Description
Governor Charlie Baker, Mayor Walsh, and elected officials gather to swear in Rachel Rollins, Suffolk County District Attorney.
A
A
Welcome-
and
this
is
going
to
be
an
amazing
party
and
day,
if
you
can't
tell
I'm
very
excited-
my
name-
is
Rebecca
Saul
Wasser.
A
lot
of
people
know
me
as
Rachel's
little
sister.
She
continually
introduces
me
as
little
baby
sister,
even
though
I'm
40
years
old,
but
I
love
it,
and
she
has
asked
me
to
be
the
MC
for
today,
which
is
a
complete
honor,
and
my
job
is
to
really
keep
things
going.
I
have
my
phone
up
here.
A
We
will
get
going
and
move
this
party
forward
quickly
before
I
begin,
though
I
did
want
to
start
with
some
gratitude
and
appreciation,
because
we
all
know
a
lot
of
work
has
gone
into
this
day
into
getting
Rachel
here
and
it
wasn't
done
alone.
So
I
know
I
speak
on
behalf
of
Rachel
and
everybody
that
has
been
part
of
this
process.
What
I
say
thank
you,
and
so
before
I
begin.
A
I
just
want
to
call
out
a
few
names
and
make
sure
people
understand
that
we
are
so
grateful
for
their
help
in
getting
Rachel
here
today
and
to
George,
who
was
Rachael's
campaign
manager.
Who
was
there
when
this
was
just
an
idea?
I
know
she's
here
somewhere
all
of
Rachel's
campaign
staff
and
volunteers,
the
hundreds
of
people
that
put
in
hours
making
phone
calls
and
knocking
doors.
None
of
this
would
have
happened
without
them,
Caitlin
rod,
Lane,
so
many
people,
Rachael's
finance
team,
Paige
Kate.
You
guys
have
been
tremendous,
making
an
impact
every
single
day.
A
There's
gonna
be
a
lot
of
thanks
if
you
can
even
clap
in
between,
if
you
like,
Rachel's
transition
team,
which
is
led
by
Natasha
who's
up
on
stage
here,
but
special
shout
out
to
Shona
and
noughties
who
really
pulled
together
today.
So
wherever
they
are.
Thank
you.
Rachel's
endorsements
and
endorsers
JP,
progressives,
Chinese,
progressives,
Boston,
Globe,
West,
Roxbury,
Rosendale,
progressives
and
me
gente.
Thank
you
so
much
for
believing
in
Rachel's
vision
and
to
all
the
elected
officials
and
generally
really
important,
VIPs
and
important
people
that
are
here
today.
It
is
a
workday.
We
understand
that.
A
Thank
you
for
making
time
for
being
part
of
the
historic
moment
that
is
this
afternoon,
quick
thanks
to
Valerie
Roberson,
the
president
of
Roxbury
Community
College,
for
allowing
this
event
to
be
here.
Thank
you
so
much
I
believe
more
healy
or
Attorney
General
is
here
somewhere
Thank
You
Maura
for
coming
out,
commissioner
grass
I
know
is
on
stage
got
off
stage
quickly:
Thank
You,
commissioner,
there
is
a
ton
of
law
enforcement
here
across
Suffolk
County,
including
the
MBTA,
so
law
enforcement
I
see
everybody
in
the
back
here,
State
Police,
Boston,
publicly,
Boston
Police.
A
Thank
you
so
much
for
being
here,
Boston
City,
Council
members,
Chelsea,
City,
Council
members,
state,
Raps,
Chief
and
associate
justices.
This
is
just
a
few
of
the
folks
that
we
want
to
just
really
extend
the
huge
appreciation
to
for
taking
time
out
of
their
day
to
be
here.
Thank
you.
Thank
you.
Thank
you.
A
Moving
forward
to
everybody
else
in
the
room,
again,
friends,
family.
There
is
a
lot
that
happened
to
make
everything
possible
from
pickups
to
drop-offs,
to
meals,
to
hugs
to
phone
calls.
None
of
it
would
have
happened.
This
day
would
not
have
happened
without
any
of
that
support.
So
for
family
friends,
everybody
that
just
helped
somewhere
along
the
line.
I
know
Rachel
really
really
is
incredibly
appreciative.
I
am
incredibly
appreciative
appreciative.
So
thank
you
together.
We
all
did
this
and
made
this
day
happen.
So
thank
you.
A
And
as
much
as
I
can
say
that
we
did
all
of
this,
if
you
know
Rachel,
you
know
that
she
is
competitive,
to
say
the
least.
She
yeah
she
is
determined,
she's,
confident,
she's,
brilliant
she's,
composed
she
is
the
most
hilarious
person
I
know,
and
really
she
is
everything
that
we
need.
She
is
everything
that
this
district
needs
to
move
us
forward,
and
so
you
know
Rachel
as
much
as
we
in
this
room
have
supported
her.
Getting
here
has
put
in
a
tremendous
amount
of
effort
to
make
this
day
possible.
A
A
She,
you
know
is
a
beacon
of
morality,
I,
I
I,
just
can't
express
to
you
how
lucky
I
have
been
to
have
someone
above
me
ahead
of
me
in
front
of
me,
holding
my
hand
for
the
last
40
years
to
show
me
how
to
do
things
the
right
way.
So
I
am
honored
to
be
here
this
afternoon.
I
feel
blessed
to
be
in
this
position.
So
before
I
start
to
cry.
A
Let's
get
this
party
started,
we're
gonna
kick
off
with
the
Pledge
of
Allegiance
and
I'm
very
excited
to
call
up
my
adorable
niece
Mia,
who
is
nine
years
old
and
in
the
fourth
grade,
and
she
will
be
accompanied
by
a
few
people.
Oh
wait
before
the
Pledge
of
Allegiance
I
think
we're
gonna
have
yeah.
Okay,
we
actually
brought.
A
A
In
addition
to
being
the
beautiful
and
sweet
and
an
amazing
artist,
she's
nine
years
old
and
in
the
fourth
grade,
she's
gonna
actually
be
accompanied
by
several
veterans
that
are
in
our
family,
so
I
like
to
call
them
up
individually.
First
she'll
be
joined
by
my
99
year
old
grandfather,
grandpa
come
on
up.
A
A
A
A
C
C
C
A
Please
have
a
seat
so
now
moving
into
the
speaking
portion
of
the
program.
We
have
a
handful
of
honored
guests
who
say
a
few
short
words.
Everybody
here
you
have
about
one
minute.
Otherwise,
I'll
pull
you
off
stage
myself
and
to
kick
off.
Our
remarks
will
be
our
72nd
governor
of
Massachusetts
governor
Charlie
Baker.
Oh,
wait!
No
wait!
Oh
oh,
my
gosh
benediction
I
am
too.
Why
did
you
ask
me
to
emcee?
This
is
like
this
is.
E
Let
us
prepare
for
our
invocation,
oh
god,
of
justice,
love
and
peace.
We
come
to
you
on
this
occasion,
just
to
say
thank
you
today.
We
not
only
rejoice
in
the
transition
of
leadership
but
God.
We
come
to
celebrate
this
historic
moment
in
this
County's
history.
As
we
swear
in
the
first
black
woman
as
District
Attorney
of
Suffolk
County
Rachael
Rollins.
E
Lord
we
ask
that
you
give
district
attorney
Rachael
Rollins
the
vision
to
lead
with
clarity.
We
ask
o
God
that
you
give
her
the
wisdom
to
lead
with
courage
and
God.
We
asked
more
importantly
that
we
give
her
the
love
to
lead
with
compassion
and
God,
as
she
seeks
to
bring
this
restoration
and
hope
to
so
many
who
are
seeking
justice
and
God.
We
ask
that
you
bless
and
protect
her
and
her
family.
E
God
bless
those
who
are
close
to
her.
Now
we
ask
that
you
bless
the
Suffolk
County
District
Attorney's
Office
bless
every
a
da
and
bless
every
layperson
bless
every
staff
person
that
will
come
and
work
in
this
administration.
God
bless
their
families
and
God.
Let
them
be
ever
so
reminded
of
their
commitment
to
the
people
as
public
servants.
So
god
we
ask
and
pray
as
the
Prophet
Amos
that
this
new
season
in
Suffolk
County
will
let
justice
roll
down
like
a
mighty
stream
and
righteousness
like
a
never-failing
stream.
E
So
god
we
thank
you
for
this
historic
game
and
we
pray
that
we
do
justice,
love
mercy
and
walk
humbly
before
thee,
so
our
clothes
lifting
my
voice
in
the
voices
of
my
ancestors
sang
these
old
words,
god
of
our
weary
years,
god
of
our
silent
ears,
thou
who
has
brought
us
thus
far
along
the
way
thou,
who
is
bad
I,
might
lead
us
into
the
light
and
keep
us
forever
in
the
paths.
We
pray
that
every
heart
and
mind
say:
amen,
amen
and
amen.
Again,
god
bless
you.
A
A
So
now
we
are
getting
into
the
speaking
program,
okay,
yeah,
and
we
are
going
to
first
hear
from
our
governor
governor
Charlie
Baker,
who
I've
had
the
pleasure
of
working
with
across
my
career,
most
notably
now
I
run
the
Red
Sox
foundation
and
he
is
quite
a
fan
of
our
team,
maybe
second
to
our
mayor.
But
that's
up
for
debate
either
way.
Our
governor
is
someone
that
I
have
known
to
always
always
always
be
there
for
any
organization,
any
person
that
is
making
a
difference
and
really
believes
in
moving
this
Commonwealth
forward.
G
F
F
And
I
want
to
thank
your
family
for
supporting
that
decision
and
the
reason
I
say
that
is
somebody:
who's
run
statewide
three
times.
It
is
a
very
big
decision
and
it's
a
specially
big
decision,
if
you
haven't
made
a
life
out
of
running
for
office
where
it's
something
you're
doing
for
the
first
time
after
having
spent
your
career
and
your
life
doing
other
things,
and
in
Rachel's
case
she
was
the
first
chief
counsel
at
african-american
woman,
chief
counsel,
at
both
the
MBTA
and
the
d-o-t.
F
She
was
the
first
woman
person
of
color,
his
chief
counsel
at
Massport.
She
has
a
long
career
of
being
the
first
in
a
whole
variety
of
places
and
spaces,
but
none
of
them
involved
running
for
office,
and
she
just
decided
that
she
was
going
to
give
it
a
shot.
Now
when
people
win,
everybody
voted
for
him.
F
No
one
voted
for
me
when
I
lost
in
2010,
but
I
have
never
met
anyone
who
didn't
vote
for
me
in
14,
and
we
got
less
than
50%
of
the
vote
that
year,
but
I
spent
a
lot
of
time
talking
to
people
who
ran
and
lost,
because
I
did
that,
and
you
realize,
when
you
have
those
conversations.
First
of
all
that
there
are
some
great
things
about
the
chance
to
get
to
know
your
community.
F
If
the
guts
and
the
determination
and
the
energy
and
the
perseverance
and
the
enthusiasm
and
the
capacity
to
create
a
following
and
to
lead
that
she
showed
during
the
course
of
that
campaign,
is
any
indication
of
what
life
with
Rachel
as
a
district
attorney
in
Suffolk
County
is
going
to
be
like.
We
are
all
going
to
be
in
for
a
great
ride.
God
bless.
A
Thank
you,
Thank
You,
governor
Baker.
We
next
we'll
hear
from
US
senator
ed
Markey
who,
as
we
all
know,
has
been
a
leader
in
strengthening
not
only
our
economy
in
our
environment,
but
job
opportunities
for
almost
40
years
now
and
most
notably,
has
been
incredibly
helpful
to
Rachael
along
this
campaign.
So
thank
you
for
that
and
as
a
side
note,
we
babysat
his
nieces
and
nephew
growing
up.
So
it
is
a
small
world
out
there.
Let
me
tell
you
so
senator
Markey,
please
come
on
up.
H
H
We
could
all
see
the
genetic
code
at
work,
as
so
many
of
you
came
up
onto
the
stage,
so
we
honor
you
the
great
Supreme
Court
Justice,
Thurgood
Marshall
once
said.
Sometimes
history
takes
things
into
its
own
hands.
Well,
history
is
here
in
this
room
today
and
it
has
delivered
us
the
great
Rachael
Rollins,
because
Rachael
Rachele
recognizes
that
our
justice
system
today
faces
a
reckoning.
H
Rachel
and
I
have
spent
time
talking
about
what
a
truly
just
criminal
justice
system
looks
like
one
that
believes
our
law
enforcement
officers
must
be
supported
in
developing
and
strengthening
relationships
in
the
communities
they
serve
and
protect
one
that
believes
in
rehabilitation,
not
recidivism,
one
that
doesn't
stand
for
a
revolving
door
to
and
from
prison
for
our
communities
of
color.
As
a
nation,
we
owe
an
apology
to
the
generation
of
african-american
men
and
women
who
lost
their
lives
and
futures
in
prison
due
to
a
few
dollars
of
crack
cocaine
and
an
unjust
war
on
drugs.
H
I
believe
that
Rachel
understands
firsthand
the
legacy
of
a
justice
system
that
has
only
served
some
and
that's
why
she
has
spent
her
career
fighting
for
a
justice
system
that
represents
all
and
from
her
time,
crusading
for
title
9
protections
for
her
lacrosse
team
to
her
service
in
the
US
Attorney's
Office.
Her
entire
life
has
been
as
a
warrior
for
justice.
She
understands
that
without
accountability,
there
can
be
no
justice
and
without
justice
there
is
no
hope.
Rachel
Rollins
has
always
worked
for
justice
because,
above
all,
she
believes
that
every
person
deserves
hope.
H
Hope
for
a
good
job
and
education
hope
for
a
safe,
neighborhood
hope
for
a
better
future.
That
is
the
kind
of
justice
that
all
of
us
want.
Rachel
understands
that
our
justice
system
isn't
simply
a
collection
of
laws.
It
is
a
collective
of
lives,
lives
that
have
been
touched
by
substance,
abuse,
mental
health
disorders,
trauma
and
discrimination.
She
recognizes
that
when
justice
is
equally
dispensed,
lives
are
equally
valued,
and
that
must
be
our
goal.
That
is
where
Rachel
will
be.
H
Our
leader,
justice,
Marshall,
rightfully
said:
mere
access
to
the
courthouse
doors
does
not
by
itself
assure
a
proper
functioning
of
the
adversary
process.
Rachel
knows
this.
Rachel
has
lived
this
and
that
is
why
she
has
dedicated
her
career
to
creating
a
justice
system
that
promotes
the
dignity
and
respect
that
every
human
being
deserves.
I
believe
that
our
country
I,
believed
in
our
state
now
has
a
leader
with
the
courage
and
the
distinction
and
the
vision
to
help
lead
a
revolution.
H
A
G
G
Anyone
who's
ever
heard,
senator
Markey
speak
at
the
breakfast,
which
is
probably
most
people
here,
know
what
a
committed
guy
he
is,
and
that
was
reflected
in
his
comments.
So
this
is
my
1-minute
card.
I
am
speaking
on
behalf
of
Rachel's
former
colleagues,
including
many
of
the
people
from
Massport
who
are
here,
including
John,
prank
officious,
who
is
the
acting
head.
Some
people,
I,
read
in
the
press,
were
surprised
at
Rachel's
victory,
I,
don't
think
too
many
of
her
colleagues
were
surprised
because
they
knew
when
she
took
on
being
a
lacrosse
player.
G
She
turned
out
to
be
a
standout
lacrosse
player
when
she
graduated
from
law
school
down
the
road
she
turned
around
and
decided
to
get
a
master's
in
law.
In
addition
to
her
LLB.
As
the
governor
mentioned
she's,
the
only
person
in
state
history
who's
been
the
general
counsel
of
three
state
transportation
agencies
and
did
a
great
job
in
each
and
every
instance.
She
has
a
commitment
to
justice
in
all
aspects.
All
aspects
of
justice,
so
I
am
honored
to
be
asked
to
be
here
today.
G
A
Thank
you,
Tom,
and
next
we're
gonna
hear
from
one
of
my
favorite
people.
Our
mayor
love,
you
Rach.
Our
mayor
really
doesn't
need
an
introduction
other
than
to
say
that
when
I
was
thinking
of
what
I'd
say
about
him
besides,
the
fact
that
we're
both
from
Dorchester
I
live
in
Dorchester
now
is
that
I've
never
met
anybody
that
can
make
anyone,
no
matter
who
you
are
secretary,
a
coordinator,
a
CEO.
Anyone
feel
valued,
feel
important
and
feel
heard
and
I
think
that's
exactly
what
you
need
when
it
comes
to
city
leadership.
I
I
That
does
not
going
against
my
minute
by
the
way.
That's
about
you,
so
all
the
elected
appointed
officials
here
today,
thank
you
very
much
to
our
veterans
too,
to
Rachel
and
Rebecca's
father
and
grandfather
and
uncles
and
Friends.
Thank
you.
That
was
amazing.
Well,
you
did
up
here
today.
Thank
you
and
thank
you
for
your
service
to
our
country
to
all
of
our
law
enforcement
officials
that
are
here
to
all
of
our
justices
is
a
lot
too
many
to
name
but
I
want
to
name
justice
Hinds.
I
I
Also
want
to
recognize
the
Rollins
and
spleen
families
is
special,
especially
Rachel
and
Rebecca's
mom
Esther
and
father
John
daughter,
Peyton
Mia.
You
did
an
amazing
job
up
here.
Victoria.
Thank
you
to
all
of
the
whole.
The
whole
family
for
all
you
doing,
I
saw
her
saluting
the
flag.
It
was
amazing,
I
would
say,
I
missed
the
picture
of
that
Ella
somebody
got
it.
I
I'm
gonna
congratulate
all
the
assistant
das,
that
they're
also
being
sworn
in
today
in
your
families,
I'd
like
to
thank
all
of
our
public
safety
leaders
and
professionals
that
are
here
for
the
work
that
you
do
to
keep
us
safe.
This
is
not
always
glamorous
the
work
of
the
DA's
office
and
the
police
departments
and
the
judges
isn't
always
glamorous.
I
Regardless
of
the
stories
that
Toula
told
about
Boston,
it
says
a
lot
about
who
we
are
as
a
city,
and
it
says
a
lot
about
it.
You
already
heard
about
Rachel
Rawlings,
her
experience
and
abilities
are
unquestionable.
I've
seen
her
talent
up,
close
I've
had
the
chance
to
get
to
know
her
over
the
last
eight
months.
I
didn't
really
know
her,
knew
her
sister
and
had
a
chance
to
watch
her
on
the
campaign.
I
Trail
and
I
got
a
chance
to
watch
her
personality
on
that
show
and
I
had
a
chance
to
watch
her
after
she
got
elected
after
the
primary
and
I
got
a
chance
to
watch
her
personality
there
and
I
got
a
chance
to
watch
her
after
she
got
elected
in
the
final
and
see
her
personality.
There
and
I
had
a
chance
to
talk
to
her
yesterday
on
the
phone
and
she's
the
same
exact
person
from
the
beginning
to
the
end
of
this,
and
that
is
really
important
for
all
of
us.
I
That
says,
a
lot
about
her
character,
she's,
a
survivor
of
cancer,
a
lifelong
fighter
against
discrimination
and
injustice
of
all
kinds,
and
she
has
defied
expectations
and
beaten
the
odds
many
times
over
and
Rachel.
You
are
certainly
a
role
model
and
I
am
grateful
as
maid
have
somebody
in
this
vitally
important
position
or
that
who
identifies
with
the
underdog
whether
they
are
a
victim
of
a
crime,
a
survivor
of
homicide
or
a
young
person
that
needs
a
second
chance.
I
You
see
the
humanity
at
the
heart
of
our
justice
system
and
you've
earned
this
job
because
of
these
values
and
those
values
that
you
have
lived
by.
These
are
the
values
that
the
people
of
Boston
live
by
we're
a
city
that's
better
off
when
we
lift
people
up
rather
than
lock
people
up
we're
a
city
that
believes
in
opportunity
in
preventing
crimes.
I
Trust
works
better
than
fear
and
diversity
is
our
strength
and
we're
a
city
that
believes
in
second
chances
we're
a
city
that's
more
safe
because
of
these
values
and
at
a
time
of
fear
and
division
in
our
nation.
We
are
showing
a
better
way
forward
through
our
partnerships
that
we
have
built
around
these
values,
and
now
we
are
a
city
that
believes
district
attorney.
Rachel
Rollins
will
take
over
take
our
leadership
even
further
on
behalf
of
the
city
of
Boston,
all
of
its
residents.
I
want
to
congratulate
you
once
again.
A
A
If
you
don't
know,
she
is
the
first
African.
There
are
a
lot
of
firsts
today,
which
is
amazing,
the
first
african-american
woman
to
serve
as
council
president
and
someone
who
has
been
not
only
a
dear
friend
but
a
confidante
and
and
support
network
for
Rachel
throughout
this
whole
campaign
process,
so
from
Rachel
Ann
I.
Thank
you.
So
much
for
being
there
every
step
of
the
way
Andrae.
J
J
Yes,
I
want
to
thank
and
congratulate
her
campaign
team,
her
family
and
her
friends
who
walked
this
journey
with
her
I
want
to
thank
all
of
you
and
the
you
I'm,
referring
to
other
residents
of
Suffolk
County,
who
showed
up
at
the
polls
who
volunteered
who
got
involved.
You
stood
up
and
you
said
we
do
care
and
we
are
paying
attention
and
we
want
not
only
someone
who
was
qualified
and
willing
to
work
hard,
but
someone
who
was
real,
who
was
bold,
authentic
and
representative
of
the
demographics
of
the
district.
J
They
will
serve
that
person
for
me
has
always
been
Rachel.
I.
Remember
when
I
heard
that
District
Attorney
Connelly
would
not
seek
re-election,
I
immediately
thought
of
Rachel,
knowing
in
my
heart
that,
with
her
experience,
her
strong
convictions,
her
bold
vision
for
the
future
of
our
criminal
justice
system,
she
would
be
the
best
fit
for
the
role.
I
was
also
proud
to
say
out
loud.
We
need
more
women
and
more
women
of
color
in
leadership
roles.
J
Many
years
ago,
Rachel
helped
push
me
to
find
my
purpose
as
a
young
black
attorney
in
Boston,
making
sure
that
as
she
climbed,
she
brought
others
up
with
her.
Most
of
you
know,
I
have
a
passion
for
justice,
including
criminal
justice,
rooted
in
the
devastating
loss
of
my
twin
brother
Andre,
who
passed
away
seven
years
ago
this
month,
while
in
the
custody
of
the
Department
of
Correction
as
a
pre-trial
detainee.
J
J
Victims,
survivors
perpetrators,
the
families
of
all,
while
recognizing
no
one
label
sums
up
a
human
being
as
District
Attorney
she's
going
to
remember
my
twin
brothers
story,
her
own
family
stories
in
each
and
every
one
of
yours.
She
will
think
about
everyone
currently
in
the
system,
those
victims
and
survivors
who
need
a
very
strong
advocate
and
our
young
people
who
deserve
a
chance
and
possibly
a
second
to
achieve
their
god-given
potential.
J
Lastly,
she
will
need
all
of
you
in
all
of
us.
The
work
of
governing
and
tackling
issues
of
race
and
systemic
racism
is
not
easy.
Pray
for
her
send
her
positive
notes,
lots
of
them
and
my
people
continue
to
show
up
I
look
forward
to
not
only
watching
you
Rachel
make
this
roll-your-own
being
a
partner
in
the
work
with
you.
A
I
get
through
this,
though
crying
it
will
be
a
miracle.
A
miracle.
Next
up
is
Natasha
Natasha
Tidwell,
who,
in
addition
to
being
a
co-chair
of
Rachel's
transition
team,
is
a
dear
friend
of
Rachel's
and
our
family
she's.
Also
one
of
the
coolest
woman
I
know,
in
addition
to
being
a
federal
prosecutor
in
the
Deo
Jays
and
the
US
Attorney's
Office,
she
was
a
Cambridge
police
officer
and
again
a
first
year
becoming
the
first
female
lieutenant
in
the
department's
history.
K
It's
a
day
for
truth-telling
good
afternoon.
Everyone
I
am
honored
to
play
a
small
role
in
this
historic
day
for
Suffolk
County
and
for
the
Commonwealth
I
was
of
two
minds
as
I
prepared.
My
remarks
today,
the
first
as
Rachel's
friend
of
several
years,
someone
who
has
shared
with
Rachel
many
laughs,
some
tears
and
a
whole
lot
of
snacks,
the
second
as
co-chair
of
Rachel's
transition
team,
a
job
with
no
salary,
no
benefits
some
snacks,
but
not
nearly
as
many
as
I
had
as
part
of
being
her
friend.
As
some
of
you
will
certainly
understand.
K
One
of
these
roles
has
proved
infinitely
more
challenging
than
the
other
I
will
leave
it
to
you
to
decide
which
of
which
I
speak,
but
putting
on
my
transition
team
hat
for
a
moment.
I
know
it
took
a
village
to
get
Rachel
to
this
moment.
So
to
echo
what
Becca
said
earlier
and
what
others
have
said,
I'd
like
to
take
this
moment
to
offer
thanks
to
all
the
villagers
and
a
few
key
folks
in
particular,
when
the
possibility
of
this
idea
of
this
day
was
just
a
kernel
of
an
idea
in
Rachel's
head.
K
There
are
discussions
in
hushed
tones
over
late
dinners,
long
lunches
and
early
breakfast
with
a
kitchen
cabinet
of
family,
close
friends
and
others,
and
you
all
know
who
you
are.
Words
of
encouragement
were
offered,
as
were
warnings
about
potential
landmines,
all
of
which,
in
true
Rachel
fashion.
She
promptly
ignored
the
idea
evolved
into
a
full-blown
campaign
team
led
by
Andy
George
and
a
staff
that
included
woo.
K
K
Having
trains
run
on
schedule
means
nothing
if
there
aren't
folks
around
to
see
that
the
fare
is
paid
and
as
someone
who
received
an
obscene
amount
of
fundraising
emails
from
rod,
lien
and
the
Finance
Committee
I
can
attest
to
the
amount
of
work
that
went
into
making.
What
was
one
year
ago,
a
seemingly
far-fetched
idea
into
the
inauguration
of
the
first
black
woman
to
ever
serve
as
a
top
prosecutor
in
the
state's
history.
K
And
speaking
of
the
money,
folks,
I
want
to
personally
thank
Kate
cook,
Paige
Scott
Reed
and
abeam
Thomas,
who
could
have
easily
ridden
off
into
the
sunset
after
the
election,
but
graciously
returned
to
the
fray
to
assist
our
inauguration
subcommittee,
guru
notis
in
making
today's
event.
What
despite
Becca's
flubs,
is
by
all
accounts
the
success.
K
K
K
I'd
like
to
recognize
my
co-chair
Marty
Murphy
for
his
leadership
and
his
lasagna,
one
of
which
I
will
remember
forever
to
our
steering
committee:
Reverend
Broderick,
notis
justice,
Hines,
Jessica,
hedges,
dan
Mulhern
Donna
paddle
on.
Oh.
Thank
you
all
for
your
insight,
your
perspective
and
your
hard
work.
K
Rachel's
first
of
many
mandates
to
the
steering
committee
was
that
we
compile
a
transition
team
that
was
diverse
and
inclusive
racially
geographically
and,
most
importantly
in
viewpoint
and
experience
to
Rachel
diversity
is
inviting
folks
to
the
party.
Inclusion
means
asking
them
to
dance
and
letting
them
choose
the
music
and
I
believe
we
did
that
as
I'm
sure
others
who
were
there
for
our
Saturday
orientation
sessions,
can
attest
the
opportunity
to
hear
and
to
understand
how
everyone's
path
to
that
conference
room
was
different.
K
K
And
I'll
close
by
donning
my
friend
hat
for
a
moment
all
of
the
work
that
all
of
these
people
did
wouldn't
matter
nearly
as
much
without
a
candidate
and
in
a
few
minutes,
a
district
attorney
who,
through
the
many
ebbs
and
flows
of
life
and
friendship
between
two
headstrong,
albeit
fabulous
women,
a
woman
I,
always
believed
in
Rachel.
On
the
day
of
the
primary
I
told
you
that
win
or
lose.
You
should
be
very
proud
of
everything
that
you've
accomplished.
K
A
Thank
You
Natasha
next
up
is
Rachel's
daughter
Peyton,
who
is
my
niece
Peyton
you
can
come
on
up,
Peyton
will
be
introducing
justice
Hines
and
her
mom
Rachel
come
on
up.
Hey
Peyton,
as
I
mentioned,
is
Rachel's
daughter,
she's,
a
freshman
at
BBN,
which
is
our
alma
mater
and
I,
have
to
brag
about
you
for
a
minute.
I'm.
Sorry,
I
just
do
you're
amazing.
So
Peyton
is
not
only
on
the
girls
varsity
soccer
team
as
a
freshman.
She
is
also
an
Olympic
track
athlete
holding
two
national
records
in
two
events,
but.
A
L
L
C
C
L
N
N
M
N
N
N
N
J
N
N
N
So
right
now,
I'm
gonna
ask
for
Pat
Hagen
to
come
up
and
join
me.
If
he
could,
is
he
here,
I
hope
come
on
down
Pat
Hagen,
so
Pat
as
he's
walking,
has
served
this
Commonwealth
in
an
amazing
way.
As
the
first
assistant
in
the
Suffolk
County
DA's
office,
he
is
an
exceptional,
exceptional
lawyer
and
the
few
months
that
I've
had
an
opportunity
to
meet
him
he's
an
even
better
person.
N
N
And
right
now
so
what's
happening
in
the
back,
everybody
is.
We
are
gonna,
ask
every
single
Assistant,
District
Attorney
in
the
Suffolk
County
DA's
office
to
please
stand
and
they've
already
done
it,
because
they're
that
good
they're.
That
good
I
am
also
gonna.
Ask
at
this
point
for
Donna
paddle
on
oh
and
Daniel
Mulhern
Danny
Mulhern.
Are
you
guys
here?
There's
like
spotlights
in
my
face?
I
can't
see
anything
all
right,
so
Donna
and
Dan.
We
are
announcing
now
that
I
am
very,
very
pleased
to
have
Dan
Mulhern
I
swiped
him
from
Mayor
Walsh.
N
And
I
am
incredibly
lucky
to
have
Donna
paddle
on
Oh
whoo
I'm
gonna
ask
to
be
my
general
counsel
and
we
are
lucky
to
have
her
and
I
hope
she
says
yes.
So
with
that
being
said,
Pat
is
gonna.
Read
the
first
part,
we're
all
gonna
raise
our
hands.
I'll
read
the
second
and
then
Pat
will
close.
So
let's
go
hands.
N
So
I'm
gonna
be
brief.
I
want
to
I
want
to
just
take
this
moment
to
thank
people
honestly
and
and
give
one
piece
of
advice
that
sort
of
goes
into
the
thinking.
When
people
ask
me,
you
know
how
did
how
did
you
win?
What
when
did
you
decide
this?
We
were.
We
were
really
fortunate
to
be
in
a
situation
where
we
made
it
out
of
the
primary
and
the
general
and
very
good
shape
and
I
will
say
to
anyone
in
this
room,
and
all
of
you
is
get
a
squad
like
I
do
like
legitimately.
N
If
you
do
not,
if
you
are
a
young
person,
and
you
don't
have
people
that
believe
in
you,
there
is
still
time
if
you
are
old
and
don't
have
a
great
squad
around
you,
you
need
to
look
at
yourself
and
figure
out
what
you
need
to
change
in
your
life
very
candidly,
because
I
am
so
fortunate
right
now
to
be
standing
here
with
my
parents,
my
siblings,
Rebecca
and
Jonathan
are
both
here.
I
have
a
beautiful
daughter
and
nieces
that
are
in
my
life.
N
I
have
a
wonderful,
wonderful
friend
in
my
former
campaign
manager
and
George,
who
sitting
in
her
living
room,
which
was
not
only
a
place
I
visited,
but
our
campaign
headquarters,
the
place
I
lived
and
many
other
things
just
having
people
around
me.
That
believed
as
much
as
I
did
in
me
and
I
wish
that,
for
you,
all
I
have
been
able
to
surround
myself
with
people
like
Natasha,
who
was
not
only
a
friend
but
co-chairing
my
transition
team.
N
My
little
sister
Rebecca,
who,
even
if
we
weren't
related
I,
would
still
be
very,
very
close
with
because
she's
fantastic
but
I
am
just
really
lucky
to
have
been
surrounded
by
incredibly
hard
working.
People.
I
would
not
be
here
at
all
if
it
were
not
for
those
individuals
and
then
there's
a
couple
groups
that
I
just
want
to
make
sure
that
they
get
the
proper
shout
out
where
our
Miami
gente
people-
yes
all
right.
So
me,
gente
came
out
for
us
like
crazy
gangbusters
and
we
loved
it
the
Chinese
progressives.
N
N
You
want
your
life
to
be
because
I
can
tell
you
two
years
ago
on
June
16th
I
got
a
call
and
was
told
that
I
had
cancer
and
had
to
have
a
conversation
with
my
daughter
about
whether
or
not
I
was
going
to
make
it
and
in
two
years
since
that
time,
I
decided
that
there
is
nothing
else
in
my
life
that
is
ever
going
to
be
able
to
tell
me
I
can't
do
something
and
what
I'm
telling
you
all
is.
It
does
not
take
cancer
for
you
to
make
that
determination
yourself.
N
I,
do
not
wish
that
on
any
of
you,
but
I
can
promise
you
that
unless
you
take
your
life
and
look
at
it
and
say
what
can
I
do
to
be
better?
What
can
I
do
to
be
the
best
person
that
I'm
supposed
to
be
whatever
that
is
you're
gonna
miss
out
on
a
lot
of
things,
so
I
am
standing
here
honored
to
the
hundred
and
fifty
of
you
back
there.
N
N
Looking
at
you
guys
can
we
make
some
eye
contact
all
right,
I
see
the
chief
of
the
MBTA
and
my
good
friend
superintendent
Richie
Sullivan
is
Revere
in
the
house,
nice
Revere,
that's
what
I'm
talking
about
Revere
and
then
Commissioner
gross
I
have
a
lot
of
work
to
do
with
you,
guys
and
I
know
you're
nervous,
but
guess
what
nervousness
is
exactly
what
change
needs
and
we're
going
to
be?
Okay,.
N
I
want
to
thank
the
members
of
City
Council's
from
all
of
the
parts
of
Suffolk
County
people
think
it's
just
Boston.
We
have
people
from
Chelsea,
Winthrop
and
Revere.
Here
we
have
a
lot
of
work
to
do,
but
I
am
I,
am
taking
an
office
that
Dan
Conley
and
Ralph
Martin
and
Newman
Flanagan
made
great
and
we
are
gonna,
make
it
we're
gonna
make
it
better.
We
are,
but
we
we
are
so
blessed
to
have
such
a
wonderful,
wonderful
office
for
me
to
take
and
as
John
Pappas
here,
John
Pappas.
N
So,
ladies
and
gentlemen,
John
Pappas,
who
is
also
another
exceptional
attorney
in
that
office,
has
held
down
the
fort
since
Dan
Conley
left
to
make
tons
of
money
at
mints,
lemon
and
and
what
I
can
tell
you
is
that
Dan
Conley,
Ralph,
Martin,
Jerry,
Leone,
Scot,
Harshbarger,
John,
Pappas
and
others
have
been
so
gracious
to
me
in
taking
my
phone
calls
and
I
will
continue
to
make
them,
but
we
are
ready
to
play
good
music
and
eat
delicious
food.
I
want
to
thank
you
all
for
being
here.
This
is
this
is
just
awesome.
A
So
now
we
are
at
the
end
of
the
afternoon.
Didn't
I
tell
you
that
be
amazing.
You
guys
can
sit
down,
feel
free
to
have
a
seat.
I,
don't
think
I
can
mess
this
part
up
anymore.
Cuz,
there's
only
two
other
things
and
I'm
going
to
save.
What's
going
to
happen
before
today
is
over
and
then
you'll
not
see
me
again.
So
thank
you
for
being
here
this
afternoon
again
where
I'm
gonna
call
up
Reverend
rasaan
hall
from
st.
A
Paul
AME
Church
for
the
benediction,
not
the
invocation,
the
benediction
right,
Natasha,
okay
and
then
Michael
Bradley
will
come
back
up
again
from
Bethel
AME
worship
team
for
the
last
song.
I
have
been
also
asked
to
remind
all
the
a
das,
the
Rachel
swore
in
that
you
have
to
actually
sign
your
oath.
So
please
go
to
the
lobby
after
this.
To
make
sure
you
sign
that
I've
been
instructed
to
say
that
so
moving
forward,
if
Reverend
rasaan,
Hall.
P
Let
us
center
ourselves
for
a
moment
of
prayer
and
this
benediction
the
benediction
a
final
blessing.
That
means
to
speak.
Well
of
so
let
us
speak
this
final
blessing
and
speak
well
of
this
administration.
Let
it
speak
well
of
its
servant,
leader
Rachel
Rollins,
who
was
elected
by
the
people,
to
serve
the
people
and
let
it
speak
well
of
a
vision
to
reduce
over
incarceration
and
eliminate
racial
disparities
by
bringing
forth
justice,
in
its
truest
sense,
a
divine
justice
that
is
rooted
in
restoration
transformation
and
healing
a
divine
justice
that
holds
accountable.
P
We
come
seeking
the
anointing
and
favor
of
God's,
most
bountiful
blessings,
knowing
that
you
are
a
God
of
righteousness,
mercy
and
love
guide,
the
hearts
of
those
who
seek
to
serve
and
keep
safe.
Your
people
give
them
the
conviction
of
your
spirit
that
they
would
serve
from
a
place
of
love
and
give
them
the
discernment
that
they
would
no
mercy.
P
Let
this
final
blessing
not
be
final,
but
rather
a
commencement
of
a
new
day,
a
new
day
of
unity,
a
new
day
of
peace
and
of
hope
and
a
new
day
of
justice,
and
we
offer
this
prayer
as
the
soul
filled.
Seekers
of
all
that
is
true.
All
that
is
righteous
and
all
that
is
just
and
the
People
of
God
said,
amen,
amen
and
amen.
