From YouTube: World Series Public Safety Press Conference
Description
Mayor Martin J. Walsh hosts a press conference in the Eagle Room at Boston City Hall with Mitchell Modell, CEO of Modell's Sporting Goods to announce a local investment being made as the MLB World Series begins in Boston.
At the press conference, the Mayor will also be joined by Boston Police Commissioner William Gross, as well as city and state public safety officials to share public safety plans ahead of the MLB World Series.
Go Sox!
A
Good
morning,
on
behalf
of
mere
Welsh
I'd
like
to
welcome
you
all
here
today,
my
name
is
John
barrows
and
I'm,
chief
of
economic
development
for
the
city
of
Boston
and
glad
to
be
here
this
morning,
because
we
are
excited
because
the
Red
Sox
is
starting
Game
one
tonight
and
it's
a
great
day
in
the
city
of
Boston,
you're,
gonna,
hear
from
mayor
Walsh
and
Commissioner
grass.
Who
will
talk
about
the
celebrations
and
safety
in
a
few
minutes.
A
S
all
the
proceeds
that
day
went
to
the
Marcus
Martin
Richard
foundation
and
Modell's
and
Mitch
Modell
continues
to
be
a
great
partnership,
work
great
partner
for
the
city
and
continues
to
care
about
what
goes
on
in
the
city,
not
just
the
business.
So
we
are
thrilled
today
that
Modell's
will
be
joining
Bank
of
America
Suffolk
construction
partners,
Liberty
Mutual
in
helping
us
permanently
house
the
chronically
homeless
in
Boston
I'd
like
to
invite
Mitch
up
to
announce
the
generous
investment
Modell's
will
be
making
in
the
Boston's
way
home
fund
Mitch.
B
That
gives
us
great
honor
to
associate
ourselves
with
such
a
great
city
and
a
great
organization,
the
Boston
way
home
fund,
starting
today
we're
gonna
be
having
these
beetle
a
t-shirts,
and
we
want
to
meet
homelessness
at
the
same
time.
So
it's
a
double
win
for
everybody
and
we're
gonna
give
one
dollar
for
every
shirt
sold
to
the
Boston's
way
home
fund.
We
hope
to
raise
a
lot
of
money,
get
a
lot
of
excitement
and
hopefully
cure
the
homelessness
problem
that
we
have
in
Boston.
C
Me
let
me
just
first
of
all
that
I'm
gonna
thank
Mitch
I'm,
going
to
thank
you,
Mitchell
Modell's,
in
a
couple
minutes,
but
thank
you
as
well.
I
want
to
welcome
and
congratulate
the
president
of
the
Boston
Red
Sox
Ian
Kennedy
who's
with
us
today.
Thank
you,
Sam
we're
excited
about
this
weekend
this
week.
Thank
you
for
that.
I
was
talking
to
Sam
sim
call
me.
Last
week
after
the
Red
Sox
went
out
to
Houston,
and
he
said
you
know,
I
look
forward
to
coming
back
for
Game
six
I
said
all
game.
D
C
So,
thank
you.
I
also
want
to
thank
City
Council
to
McCarthy's
with
us.
Today.
We
have
commissioner
garage
who's
going
to
speak
in
a
few
minutes:
Commissioner
Finn
from
the
Boston
Fire
Department.
She
fully
from
EMS
Commissioner,
green
chief,
green
from
the
MBTA
police.
Thank
you,
John
burrows,
Tina,
Fey
andhaka
for
transportation,
I
think
I
got
everyone
City
Council,
Tim
McCarthy,
who
were
all
here
today,
we're
grateful
for
everyone
to
be
here
today.
C
First
of
all,
I
just
wanted
to
say
start
off
by
saying:
I
have
great
respect
for
Los
Angeles
Mayor
Eric
Garcetti
is
a
friend
of
mine
and
a
colleague
we
worked
very
closely
to
with
each
other
at
the
US
Conference
of
Mayors,
but
we
don't
lose
to
LA.
So
to
me,.
C
Let
you
know
that
so
we'll
talk
later
on,
we
hit,
we
did
have
a
conversation
yesterday.
He
wanted
to
bet
something
and
I'm
pretty
superstitious.
So
I
start
betting
after
after
the
first
three
bets
when
I
became
here,
you
know
the
Patriots,
the
Bruins
and
BC
lost
so
I
said:
let's
stop
and
then
very
next
sports
event
up
was
the
Numa
Patriots
in
Seattle
and
do
we
know
what
happened
there?
So
I
am
all
done
betting,
but
but
certainly
and
I.
Wanna
I
also
want
to
thank
the
Boston
Celtics
in
back
in
1982.
C
Mitch
talked
a
minute
ago
about
the
bosses
way
home
fund
and
it's
an
important
fund
to
a
lot
of
us
linea
Downey
from
Pine
Street
is
here.
We
want
to
thank
you
for
for
your
investment
in
that
fund.
To
date,
we've
used
new
tools
to
house
homeless,
folks
we're
using
data
we
hold.
We
hope
we
held
housing
surges
since
2015.
We
have
hosted
we've
housed
collectively
between
all
the
different
organizations,
including
the
Newman
home
across
the
street,
850
veterans,
chronically
veteran
homeless
veterans
in
our
city.
C
We've
ended
chronic
veterans,
homelessness
in
the
city
of
Boston,
with
housed
over
a
thousand
roughly
of
other
between
all
of
us
working
closely
together
over
1,800
chronically
homeless,
people
that
that
used
to
sleep
on
the
streets
of
Boston
that
tonight
actually
will
be
able
to
sit
in
their
home
and
watch.
The
Red
Sox
beat
the
Dodgers
tonight,
and
so
it's
exciting,
and
when
Mitch
calls
and
asked
you
know
he
wanted
to
do
something
for
the
city.
C
And
I
want
to
thank
you.
Thank
you,
everybody.
We
are
excited
about
the
World
Series
and
we're
taking
safety
around
the
park
and
around
the
city
of
Boston
very
seriously.
We
have
a
lot
of
experience
in
Boston
and
championships
and
and
certainly
a
lot
of
experience
in
celebrating
safely.
We
have
great
fans.
We
have
a
great
track
record
in
our
city
after
a
win
or
a
loss
to
respect
each
other
and
respect
the
city
of
Boston,
but
we're
not
leaving
anything
for
granted.
We
have
a
home
game
tonight
and
tomorrow
night
at
Fenway
Park.
C
If
there's
an
opportunity
to
clinch
a
series
in
LA
this
weekend,
we'll
be
ready
for
any
celebrations
that
might
move
forward.
Game,
six
and
seven
would
be
in
Boston
on
on
October,
30th
and
Halloween
night,
the
31st
and
we're
ready
for
a
true
team
effort.
We've
been
working
together
with
the
Red
Sox,
the
Boston
Police
Department
Boston
Fire
Department,
Boston,
EMS,
Boston
transportation,
Public,
Works,
special
events,
Neighborhood
Services,
the
MBTA
police
state
police.
C
We've
been
working
collectively
to
make
sure
that
we
have
a
good
plan
in
place
to
make
sure
that
everyone
has
a
safe
opportunity
here
in
our
city.
I
just
want
to
address
the
fans
directly
as
I
always
say,
you
know,
have
fun
cheer
and
celebrate,
be
passionate,
Boston
sports
fans,
but
be
responsible.
Let's
not
put
a
cloud
over
a
great
memory
here
in
our
city.
What's
gonna
be
happening
over
the
next
seven
to
ten
days
we
have
college
students
in
town
who
ever
who
haven't
experienced.
C
It's
a
playoff
run
like
we're
experiencing
now
with
the
Red
Sox.
They
and
everyone
else
know
that,
just
because
of
the
celebration
doesn't
mean
that
anything
goes.
We
we're
not
going
to
tolerate
public
drinking
disorderly
conduct,
climbing
on
buildings,
cars
and
infrastructure,
making
sure
that
be
respectful
when
you're
out
there,
regardless
of
what
happens,
make
sure
that
there's
other
people
safety
were
concerned
about
as
well.
B
C
Gonna
be
setting
up
we're
gonna,
be
asking
people
not
to
drive
the
certain
parts
of
the
city
of
Boston
and
we're
also
asking
people
in
the
neighborhoods
to
celebrate
responsibly
as
well,
because
we
can't
we're
not
gonna
focus
all
our
attention.
Just
around
friendly
Park
we're
gonna
be
focusing
our
attention
in
the
communities
as
well
in
the
different
neighborhoods
to
make
sure
that
we
move
forward.
The
officers
are
there
for
your
safety
instead
of
home
with
their
families.
C
Most
of
the
officers
I'm
going
to
be
working
over
the
next,
the
next
several
nights
are
ordered
to
work,
so
they're
gonna
be
there
to
make
sure
that
that
everyone
has
a
safe
opportunity.
This
is
an
exciting
time
in
Boston,
the
Red
Sox
set
a
record
for
wins
this
season
with
108
wins.
They
said
an
all-time
record
for
their
franchise
they're,
certainly
on
the
verge
they're,
four
games
away
from
being
world
champions
again
for
the
fourth
time
in
the
21st
century,
and
it's
important
for
us
as
we
do
that
as
we
celebrate.
E
Good
morning,
everyone,
mr.
Kennedy,
mr.
president,
first
in
the
nation,
go
Red.
Sox,
listen
folks,
I
stand
here
before
you
today
as
a
proud,
Red,
Sox
fan,
but
also
as
a
proud
Bostonian
we've
been
here
before.
All
we're
asking
folks
is
to
act
like
we've
been
here
before,
and
those
that
are
college
students
are
visiting.
We
just
ask
you
to
respect
our
city,
respect
our
ways
to
ensure
that
everybody's
safe,
the
mayor,
alluded
to
safety
everywhere,
not
just
Fenway
Park,
but
also
in
our
neighborhoods.
E
So
our
police
stations
in
our
great
neighborhoods
will
be
fully
staffed.
We
don't
want
anyone
to
think
that
all
of
our
resources
are
at
Fenway
Park,
because
quite
frankly,
that
is
not
true.
So
we
will
have
coverage
in
the
neighborhoods
as
well
as
Fenway
Park
for
the
Fenway
Park
area
and
celebration
of
the
World
Series,
and
to
ensure
that
everyone
is
safe
and
secure.
E
We
will
have
additional
assets
to
provide
security
and
that
will
be
from
the
first
responder
family
as
we
work
together
to
the
inclusion
of
the
transit,
the
State
Police
and
also
our
federal
agencies
as
well.
You
will
see
officers
in
uniform
and
we
will
have
officers
and
agents
in
plain
clothes
as
well
again
to
ensure
safety
at
this
large
venue
as
well.
E
We
want
you
to
act
responsibly
by
ensuring
that,
if
you
drink,
if
you
imbibe,
let's
do
so
responsibly,
absolutely
no
drinking
and
driving
and
in
celebration,
we
want
you
to
act
responsibly
again
in
how
you
drink.
We
want
the
Red
Sox
nation
to
be
respectful
of
the
Dodgers
fans
and
the
Dodgers
fans
to
be
respectful
of
the
Red
Sox
fan
it's
a
serious
competition.
E
We
know
who's
first
in
the
nation.
So
let's
act
like
we're
first
in
the
nation
and
that's
the
Red
Sox.
The
mayor
also
stated
that
there
will
be
parking
restrictions
and
traffic
restrictions.
This
is
insured
to
ensure
safety
with
the
pedestrian
flow
and
the
traffic
flow
and
to
ensure
safety
as
a
games
being
played.
So
I
have
typed
here.
So
there's
no
confusion.
The
areas
of
restrictions
around
Fenway
Park,
so
at
6:00
p.m.
E
no
trucks
over
3/4
ton
will
be
on
Brookline
Ave
from
Park
Drive
to
Beacon
Street
on
hips
wit
street,
from
Boylston
Street
to
Hemingway,
Street,
to
1200,
Boylston
Street,
to
Vaness
Street
and
from
Ipswich
to
Kilmarnock,
to
Jersey
in
Yawkey
Way
and
from
Boylston
Street
to
Brookline,
we'll
also
be
providing
this
on
BPD
news.com
and
we'll
tweet
it
out
to
so
everybody
can
see
it
so
it'll
be
on
all
forms
of
social
media.
So
that's
at
6
p.m.
at
7
p.m.
E
E
One
other
thing
we'd
like
to
mention:
there
are
criminals
out
there
who
will
prey
on
you
if
you
think
you're
getting
the
best
deal
in
your
life
on
World
Series
tickets
just
buy
the
tickets
from
reputable
agents
because,
as
we
know,
this
is
a
time
of
computers,
they're
gonna,
look
real
they're
gonna
feel
real,
but
then
you
will
be
turned
away
at
the
gates,
because
it's
the
tickets
are
counterfeit,
so
be
aware
of
your
rights
and
make
sure
you
buy
the
tickets
from
reputable
agents.
I
like
to
thank
you,
sir,
as
well.
E
E
C
F
C
Just
stand
I'll
turn
over
the
Commissioner,
just
the
preparation
for
this.
You
know
understanding
the
other
day.
The
other
night
I
call
the
Commissioner
after
leading
into
Game
five
and
asked
him
about.
You
know.
Are
we
prepared
for
this
and
he
had
already
met
with
the
team
and
and
the
the
the
deputy
superintendent's
know
what
to
do.
Everyone
knows
what
to
do
already,
and
it
really
is
it's
amazing
now
that
we
tweak
it
as
time
goes
on
with
the
incidents
that
happened
in
Las
Las
Vegas
last
year
and
in
different
incidents
that
happened.
C
You
you
make
adjustments
to
the
plan,
but
I'm
just
amazed
by
how
prepared
our
first
responders
are
and
in
all
of
them
working
closely
together.
We
don't
see
this,
but
behind
the
scenes
as
conversations
going
on
between
the
Fire
EMS,
the
police
department,
all
the
different
police
departments,
we
have
that
coverage
different
jurisdictions
and
just
the
coordination
services
is
amazing
and
you
learn
every
and
unfortunately
time
there's
an
event
around
the
country.
You
learn
more
and
more.
C
You
pick
up
little
little
pieces
from
that,
but
I
think
you
know
in
Boston
here
we
have
it
down.
Pretty
pretty
well
as
far
as
when
the
game
is
over
as
every
game
goes
on,
it
gets
more
intense
and
you
can
see
the
you
know:
the
the
the
police
personnel
more
people
down
the
park,
you're
sorry
in
game,
the
difference
between
game
1
and
game
2
last
year,
and
it
last
last
week
and
we're
gonna
see
it
as
as
the
as
the
series
continues
to
progress
here.
E
Also
that
encompasses
everybody
in
the
first
responder
family.
Yesterday
we
had
a
meeting
with
all
of
the
colleges
in
Boston
to
ensure
that
the
public
has
eyes
and
ears
everywhere,
because
when
we're
separated,
only
certain
people
benefit
from
that.
We
want
to
make
a
strong,
showing
and
let
everyone
know
all
of
our
colleges.
E
G
E
Again,
to
keep
the
public
informed
of
exactly
what
we're
doing
so,
if
you're,
the
more
informed
you
are
the
better
cooperation
we
have
as
you
go
in
and
out
Fenway
Park
and
as
we
celebrate
in
the
communities
as
well
so
every
year,
every
time
we're
at
the
World
Series
or
a
Super
Bowl.
We
just
learn
and
make
it
bigger
and
better
and
again
it
all
comes
down
to
strengthening
the
first
three
that
I
mentioned.
You
know,
coordination,
cooperation
and
communication.
Just
strengthen
those
three
you'll
be
fine.
Every
time.
B
G
C
That's
the
first
part
we're
excited
about
it,
certainly
making
sure
that
we
all
of
those
venues
will
do
well
over
the
next
couple
of
days.
I
think
the
same
can
be
said
for
the
causeways
treaty
area,
when
the
Bruins
and
Celtics
are
in
and
they've
run
late
into
the
playoff.
So
a
lot
of
those
restaurants
and
bars
down.
C
I
mean
we
hear
a
lot
of
that
in
different
neighborhoods
right
now,
not
just
the
Fenway
area
but
other
places,
but
in
the
Fenway
area
we
were
play
a
lot
of
those
buildings
that
were
placed
weren't
housing.
We
didn't
replace
higher
end
housing,
middle
class
housing
with
with
luxury
housing
that
wasn't
there
that.
Well,
if
you
remember
back
on,
maybe
some
people
don't
they
live,
didn't
live
here,
but
there
was
a
lot
of
warehouses
in
the
Fenway
area.
It
wasn't
the
same
neighborhood
it
is
today
there
are.
G
C
F
D
You
well,
first
of
all,
thanks
to
everyone
at
the
city,
Mayor
Walsh,
Commissioner
gross
for
doing
what
they
always
do
in
postseason
play
and
throughout
the
year,
which
is
give
the
Red
Sox
Fenway
Park
the
resources
that
we
need
for
our
number
one
priority
which
believe
it
or
not
is
not
winning.
It's
fan
safety
and
fans
security.
That
is
the
most
important
thing
we
cannot
have
any
incidents.
D
If
you
see
something
say
something
tell
a
security
guard,
a
fan,
ambassador
police
officer
we're
here
to
help
and
make
sure
everyone
has
a
safe
and
enjoyable
time,
because
going
to
a
World,
Series
baseball
game
at
Fenway.
Park
is
a
memory
that
you'll
cherish
for
a
lifetime,
so
we're
appreciative
of
it.
F
D
We
have
a
very
strict
code
of
conduct
at
Fenway,
Park
and
just
the
the
first
rule.
We
learned
in
kindergarten
right
treat
everyone
how
you'd
want
to
be
treated
yourself,
I
would
say,
be
respectful.
We
want
you
to
be
loud.
We
want
you
to
be
intense,
we're
known
for
that,
so
come
to
the
game,
ready
to
go
and
be
fired
up,
but
at
the
same
time,
let's
treat
everybody
with
respect,
dignity
and
show
the
world
that
Boston
is
truly
a
city
of
Champions.
