From YouTube: Dorchester Winter Farmers Market
Description
Mayor Wu attends the Dorchester Winter Farmers Market, a market dedicated to good health and good eating habits with locally produced agricultural products such as fruit, eggs, meat, vegetables, and many more.
A
Excellent:
okay:
welcome
to
the
dorchester
winter
farmers
market.
Welcome
to
our
celebration.
Go
ahead,
clap
if
you
want
to
if
it's
in
your
spirit,
my
name
is
cynthia
les
johnson
and
I'm
president
of
the
codman
square,
neighborhood
council,
the
copman
square
neighborhood
council
is
just
one
of
the
organizers
of
the
dorchester
winter
farmers
market.
The
neighborhood
council,
if
you're
not
aware,
is
the
largest
civic
association
in
cobin
square,
where
residents
that
care
about
our
community
and
want
to
improve
the
community.
So
we
come
together
and
help
put
together.
A
A
People
that
support
the
dorchester
winter
farmers
market
and
understand
the
importance
of
bringing
farm
fresh
food
to
our
dorchester
community.
Before
you
hear
from
all
of
these
wonderful
speakers,
we
are
going
to
hear
from
our
state
representative
russell
holmes
to
just
say
a
few
words,
because
we
know
he
has
to
step
away
to
a
very
important
engagement,
so
rep
homes
take
it
away
all
right.
B
Well,
thank
god
I
didn't
know.
Cynthia
was
going
to
call
me
out
like
that,
but
no
problem
great
to
see
everyone
out
this
morning,
great
to
just
understand
that
this
is
a
beautiful
day
in
the
winter
when
she
thinks
about
just
the
winter's
farmers
market.
Of
course,
I'm
gonna
give
my
shout
out
to
just
the
summer's
farmer's
market
too.
Let's
make
sure
that
we
show
up
there
as
well,
so
I'm
here
just
to
say
we
as
the
state
are
very
committed.
You
can
see
we're
on
the
state
hospital.
B
I
mean
some
of
the
state
the
t
grounds
today,
which
was
a
challenge
just
for
making
sure
we
got
all
the
things
from
insurance
and
the
like,
and
when
cynthia
talks
about
just
advocacy,
she's
an
incredible
advocate-
and
at
this
moment
I
just
think
about
her
dad
when
I
was
sitting
there
thinking
and
watching
her
speak.
B
Let's
take
let's,
let's
clap
on
that
right.
So
I
know
some
folks.
Some
folks
are
still
unhappy
in
the
community
about
menthol
cigarettes,
but
that
is
something
that
cynthia
the
team.
They
both
teams
and
all
they
came
and
they
they
challenged
us
about,
and
even
the
simple
things
as
making
sure
we
don't
have
bad
food
in
the
neighborhood,
such
as
pie,
pies
and
and
making
sure
they
still
advocate
for
fresh
food.
And
so
today
is
special
because
of
the
fact
that
we
are
still
even
in
the
winter.
B
B
Let
us
continue
to
just
make
sure
that
they
are
committed
to
making
sure
we
get
the
mass
make
sure
we
still
get
out
the
test
because
of
the
fact
that
still
matapan
in
particular,
is
the
least
vaccinated
community
in
this
city,
and
let
us
make
sure
that
as
cynthia
and
the
team
continues
to
on
talbot
ave
and
other
places
with
common
square,
that
we
continue
to
make
sure
we
get
tested
and
vaccinated.
So
thank
you
all
for
coming
out
today.
It
is
a
beautiful
day
and
thank
you
for
giving
me
a
moment
to
speak.
A
Thank
you,
okay,
thank
you.
So
much
rob
holmes.
We
really
appreciate
your
commitment
to
our
community.
You
attend
all
of
our
community
meetings,
all
of
our
community
events
you're
so
present,
and
we
just
appreciate
the
support
moving
along.
We
are
now
going
to
hear
from
our
very
own
dorchester
winter
farmers,
market
manager,
richard
scott.
C
All
right,
how's
everyone
doing
today.
I
just
want
to
start
by
saying
thank
you.
Everyone
who's
came
out
and
supported.
I
know
it's
been
a
lot
slow
for
this
year
for
the
market
to
start
up
because
of
the
weather,
so
just
to
see
everybody's
faces
out
here.
I
just
want
to
say
thank
you
to
all
you
guys.
So,
as
cynthia
said,
my
name
is
richard
scott.
I
am
dishes
winter
market
manager.
C
Now,
usually
our
market
is
held
in
the
in
out
indoors,
we're
outdoors
to
share,
as
you
can
see,
because
of
the
pandemic,
so
we
really
want
to
still
be
able
to
reach
our
mission,
which
is
to
provide
accessibility
for
food,
especially
healthy
food
options
in
our
community.
So
with
that,
that's
why
we
decided
to
still
have
our
winter
market
and
we
decided
to
have
it
outdoors,
so
I
just
want
to
take
time
to
say.
Thank
you
again.
I
want
to
give
a
big
shout
out
to
some
of
our
vendors.
C
We
have
norfolk,
boston
and
some
of
their
partners.
We
have
oasis
on
balu,
we
have
fresh
food
generations,
continental
spices.
We
have
one
of
mine.
This
is
spot
smiles.
Great
drinks,
one
of
my
eggies
iggy's
brands
from
cambridge,
and
we
also
have
steel
and
rye
from
milton,
so
all
those
vendors
that
came
out
they.
They
helped
put
this
thing
together,
so
we
can
able
to
provide
for
the
community.
So
I
want
to
give
a
big
shout
out
to
those
vendors.
A
Thank
you
so
much
richard
fun
facts
about
richard
he's
a
resident
of
dorchester.
He
lives
right
up
the
street.
He
attends
wentworth
and
he's
also
a
common
square
neighbor
council
board
member.
Thank
you
for
all
of
your
hard
work
in
putting
this
market
together.
It's
not
easy.
It's
not
easy
to
hold
an
outdoor
market.
The
weather
is
tricky,
we're
still
in
a
pandemic,
and
he
pushes
us
through
and
we're
here
every
saturday,
whether
it's
online,
because
we
now
have
an
online
option
that
we
developed
during
the
pandemic
or
on
site
outside
keeping
everyone
safe.
A
We'll
now
hear
from
another
organizer
of
the
dorchester
winter
farmers
market
and
that's
sandra
cotterell,
ceo
of
the
codman
square
health
center
sandra,
is
just
super
passionate
about
making
sure
the
health
of
our
community
is
the
first
priority.
The
health
center
does
a
number
of
initiatives
that
she'll
share
a
little
bit
about,
but
we're
just
so
grateful
to
partner
with
you
in
this
effort
come
on
up
sandra.
D
I
just
have
a
couple
of
fun
facts
about
the
winter
market.
As
cynthia
said,
you
know,
this
came
together
out
of
passion
that
we
did
not
want
the
dorchester
community
to
be
a
food
desert,
so
we
it
was
important
for
us
to
see
that
there
was
access
to
healthy
food
options
throughout
the
year
and
in
2013
we
partnered
with
the
dorchester
food
co-op.
So
it's
nice
to
see
them
here
today
and
we
held
our
first
market
at
the
great
hall
in
codman
square.
D
In
2015,
we
found
a
new
partnership
with
the
common
square
neighborhood
council,
and
at
that
point
it
was
energized
by
the
leadership
of
our
youth
to
really
support
the
market
and
its
efforts,
and
this
has
been
just
a
really
integral
part
of
how
we
view
house
in
a
holistic
way.
As
cynthia
said,
the
health
center
has
some
very
interesting
and
unique
partnerships,
we're
the
only
health
center
in
the
country
with
the
school
on
our
campus,
and
that
supports
our
education
journey.
D
D
It
now
has
two
other
stores,
but
we
were
the
first
home
and
again
providing
access
to
affordable
food
competing
with
fast
food
prices,
so
that
people
had
access
to
healthy
options,
and
last
we
partnered
with
blue
cross
blue
shield
to
form
a
dot
rx
program
where
our
doctors
write
prescriptions
and
we
partner
patients
and
clients
with
coaches
that
help
them
get
access
to
the.
Why
to
daily
table
as
well
as
health
works,
fitness
just
to
name
a
few,
and
I
say
that
because
our
community
is
important
to
us.
D
A
A
Dorchest
is
the
largest
most
diverse,
and,
if
you
ask
me,
my
bias
opinion
best
part
of
boston,
so
it's
important
to
have
a
winter
market
here,
we'll
now
hear
from
our
youth
leadership
here
at
the
dorchester
winter
farmers
market,
christina
pruitt,
is
a
bold
teen
and
she's,
really
the
youth
voice
with
all
of
the
bold
teens
when
it
comes
to
healthy
food
options
in
our
community.
So
let's
give
christina
a
round
of
applause.
E
Hello,
as
you
heard
before,
my
name
is
christina.
I
am
a
boat
teen,
so
a
little
bit
more
about
the
bose
teen
is
a
youth-led
organization
focused
on
social
health
and
environmental
justice.
I
am
joined
today
by
lawrence
laurie
and
serafina.
We
work
with
richard
scott,
who
is
the
market
manager
to
manage
the
dorchester
winter
farmers
market.
E
E
E
Not
only
am
I
a
bull
team,
but
I
am
a
bold
member
of
the
common
square
neighborhood
council
and
we
have
been
working
closely
with
the
council
to
assess
what
options
are
available
to
us
in
our
merchant
district.
Additionally,
we
survey
residents
determine
what
else
we
would
like
to
see
in
this
community.
E
We
have
a
lot
of
fast
food
options,
a
lot
of
beauty,
salons
a
lot
of
corner
stores,
but
where
the
sit
in
restaurants
and
where
are
the
healthier
food
options,
we
survey
residents
just
to
determine
what
they
would
like
to
see,
and
we
would
also
like
you
guys
to
survey.
So
this
is
the
qr
code
that
you
guys
can
use
just
to
pull
out
your
phone
and
to
take
this
quick
survey.
A
Hold
it
up
seraphina,
we
want
to
make
sure
people
really
access
the
qr
code.
Thank
you.
So
much
christina
fun
facts
about
christina.
Also
at
dorchester
resident
attends,
boston,
latin
academy.
I
went
to
latin
academy
so
near
and
dear
to
my
heart.
Did
you
hear
her?
These
are
young
people
advocating
for
healthy
food
options
in
our
community
they're,
tired
of
the
fast
food
options,
they're
tired
of
the
corner
stores
with
the
junk
food.
A
They
know
all
of
the
unhealthy
options
in
the
community
and
they
know
they
deserve
better
and
they
want
better
and
they're
asking
you
all
of
the
adults
out
here
to
please
fill
out
this
survey
and
let
us
know
what
you
want
to
see
in
the
common
square
merchants
district:
where
are
the
sit-down
restaurants
christina
asked?
Where
are
the
healthy
food
options?
A
It's
no
surprise
that
the
major
health
inequities
that
we
face
diabetes,
type,
2,
obesity,
heart
disease.
What
we
have
access
to
is
impacting
our
diet
and
it's
making
us
unhealthy
and
our
young
people
want
to
see
that
change.
So
this
is
a
challenge
for
all
of
us.
Let's
do
something
about
that.
Take
the
survey
get
involved.
I
know
that
they're
going
to
be
releasing
survey
results
at
some
point,
I'm
so
excited.
I
know
that
there's
been
a
lot
of.
You
know
push
for
book
stores
for
sit
down.
Restaurants,
a
coffee
shop.
A
We
can't
have
a
coffee
shop
in
common
square,
you
go
to
other
merchants,
districts,
they've
visited
them
and
they've
seen
what's
out
there
and
it's
not
there
for
them.
That's
not
fair
and
they're
saying
they
want
change.
So
thank
you
so
much
christina
for
speaking
out
and
advocating
for
our
community
we're
now
going
to
hear
from
one
of
our
farmers.
We
have
apollo
here
from
oasis
on
balu.
It
doesn't
get
any
more
local
than
this
he's
right
here
in
dorchester.
So
please
tell
us
about
oasis.
F
Good
afternoon
or
more
absolutely
good
afternoon,
everyone
thank
you
for
coming
out.
There's
a
lot
of
awesomeness
in
in
the
place
right
now,
and
I'm
I'm
thrilled
to
be
here
and
I'm
thrilled
to
be
representing
or
yeah
the
the
the
farmers
have
been
coming
to
this
market
since
the
2015
and
it
gets
better
every
every
year.
F
It
gets
better
and
thanks
to
the
partnerships
that
we
have,
we
get
to
do
what
we
do
best
and
I
like
to
just
summarize
that
I
say
that
farmers
are
driven
by
a
commitment
to
promote
individual
community
and
environmental
wellness,
because
when
we
grow
locally
and
we
consume
locally,
everything
gets
better.
We
all
are
healthier.
F
So
with
that
said
again,
thank
you
for
coming
out
and
before
long,
we'll
be
out
in
the
common
square.
The
seeds
are
already
on
the
way
they're
growing
in
the
greenhouses
and
we're
looking
forward
to
having
an
awesome
summer
again
despite
coving.
A
Thank
you
so
much
apollo
because
of
our
farmers.
You
know
we're
able
to
bring
farm
fresh
food
to
this
community
and
because
of
this
market,
we're
able
to
make
it
so
accessible.
As
I
mentioned
last
year
we
had
to
go
online,
you
know
it
just
wasn't
safe
to
have
the
market
indoors
and
we
weren't
ready
to
be
outdoors
yet
and
we
were
able
to
create
a
website.
A
We
were
able
to
partner
with
our
farmers
and
have
farm
fresh
food,
delivered
to
door,
chester,
doorsteps
right,
that's
exciting,
and
then
now
this
year
we're
expanding
and
we're
advancing
and
we're
having
this
outdoor.
You
know
hybrid
model
and
still
being
able
to
order
online.
So
if
we
haven't
made
the
plug
yet
dorchesterwinterfarmersmarket.org,
you
can
order
your
food.
Have
it
delivered
to
your
home.
If
that's
what
you
want
that
day
or
the
weather
is
terrible
or
you
can
show
up
on
site
here,
saturdays
10,
to
1..
So
thank
you
apollo.
A
A
G
That,
in
some
ways,
is
what
is
at
the
foundation
of
our
recovery
from
this
pandemic,
and
we
need
to
be
able
to
keep
these
partnerships
going
across
city
state
federal
lines
here
again
thanks
to
the
rep
and
everyone
for
their
coordination,
so
that
we
could
be
on
state
and
vta
property
doing
this
outside
bringing
community
together.
I
have
a
lot
of
folks
to
thank
on
the
city
side
too
here
with
hay
and
kim,
and
our
office
of
new
newly
created
office
of
food
justice,
which
we
announced
recently
alongside
grow
boston,
our
office
of
urban
agriculture.
G
G
Brianna
mellor
is
here
with
her
family,
including
the
beautiful
niece
devin,
who
times
quincy,
of
course,
and
also
representing
us
across
the
city,
and
so
many
others
who
are
doing
the
work
of
making
sure
we
are
getting
city
hall
out
of
city
hall
into
our
neighborhoods
food
and
food
justice
is
at
the
center
of
that.
We
purposely
renamed
our
office
of
food
justice
to
be
able
to
bring
so
many
pieces
that
have
been
floating
out
there,
all
together
under
the
same
umbrella.
G
So
there's
no
more
inspirational
organization
that
has
been
leading
this
charge
for
decades
before
on
these
types
of
issues
than
the
bold
teens,
and
so
I
really
want
to
lift
up
the
work
that
christina
and
everyone
are
stepping
into
the
legacy
of
actually
cynthia
back
in
the
day
as
a
bolting
and
many
others.
Thank
you
again
to
the
codman
square,
neighbors
association
and
to
the
health
center
and
everyone
who's
been
involved.
G
G
G
It's
about
what
we're
doing
to
till
that
soil
make
sure
it's
all
the
nutrients
are
right
there
and
that,
I
think,
is,
is
really
what
the
entire
city
needs
to
do:
to
create
the
soil
for
each
one
of
our
young
people,
for
our
communities,
for
our
neighborhoods
to
be
blossoming
and
we'll
continue
supporting
that
along
every
step
of
the
way.
But
getting
these
foundations
right
and
really
investing
in
bringing
our
energy
out
into
our
communities
is
what
we're
going
to
try
to
do
every
single
step
of
the
way.
G
A
A
You
said
it
so
clearly,
there's
so
much
work
to
do,
and
we
are
looking
forward
to
working
with
you
to
make
the
systemic
change
to
make
the
changes
that
we
want
to
see
in
our
neighborhood
and
make
our
community
just
a
healthier
place
to
live
and
raise
our
families.
So
thank
you
before
I
introduce
the
next
speaker.
I
just
have
a
very
short
brief
story.
A
One
of
the
resources
at
the
dorchester
winter
farmers
market
is
the
coupon
program
in
partnership
with
the
mayor's
office
of
food
access.
We
have
coupon
dollars
available
to
us
to
give
to
families
in
need.
It's
an
amazing
resource
for
the
winter
market.
Five
thousand
dollars
was
secured
for
the
coupon
program
and
we
were
so
excited
for
that
because
we
know
how
important
and
valuable
the
coupon
program
is,
but
we
also
knew
that
five
thousand
dollars
wasn't
enough.
We
needed
more.
How
did
we
know
that?
A
Well,
in
the
summer,
the
common
square,
neighborhood
council
and
the
bold
teams
run
the
codman
square
farmers
market
at
the
codman
square
park
and
last
summer
72
000
worth
of
coupons
were
redeemed
at
that
carbon
square
farmers
market.
Seventy
two
thousand
dollars
that's
separate
from
hip
sales,
separate
from
ebt
sales
separate
from
cash
sales,
but
it's
a
pandemic.
Families
are
struggling
and
that's
a
lot
of
coupons
that
were
redeemed
at
that
market.
So
we
knew
we
needed
more
than
four
more
than
five
thousand
for
this
market.
A
So
we
were
like
what
do
we
do
richard
and
I
we
called
up
boston
city,
councillor,
brian
morrell,
and
we
said
hey.
We
know
you
haven't
started
yet
it's
still
2021.,
but
we
have
this
problem.
Can
you
help
us?
We
need
support
for
the
winter
market
and
I
will
allow
boston
city,
councillor
brian
warrell,
to
tell
you
what
his
response
was
come
on
up.
H
Good
afternoon,
everyone
how,
how
is
everyone
feeling
today
good
feels
good
to
be
here
in
dorchester
outside
and
celebrating
the
dorchester
winter
farm?
My
name
is
brian
warrell,
I'm
the
district,
4
boston
city
councilor.
I
represent
the
neighborhoods
of
dorchester,
matapan
and
pieces
of
jamaica,
plain
and
roslindale.
H
We
have
so
many
incredible
programs
right
here
in
the
city
of
boston,
to
help
connect
residents
to
the
services
they
need,
including
the
mayor's
office
of
food
access,
coupon
program
which
helps
to
make
farm
fresh
food
more
accessible
and
for
and
available
for
families
in
need.
A
few
weeks
ago,
as
cynthia
said
they
reached
out
to
me
asking
you
know
if
I
could
bring
more
resources
here
to
the
dorchester
winter
farm,
so
I
made
a
few
phone
calls
and
had
I
don't
know
if
anyone
here
from
the
city,
kids
isn't
present?
H
A
One
phone
call
and
we
were
able
to
double
our
coupon
program,
we're
so
grateful.
Thank
you,
councillor,
warrell
for
just
being
accessible
being
available
and
just
hitting
the
ground
running
and
working
with
us
with
this
market.
I
you
know,
you
didn't
even
know
about
the
market
that
much
beforehand
and
you
are
now
part
of
it.
So
thank
you.
We're
now
gonna
hear
from
another
city
councilor.
We
have
councilor
murphy
here.
You
want
to
come
up
and
say
a
few
words.
I
I
So
I
would
partner
with
lambert's
in
other
neighborhood
stores
that
would
always
donate,
and
the
parents
were
always
amazing,
donating
fresh
fruit
and
vegetables
and
the
kids
would.
If
you
cut
up
a
cantaloupe
and
have
carrots
out
or
have
a
basket
with
apples
and
oranges,
they
will
eat
it,
they
will
love
it,
and
so
that's
something
I
know
and
I'm
so
happy
that
the
mayor
in
this
administration
really
cares
about
making
sure
that
there
are
no
food
deserts,
but
that's
also
access
to
healthy
food.
I
A
We
appreciate
you
stopping
by
councillor
murphy
and
we're
so
glad
that
you
will
be
working
with
us
and
supporting
the
winter
market
as
we
move
forward
council
murphy's,
not
the
only
at-large
counselor
we
have.
Today.
We
have
counselor
louisian
here
as
well
and
she's
going
to
come
up
and
say
a
few
words.
J
Thank
you,
cynthia,
hello,
everyone.
My
name
is
rudy
luigen.
I
am
one
of
your
at-large
city.
Councilors
live
in
hyde
park,
grew
up
in
matapan,
but
also
did
youth
programs
with
the
common
square
health
center
growing
up
so
big
shout
out
to
the
common
square
health
center
sandra
for
being
here
to
all
the
young
folks
who
are
here
really
leading
the
way
richard
serafina,
all
the
folks
out
here.
All
of
you
all.
It's
really.
We
got
to
listen
to
you
when
it
comes
to
what
our
communities
need.
J
I
was
out
here
last
saturday
ready
for
this
when
the
market
and
I
took
to
cynthia-
and
I
was
like
cynthia
where's
it
at
she's
like
don't
you
see
all
the
snow,
it's
not
happening
all
right,
I'll,
be
back
next
saturday,
so
I'm
here
joined
the
dorchester
food
co-op
really
excited
to
just
be
out
here
and
to
be
learning
from
all
of
you
and
your
leadership
and
following
you
all
you
all
are
inspiring.
This
is
what
it
looks
like
to
take
ownership.
J
A
Thank
you
for
showing
up
in
the
snowstorm.
That's
commitment,
that's
passion!
Okay!
Before
I
wrap
things
up,
I
just
want
to
note
a
few
things.
First,
I
want
to
give
a
quick
shout
out
to
one
of
our
partners
mass
farmers
market.
If
you
look
over
here
to
my
left,
you'll
see
a
kiosk
and
outdoor
kiosks.
It's
a
really
cool
kiosk!
That's
allowed
us
to
have
this
outdoor
space
and
that's
through
a
partnership
with
the
mass
farmers
market,
and
I
also
want
to
give
a
quick
shout
out
to
the
epiphany
school.
A
Dr
sanchez
is
right
here,
the
principal
of
the
school
when
we're
not
using
the
kiosk
her
and
her
team
are
distributing
like
food,
okay,
food
to
hundreds
of
families
each
week,
free
food
to
families,
and
they
utilize
that
kiosk
as
well,
so
that
kiosk
is
utilized
all
the
time
and
and
our
farmers
have
also
donated
to
this
initiative
and
helped
to
give
out
food
to
hundreds
of
families
each
week.
So
just
thank
you
because
she
allows
this
kiosk
to
sit
on
epiphany
property.
A
So
without
dr
sanchez,
we
wouldn't
be
able
to
do
a
lot
of
the
things
that
we're
doing
out
here
with
that
said,
I
just
want
to
thank
all
of
you
all
for
being
here
with
us
today
for
celebrating
the
dorchester
winter
farmers
market
for
supporting
us.
I
want
to
thank
all
of
the
farmers
and
vendors
because
of
the
farm
fresh
food
that
you
bring
to
the
market.
Our
community
is
a
healthier
place.
I
want
to
thank
all
of
our
elected
officials
that
spoke.
You
can
see
the
support.
A
That's
out
here
for
healthy
food
options
in
our
community
big,
thank
you
to
the
organizers,
year
after
year
after
year,
bringing
healthy
food
options
to
dorchester
and
we're
just
so
grateful.
We
want
to
see
this
market
grow.
We
want
to
get
to
a
point
where
we
have
healthy
food
options
built
into
our
environment.
So
it's
not
just
a
farmers
market,
that's
seasonal,
but
it's
every
single
day
what
we're
exposed
to
so
that
we
can
actually
see
the
real
changes
in
our
health
and
in
our
community.
