From YouTube: Prayer Vigil 5/30/20
Description
Mayor Martin J. Walsh hosts a prayer vigil with members of the clergy in response to the acts of violence and racism experienced throughout the United States.
A
Some
of
the
foremost
leaders
in
the
Boston
faith-based
community
I
also
want
to
recognize
all
of
the
clergy
in
our
city.
That
could
be
here
with
us
today
that
we
just
didn't
have
enough
space
for
everybody.
But
I
want
to
thank
all
the
faith
leaders
who
have
played
a
big
role
as
our
city,
grapples
with
the
events
that
this
past
week
as
we
confront
the
public
health
crisis
and
always
whenever
we
need
them
in
our
city.
A
The
clergy,
along
with
all
these
folks,
have
taught
us,
as
one
city
rooted
in
faith
and
united
by
love.
That's
who
we
honor
and
we
have
drawn
on
their
guidance
as
we
continue
working
with
the
police,
commission
ability
grants
and
local
offices
to
make
the
Boston
Police
Department
the
most
professional
community,
friendly
Police
Department
in
the
entire
United
States
of
America,
and
today,
once
again
we're
drawing
on
their
values
and
that
the
faith
leaders,
our
faith
leaders
have
taught
us.
A
A
Too
often,
we
all
hear
the
news
that
another
black
man
or
another
black
woman
has
been
killed.
Our
response
is
consistent.
I
can't
believe
this.
How
could
this
happen,
but
we
all
know
how
it
happens.
It's
a
part
of
the
history
of
hatred
and
violence,
that's
rooted
in
our
country's
past
and
continues
today
through
systemic
racism.
A
A
A
A
A
A
Our
black
neighbors
and
co-workers
are
exercising
their
right
to
demonstrate
and
to
demand
and
ask
for
change.
We
need
to
be
listening.
I
can't
be
standing
here
six
months
from
now
and
give
this
same
speech
and
give
these
same
words
and
some
of
the
demonstrations
have
turned
to
violence.
It's
certainly
hard
to
watch
because
for
me
personally,
I
know
the
mayor's
in
those
cities,
I
felt
the
pain
of
mayor
Frey
when
he
talked
about
the
murder
in
his
city,
I
saw
it
in
his
face.
A
I
know
that
Erica
said
he
is
concerned
about
what's
happening
in
Los
Angeles
and
we
had
a
conversation,
the
other
night
about
what's
happening
in
his
city
and
Mayor
Greg
Fischer
in
Louisville
Kentucky
on
what's
happening
in
his
city
amid
Durkin
in
Detroit,
what's
happening
in
his
city
and
the
theme
is
the
same.
It's
about
pain
and
hurt
and
understanding
and
recognizing
that.
A
If
there's
ever
a
moment
to
acknowledge
injustice
and
recommit
our
nation
to
eradicating
it,
it's
right
now,
it's
this
moment.
This
is
our
moment
in
time
to
make
a
difference.
This
is
our
moment
in
time
to
change
as
a
nation.
I
take
this
responsibility
very
seriously,
both
as
mayor
and
as
a
white
person.
Over
the
last
three
months,
the
people
of
Boston
have
come
together
in
powerful
ways.
I've
been
standing
at
this
podium
for
the
last
three
months.
A
I've
talked
about
how
we
came
to
this
podium.
We
recognized
that
in
the
black
and
brown
community
and
Latino
community,
the
rates
were
higher,
that
we
went
to
work
and
put
together
a
health
inequities
task
force.
I
talked
about
that
from
this
community
and
we've
seen
those
numbers
steadily
go
down,
not
because
we
put
a
task
force
together,
because
we
want
to
work
and
put
in
some
solutions
on
how
to
address
the
situation
about
inequities.
A
A
A
A
A
No
longer
infects
our
hearts,
we
stop
by
acknowledging
that
life
is
sacred
and
when
black
lives
are
threatened,
we
must
speak
up
and
stand
up
with
our
brothers
and
sisters.
We
must
put
an
end
to
bigotry
to
hate
the
injustice
with
the
same
urgency
that
we're
bringing
to
the
fight
against
this
global
pandemic.
A
A
A
B
B
B
You
should
lead
your
department
with
fair
and
impartial
policing,
procedural
justice
and
for
God's
sakes,
de-escalation.
This
is
what's
taught
in
21st
century
policing
has
touted
by
President
Obama.
Who
had
that
study
done?
We
should
not
ourselves.
Our
children
and
our
seniors
have
paved
the
way
ever
have
to
view
a
video
like
we
did
that
emanated
from
Minneapolis
as
an
officer
knelt
on
mr.
Floyd's
neck
until
he
was
calling
out
his
mother's
name.
B
That
is
not
the
way
we
police.
That
is
not
the
way,
we're
gonna
police
and
if
we
run
into
any
incidents
like
that,
we
will
handle
it.
I
am
speaking
for
in
Massachusetts
the
Massachusetts
major
City
Chiefs
mass
Chiefs
Association,
and
we
have
a
Massachusetts
chapter
of
national
organization
of
black
law
enforcement
executives
nationally,
the
International
Association
of
Chiefs
of
Police
and
the
major
City
Chiefs.
B
This
isn't
like
past
incidents,
you've
seen
all
of
us
come
out
and
denounce
those
actions
of
that
officer.
Excuse
me:
I
won't
even
call
him
an
officer
the
actions
of
that
man
taking
another's
life
in
front
of
us.
We
denounce
it.
We
support
the
termination
and
we
believe
that
all
of
those
that
participate
it
should
be
brought
to
justice,
because
that's
what's
right,
we're
taught
right
and
wrong
when
we're
raised
right
and
wrong,
and
then
we
have
to
see
this
again
and
again
and
again.
B
That
is
not
indicative
of
all
law
enforcement,
but
those
that
you
that
think
it
is.
We
have
to
prove
that.
Isn't
that
way!
That's
why
I
love
that
we
have
the
clergy
here,
because
in
the
days
of
yore
after
the
Civil
War,
it
was
clergy
that
were
the
ambassadors,
the
piece
that
bridged
the
gap
and
justified
the
importance
of
human
rights
and
civil
rights.
So
what
you
see
here
today
folks
is
not
a
show.
B
These
are
folks
representing
all
God's
children,
all
God's
children,
and
in
closing
thank
God
that
we
have
the
leadership
that
we
do
right
here,
representing
a
Boston
that
is
now
50%
people
of
color
in
a
city
where
the
first
responders
should
reflect
every
neighborhood
that
we
serve.
That's
the
way
we
conquer
racism.
That's
the
way
we
conquer
that
horrendous,
cowardly
act
of
taking
a
man's
life
is
by
getting
to
know
each
other.
B
C
The
members
of
the
faith
community
are
not
here
as
a
tool
of
the
mayor
or
the
police.
Commissioner,
we
are
not
here
to
placate
the
unrest
and
the
rage
that's
taking
place
in
our
community.
We
are
here
because
we
have
a
moral
obligation
to
be
here
because
we
care
there
are
cause.
No
justice,
no
peace.
C
C
You
ought
to
expect
us
as
clergy
to
do
the
right
thing
and
we
are
expecting
you
also
to
do
the
right
thing.
Let's
look
to
the
Lord,
our
mayor,
police
chief,
our
appointed
and
elected
officials,
citizens
of
Boston
members
of
the
faith
community,
dear
Lord,
may
your
kingdom
come.
May
your
will
be
done
on
earth
as
it
is
in
heaven.
C
In
your
word,
we
are
reminded
if
my
people,
who
are
called
by
my
name,
will
humble
themselves
and
pray
and
seek
my
face
and
turn
from
their
wicked
ways.
Then
will
I
hear
from
heaven
I
will
forgive
their
sin
and
heal
their
land.
Oh
God,
our
land
is
in
need
of
healing
the
plight
of
our
nation
is
not
a
new
one.
The
lack
of
resolve
for
the
endless
mutilation,
utilization
of
black
bodies,
the
disparity
between
the
haves
and
have-nots,
is
worsening
and
causing
more
unrest.
C
We
do
not
need
you
only
in
Dorchester
matter,
pan
Roxbury.
We
need
you
in
Chinatown,
South,
Boston,
East,
Boston,
Detroit,
st.
Louis,
Chicago,
Los,
Angeles,
Minneapolis
and
1600
Pennsylvania
Avenue
Lord,
hear
our
prayer
bring
deliverance
and
healing
and
bless
this
beloved
city,
our
beloved
mayor,
our
leadership
and
those
who
must
be
fed
by
hand
every
single
day
in
your
holy
name.
We
pray,
amen.
D
D
D
D
We
come
before
the
almighty
and
a
posture
of
prayer
to
cover
our
Commonwealth
in
this
time
of
trial,
and
we
pray,
especially
and
specifically,
for
every
black
person,
all
made
in
the
image
and
likeness
of
God
fearfully
wonderfully
beautifully
made.
The
no
harm
no
diseased
and
no
violence
would
befall.
D
Many
are
rightfully
and
righteously
angry
and
many
are
tired,
so
very
tired,
and
this
constraining
and
contorting
disease
of
white
supremacy
is
killing
God's
beloved
my
God,
my
God.
How
long
and
this
day
we
feel
the
ground
shake
and
the
nation's
tremble,
and
though
the
earth
should
change
and
though
the
waters,
roar
and
foam,
though
the
mountains
tremble,
with
tumult.
This
is
the
promise
of
old
God
is
in
the
midst
of
the
city,
and
it
shall
not
be
moved.
D
God
will
help
us
when
the
morning
Dawn's,
the
nations
are
in
the
uproar
the
kingdoms,
totter
but
God
others,
her
voice
in
the
earth
melts
and
God
is
with
us.
So
the
Almighty
Kindles,
a
righteous
anger
within
us.
His
systems
and
structures.
Crumble
God
make
us
bold
to
put
our
lives
on
the
line
for
the
liberation
of
all,
let
not
a
word
slip
from
our
lips
or
a
policy
pass
from
our
pens
that
does
not
liberate
all
of
the
people
and
shake
free.
D
What
needs
to
come
loose
heal,
what
is
so
very
broken
in
us
and
in
this
Commonwealth
Oh
Lord
she
lusts
and
banished
every
virus
that
would
seek
to
destroy
and
equip
us
O
God
for
the
work
ahead.
Guard
us
and
guide
us
give
rest
to
the
weary
and
strength
to
the
faint-hearted.
Come
Holy
Spirit
come
and
do
not
let
us
go
until
we
are
done.
Alleluia,
amen,.
E
Ever
gracious
god,
the
horrific
murder
of
George
Floyd,
has
left
us
angry
as
the
words
I
can't
breathe,
continue
to
ring
in
our
ears
and
hearts
as
we
ever
so
closer
slowly
moved
toward
a
new
normal
brought
about
by
the
pandemic.
We
need
to
remember
that
for
many
Americans,
especially
a
black
brothers,
the
promise
of
America
liberty
and
justice
for
all
is
not
a
promise
that
is
experienced
for
them.
Racism
and
its
many
dire
effects
are
tragically
and
painfully
they
are
normal.
As
a
city,
we
need
to
do
better.
We
want
to
do
better.
E
President
Obama
reminded
us
last
night
and
I
quote:
it
falls
on
all
of
us,
regardless
of
race
or
station,
including
the
men
and
women
of
law
enforcement
who
take
pride
in
doing
their
jobs.
The
right
way
every
day
to
work
together
to
create
a
new
normal
in
which
the
legacy
of
bigotry
and
unequal
treatment
no
longer
affects
our
institutions
and
our
hearts
gracious
and
loving
God.
As
we
gather
today,
we
commit
ourselves
to
listening
more
and
with
greater
intensity.
Do
you
often
unheard
cries
of
our
black
brothers
and
sisters?
E
We
pray
for
peace
in
our
city
for
renewed
friendships,
among
neighbors,
for
solidarity
and
unity
among
all
the
neighborhoods
of
our
beloved
city,
and
a
greater
appreciation
and
love
of
all
humanity.
Loving
God
fill
our
hearts
with
love
for
you
and
our
neighbor,
so
we
may
work
with
you
in
healing
our
city
and
nation
from
racial
injustice.
E
F
F
I
drove
to
Matapan
I
frantically
praying
calling
him
7
8
9
10
times
every
time
going
to
voicemail
that
hour
in
30
minutes
was
a
very
challenging
difficult
time
in
season
for
a
black
man,
the
black
father,
and
so
today,
I
stand
before
you
as
a
son,
a
father,
a
man
of
God,
but
a
black
man
and
in
the
world
infected
and
infested
with
racism,
institutionalized
racism,
sistex
them
systemic
racism
and
justice
in
every
form
of
disparity
and
inequality.
F
We
find
ourselves
humbly
standing
upon
the
hollow
ground
that
our
Lord
and
Savior
Jesus
Christ,
the
King
of
Kings
and
the
Lord
of
lords
that
he
has
created
and
we
call
on
the
name
of
the
or
Jesus
Christ,
that's
above
every
name
that
at
the
name
of
Jesus,
every
knee
must
bow.
Every
tongue
must
confess-
and
we
pray
hear
our
cry-
o
God-
a
tender
to
our
prayer
from
the
ends
of
the
earth.
Will
we
cry
unto
you,
when
our
hearts
are
overwhelmed,
lead
us
to
the
rock
that
is
higher
than
I?
F
That
is
higher
than
our
own
understanding?
That
is
higher
than
our
own
education,
that
is
higher
than
our
own
degrees.
Lord
lead
us
to
the
rock,
and
even
in
the
middle
of
uncertainty
of
questions
Lord,
we
we,
we
pray
Lord.
We
trust
you.
There
are
times
that
we
feel
helpless,
but
father.
We,
we
still
have
hope.
We
recognize
that
on
this
rock
or
you
have
built
our
city,
and
we
know
that
the
gates
of
of
death
and
injustice
and
racism
will
not
prevail.
F
F
We
cover
our
great
mayor,
Marty
Walsh
Lord,
as
he
leads
this
Commonwealth
and
the
city,
or
we
cover
our
police.
A
commissioner
william
gross
give
them
supernatural
wisdom,
divine
intervention
given
pump
prophetic
strategy,
Lord
Father,
we
are
covering
our
political
officials,
our
pastors
our
civil
rights
leaders,
Lord
give
us
divine
wisdom.
We
pray
the
prayer
that
you
are
told
us
to
pray
and
James
that
any
man
lacks
wisdom.
If
the
ask
that
should
give
it
to
him
freely
without
any
fault
father,
we
need
your
wisdom,
we
need
your
grace.
We
need
your
power
and
father.
F
F
I
H
We
know
fear
knocks
on
the
door
and
faith
answers
the
door
and
when
faith
answers
the
door
to
fear,
no
one
is
at
the
door.
No
one
is
at
that
door
when
faith
answers
the
door.
We
know
from
history
that
prejudice
and
hatred
is
rooted
in
fear
the
human
condition
of
sin,
whatever
it
is,
that
driving
force
to
fear
and
hatred.
H
We
pray
healer
of
our
every
ill
light
of
each
tomorrow,
give
us
peace
beyond
our
fears
and
hope
beyond
our
sorrows
be
with
us
to
do
good
and
so
as
to
help
others
not
hurt
them
that
we
might
feel
better
about
ourselves
by
helping
others,
give
us
strength
to
control
the
controllables
to
openly
discuss
calmly
and
comfortably
in
the
uncommon.
The
uncomfortability.
H
We
pray
for
our
entire
city,
all
black
people
and
people
of
every
color
bless
our
police
and
all
in
public
safety
bless
our
front
liners
in
pandemic
response
and
in
social
justice,
bless
mayor,
Marty,
Walsh,
Police,
Commissioner,
Willie
Graz.
All
our
leaders,
elected
and
public
servants
heal
and
bless
our
illnesses
of
prejudice,
racial
and
any
inequity.
Hatred
and
violence
bless.
Our
media
Lord
bless
our
media
there's
a
long
history
of
tension
in
this
city
in
this
nation
and
in
this
world,
and
so
we
pray
in
the
words
of
Deuteronomy.
H
That
which
I
enjoin
on
you
today
is
not
so
mysterious
and
remote
for
you,
it's
not
up
in
the
sky
that
you
should
say
who
will
go
up
in
the
sky
and
get
it
for
us
and
tell
us
of
it
that
we
may
carry
it
out.
Nor
is
it
across
the
sea
that
you
should
say
who
will
cross
the
sea
and
get
it
for
us
and
tell
us
of
it
that
we
may
carry
it
out
know.
It
is
something
very
near
to
you
already
in
your
mouths
and
in
your
hearts.
H
You
have
only
to
carry
it
out,
Lord
God.
We
remain
through
this
all
and
I
lelou
you,
people
and
the
people
of
the
Holy
Spirit
be
with
us
in
this
horrific
situation
of
hatred
and
racial
inequity
and
concerns.
In
the
backdrop
of
the
pandemic
virus,
we
pray.
The
pandemic
virus
is
remote
to
us
without
information
or
history.
H
Hatred
is
not.
We
have
a
history,
help
us
heal
this
age-old,
gaping
historical
wound
that
builds
up
violence
and
rage.
Everything
is
not
what
it
should
be.
Everyone
can
be
doing
what
they
can
to
stop.
The
spread
of
a
viral
germ
help
us
to
stop
the
spread
of
inequality,
injustice,
hatred
and
fear
help
us
all
as
wounded
healers.
We
pray
as
interfaith
adenine.
A
J
K
God's
name,
which
was
named
merciful,
benefactor,
the
merciful,
Redeemer
I,
witnessed
that
there's
nothing
worthy
of
worship
except
one.
The
creator
of
us
all
and
I
witness
that
Muhammad,
even
Abdullah
peace
and
blessings
of
Allah
be
upon
him.
I
extend
the
greetings
to
you,
the
citizens
of
Massachusetts,
to
our
elected
officials,
to
borrow
those
who
serve
in
the
public
way
for
all
those
who
may
be
down
and
out
for
all
those
who
may
be
on
method
and
method
of
Maya.
K
K
K
K
That
there
is
no
superiority
or
over
m
over
non-arab,
no
a
non-arab
over
an
Arab,
no
superiority
over
white
over
black
for
a
black
or
a
white.
The
only
superiority
is
the
one
who
is
closer
to
Allah.
The
Creator
I
am
NOT
here
today,
because
they
wait
to
the
black
or
black
kills
away
or
black
choose
a
black
or
white
kills
away.
K
No
I
am
here
because
Allah,
the
Creator
is
the
just,
and
he
says
to
us
o
you
who
believe
stand
out
firmly
for
justice
as
witness
to
Allah
the
Creator,
even
as
against
yourself
or
your
parents,
or
your
kids
and
relatives,
and
whether
it
be
about
or
against
the
rich
or
poor
for
Allah.
The
Creator
can
best
protect
both.
K
We
have
to
be
accountable
in
a
day
that
we
believe
is
coming
very
close,
so
there
is
no
getting
away.
There
is
no
escaping
if
you,
whoever
you
may
be
violate
another
human
being
for
the
sake
of
their
skin
color
for
the
sake
of
the
age,
for
whatever
is
in
your
mind
in
your
heart
that
you
determined
to
hurt
another
human
being
I'm
here
today
to
let
you
know
that
you
will
be
dealt
with
not
only
in
this
life
but
in
the
next.
K
So,
even
though
these
circumstances
are
upon
us,
we
pray
to
God
Almighty
that
he
is
in
charge.
Nothing
escapes
him.
Everything
is
written
down.
There's
an
angel
on
my
right.
There's
an
angel
on
my
left,
shoulder
all
of
our
shoulders,
write
everything
down
so
that
on
that
mighty
day
on
a
Judgment
Day
that
will
be
here
closed
for
every
single
one
else
will
be
here
quickly.
K
K
We
don't
know
when
we
don't
know
where
we
don't
know
how,
but
the
reality
is.
We
know
every
single
human
being
on
this
earth.
We
know
that
one
day
soon
somebody
will
be
doing
the
prayer,
a
Genessa
or
funeral
prayer
over
and
that
day
that
day,
when
we
all
have
to
meet
God
Almighty
that
day,
you
will
be
hoping
that
you
will
be
right
with
the
Lord.
So
let
us
start
in
this
life.
Let
us
get
our
life
together
in
this
life.
Let
us
respect
our
own
self.
K
So
we
pray
to
Almighty
God
that
he
hears
our
prayer,
which
we
know
he
does
so
not
a
soul
can
die,
except
by
the
permission
of
Allah,
the
Creator,
the
time
being
fixed
as
by
writing,
and
if
any
do
desire
a
reward
in
this
life,
we
shall
give
it
to
them.
But
if
any
desire
a
reward
in
the
next
life,
we
shall
give
it
to
them
and
swiftly
shall
we
reward
those
that
serve
us
with
gratitude.
K
We
have
to
change
our
thinking.
We
have
to
change
our
behavior.
We
have
to
change
our
attitude.
We
have
to
be
the
change
that
we
want
society
to
be.
Every
death
is
a
software
death,
black
white
Spanish.
It
doesn't
make
a
difference,
but
again
my
people,
the
African
Americans,
please
accept
the
best
of
yourself.
K
No
one
tells
you
when
you're
doing
wrong.
Your
own
self
tells
you,
when
you're
doing
wrong,
listen
to
your
soul.
Listen
to
the
best
of
you,
listen
to
what
your
mama
said.
Listen
to
what
your
daddy
said,
but,
most
of
all
again
listen
to
your
own
self,
because
before
you
do
anything
wrong,
something
comes
up
within
you.
Something
comes
up
within
all
of
us
and
reminds
us
that's
wrong
thing
to
do.
K
So
again
we
have
to
remove
ourselves
from
the
emotionality
of
life
and
we
have
to
come
into
the
understanding,
the
use,
our
intelligence.
What
is
best
for
me,
what
is
best
for
you
and
what
is
best
for
all
human
beings
so
again.
Finally,
a
lot
of
creator
says
he
will
not
change
the
condition
of
a
people
until
they
change
the
condition
of
themselves
and
me.
L
The
New
Testament
text,
the
first
feed
or
two
verses
one
to
three:
we
urge
that
supplications
prayers
intercessions
with
thanksgiving,
be
made
for
all
people
for
kings
and
all
those
in
high
position
so
that
we
may
live
a
quiet
life,
godly
and
dignified.
This
is
good
and
pleasing
in
the
sight
of
God
our
Creator.
L
Let
us
pray
father
God
in
the
name
of
Jesus
I,
come
to
you
today,
the
name
that
is
above
every
name.
You
are
declaring
us
that
at
the
name
of
Jesus,
every
knee
shall
bow
and
every
tongue
confess
that
you
are
Lord.
We
thank
you
for
this
time
of
Prayer,
where
we
can
run
to
you
where
we
can
call
on
you
and
father
I
lift
up
our
mayor
before
you,
the
honor
of
the
Marty
Walsh.
We
thank
you
for
his
leadership
in
Boston.
L
L
Ask
you
that
you
will
hear
our
plea
like
Daniel
stand
in
the
gap
today
and
I
pray
that
you
will
give
our
mayor
wisdom.
You
were
given
insight.
You
will
give
him
understanding
further
the
past
two
months
and
the
past
few
days
seem
like
a
vision,
but
you
give
me
insight
into
these
planta
mixer.
You
people
revelation.
You
keep
understanding,
I
pray
that
you
will
pour
out
your
anointed
on
him.
L
L
So
we
stand
on
the
authority
of
the
word
and
we
decree
and
declare
that
God
will
respond.
The
justice
belongs
to
God,
you
will
respond.
Danny
on
us
show
us.
What's
the
interpretation
of
the
writing
on
the
wall,
you
will
close
the
mouth
of
the
Lions.
Even
the
lion
of
racism,
I
stand
as
a
black
mother.
A
black
wife
have
a
black
husband
and
for
a
black
son
and
oh
God,
we
cry
the
scripture
when
our
heart
is
overwhelmed
when
broken.
L
L
Peace
so
touch
our
hearts.
Still,
the
heart
of
our
mayor
give
him
the
words
when
he
seems
not
to
be
able
to
find
it.
Give
him
peace
and
give
him
rest
give
him
strategists.
Given
the
principles
that
comes
from
beyond
human
understanding
and
for
us
as
faith
leaders
that
are
standing
now,
we
stand
always
we
serve
always
we
pray.
Always
we
cry
out
always
to
justice.
L
M
Is
there
as
our
gift
to
choose
to
rise
above
it
is
taught
that
God
gave
us
Torah,
because
God
needs
us
to
be
God's
hands
in
the
world.
In
our
Torah,
names
are
sacred,
each
name
tells
a
story.
You've
heard
them
already
today,
words
of
Torah
Cain
and
Abel
Abraham
Dena
Miriam
Moses,
but
we
also
tell
the
names
of
George
Floyd
Alma
dobry,
Brianna,
Taylor,
Eric,
garner
Trayvon,
Martin,
Michael,
Brown,
Freddie,
gray,
Walter,
Scott,
Sandra,
bland
amadou
diallo
and
it
killed.
Each
of
them
is
a
name.
Each
of
them
has
a
story.
M
Each
of
them
teaches
us
Torah,
and
so
it
is
up
to
us
to
bring
Torah
to
bring
teaching
to
bring
moral
leadership.
When
violence
flourishes,
we
need
Torah.
You
shall
not
stand
idly
by
the
blood
of
another
when
people
are
starving
because
of
a
global
pandemic
when
they
risk
their
health
and
the
lives
of
those
they
love
just
to
stand
in
line
for
a
food
pantry.
We
need
Torah
cursed,
be
one
who
subverts
the
right
of
the
stranger,
the
fatherless
and
the
widow.
M
When
corruption
rages
among
government
officials
opening
gateways
for
the
wealthiest
to
profit,
while
the
poorest
have
nothing,
we
need
Torah,
you
shall
not.
You
must
completely
have
honest
weights
and
completely
honest
measures
when
crowds
of
people
flagrantly
disregard
public
health
measures
for
their
own
enjoyment,
regardless
of
the
impact
on
others,
we
need
Torah,
which
teaches,
in
cases
of
a
contagious
affliction,
be
most
careful
to
do
exactly
as
the
little
bita
chol
priests
instruct
you.
M
When
government
officials
show
no
concern
for
the
deaths
of
the
most
vulnerable,
including
our
aged,
we
need
Torah,
which
teaches
you
shall
rise
before
the
ages
and
show
deference
to
the
old
when
people
attack
others
for
keeping
social
distance
or
for
wearing
masks,
we
need
Torah,
which
teaches
the
hostel
or
Alcock
omocha.
You
shall
love
your
neighbor
as
yourself.
M
You
shall
not
hate
another
in
your
heart.
I
come
here
today
with
these
words
of
Torah
on
behalf
of
all
those
in
my
community,
the
Jewish
community
I
come
as
a
woman,
who's
grown
up
right
with
privilege,
but
the
Jews
and
the
black
community
are
not
separate
I,
see
before
me,
the
faces
of
african-american
children,
men
and
women.
In
my
synagogue
of
black
rabbis
in
our
community.
We
are
one
and
together
in
this
moral
stance.
