From YouTube: Dine Out Boston Kickoff 2018
Description
Mayor Marty Walsh helps kick off Dine Out Boston 2018 (formerly known as Restaurant Week Boston) at the Union Oyster House and announces this years charitable partner, MLK Boston. Dine Out Boston occurs twice a year and allows people to sample local restaurants at special prices for lunch or dinner.
A
A
As
for
us,
its
reputation
as
a
culinary
destination
grew.
We
thought
we
wanted
to
focus
on
the
board,
bus
and
dining
out
west
and
that
we
have
great
options:
great
opportunities
for
you
and,
more
importantly,
when
we
started
Restaurant
Week
18
years
ago,
this
coming
August,
it
was
for
five
days
only.
It
was
broad
lunch.
We
have
32
restaurants.
I
was
saying
to
David
koala
this
morning
that
we
had
to
beg
between
Joe
Milano
Stevie
felipĆ£o
in
David
Koala.
A
We
had
a
beg
about
28
of
those
restaurants
and
please
give
this
a
shot
and
try
it
out,
but
it
grew
from
30
to
restaurants
to
over
a
hundred
and
forty.
Now
we
do
it
twice
a
year.
We
do
it.
Two
weeks
we
started
with
only
lunch.
We
do
it
lunch
and
dinner,
so
you
can
see
that
the
concept
broadened
out
and
we
thought
restaurant
week
and
it
didn't
really
define
what
we
were
doing
in
the
Boston
Common.
A
Any
seen
have
changed
dramatically
and
we
wanted
a
highlighted,
so
we
changed
the
brand
of
it
and
everybody
says
you
never
should
have
changed
the
past
so
anyway,
but
never
win
on
these
things.
But
diner
Boston
is
our
working
name
and
we're
here
today
going
to
kick
it
off
and
every
into
a
charitable
partner
for
our
dining
out
Boston
program,
so
we're
gonna
you're
going
to
hear
from
them
in
a
few
minutes.
A
But
I
now
have
the
opportunity
in
great
pleasure
to
introduce
mega
Walsh,
who
has
been
an
amazing
person
he
and
his
team
and
his
staff,
the
administration
and
supporting
our
visitor
industry
and
from
whether
its
restaurants,
whether
it's
a
history
in
culture
or
that's,
our
international
marketing.
We
can
always
count
on
him
to
help
and
support
us.
So,
mr.
mayor,
thank
you
for
joining
us
thanks
Pat.
Thank
you
very
much.
I.
B
Want
a
lot
first
of
all
thank
Pat
and
his
team
and
Kathy
and
everybody
at
the
Greater
Boston
visitors
and
convention
Visitors
Bureau
for
their
great
work.
They
do
incredible
work
in
our
city
and
we're
fortunate
and
lucky
to
have
them.
I
want
to
thank
Paul
English
who's
here
with
us
today,
who
was
the
father
of
MLK
Boston,
which
I'll
talk
about
Paul,
Newman
and
Robin
is
the
Decker
director.
Thank
you
very
much.
I
want
to
thank
Joel
and
Union
Oyster
House
for
having
us
today.
B
We're
excited
to
be
here
it's
great
to
be
kicking
off
dining
out.
Boston
2018
I.
Remember
when,
when
Pat
talked
about
Sally
in
this
program
in
Boston,
I,
remember
hearing
it
as
a
rep
at
the
time
and
then
they
came
to
the
neighborhoods
of
Dorchester
and
people
thought
it
was
incredible.
All
the
restaurants
and
dogs
do
the
same
thing
and
the
restaurants
will
fall
and
it
was
an
opportunity
really
to
to
highlight
the
restaurants
we
had
at
the
time,
and
since
that
time
we
have
other
great
restaurants
in
our
cities.
B
So
I'm
encouraging
people
to
go
out
and
explore
the
city
of
Boston
go
and
explore
the
restaurants
in
the
downtown
area,
go
and
explore
the
restaurants
in
the
neighborhoods
well
and
shopping
your
Main
Street
District,
something
that
is
really
important
and
we're
exciting.
The
stocks
August
5th
residents
and
visitors
will
have
a
chance
to
to
try
out
our
world-class
cuisine.
B
Events
like
this,
they
enrich
our
culture,
dining
out.
Boston
encourages
people
to
visit.
Other
parts
of
the
city
and
I
would
say
the
same
thing
we
need.
This
is
a
chance
not
that
once
you
have
Michelle
here
at
nice
house,
because
we
want
you
here,
but
it
also
gives
you
a
chance
to
go
in
the
neighborhoods
and
really
get
a
chance
to
see
some
incredible
and
take
some
different
foods
from
different
cultures
in
our
neighborhood.
So
it's
an
opportunity
to
do
all
that,
and
so
thank
you
for
that.
B
Dino
doesn't
even
more
in
Boston
every
time
this
happens
as
Patrick
mentioned.
There's
a
charlatan
partner
in
this
in
this
process,
and
and
and
this
year's
Dinah
off
partner
is
raising
money
for
MLK
Boston.
Those
of
you
that
saying
what's
MLK
Boston
MLK
Boston
is
a
group
of
folks
started
by
Paul
English
and
philanthropist.
Moonshadow
Paul
are
working
on
designing
a
major
public
memorial
to
dr.
King
and
Coretta
Scott
King,
and
we're
excited
about
that.
B
There's
been
today
hundreds
I
think
of
meetings
that
Paul
has
had
with
the
committee
in
different
communities
in
our
city.
Some
of
those
meetings
were
big
meeting.
Some
of
those
meetings
are
small
little
conversations,
but
this
conversations
been
going
on
for
far
too
long
in
our
city
and
when
Paul
and
Paul
I,
don't
wanna,
say
stepped
up
because
he
didn't
have
to
do,
but
when
Paul
offered
I
his
support,
it
really
itches
just
taking
off
and
I
want
to
thank
everyone.
This
is
gonna,
encourage
a
conversation
and
understand
the
honors
of
dr.
B
King
and
the
Kings,
both
of
them
their
legacy
in
their
connection
to
our
city
and
their
contributions
to
equality.
That's
still
still
very
much
alive
today,
I
can't
think
of
a
better
project
to
support
this
year
than
this
particular
project.
I
want
to
give
big
thanks
to
all
the
sponsors.
I
want
to
thank
the
Greater
Boston
Convention
and
Visitors
Bureau
I
want
to
thank
our
funding
partner,
American
Express
I
want
to
thank
Beasley
Corporation
in
their
stations,
country,
102.5
and
hot
96.9.
I
want
to
thank
Dino,
Boston
and
I
know.
B
This
is
going
to
be
I.
Don't
have
to
ask
for
to
be
a
successful
hope
that
the
news
community
says
I
know
it's
gonna,
be
a
success
because
it
always
says
and
I
look
forward
to
everyone
enjoying
food
and
great
food
and
in
the
city
of
Boston
and
and
I
look
forward
to
enjoy
the
event
you
know
this
is
when
you
think
about
what's
what's
happening
in
the
world
today.
B
What
MLK,
Boston
is
doing
is
an
opportunity
really
to
remember
the
past
and
think
about
moving
for
in
the
future
and
there's
not
a
better
time.
There
can't
be
a
better
there's,
really
not
much
better
partnership
than
dinah
Boston
and
MLK
Boston
I
want
to
thank
everyone
is
here
today,
thank
you
for
being
here
today
and
I'll
turn
it
back
over.
That.
A
Mayor
said,
I
hadn't
met
Paul
before
today,
but
I
certainly
read
about
him
because
in
the
travel
space
he
has
done
some
amazing
things
in
so
I
had
to
Google
to
kind
of
understand
a
little
bit
about
what
he's
doing
and
the
great
terminology
they
used
was
he's
a
serial
entrepreneur
and
I
would
say
to
my
wife.
We
were
talking
about
it
because
kayak,
which
he
created
my
son,
my
wife.
We
use
it
all
the
time
and
my
son
lives
in
Denver.
A
So
we're
always
looking
for,
like
the
best
way,
the
most
inexpensive
way
to
get
out
there.
But
the
point
is
that
they
talked
about
him
and
then
he
so
he
took
that
company
and
then
so
bad,
and
then
he
moved
into
a
new
company
in
the
travel
space
and
I
just
saw
her
apartment
history
magazines.
The
other
day
you
cuz
I'm,
like
now
sort
of
refocusing
what
its
gonna
do
and
all
that
kind
of
thing
it's
great.
So
actually,
as
I
was
saying
to
my
wife
about
this,
is
basically
you
know
in
a
few.
C
A
They're
not
only
going
to
say
serial
entrepreneur
but
philanthropist
extraordinaire
in
terms
of
what
you've
done
when
the
mayor
said,
all
these
meetings
I
was
reading
about
them,
as
you
would
go
to
these
meetings
and
the
whole
thing
trying
to
decide
where
this
statute
would
go
and
the
other
elements
that
you
guys
created
for
a
resist
remarkable.
So
we
really
wanted
to
have
you
as
our
partner.
Probably
so,
I
wanted
to
come.
Everybody
thanks!
Thank
you.
Thanks
a.
D
Lot,
everyone
I
know:
I'm
gonna,
be
eating
out
a
lot
I
guess
the
fifth
to
the
10th
and
the
top
of
the
17,
so
I'm
pretty
excited
about
that.
I'll
go
to
the
website
to
see
where
to
go.
Robin
and
I
are
really
honored
to
have
em,
okay,
boss
and
chosen
as
a
CEA's
recipient
or
a
non-profit.
For
the
event,
the
event
is
really
important
to
me.
We
started
the
project
back
in
September,
I've
been
a
fan
of
dr.
King's
work
since
I
grew
up
in
West,
Roxbury
I
think
I
was
probably
12
years
old.
D
Before
someone
read
him
and
not
all
Bostonians
know
that
how
important
Boston
is
in
the
history
of
dr.
King
and
Coretta
Scott
King
then
met
hey,
there's
a
love
story.
She
was
a
student,
they
doing
the
conservatory.
A
lot
of
his
foundational
writings
was
done
here.
While
he
got
his
PhD
at
Boston
University.
Some
of
his
main
influencers
came
from
Boston
and
we
want
to
memorialize
it
time
together
and
also
think
about
if
dr.
King
was
still
alive
today.
What
would
he
be
working
on
particular
in
the
city
of
Boston?
D
So
the
mayor
talked
about
the
memorial
which
we're
going
to
be
building
on
the
Boston
Common.
The
update
on
that
is.
We
had
126
artist.
Teams
from
around
the
world
apply
to
be
considered
for
designing
the
memorial,
we're
very
distinguished
our
committee,
led
by
Kerry
good
fellow
in
the
city
of
Boston
and
Mary
Gaither
for
the
National
Center
for
african-american
artists
in
Roxbury,
and
we've
narrowed
it
down
to
five
finalists
we're
giving
them
the
summer
to
come
up
with
their
designs.
D
What
their
proposal
is
for
the
Boston
Common
and
then
we're
going
to
exhibit
their
proposals
at
the
Boston
Public
Library
for
the
month
of
September
to
get
the
public
one
month
to
give
input.
We're
not
gonna
let
the
color
code,
because
that
doesn't
produce
good
public
art.
But
we
definitely
want
input
and
our
committee
will
then
look
at
that
input
and
announce
a
winner
that
we
will
commission
and
do
the
work
with
them
outside
of
November.
And
then
it's
probably
12
to
18
months
before
the
Moreau
is
constructed.
D
In
addition
to
the
memorial
in
the
common.
We're
also
beginning
plans
now
for
pretty
exciting
project
in
Roxbury.
For
now
we're
calling
it
the
MLK
Leadership
Center
and
what
we
want
to
do
is
train
and
equip
activists
who
want
to
make
change
in
the
city
and
if
you
look
at
just
some
of
the
issues
that
dr.
D
King
fought
for
in
the
50s
and
60s,
some
of
those
issues
still
exist
in
the
city
today,
in
terms
of
issues
around
economic
fairness
and
housing
and
education,
healthcare,
jobs
and
we
want
to
help
activists,
train
them,
give
them
information
and
give
them
funding.
So
they
can
work
on
these
issues
with
the
city
with
other
groups
around
the
city.
So
that'll
be
the
second
really
important
part
of
this
project.
If
you
want
to
learn
more
about
the
project,
we
have
a
website
that
I
update
almost
daily.
D
A
A
So
we
are
I'm
gonna
introduce
Kathy,
but
I
just
want
to
remind
you
that
when
this
is
over
we're
going
to
take
some
ceremonial
pictures
with
the
check
the
Dino
from
the
Dino
fosston,
the
convention
Visitors
Bureau.
So
we
have
a
Czechia.
So
you
quote
the
you,
the
mayor
in
American
Express
and
take
a
couple
of
pictures
so
just
hanging
in
so
now
Kathy's
our
senior
vice
president
at
the
Convention
and
Visitors
Bureau.
It's
Kathy
and
her
team
that
have
organized.
D
A
C
You
good
morning,
Dino
Boston
ten
days
away,
go
to
Dinah
Boston
calm,
to
make
your
reservations.
As
Paul
said,
the
dates
are
August
5
through
10
and
12
through
17
this
year.
The
restaurants
have
options
to
create
different
menus
based
upon
price
points,
so
for
lunch,
it's
15
dollars,
20
or
25,
and
for
dinner
it's.
C
So,
in
addition,
we
have
Harriet
diamond
here
from
Buddha
sin'
and
she
has
been
working
with
the
restaurants
and
partnering
with
the
Bureau
once
again
to
encourage
them
to
have
healthy
food
options
for
their
patrons,
so
gluten-free
menus,
low
salt
menus,
won't
fat
menus
and
so
forth.
So
Harriet,
thank
you,
and
this
is
Harry.
In
addition,
I
want
to
encourage
people
when
you
are
dining
out
to
go
visit.
