A
B
B
You
joined
us
here
today,
I'm
here
with
many
of
the
people
who
have
been
instrumental
in
getting
Boston
to
this
point
and
helping
us
really
demonstrate
the
many
overlapping
benefits
from
moving
to
a
green
economy
and
ensuring
that
our
kids
and
our
workforces
at
the
center
of
that
so
you'll,
hear
shortly
after
me,
you'll
hear
from
superintendent
Mary
skipper
our
Green
New
Deal,
director
Oliver
sellers
Garcia
and
our
BPS
director
of
Transportation,
Dan,
Rosengard
and
then
state
representative,
Rob
consalvo
I
also
want
to
acknowledge
Jackson,
who
is
a
trainer
who
will
be
showing
us
how
to
actually
get
on
the
bus
and
and
how
it
works.
B
B
Last
spring
I
was
in
Roxbury,
with
our
students
from
Madison
Park
Vocational
Technical
High
School,
to
affirm
our
commitment
to
a
green
New,
Deal
City
and
our
schools.
A
big
part
of
that
commitment
involves
taking
our
transportation
system
and
making
it
green
in
Boston
of
our
many
hundred
school
buses
about,
half
of
them
were
still
operating
on
diesel,
which
causes
10
to
15
times
the
air
pollution
and
the
consequences
for
our
health.
B
These
buses
will
reduce
vehicle
emissions
across
Boston
and
cut
back
on
the
harmful
fumes
that
students,
staff
and
drivers
are
exposed
to
when
riding
diesel
buses.
This
pilot
program
is
the
largest
of
its
kind
in
the
Northeast,
and
it
will
help
us
gather
more
data
on
route
efficiency.
Bus
operations,
as
well
as
the
climate
and
public
health
impacts,
with
an
overall
goal
of
fully
electrifying
our
school
bus
fleet
by
2030.
B
B
Today's
announcement
is
just
one
of
many
steps
that
we
are
taking
for
Boston
to
become
a
green
New,
Deal
City,
and
to
move
with
the
urgency
that
our
community
members,
our
residents,
deserve
and
bringing
along
everyone
in
the
community
with
these
opportunities
cutting
down
on
emissions
and
every
part
of
our
education
infrastructure,
where
our
students
learn
and
how
they
get
to
class,
to
Preparing
our
next
generation
of
workers
to
build
and
sustain
cleaner
Greener
infrastructure.
For
all
of
us,
we're
so
excited
about
where
this
will
lead.
Boston.
C
C
C
C
A
Good
morning
and
welcome
to
all
of
you,
this
is
an
exciting
day.
It's
not
every
day
that
superintendent
of
schools
gets
to
announce
the
with
the
mayor,
the
largest
electric
School
Bus
deployment
in
the
Northeast,
and
that's
exactly
what
we're
doing
here
and
that's
because
we
have
a
mayor
with
this
vision
for
our
city
and
for
our
school
district.
I'd
also
like
to
recognize
Chief
sellers
Garcia
and
to
say
thank
you
for
the
vision
that
he's
bringing
to
this
and
for
making
it
happen.
There
are
a
few
thank
yous.
A
I
would
like
to
give,
because
this
is
really
the
work
over
the
Long
Haul
of
many
many
people,
certainly
to
transdev
to
and
to
eversource,
to
Anderson
Motors,
to
Bluebird,
to
voltrek,
wri,
veic
and
in
charge
all
for
supporting
this
effort.
The
charges
don't
arrive
here
by
themselves.
The
capacity
for
the
electrical
doesn't
get
upgraded
by
itself,
and
certainly
the
buses
don't
get
constructed
by
themselves.
So
really,
this
is
the
work
of
so
many
key
Partners
to
make
this
moment
happen
in
time.
A
This
is
truly
exciting
on
so
many
different
levels.
As
the
mayor
said,
you
know
as
a
city
and
as
a
district
you
know
to
have
school
buses
that
we
know
will
have
regenerative.
Braking
we'll
have
zero
admissions,
which
will
have
no
noise
in
in
for
our
students.
That's
such
a
wonderful
model,
and
example
of
what's
to
come
in
the
future.
A
That's
the
celebration
today
when
you
see
that
logo-
and
you
see
the
green
bird
along
with
the
plug,
that
is
the
future
of
our
children
and
then
the
children
that
are
riding
inside
of
it
are
our
future.
We
really
want
to
you,
know,
thank
and
and
think
about
Madison
Park
and
their
commitment
to
step
up
in
terms
of
adding
to
the
Core
Curriculum
the
electric
vehicle
maintenance.
A
This
is
going
to
be
key
for
next
year,
as
we
prepare
our
young
people
to
maintain
the
vehicles
of
the
future
big
shout
out
to
our
former
Transportation
director
Dell
Stanislaus.
You
know
this
was
part
of
her
vision
that
she
worked
very
hard
with
all
of
the
partners
that
I
listed
along
with
our
city
Partners,
to
make
this
happen
and
Dan
Rosenberg,
who
you'll
hear
from
shortly?
Who
is
the
incoming
director
for
transportation?
A
A
We
thank
all
of
our
partners,
our
drivers,
who
aboard
these
buses
at
some
point
in
the
in
the
near
future
and,
most
importantly,
we
look
to
the
Future
when
we
see
that
bird
give
a
big
wave
so
because
you're
going
to
be
waving
to
the
students
to
the
future
of
the
city
and
to
our
future
with
zero
admissions.
Thank
you.
D
Thank
you,
mayor,
Wu,
superintendent,
Skipper,
and
everyone
else
is
here
this
morning.
My
name
is
Oliver
sellers
Garcia
I
am
the
city
of
Boston's
Green,
New,
Deal,
director
the
Boston
Green
New
Deal
is
the
city
and
the
school's
commitment
to
tackling
climate
strategies
that
make
our
lives
better
today
and
I
really
can't
think
of
a
better
example
than
electric
school
buses.
Mayor
Wu
remarked
that
the
state
of
the
city
address
a
couple
weeks
ago
that
we've
been
laying
the
foundation
for
the
green
New
Deal
and
now
we're
seeing
results.
D
A
lot
of
folks
here
today
are
going
to
talk
about
how
exciting
and
great
these
buses
are.
So
I'm
only
going
to
add
a
few
more
things
to
the
list,
but
I
want
to
point
out
that,
with
our
current
electric
mix,
electric
buses
produce
less
than
half
the
climate,
polluting
greenhouse
gas
emissions
as
diesel
buses,
and
that's
going
to
come
down
to
zero.
As
our
electric
supply
goes
carbon
free
with
no
tailpipe
emissions,
they
create
much
healthier
environments
for
drivers
and
mechanics
and,
of
course,
for
the
students
who
ride
the
buses
and
electric
vehicles.
D
Buses
included,
have
fewer
parts
and,
in
the
long
run,
are
easier
and
cheaper
to
maintain
it's
just
so
inspiring
for
Boston
Public
Schools
to
you
know,
show
us
what
it's
like
to
have.
The
next
generation
of
green
Mobility
you've
already
heard
that
we
have
a
goal
to
convert
the
entire
electric,
the
entire
bus
fleet,
to
Electric
by
2030..
This
is
a
goal
we
share
with
the
municipal
Fleet
and
we're
accelerating
conversion
of
our
light
duty
vehicles
to
electric
vehicles.
D
E
Safe,
reliable
and
on-time
transportation
is
critical
in
ensuring
Equitable
access
to
education
for
Boston
students,
and
while
we
have
made
significant
strides
in
recent
years,
we
know
that
we
have
a
lot
of
work
left
to
do
and
I
look
forward
to
working
alongside
the
entire
Transportation
team,
along
with
our
many
stakeholders
to
build
on
the
progress
made
under
Dell's
leadership
on
behalf
of
the
BPS
Transportation
team.
We're
incredibly
excited
for
this
launch
today.
E
Since
the
mayor
announced
this
project
last
spring,
a
team
has
come
together
and
completed
a
significant
amount
of
work
to
make
this
a
reality
led
by
Jackie
Hayes,
our
assistant
director
of
contract
operations
and
Fleet.
That
team
has
worked
to
introduce
and
ensure
the
smooth
operation
of
our
electric
school
buses,
showing
great
foresight
and
attention
to
detail
and
working
tirelessly
to
prepare
for
every
scenario
and
really
get
this
project
over
the
finish
line.
So
thank
you
to
that
team.
E
We've
worked
to
prepare
our
maintenance
operations
and
safety
personnel
along
with
City
emergency
Personnel
on
the
safe
handling
and
operations
of
these
buses,
and
over
the
coming
weeks,
our
driver
trainers
will
work
to
prepare
our
drivers,
who
have
selected
these
routes
to
make
sure
that
they
are
ready
to
take
these
buses
on
the
road.
They
will
learn
how
to
plug
them
in
how
to
precondition
the
batteries
under
variable
weather
conditions.
E
How
to
utilize
regenerative
braking
to
maximize
the
battery
life
amongst
other
topics
and
they'll
have
time
to
practice
their
Roots
before
getting
on
the
road
and
then,
at
the
end
of
the
month,
we'll
begin
transporting
over
2500
students
across
42
schools
on
20
electric
school
buses.
As
has
been
said,
the
largest
Electric
Tool
Bus
deployment
in
the
Northeast.
E
F
State
representative,
Rob
consalvo
so
thrilled
to
be
here
today
in
my
district
in
Reidville
for
this
great
announcement.
I
want
to
thank
the
mayor.
Who's
had
really
a
laser-like
focus
on
climate
Justice
and
the
environment,
and
a
green
New
Deal
in
a
green
City
and
I
want
to
thank
her
for
not
just
having
that
Vision,
but
also
delivering
on
that.
As
you
see
here
today,
delivering
on
bringing
these
20
buses
into
our
Fleet
I'm
also
excited
to
be
here
as
a
neighborhood
resident.
F
I
live
right
down
the
street,
and
so
the
local
component
to
this
of
all
the
things
you've
heard,
is
also
the
impact
on
our
neighborhoods
as
these
buses
travel
in
and
out
of
our
community.
We
know
that
these
new
buses
are
going
to
do
so
in
an
environmentally
friendly
way,
less
emissions
in
our
communities
and
our
neighborhood
streets,
less
noise
on
our
neighborhood
streets-
and
we
know
that's
so
important.
So
the
local
angle
is
critically
important
too.
I
also
stand
here
as
a
BPS.
F
The
announcement
you
just
made,
maybe
a
little
Austin's
bus,
might
be
that
bus
going
to
school
every
day,
we'll
we'll
negotiate
that,
after
the
after
this
announcement,
but
but
I
understand
that
importance
of
it
as
a
as
a
dad
who
was
a
child
that
rides
a
bus
every
day,
and
could
it
be
more
thrilled
that
it's
happening
right
here
in
the
city
of
Boston
in
Reedville
in
my
district,
so
I
want
to
thank
everybody
for
making
it
happen.
F
B
B
This
has
been
the
order
so
far
and
the
importance
of
starting
with
the
pilot
and
making
sure
that
we
know
exactly
what
we
need
in
Winter,
where
the
charging
station
should
be
any
other
infrastructure,
that's
needed
that
will
help
us
move
as
quickly
as
possible
to
getting
to
2030
full
Fleet
electrification.
B
E
E
We
think
so,
but
this
is,
this
pilot
will
be
very
important
to
kind
of
learning
and
understanding.
What's
working
well,
and
you
know
how,
if
at
all,
we
need
to
adjust
yes
and
that's
a
great
Point
as,
as
you
know,
drivers
get
experience,
utilizing
and
driving
the
buses
they,
the
buses,
have
regenerative
braking
features
which
allow
us
to
kind
of
increase.
The
capacity
of
a
battery.
E
Is
just
kind
of
utilizing
the
stop
and
go
traffic
conditions
to
you
know
to
increase
the
battery
and
recharge
the
battery
on
the
road.
E
So
the
roots
are
set,
they're
actually
going
to
be
traveling
through.
Basically,
every
neighborhood
of
Boston
they'll
be
servicing
42
schools,
as
as
was
mentioned
with
about
a
little
over
2
500
students,
and
so
you
know
the
roots
were
were
chosen
both
to
make
sure
that
we
were.
You
know
servicing
the
the
economic
Justice
neighborhoods
within
Boston,
as
well
as
finding
roots
that
you
know
make
the
most
sense.
Given
traffic
conditions,
you
know,
stop
and
go.
B
B
I'll
give
a
quick
answer,
and
then
the
real
experts
will
will
come
in.
There
are
a
lot
of
factors
that
impact
pickup
times,
and
some
of
that
is
traffic
in
the
city
overall,
and
so
that
is
our
responsibility
as
well
to
work
with
the
state
on
the
flow
of
our
streets
and
everything
that
we
can
do
to
make
sure
that
people
have
as
many
options
as
possible
to
get
where
they
need
to
go.
B
The
public
transit
is
reliable
so
that
those
who
don't
want
to
drive
aren't
forced
into
it,
because
they
can't
rely
on
mass
transit
and
everything
else.
That
is
a
huge
part
of
how
our
buses
will
fare
getting
to
students,
homes
as
well.
One
other
piece
was
working
with
our
incredible
bus
drivers
to
ensure
that
the
terms
within
the
driver's
contract
and
how
we
could
support
Staffing
could
minimize
the
challenges
that
many
districts
are
facing
across
the
country
of
Staffing
shortages.
B
When
it
comes
to
drivers
between
Dell,
our
amazing
former
director
and
Dan,
and
the
team
and
transdev,
we
have
set
up
a
pretty
groundbreaking
pipeline
program
where
drivers
or
potential
drivers
can
get
paid
to
be
trained
to
get
a
CDL
license
and
then
get
trained
to
use
that
license
and
and
drive
our
bus
routes,
and
that's
helped
us
really
close.
The
gap
on
staffing
needs,
which
was
a
big
part
of
it.
B
A
remaining
part
is
Staffing
when
it
comes
to
bus
monitors
and
reaching
not
only
the
Staffing
levels
we
need,
but
having
a
cushion
when
the
inevitable
one-off
situations
come
up
or
health
health
situations
come
up.
So
we're
still
working
on
that
piece
very,
very
seriously,
but
when
it
comes
to
the
time
and
the
deployment
I,
don't
know
that
the
you
know
is
there
any
more
efficiency
of
how
these
buses
run
versus
the
other
ones,
or
will
we
notice
any
difference.
E
Yeah
I
think
that's
something
that
that
we'll
learn,
as
the
pilot
goes
on.
I
think
this
is.
This
is
one
piece
of
you
know
of
the
puzzle
in
terms
of
on-time
performance,
the
the
Council
on
great
City
Schools
report,
which
was
presented
at
school
committee
a
few
weeks
ago,
kind
of
outlines
a
whole
set
of
recommendations
that
that
our
team
and
and
BPS
are
working
to
to
implement
one
of
the
big
ones
being
upgrading
the
technology
on
our
buses.
A
I
think
that
I
think
the
the
mayor
and
Dan
did
an
excellent
job.
I
think
there's
a
variety
of
factors.
When
we
talk
about
the
on-time
performance
that
we're
working
toward
the
consulate,
great
City,
Schools
report-
you
know
lists
them,
but
but
a
few
of
them
are
also
around
the
tiering
and
the
times
of
the
pickups
and
the
times
of
the
drop-offs,
the
complexity
that
we
have,
which
is
unique
to
the
BPS
nationally,
which
is
that
we're
also
responsible
for
charter
school
and
private
school
drop-off
and
pick
up
as
well
as
Athletics.
A
You
know
in
the
area
of
Technology,
but
we'll
be
looking
at
all
of
those
things
and
we'll
be
launching
our
transport
first
ever
Transportation
advisory
Council
this
week,
as
a
matter
of
fact,
to
help
us
from
the
community
and
the
stakeholder
groups
to
think
about
as
the
user
end
of
tech
of
the
transportation,
how
we
can
do
things
even
more
efficiently
and
better
so
much
more
to
come
on
this.
You
guys
buy
the
buses.
