From YouTube: Urban Agenda Grant Announcement

Governor Baker, Lt. Governor Polito, and Mayor Walsh joined members of the community at Black Market in Roxbury for the announcement of the Urban Agenda Grants program. This funding is provided by the Commonwealth to support community economic development in Boston and beyond.
A
A
A
The
next
nonprofit
market
has
evolved
into
a
transformative
community
space,
where
hundreds
of
thousands
of
dollars
have
been
generated
for
micro
businesses.
Dozens
of
artists
have
showcased
clearly
talents.
Community
activism
in
civic
engagement,
thrive
in
tens
of
thousands
of
patrons
have
passed
through
these
very
doors.
Nubian
square
is
a
state
of
Massachusetts
designated
arts
in
multi
district
and
considered
the
heart
of
the
black
community.
In
Boston
it
was
once
a
vibrant
commercial
district,
the
most
active
shopping
district
outside
of
downtown
proxy
before
removing
all
took
over
both
neighborhoods
in
the
nineteen
sixties,
Downtown.
A
The
quote
is
we
have
to
do
with
the
past
only
as
we
can
make
it
useful
to
the
present
in
the
future.
We
have
to
do
with
the
past
only
as
we
can
make
it
useful
to
the
present
in
the
future.
Being
the
solution
oriented.
Aren't
you
Norse,
we
are.
The
black
market
team
has
led
the
district
in
efforts
of
rebranding
and
helping
that
330-thousand
team
writers
that
come
through
devastation
to
reimagine
this
district
as
a
destination.
A
So
that
they
can
support
local
businesses,
that
will
be
filling
the
Main
Street
storefronts
in
the
next
few
years.
With
the
proper
investment
is
support,
we
are
assisting
the
community.
It
is
real
of
retail,
while
subsequently
assisting
in
our
communities
revelation
of
our
economic
identity
in
connectivity
to
this
Atlas
centric,
culture,
tradition
and
people.
A
The
black
market
concept
was
born
out
in
this
context
of
absence
of
non-disability
and
non-aligned
in
the
scope
of
a
history
of
structural
and
institutional
racism,
which
is
why
it
is
crucial
that
investment
is
made
to
uplift
our
struggling
district,
which
represents
over
25
nations
around
the
globe.
In
today's
retail
lanes
and
in
the
world
of
amazon.
Small
businesses
on
the
Main
streets
front
lead
investment,
partnership
and
support
for
resources,
which
is
by
being
here
today.
So
with
no
further
ado.
I
would
like
to
present
to
you
the
Honorable
mayor,
Marty,
Walsh,.
C
But
via
first
of
all
times
and
Hulk
I
need
the
microphone
and
try
and
I.
Don't
let
you
do
it
well,
but
I
want
to
thank
you
and
I
want
to
thank
you
hosting
us
today.
I
want
to
talk
more
about
you.
The
minute
I
want
to
just
acknowledge
a
few
folks
that
are
in
the
room
today.
Obviously
the
governor,
which
I
Baker
lieutenant
governor
carefully
Dover
with
us
today.
Thank
you
actually.
C
C
C
People
in
the
community,
obviously,
thank
you
very
much.
Thank
you
for
being
with
us
today.
I
wanted
to
take
a
moment
to
congratulate
everyone
here
at
Black
Market
on
the
third
year
of
operation
here
in
new
me
at
scale
and
our
fairing
is
it's
an
incredible
opportunity
and
incredible
addition
to
the
community
and
when
time
talked
about
the
effects,
our
goal
and
what
it
did,
how
the
business
district
that
really
took
off
after
that
and
then
we'll
go
back.
C
It's
actually
true,
and
quite
honestly,
when
the
wine
market
opened
three
years
ago,
I
came
home
the
second
day
of
it
opened
and
the
people
inside
it
we've
all
the
street.
So
many
people
here
and
it's
so
important
that
not
only
do
we
support
the
businesses
for
all
the
visitors
in
the
room
come
back
to
Nubian
square
on
any
day
of
the
week
eat
in
one
of
my
restaurants
shopping.
Our
stores
come
to
our
table
would
make
sure
you
do
that
because
that's
what
makes
a
business
district
right
so
we're
asking.
C
Blackmarket
is
filled
with
women
owned
businesses,
black
on
businesses,
local
businesses,
the
people
that
set
up
shop
in
here
are
from
the
community
and
eventually
someday
that
have
their
own
line
and
their
own
website,
and
all
this
stuff
is
very
big
in
all
the
locations
and
places
all
across
the
country.
And
it's
that's
right
yet
crumb
wealth
in
the
country-
and
it
stops
right
here
in
this,
but
in
this
very
special
place.
This
is
this
social
gathering
location.
C
If
you
look
around
I
see
this
place
this
the
sexual
lubricant
right
here
it
reflects
everything
that
we
love
about
this
neighborhood
and
I'm,
proud
to
see
that
that
black
market
is
doing
an
incredible,
incredible,
credited
well,
I,
don't
want
to
be
sure
everyone's
a
way
that
we
recently
kicked
off.
My
third
annual
Boston
black
restaurant
challenge,
we're
counting
everyone
to
visit
full
length
on
restaurants
during
the
month
of
February.
So
you
have
plenty
of
time
there's
still
month,
1
February
19
days
and
then
innocently
is
the
next
day
next
day.
C
We
get
out
of
that
and
we
have
70
businesses
all
across
the
city
participating
in
this,
and
if
you
want
to
learn
more
about
monster,
black
restaurant
challenge
go
on
Facebook.
You
can
find
you
know
that
the
core
of
who
we
are
as
a
city
and
a
Commonwealth.
We
often
talk
about
companies
to
get
notoriety
of
the
big
companies,
but
it's
our
small
local
business.
That
organizations
is
the
way
that
we
strengthen
our
community
and
ask
for
our
economy.
C
The
businesses
that
employ
people
that
put
in
food
on
people's
table
a
lot
of
people
pay
their
rent
and
their
mortgage
a
lot
of
them
to
pay
their
cupcakes,
allow
them
to
pay
school
with
education
and
opportunities,
and
that's
something
that
we
want
to
continue
to
push.
We
need
to
listen
to
the
needs
of
the
community
and
invest
in
things
that
will
make
the
biggest
impact.
We
need
to
make
sure
that
we
support
our
local
community
driven
programs,
because
we
rely
on
those
programs
to
make
strong.
C
C
It's
a
collaboration
between
the
city
of
Boston,
three
partners
and
the
harmony
of
a
black
market,
Haley
house
and
the
American
see
coalition
the
goals
of
wealth
creation,
small
business
support,
bringing
more
foot
traffic
to
a
Main
Street
area,
especially
on
the
weekends,
to
make
sure
these
businesses
this
districts
of
woman,
another
Korean
tea,
is
right
on
the
street
up
on
the
lam
in
Mattapan,
the
project
is
a
collaboration
between
the
city
of
Arts.
In
the
action
for
equity,
it
focuses
on
job
training
and
career
advancement
for
local
residents.
C
That's
something
that
is
important
for
us
to
make
sure
that
were
training
and
preparing
that
young
people
on
people
for
the
jobs
that
are
happening
right
now.
Action
faculty
has
a
proven
track
record
with
connecting
people
of
color
to
good
jobs
in
our
community,
and
this
grant
will
help
them
build
on
this
success
and
one
of
the
things
that
most
of
you
probably
won't
realize
is
they
helped
increase
in
the
diversity
hires
at
the
Encore
Casino,
something
that
they
got
involved
in
write
the
beginning
to
make
sure
that
people
had
the
opportunity
to
do.
C
We
get
opportunities
to
work
at
the
food,
paying
jobs.
The
casino
both
of
these
programs
are
going
to
help
us
meet
some
of
our
most
impacted
goals,
the
city
of
us,
creating
more
pathways
into
the
middle
class,
something
that
families
want
to
do
supporting
small
and
locally
owned
businesses,
allowing
people
that
opportunity
into
the
middle
class
and
expanding
economic
opportunities
for
residents
so
that
we're
not
having
a
community
that
doesn't
have
opportunity.
Economic
means
to
be
able
to
be
successful
right
now.
C
The
city
of
artisan
is
making
historic
investments
in
affordable
housing,
equity
and
education
and
access
to
transportation.
One
of
our
partners-
and
that
is-
is
the
state
and
quite
honestly,
the
governmental
kind
of
government
and
the
legend
to
make
sure
that
we're
able
to
continue
to
create
great
things
happening.
We
advance
to
big
priorities
and
we
recognize
that
one
size
doesn't
always
fit
all.
C
Sometimes
you
got
to
be
creative
and
I
think
in
a
lot
of
trouble
weeks
within
three
or
four
different
announcements
and
I
was
expecting
rants
into
housing
developments
and
how
many
programs
that
we
wanted
to
expand
housing.
The
legislature
of
the
governor
working
on
transportation,
investments
and
infrastructure,
and
how
do
we
continue
to
make
those
investments
in
transportation
system
and
we
need
to
be
connected
in
all
this
with
the
community-
needs
to
be
part
of
that
as
well.
To
make
sure
we
continue
to
make
these
advances,
we
recognize
the
importance
of
neighborhood
level
programs.
C
C
It's
our
chance
right
now
to
change
the
end
of
the
story,
because
it's
a
book
and
we
can
turn
the
page
under
the
chapters
that
weren't
necessarily
good
and
create
our
own
chapters
and
that's
part
of
the
opportunity
hey
today,
I'm
excited
to
be
here
today:
I'm
excited
to
be
law
of
opportunity,
the
room
and
also
wanted
to
just
thank
I'm
bringing
up
the
next
speaker.
I
want
to
thank
the
next
speaker
for
coming
up
here
because
he's
a
person
that
we
need
when
he
grants
the
government
five
years
ago.
C
C
Honestly,
you
know
not
punishing
last
three
weeks.
This
is
this
veticon
fourth
event
together
and
all
of
those
events
have
been
really
focusing
and
drilling
down
on
opportunities
for
working
people,
whether
it's
creating
housing
and
creating
jobs,
creating
opportunities,
that's
what
it's
all
about,
and
it's
great
to
have
a
partner
when
you
think
about
what's
happening
on
a
national
scale
and
you
think
about
what
it's
not
happening
in
Washington
and
all
the
fighting
going
on
with
a
cane,
even
in
brief,
they
should
repay
the
road.
It's
not
a.
D
D
All
right
no
way
to
go
from
there.
We
start.
First
of
all,
thank
you
for
providing
this
opportunity
for
us
to
all
gather
in
this
very
special
place
and
I
I
do
want
to
say
that
the
reason
the
mayor
and
I
have
been
together
a
whole
variety
of
times,
along
with
people
on
our
team,
is
because
we
are
supporting
many
of
the
same
community
organizations
and.
D
That
is
absolutely
true
today.
The
programs
that
we're
announcing
the
support
for
today
there's
about
23
of
them,
came
out
of
the
urban
agenda
program
that
we've
been
filing
the
legislature
every
year
since
2015,
by
the
way
representing
Sonny
and
I
go
into
any
of
the
staff
would
resonate
and
folks
in
the
Statehouse
who
work
on
the
legislative
side
might
be
here.
I
want
to
thank
you
for
your
continued
support
for
that
program.
D
So
I
was
visiting
that
program
and-
and
they
took
me,
a
walk
took
me
in
a
walk
around
the
neighborhood
different
properties
that
they
develop.
We
also
to
go
walk
through
the
Food
Mart
market
and
and
the
the
garden
the
apartment
that
they
develop
there
and,
as
we
were
coming
back
up
the
street,
we
walked
past
a
dry
cleaner
and
this
woman
looked
out
through
the
window,
and
she
saw
me
so
Wow,
so
she
come
first
thing
out
the
door
by
the
way
the
media
is
with
me.
This
morning
she
comes
bursting
on
to
joy.
B
B
D
That,
with
a
lot
of
the
transformational
work,
we're
doing
with
our
colleagues
and
urban
communities
across
the
Commonwealth
and
the
fact
that
we
made
absolutely
sure
every
single
housing
around
and
every
single
mathworks
round
that
we've
had
a
significant
opportunity
to
make
investments
in
our
cities
in
Massachusetts.
It's
all
part
of
trying
to
make
sure
that
we
create
positivity
and
opportunity
in
as
many
places
the
Commonwealth
as
we
possibly
can.
Mayor
Rivera
has
been
a
terrific
partner
on
a
whole
variety
of
issues.
Tom
has
been
in
the
city
and
Chelsea
has
been
a
terrific
partner.
D
We
are
big
I'm,
a
former
local
official
suppose
Lieutenant
Governor
we're
big
believers
at
at
the
end
of
the
day.
If
we
don't
help,
our
colleagues
and
local
government
would
be
successful,
we
will
never
build
a
great
Commonwealth.
That's
a
huge
part
of
what
a
great
Commonwealth
is
351
communities
that
all
feel
they're
headed
in
the
right
direction,
and
that's
what
today's
announcements
are
about
again.
I
want
to
thank
the
legislature
for
supporting
this
program.
I
want
to
turn
the
mic
over
to
someone
who
doesn't.
B
E
State
representative
and
we
have
communities
from
New,
Bedford
and
Barnstable
here
so
pull
Commonwealth
comes
to
the
neighborhood
today,
which
is
really
exciting
for
us.
I
want
to
thank
the
mayor
and
his
team.
First
leadership
and
I
also
want
to
thank
how
they
get
economic
development
team.
Just
raise
your
hands.
E
Say
congratulations
and
thank
you
for
your
leadership
in
your
respective
community.
I
have
had
the
opportunity,
wonderful
opportunity
to
have
visited
all
351
cities
and
towns
that
make
up
our
beautiful
Commonwealth.
Each
one
is
unique.
Each
one
of
has
its
own
history
and
story
has
its
unique
challenges
and
opportunities,
and
what
I.
E
Program
and
that
it's
really
a
unique
program,
because
it's
designed
to
invite
your
creativity
and
your
ideas
to
help
improve
the
conditions
in
a
place
in
your
community
I
think
the
recognition
from
the
governor
in
that
there's
no
one-size-fits-all.
You
know
what
happens
in
Barnstable,
isn't
necessarily
the
right
thing
for.
E
F
E
Think
it's
a
learning
opportunity
as
well
for
you
to
see
what
other
urban
areas
are
doing
in
their
downtown's
and
Main
streets
as
part
of
this
program
and
I
think
it's
also
a
reflection
of
how
smart
you've
all
become
in
terms
of
stacking
up
the
various
community
grants
that
are
available
I've
seen.
Some
of
you
are
collaborative
workspace
events,
accelerator
micro,
business
kind
of
events,
maybe
thinking
how
to
reposition
your
storefronts
in
your
downtown
I've,
seen.
E
A
F
E
Looking
for
these
opportunities
on
our
community
compact
connector,
so
your
municipal
leaders
will
get
push
notifications
when
new
grants
are
posted
so
that
you
don't
have
to
wonder.
Do
they
have
a
grant
program
here?
Are
their
resources
just
connect
up
with
the
municipal
leads
and
be
able
to
tell
you
when
these
grants
are
available,
so
you
can
collaborate
with
them
and
apply
I?
Also.
A
E
E
Economic
development
plan
that's
going
to
be
filed
with
the
legislature
soon
we're
featuring
partnerships
for
growth
and
clearly
building
on
a
strong
communities
working
within
our
regions
and
clearly
working
with
our
partners
within
the
communities
in
regions
of
our
Commonwealth,
to
make
it
any
better
experience
for
all
people,
and
so
thank
you
for
coming
here
and
physically
today.
I
think,
as
the
mayor
said,
lots
of
opportunities
in
this
neighborhood.
F
F
Governor
I'm
gonna
Dunstable,
we're
totally,
which
means
I,
have
a
short
speech
with
23
applause
lines.
Let
me
pick
up
the
with
the
lieutenant
governor
left,
offering
partnerships
for
growth.
He
would
love
the
title
of
that
land,
be
the
speaks
to
our
ability,
our
ability
to
work
together
to
get
important
things
done.
You
think
about
who's
in
the
room.
F
Today,
most
of
our
administration,
the
legislature,
municipal
leaders,
business
leaders,
community
leaders,
all
working
together
to
advance
in
those
endeavors
I
mean
we
look
at
all
the
projects,
we're
talking
about
funding
today
and
the
little
and
collaboration
between
each
one
of
those
it's
truly
inspiring.
Now,
in
our
plan,
we
we
have
five
key
principles
that
are
going
to
drive
the
work
over
the
next
three
years,
and
one
of
them
is
equitable
opportunity.
F
F
Note
of
the
fact
that
in
this
particular
round
of
the
urban
agenda
program,
we've
prioritized
funding
for
applications
have
proposed
implementation
of
projects
that
address
the
recommendations
of
the
black
Advisory
Commission
and
the
Latino
advisory
commission
established
by
the
governor
in
2017.
So
these
are
wonderful
projects
and
it's
great
to
be
here
so
well,
no
further
ado,
let
me
announce
the
winners
first
$50,000
to
the
city
of
Al,
Gore,
small
business,
Dale
and
private
in
downtown
Attleboro.

G
G
There
are
a
couple
of
people
I'd
like
to
really
acknowledge
today:
I
really
like
to
knowledge,
Joe
Cory
Joseph
is
a
privately
funded.
501,
C,
3
and
Joe
is
the
vision
visionary
behind
this
this
organization.
He
started
this
organization
in
1994
with
really
the
intention
that
a
lot
of
thought,
though,
into
how
we
as
a
group,
can
look
at
issues
that
face
Roxbury
and
can
look
at
gaps
and
look
at
opportunities
and
work
to
fill
in
those
gaps
and
opportunities.
G
Thank
you
very
much.
The
front
row
I'm
max
Michael
next
to
him,
who
also
is
on
the
on
the
border
of
tax
worth
child,
is
in
the
process
of
concluding
a
market
analysis,
but
that
phenom
en
square
and
really
governor
mayor
and
governor.
As
we
looked
at
all
the
stars,
it
looks
very
much
like
a
game,
a
city
and
all
the
strategies
that
you
have
funded
today.
Workforce
development,
micro,
enterprise,
community
building
those
are
all
strategies
that
every
gateway
city
uses
to
help
them
grow.
H
G
4Tt
Square
and
I
think
at
Union
Square
at
that
kind
of
a
square.
We
do
have
flyers
that
we
hope
you
will
take
that
list
all
the
community
events
for
the
next
few
months.
We
have
a
map
which
we
know
people
will
also
take
so
that
you
can
know
where
the
businesses
are,
where
the
restaurants
are
and
really
take
a
walk
around
our
community.
So
thank
you.
B
B
A
Think
this
is
a
very,
very,
very
exciting
time
that
we
have
strong
collaboration
in
regards
to
such
an
important
in
the
hood
and
I'm,
also
inclusive
of
those
other
neighborhoods
that
as
well.
But
this
is
the
time
that
we
have
to
not
just
celebrate
external
investment,
but
really
highlighting
internal
investment
and
giving
them
resources
into
the
hands
of
those
entrepreneurs
watching
canoers
founders
and
dreamers
so
that
they
can
have
an
opportunity
to
change
their
own
neighborhood
again.
That
is
the
narrative
of
black
markets
that
you
give
us
the
tools
and
we
can.
A
If
we
have
the
resources-
and
we
created
our
own
opportunities
for
resources,
we
can
then
use
it
as
a
springboard
for
self-sufficiency,
because
I
think
that's
what's
missing
nowadays,
is
that
the
power
really
comes
from
the
ground
up
and
as
longtime
residents
in
Roxbury
with
a
hundred
years
of
leads
here,
it
was
the
most
importance
for
my
husband,
take
the
baton
and
assist
in
creating
opportunities
for
others
to
reimagine
what
they
can
do.
So
we
are
appreciated
from
A
to
C
that
you
received.
A
H
How's
everyone
doing
square
I'll
be
very,
very
brief,
as
I
congratulate
all
the
leaders
and
I
especially
congratulate
the
three
local
winners
back.
In
addition
for
black
market
tact
about
Haley
house
remodel
represents
at
the
State
House,
although
I've
only
been
there
for
a
year.
Let
me
just
say
that
I
love
the
city,
I
love.
This
neighborhood
I
grew
up
in
Roxbury
Ruth
and
humble
I'm
too
far
from
here.
I.
H
H
H
It
was
a
little
tour
and
he
much
about
the
future
in
what
he
wants
this
place
to
become
that
inspired
a
place
really
dedicated
to
preserving
black
culture
with
black
businesses
serving
the
community
and
count
you
as
a
partner
as
long
enough
around
and
look
forward
to
partnering
with
you
and
learning
from
you.
Also
thank
you
for
the
invitation
and
congratulations
to
get
you
all.
The
grantees.
