From YouTube: One Seaport Square Ribbon Cutting
Description
Mayor Walsh cuts the ribbon on One Seaport Square, a mixed-use development that includes 250,000 square feet of retail, restaurants and entertainment venues. The project also includes 832 units of housing, nearly 100 of which will be affordable.
A
A
Well
good
morning
and
welcome,
thank
you
all
very,
very
much
for
joining
us.
I'll
wait
for
everybody
to
file
out
from
the
warmth
outside
into
the
warmth.
My
name
is
Gianni
CIPA
Smith,
WS
development.
On
behalf
of
our
firm
and
the
entire
project
team,
it's
a
pleasure
to
welcome
you
to
the
ribbon-cutting
for
the
one
seaport
project.
It's
a
great
day,
I'd
like
to
acknowledge
a
couple
of
elected
officials.
A
Earlier,
of
course,
the
mayor
who
we'll
hear
from
shortly
city
council,
a
large
Michael,
Flaherty
and
city
councilor,
elect
edy
Flynn
from
district
to
South
Boston
welcome,
and
thank
you
very
much
for
joining
us.
Gentlemen.
I'd,
like
also
to
acknowledge
our
partners
in
this
project
Heather
but
Julian
from
Berkshire
residential
and
her
team
is
here
and
John
Hines
and
his
whole
team
from
Boston
Global
Investors
PGI
is
here.
As
many
of
you
know,
John
was
the
visionary
behind
this
entire
seaports.
A
We
have
project
going
back
over
ten
years
and
it's
been
our
pleasure
to
be
his
partner
during
that
entire
time
to
work
with
him
on
this
project
as
well.
We'd
also
like
to
recognize
AIG,
our
construction
lender
who's
been
a
pleasure
to
work
with
throughout
this
entire
project
process.
So
thank
you
to
all
of
you
for
joining
us.
This
is
a
very
exciting
day,
not
only
for
the
project
team
and
for
the
project
before
the
South,
Boston,
waterfront
and
the
city
of
Boston
as
a
whole.
A
As
you
look
around
this
ever-changing
neighborhood,
the
Seaport
square
project
is
starting
to
take
shape
with
new
shops
and
places
to
live
and
and
stay
and
enjoy,
but
it's
not
even
a
third
complete
and
even
with
today's
opening,
not
even
25%,
of
the
total
retail
and
restaurant
space
in
this
neighborhood
that
will
be
opening
in
the
coming
years.
That
would
be
complete.
A
So
this
is
just
the
tip
of
the
iceberg
as
it
relates
to
retail
and
shopping
here
in
the
district
and
over
time
as
new
buildings
come
online
as
new
public
realm
improvements,
roadway
improvements
come
online.
All
of
the
pieces
will
start
to
be
stitched
together
into
a
great
21st
century
urban
neighborhood
right
here
in
the
South
Boston
waterfront
specific.
Today's
event,
I
think
it's
important
to
take
a
moment
with
so
many
headlines
nationally
about
the
challenges
facing
the
retail
industry
just
to
take
a
moment
to
reflect
in
what
we're
doing
here.
A
We're
opening
over
200,000
feet
of
great
urban
retail
in
a
great
American
city
and
showing
that,
even
in
this
challenging
environment,
great
retail
can
survive
and
thrive
in
a
city
like
Boston,
and
this
is
retail
of
all
different
sizes.
All
different
types
for
all
different
kinds
of
people
and
I.
Think
that
sends
a
very,
very
powerful
message
about
this.
A
The
state
of
the
city
of
Boston,
the
state
of
the
South
Boston
waterfront
from
an
an
economic
perspective,
and
it's
important
to
point
out
that
the
new
business
is
opening
today
and
over
the
past
month
and
in
coming
months,
will
create
almost
a
thousand
permanent
jobs,
2,000
jobs
that
create
opportunities
for
a
thousand
individuals
and,
by
extension,
a
thousand
families
and
that's
what
this
project
and,
by
extension,
the
whole
waterfront
is
all
about.
This
is
a
huge
undertaking,
of
course,
as
a
project
and
I.
A
A
couple
of
folks
in
the
Public
Works
Department,
Amy
cording
to
outlining
and
power
chasing
it
here,
and
thank
you
to
you
for
all
of
your
work
on
this
project
as
well
to
help
to
bring
it
to
reality.
So
thank
you
and
finally,
we'd
like
to
say
thank
you
to
all
the
businesses
who
have
joined
us
in
this
great
adventure
or
made
such
a
large
commitment
to
this
place.
You
all
are
the
best
at
what
you
do
in
your
industry.
You
could
have
chosen
to
go
anywhere
in
the
country.
A
You
could
have
chosen
to
go
anywhere
in
the
city
and
yet
you
chose
Boston,
and
you
chose
this
place
to
embark
on
this
great
adventure
with
us.
So
thank
you.
This
is
something
really
unique,
not
only
in
Boston
but
in
America,
and
it's
already
starting
to
redefine
the
way
Bostonians
think
not
just
about
the
South
Boston
waterfront,
but
about
their
city
as
a
whole,
and
that's
that's
very
important.
I'll
just
add
we're
thrilled
to
have
so
many
great
local
business.
A
People
join
us
that
as
part
of
this
project,
everyone
from
from
Stewart
and
Barry
Siegel
and
mr.
SIDS
Patrick
Lyons
at
Kings
mr.
Tom
Kershaw
from
75
Joe
Farrow
with
Tuscan
kitchen,
ed
cane
and
Joe
cane
and
Randy
from
big
night
entertainment.
These
are
all
the
terrific
local
business
people
who
have
made
the
choice
to
join
us
on
this
adventure.
A
So
it's
a
thought
that
the
the
rest
of
the
speaking
program
like
to
introduce
one
of
our
small
business
owners,
who's,
a
consummate
local
entrepreneur,
Andrew
L,
say
F
from
Seaport
barbershop,
which
just
opened
up
on
northern
Avenue
just
around
the
corner,
never
owned
his
own
business
before,
but
we're
very
happy
to
to
welcome
and
to
our
project
open
a
shop
with
us,
and
that
gives
a
great
haircut
by
the
way.
Thank
you,
Andrew
and
and
really
embodies
what
this
project
and
what
this
neighborhood
is
all
about.
A
B
Hello,
everyone
I'm,
not
a
you
solidus,
going
on,
but
I'd
like
to
thank
everyone.
Ws1
seaport
for
the
support,
like
you
said,
my
name
is
Andrew
Ali
saya
I'm,
owner
of
a
small
business
seaport,
Barbara's
right
around
the
corner
on
northern
half
here
right
here
in
the
fastest
growing
community
Inn
in
Boston
seaport
fan,
pier
although
I'm
labeled
as
a
small
business
ws
and
all
of
my
neighbors
Kings
Tuscan,
the
grand
they've
all
made
me
feel
like
a
major
addition
to
the
Seaport
and
I'm
happy
for
that.
B
I've
been
in
the
hair
industry
for
over
25
years
as
a
professional
master,
barber
I've
cut
thousands
and
thousands
of
heads,
but
coming
to
the
Seaport
made
me
feel
like
a
new
barber
I
appreciate
all
the
support
everybody's
given
me
ws
and
their
entire
team
has
brought
new
life
to
the
Seaport.
With
this
project,
I
don't
even
know
how
to
express
myself,
there's
nothing
that
can
stop
you.
If
you
want
something,
that's
what
people
need
to
know.
A
small
business
man
like
myself.
B
With
all
the
major
additions
to
seaport
square
and
little
old
me
coming
in
I'm
so
happy
to
have
the
opportunity
to
serve
the
Seaport
and
fan
pier
as
your
local
barbershop,
their
entire
team
has
brought
new
life
to
Boston's
Seaport
like
I
said,
and
it's
definitely
made
me
understand
that
if
you
want
something
in
life,
there's
nothing
that
could
stop
you.
So,
ladies
and
gentlemen,
mostly
gentlemen,
feel
free
to
come
by
get
a
hot
lather
shave
haircut,
we're
open
7
days
a
week,
we're
right
around
the
corner.
A
Good
Thank
You
Mandy
Andrew.
Thank
you
very
much.
He
does
give
a
great
haircut.
They
can
make
me
looking
you
make
anybody
look
good.
So
please
stop
in
and
visit
him
anytime
now
like
to
introduce
City
Council
large
Michael,
Flaherty
who's
served
the
entire
city
of
Boston
since
1999
on
the
City
Council
has
been
a
great
partner
of
ours
as
we
developed
a
soft
Boston
waterfront
together,
councilor.
C
Thank
you
said
the
opportunity
to
welcome
you
all
here
to
the
South
Boston
waterfront
on
behalf
of
congressman
Lynch
and
Senate
4e
representative
Collins
in
our
newly
elected
City
Council
of
Eddie
Flint
is
here
as
well,
so
round
of
applause
for
Eddie
and
working
as
a
team.
It's
a
collaborative
effort.
C
I
had
the
benefit,
obviously
of
speaking
on
behalf
of
all
the
elected
officials
as
the
South
Boston
waterfront
continues
to
transform,
but
and
this
project
in
general
this
area
this
was,
we
were
sensing
that
stuff
was
starting
to
kind
of
lag
behind
and
if
I
could
give
credit
to
a
couple
people,
it
was
the
mayor
of
our
city
calling
and
saying
this
is
important.
This
is
important
to
me.
This
is
important
to
our
city.
C
So
I'm
excited
to
be
here
excited
to
be
part
of
the
sort
of
the
cog
in
the
wheel,
but
the
real
credit
should
go
to
our
mayor,
his
stick-to-itiveness,
about
making
sure
that
the
process
was
being
fully
equity,
fully
executed,
but
also
getting
Jeremy
involved
in
it
and
and
now
we're
here
today.
So
as
a
result,
so
congratulations
to
WS.
Also
congratulations
to
our
mayor
continues
to
move
our
city
forward.
It's
just
involvement
about
rolling
up
the
sleeves
and
getting
to
the
finish
line.
So,
thank
you
all
for
your
time
and
attention.
A
Thank
you
very
much
counselor
many.
Many
of
us
who
grow
up
here
remember
that
until
not
very
long
ago,
this
side
of
the
waterfront
there
wasn't
a
whole
lot
going
on.
Besides
maybe
Anthony's
the
Children's
Museum
and
Victoria
Station
and
The
Barking
crab
that
all
changed
in
2013
2013
was
a
very
good
year
for
the
South
Boston
waterfront
and
for
the
city
as
a
whole
in
that
year,
late
that
year,
the
first
of
the
seaports
where
projects
broke
ground
that
was
the
Envoy
hotel,
but
more
importantly
in
that
late.
A
That
year,
mayor
Walsh
was
elected
to
his
first
term
as
mayor
and
since
that
time,
under
his
leadership,
there's
been,
as
everybody
knows,
an
incredible
pattern
of
economic
growth,
housing
creation
of
employment,
opportunity
creation,
not
just
in
South
Boston
waterfront
but
citywide,
and
that's
a
pattern
that
we're
thrilled
to
have
continued
into
his
leadership.
So
the
entire
landscape
down
here
has
changed
in
just
a
few
short
years
as
council
flower
t
alluded
to,
and
so
it's
a
pleasure
to
welcome
the
Maine
here
this
afternoon
to
us
say
a
few
words.
The
mayor
welcome.
D
Thank
you
very
much.
Johnny
and
I
want
to
thank
everyone
for
being
here
today.
I
want
to
thank
council
Flaherty
for
his
words.
I
know
he's
gonna
leave
in
a
minute,
but
I'm
gonna
be
quick,
so
we
can
cut
the
ribbon,
but
I
also
want
to
thank
him
for
his
leadership.
I
look
forward
to
working
with
the
new
City
Council
Eddie
Flynn.
Congratulations
that
feel
great
work.
Jeremy's
claw
who's
been
a
great
partner
here
with
the
city.
D
I
want
to
thank
you,
Jeremy
and
Jeremy's
wife's,
actually
from
Southie,
so
he's
half
salty
and
a
lot
of
bad
didn't
know
that
till
just
now,
from
G
Street
I
think
he
said:
K
Street,
okay.
So
that's
why
I
wonder
why
he's
getting
all
kinds
of
support
in
the
over
here
he's
half
salty?
So
it's
good
to
see
you
I
want
to
thank
John
Mariotti
and
associates
the
contractor
and
the
construction
in
the
building
trades,
men
and
women
that
are
here
today.
Thank
you
very
much
for
for
your
great
work
as
well.
D
I
want
to
congratulate
Andrew
on
a
new
business
here.
Alice
a.m.
and
I
look
forward
to
our
coming
by
a
shop
and
to
all
the
business
owners,
local
business
owners,
those
of
you
that
are
trying
this
for
the
first
time
or
those
either
they've
been
here
for
a
while
in
our
city.
Thank
you.
Thank
you
for
keeping
your
business
model
here
and
thank
you
for
taking
a
shot
here
at
the
waterfront.
The
Seaport
square
certainly
becoming
a
24-hour
neighborhood.
It's
a
becoming
a
place
where
families
can
can
can
raise.
D
D
This
project
adds
a
quarter
million
square
feet
of
retail
and
it's
the
largest
retail
project
in
Boston
to
open
in
decades,
and
that's
that's
the
also
exciting
it's
a
new
gateway
to
the
South
Boston
waterfront
and
for
business
owners
like
Andrew.
It's
a
gateway
for
more
customers
in
fast-growing
neighborhoods
and
allowing
people
the
opportunity
to
really
get
get
based
here.
Michael
talked
about
the
construction,
jobs
million
thousand
construction
jobs
on
this
project
alone
and
there's
still
obviously
many
construction
workers
working
here,
800
permanent
jobs
for
the
jobs
of
the
future.
D
So
I
want
to
thank
you
as
well
for
that
and
many
of
the
employees
that
we're
talking
about
live
right
here
in
South
Boston
and
all
over
this
neighborhood
we're
adding
retail
housing
green
space
and
more.
We
recently
celebrated
the
completion
of
832
units
of
new
housing
next
door,
our
shrine
of
late,
the
lady
of
good
voyages
across
the
street.
D
Here
we
have
Martin's
park
down
the
street
as
well,
which
were
under
construction
now,
so
we
are
looking
and
seeing
how
we
continue
to
have
smart
growth
in
our
city
and
smart
growth
is
a
healthy
mix
of
retail
housing,
entertainment,
workspace
and
open
space,
and
that's
what
that's?
What
a
lot
of
the
stuff
Boston
waterfront
is
seeing
here
as
well.
D
This
is
the
Seaport
tells
the
story
of
our
city.
The
Seaport
right
now
is
hitting
its
stride.
It
represents
the
future
future
economy
here
in
Boston,
it's
powering.
Our
cultural
innovation
has
become
Boston's
calling
card,
and
it's
an
innovation.
That's
spreading
all
across
different
neighborhoods
in
the
city
of
Boston,
so
I'm
proud
that
we
took
this
bold
vision
here
on
the
South
Austin
waterfront
and
made
their
reality
and
we're
replicating
it
throughout
the
entire
city.
So
again,
I
just
want
to
thank
WS
development
Jeremy.
Thank
you
for
your
support.
D
I
want
to
thank
John,
Moriarty
and
associates.
I
want
to
thank
all
the
business
owners
that
are
here.
I
should
stop
naming
you
all,
but
if
I
did
at
least
something
I'll
get
in
trouble.
Thank
you
for
your
investments
in
our
city.
Thank
you,
for
you.
Do
every
single
day,
I
want
to
thank
everyone
who
brought
one
seaport
and
all
of
this
Seaport
Square
to
life
and
I'm,
proud
what
we've
been
able
to
achieve
in
our
city
with
that
I'm
going
to
turn
it
back
over
to
Yanni.
