From YouTube: Ukrainian Flag Raising Event 2022
Description
August 24th marks the 31st Anniversary of the Independence of Ukraine, as well as the six-month anniversary of the war between Russia and Ukraine. Join in as the Ukrainian flag is raised over City Hall Plaza, marking a solidarity between Bostonians and the people of Ukraine who have added so much to our city through their culture, work ethic, and spirit over the past 150 years.
A
Today
is
a
special
day
because
it
is
also
the
anniversary
of
the
six
months
now
of
the
war
that
has
recently
started
of
the
escalation
of
the
escalation
of
russia's
aggression
against
ukraine.
A
So
it's
a
momentous
day,
but
we
are
here
to
commemorate
both
the
ukrainian
community
and
its
contributions
to
boston
and
also
to
remember
all
of
those
who
have
sacrificed
and
fought
for
freedom,
and
especially
at
this
moment
in
ukraine,
on
the
front
line.
So
I
would
ask
for
a
moment
of
silence.
If
you
could.
Please
stand.
A
A
Thank
you,
father,
roman
okay.
We
as
tradition
are
going
to
sing
the
american
anthem.
The
flag
is
already
up,
but
we're
going
to
do
that
is
going
to
lead
us
or
she's
going
to
perform
the
american
anthem.
B
B
B
A
Thank
you
very
much.
Okay
and
now
we
will
proceed
to
the
ukrainian
anthem
and
the
raising
of
the
flag.
We
have
two
children
from
the
ukrainian
school
who
are
going
to
do
that
and
slidwala
and
I'm
sorry,
I
don't
have
your
name
written
down.
You
can
sustain
a
valeria
and
well.
Yes,
both
students
at
berkeley
are
going
to
lead
us
in
the
ukrainian
anthem,
but
we
would
really
appreciate
the
entire
audience
participate.
D
D
A
Thank
you
very
much,
excellent.
Okay,
please!
You
can
be
seated.
I
have
the
honor
and
the
pleasure
of
introducing
the
mayor
of
boston,
michelle
wu.
E
Of
you
all
might
know
that
it's
been
a
little
bit
of
time
since
we
have
had
many
flag
raisings
here
at
city
hall.
We
in
fact
were
on
a
pause
for
the
better
part
of
a
year,
and
so
this
is
one
of
the
first
flag
raisings
that
we
are
doing
as
as
the
city
council
has
led
the
way
in
revamping
the
program
and
there
could
be
no
more
meaningful
community
to
be
celebrating
with
and
to
be
standing
tall
with.
E
E
Boston
ukrainian
community
has
a
long,
proud
history
here
and,
as
the
past
several
months
have
shown
an
equally
proud
and
passionate
present
and
support
and
relationships
of
all
of
our
communities.
Here,
following
the
invasion
in
february,
boston's
ukrainian
community
sprang
into
action
raising
millions
of
dollars
in
aid
hosting
events
and
protests
working
with
leaders
at
every
level
of
government
to
ensure
that
we
would
all
stand
united
and
residents
across
boston
from
all
backgrounds
and
communities
have
come
together
to
stand
in
solidarity
with
ukraine
and
the
cause
of
freedom.
E
In
honor
of
that
commitment,
the
city
of
boston
is
issuing
this
official
proclamation
for
ukrainian
independence
day,
and
we
are
proud
to
ensure
that
the
city
council
also
is
is
presenting
a
proclamation
so
that
we
stand
united
across
city
government.
We
celebrate
this
day
in
boston
to
demonstrate
that
we
are
united
in
our
struggle
to
preserve
our
freedoms.
Today
and
every
day,
our
hearts
are
with
all
those
here
in
boston
across
the
country
and
around
the
world,
and
especially
in
ukraine,
who
are
continuing
to
fight
the
forces
of
oppression
wherever
they
appear.
A
Okay,
thank
you
very
much.
That
was
excellent.
Next,
I'm
going
to
introduce
the
chairman
of
the
city
council,
michael
cloudy,
avi,
jim
flynn,
I'm
sorry!
It's
been
a
long.
G
Day,
thank
you.
I'm
I'm
honored
to
be
here
with
my
colleagues,
aaron
murphy
city,
councilor
and
council
of
larry
and,
of
course,
mayor
wu
and
want
to
say
thank
you
to
mayor
wu
for
leading
us
in
in
boston,
but
also
leading
in
making
sure
that
the
voices
of
the
ukrainian
community
is
heard
here
in
the
city
heard
in
the
state.
That
boston
has
always
been
a
city.
F
G
C
C
G
H
Thank
you,
council
president,
it's
great
to
be
here
and
yet
to
miss
ukrainian
flag
raising.
So
I
appreciate
your
response
to
the
council's
proclamation
coming
down
the
big
numbers
and.
H
Thanks
to
the
ukrainian
community
that
we
pride
ourselves
here
in
boston
being
a
city
of
immigrants
and
we
pride
ourselves
in
our
city's
diversity
and
the
ukrainian
community
lends
a
great
deal
to
them.
So
thank
you
for
your
continued
commitment
to
our
city
and
for
all
the
value
that
you
add.
It's.
F
H
An
opportunity
for
us
to
recommit
our
solidarity
to
you
and
to
your
people
to
your
country
as
it
pertains
to
what's
going
on
over
there.
I
can't
believe
it's
been
six
months,
but
putin
and
the
russian
forces.
So
as
an
american
government,
we
can
and
should
be
doing
more.
H
It's
up
to
us
to
continue
to
put
pressure
on
our
government
to
continue
to
give
ukrainian
people
in
ukraine
the
resources
they
need
to
defend
themselves
and
to
restore
their
freedom
and
independence,
and
so
with
that,
thank
you
again
for
your
contributions
to
our
city
and
let's
stand
together
in
solidarity
and
continue
to
work
and
fight
on
behalf
of
the
ukrainian
people.
Thank
you,
and
god
bless
you
all.
C
Thank
you,
council
of
flaherty,
and
thank
you
mayor
woo,
for
your
inspiring
words
and
to
my
colleagues
also.
So
america
has
always
been
welcoming,
especially
boston.
Our
shores
have
welcomed
so
many
people.
My
grandparents
came
here
in
the
late
1800s
early
1900s
from
ireland.
They
were
scared,
they
were
alone
and
they
left
so
much
back
home.
So
it's
so
important
that
I
always
remember
that
those
of
you
who
have
made
boston
your
home.
We
love
that
you're
here
you're
part
of
our
communities,
our
neighborhoods
you're.
C
What
make
us
strong
and
rich
and
for
all
of
you
who
are
sad
and
thinking
about
your
homeland
back
home,
know
that
we
are
on
the
council,
and
I
know
the
mayor's
office
also
and
the
whole
city
is
with
you
supporting
you
through
this
hard
time,
and
it's
also,
as
mayor
wu,
said
the
one
of
the
first
flag
raising
since
we've
taken
a
pause.
So
this
is
my
first
official
flag
racing
as
a
city
councilor,
so
I
find
it
very
special
that
it's
the
ukrainian
flag
raising.
So
thank
you.
A
Very
much
thank
you
for
being
here.
Thank
you
and
we
appreciate
it.
This
is
the
first
time
we've
set
the
podium
in
front
of
the
pole,
so
it's
adding
a
little
logistical
issue.
Okay,
we
now
have
come
to
read
the
reading
of
the
act
of
ukrainian
independence.
A
I
I
J
On
august
19
1991
continuing
the
thousand-year
tradition
of
state
development
in
ukraine,
proceeding
from
the
right
of
a
nation
to
self-determination,
in
accordance
with
the
charter
of
the
united
nations
and
other
international
legal
documents
and
implementing
the
declaration
of
state
sovereignty
of
ukraine.
The
vivo
narada
of
the
ukrainian
soviet
socialist
republic
solemnly
declares
independence
of
ukraine
in
creation
of
the
independent
ukrainian
state
ukraine.
J
A
I'm
going
to
make
just
one
quick
comment
that
back
in
1991,
they
were
talking
about
a
mortal
danger
and
they're
again
facing
immortal
danger
and
a
friend
of
mine
just
recently
fired
me.
Some
information
that
in
ukraine
they
just
did
a
poll,
and
I
think
it
was
like
91
or
93
of
ukrainians
were
committed
to
victory
and
we're
not
going
to
settle
for
any
negotiated
peace
and
that
I
think.
A
Okay,
I
have
one
more
speaker,
father
george.
K
K
K
Yesterday,
the
polish
president,
mr
judah,
went
to
kiev
for
the
first
time
to
meet
with
the
president
of
the
ukraine
and
to
show
our
solidarity.
Poland
welcome
the
people
like
brothers
and
sisters,
and
we
send
a
lot
of
equipment.
Military
equipment
now,
together
with
usa
and
england,
were
the
main
cause
was
supporting
products.
So
we
pray
in
boston.
With
we
collected
some
stuff.
K
We
sent
containers
to
poland
and
we're
still
collecting
goods
like
right
now
in
our
parish
hall,
who
have
backpack
of
love
for
children,
for
the
children
who
are
studying
in
poland,
they
go
to
the
polish
school
learning
the
history
and
finding
common.
So
my
god
bless
us
all.
May
god
bless
ukraine
and
freedom
to
ukraine.
My
god
bless.
K
A
A
A
So
so
that's,
I
don't
think
we're
gonna
try
to
take
a
group
photo.
We
already
did
that.
That
was
fine,
so
I
am
going
to
introduce
oh
and
last
sort
of
piece
of
business.
A
L
Thank
you,
lord
for
your
presence
here
with
us
today
and
every
day
of
our
lives
you
for
your
heavenly
blessings
and
protection
of
our
homeland,
ukraine,
in
this
time
of
just
war
against
moscow's
aggression,
bless
and
protect.
Also,
this
great
country,
the
united
states
of
america,
the
land
of
democracy,
freedom
and
opportunity
for
all
open
our
minds.
So
we
can
receive
your
wisdom
from
the
power
to
know
the
truth
about
you,
our
creator
about
meaning
and
purpose
of
our
lives
open
our
hearts.
L
So
we
can
receive
your
unconditioned
divine
love
and
share
it
with
people
around
us
with
whom
we
live,
pray,
work,
study
and
socialize
strengthen
our
will.
So
we
be
able
to
follow
your
divine
will
serving
you,
our
god
and
one
another
in
spirit
of
truth
and
love.
Justice
and
compassion
give
us
all
your
peace.
L
So
we
can
be
your
apostle
of
your
peace
in
our
families,
communities
and
society,
inspire
people
of
good
will
of
every
nation
of
this
planet
to
be
united
in
establishing
and
maintaining
peace
in
ukraine
in
this
country
and
around
the
world
almighty
god.
We
know
that
we
are
destined
to
live
in
unity
and
peace,
harmony
and
solidarity
among
people
and
nations
on
this
planet
earth
our
common
home.
A
Okay,
I
have
one
other
little
thing,
which
is
not
very,
but
I
was
handed
these
nice
bumper
stickers
if
somebody's
interested
they're
here
and
there
they
can
be
more-
can
be
gotten,
so
I
I
promised
I
would
show
them
so
I
did.
I
think
this
is
the
conclusion.
It's
an
important
event.
I
thank
everybody
for
attending.
We
need
to
come
out
in
numbers.
We
need
to
make
sure
that
ukraine
is
aware
and
that
people
are
aware
of
the
struggle,
because
every
day
people
are
dying
and
bonds
are
falling.
