
together.
It
is
not
Verizon
planting
a
flag
and
working
all
by
itself.
D
It
is
exactly
the
opposite
of
that,
so
we're
going
to
create
the
most
connected
city,
an
exciting
neighborhood
in
Boston,
with
a
very
diverse
and
forward-thinking
workforce,
a
place
where
future
technologies
will
be
developed.
Our
space
here
will
include
five
floors
that
are
reserved
for
incubators,
accelerators
and
partners
to
work
together,
the
blocks
themselves,
but
also
to
work
with
Verizon
and
our
Verizon
Capital
and
Verizon
Ventures
operations.
So
it's
a
very
exciting
and
dynamic
space.
We
couldn't
think
of
a
better
project
to
location.
D
To
actually
kick
this
off
in
Boston
to
us
is
clearly
the
epicenter
of
tech,
talent
and
the
goal
is
to
have
it
rival,
Silicon
Valley,
as
the
heart
of
technological
and
digital
innovation.
So
we're
focused
and
committed
to
driving
everything
that
happens
here.
We
will
expand
our
ties
across
the
river
and
Cambridge
and
throughout
Boston
to
attract
the
top
talent
who
specialize
in
these
new
and
emerging
talents
that
we
have
regarding
intelligent
ads
networks,
cloud
computing,
analytics,
augmented
reality
virtual
reality,
business
intelligence.
D
This
is
about
creating
an
ecosystem
of
future
development
that
resides
here
in
Boston.
This
project
in
and
of
itself,
is
remarkable
to
us.
It
was
a
main
attraction
to
working
with
the
Boston
Properties
team
and
the
games
were
team
to
make
it
happen.
So
I
want
to
thank
Doug,
Gansler
and
Brian,
and
his
team
I
want
to
thank
John,
Boyle
and
Josh
curl
off
in
pushing
a
Wakefield
I'm
part
of
it
in
the
extended
verizon
team
that
really
worked
to
bring
all
this
together.
D
There's
a
tremendous
live
music
venue
which
we're
actually
standing
in
right
now:
sports
bar
full-service,
grocery
15
screen
movie
theater
for
private
events,
world-class
hotel
for
Jenna
40-unit
luxury
residential
tower.
We
will
have
on
the
31st
floor
a
roof
deck
that
overlooks
the
city
that
is
open
to
public
groups
joining
us
and
using
that
event
space
as
well,
so
it
is
not
just
for
our
use.
It
is
about
collaboration
and
connection
with
the
community.
The
ground-level
be
connected.
D
A
product
experience
center,
we
will
have
a
retail
center
downstairs,
will
be
connected
with
the
TD
Garden
and
all
the
events
that
occur
here
as
well.
So
we
look
for
that
continued
partnership
with
the
sports
and
concerts
that
we
generate
live
the
fun
day.
The
Verizon
Foundation
will
also
use
the
space
to
host
programs
and
events
related
to
teacher
training,
stem
content
and
connectivity
for
under-resourced
students.
So
again,
this
is
really
a
neighborhood
play
for
us
and
we're
so
excited
about
it.
D
Infrastructure
say
that's:
this
is
something
we're
really
focused
on.
We
can't
wait
till
2021,
so
Brian
you've
been
doing
a
great
job
already
getting
the
building
up
and
running,
and
we're
really
looking
forward
to
the
day
that
we
get
to
move
in
here.
