From YouTube: Boston Police Summer Strategy Meeting
Description
With summer just around the corner, Boston is already making plans.
Mayor Walsh and BPD Commissioner William Evans met with various city agencies and community partners at the Boston Police Headquarters in Roxbury, to review public safety issues and the city's plans for the upcoming summer months.
A
A
A
We
just
had
have
some
a
strategy
meeting.
It
was
a
very
good
meeting.
You
know
we're
clergy,
community
organizations,
nonprofits
again
working
on
making
the
city
a
safe
city
and
trying
to
stop
the
violence.
You
know
we
recognize
June,
July
and
August
busiest
month,
especially
when
it
comes
to
gun
violence.
A
So
we
brainstorm
on
a
lot
of
the
programs
we
have
and
we
brainstorm
on
ideas
that
we
didn't
have,
and
it
was
a
very
productive
meeting-
and
you
know
the
mayor
talked
about
all
the
summer:
jobs
we're
create
all
the
camp
all
the
ways
we
can
keep
the
kids
safe
over
the
summer.
So
overall,
the
meeting
went
very
well
ya.
B
Know
it's
just
about
what
a
lot
of
we
talked
about
was
was
not
keep
policing
by
peace.
Walks
are
really
doing
with
the
clergy
in
the
community
connecting
people
to
services
connecting
communities
to
services,
whether
it's
our
beatboxing
centerpieces
and
families,
or
the
Boys
and
Girls
Clubs,
really
trying
to
take
some
of
the
strategies
that
we
had
last
year
that
we
had
a
relatively
peaceful
summer.
And
how
do
we
Institute
those
programs
and
do
it
again?
We
have
another
operation
extra
class
coming
on.
B
We
have
556
recruits
coming
out
of
that
the
the
Academy
next
to
in
the
next
two
weeks,
so
we're
going
to
get
those
in
the
areas
of
George
to
Roxbury
Mattapan,
so
really
just
working
with
everyone
to
get
on
the
same
page
and
do
the
complete
outreach
to
the
neighborhood
so
feel
good,
we're
heading
into
the
summer.
I'd
rather
have
these
meetings
now
that
hasn't
meetings
in
reaction
to
an
incident
that
might
happen
in
the
street.
So.
B
Oh,
no,
you
can
and
look
at
what's
happening
awesome.
Last
couple
years
we've
had
a
reduction
in
the
rest.
By
25%
this
year,
we've
seen
a
50%
reduction
already
so
really
in
the
three
of
period
three
Navia
period
we're
seeing
the
rest
on
by
40%
almost
in
saying
that
it's
relationships,
it's
creating
opportunities
for
employment.
It's
making
sure
that
we
have
good
street
workers
in
the
street.
It's
trying
to
identify
the
kids
that
are
the
targeted
kids
of
the
trouble
kids
and
how
do
we
continue
to
work
with
them?
B
What
both
men
in
when
girls
and
boys
working
with
youth
league?
So
you
know,
I,
see
what's
happening,
Chicago
I
see
what's
happening
in
Baltimore
this
year.
The
numbers
of
homicides
are
pretty
high.
We
don't
want
to
go
back,
then
we
got
to
continue
to
work
and
I
know
those
cities
are
working
hard
to
the
challenges
they're
not
only
into
multiple,
but
we
don't
want
to
get
to
that
point
near
Boston.
So.
B
Summer,
jobs
they're
trying
to
expand
our
summer
jobs
a
little
bit
an
operation
exit.
We
have
a
clash
going
on
in
the
next
two
weeks.
Those
are
two
of
the
big
pieces
that
we
have
going
on
and
then
trying
to
try
to
do
some
more
community
engagement,
I
think
that
that's
one
of
the
pieces
that
we
every
year
we
ask
the
community
engagement.
B
We
change
the
hours
that
our
Boston
Center
view
the
families
pools
in
areas
where,
before
they
should
be
out
at
7
o'clock,
now
they're
open
till
9
o'clock
and
we're
just
talking
to
the
police
department
about
with
when
these
centers
open
up
and
when
they're
closing
at
night,
we
have
police
presence.
Do
kids
feel
safe,
that
they'll
come
to
the
center
and
not
worry
about
when
they're
getting
out
that
they
run
into
problems.
A
A
You
know
we'll
be
involved
with
the
YMCA
getting
these
kids,
you
know
weak
scholarship,
we
can
getting
the
memberships
working
with
the
Boys
and
Girls
Clubs
bosses,
the
center
centers,
you
know,
so
it's
all
about
keeping
the
kids
busy
and
keeping
them
safe
and
I
know
having
a
general
to
have
Reverend
Jones.
We
want
to
come
up
he's
a
big
partner
in
peace
locks
and
keeping
that
dudley
wall
and
guidance
very
safe,
I'm.
E
Certainly
honored
to
be
here
and
certainly
we'll
work
with
the
mayor
and
the
Commissioner
as
we
try
to
bring
a
better
view
to
the
community.
It
takes
a
village
to
raise
a
child.
It
takes
good
people
of
goodwill
working
together
for
a
better
community
and
that's
what
this
is
all
about.
I
certainly
applaud
the
mayor
and
the
Commissioner
for
all
that
they
do
they're
rock
stars
when
they
walk
out
of
the
community
and
I'm
just
happy
to
be
in
their
presence.
Thank
you
very
much.
F
A
I
think
some
of
them
was
just
again
to
keep
the
kids
as
busy,
whether
it's
keeping
the
community
centers
open.
Later,
you
know
more
locations
where
the
police
can
engage
with
the
kids
again
all
the
different
camps.
So
we
talked
about
different
ways
for
the
police
to
earn
the
trust
of
the
young
kids.
You
know
get
into
the
summer
schools.
You
know
gocha
Boys
and
Girls
Clubs.
A
You
know
we
have
a
program
where
we
go
into
the
clubs
and
we
let
them
know
all
the
different
tactical
like
we
bring
in
the
dogs
one
day
we
bring
them
to
the
boats.
We
have
two
junior
police
academy,
so
it
was
all
different
ways
and
I
challenge
the
group
to
come
up
with
different
ways
that
we
can
engage,
that
we
haven't
tried.
So
we're
going
to
do
a
Father's,
Day
walk.
A
A
The
other
day-
and
we
just
talked
about
that-
you
know
how
homicides
are
right,
where
we
were
last
year.
Overall
pi-1
crime
is
down
10%,
but
we
were
up
about
14
shootings
from
where
we
were
last
year.
Thank
God,
a
lot
of
them
were
minor,
shooting
the
last
three
we
had
this
week
too,
we're
in
the
leg.
One
was
in
the
ankle,
but
we
realized
you
know
they
could
have
well
been
homicides.
A
That's
why
we
have
to
work
together
and
one
of
the
biggest
challenges
I
asked
everyone
in
that
room
was:
why
does
a
16
and
17
year
old
find
the
need
to
carry
the
high-velocity
weapons
and
I
really
stressed?
We
need
the
community's
help
to
get
those
guns
off
the
street,
because
that's
what
we're
seeing
now
and
that's?
Why
I
think
you
know
we're
up
slightly
on
the
shooting,
but
together
we
got
to
work
to
get
these
guns
off
the
street,
there's
something
wrong.
A
B
Guns,
this
has
too
many
guns
on
the
street.
I
think
the
bottom
line
is
when
you
look
at
when
you
look
at
what's
happening
in
urban
America,
we
have
done
every
time
we
try
to.
Please
we
try
to
do
background
checks
on
guns.
The
president,
the
new
president
lifted
the
executive
order
from
the
old
president,
whether
it
was
a
72
hour
background
check.
I
mean
three
days.
B
That's
what
we're
asking
for
to
make
too
much
access
to
guns
here
and
we're
going
to
looking
at
doing
another
summit
with
the
New
England
Mayors
we've
done
two
already,
but
now
we
have
a
white
house
that
is
Pro
NRA,
that
is
Pro
getting
more
guns
on
the
street
and
I'm,
not
necessarily
just
blaming
them.
We
have
too
many
guns
in
urban
America.
B
F
A
I
think,
obviously
you
see
a
lot
more
security
out
there.
You
know
first
thing:
I
did
last
night
is
called
Amir
and
let
him
know
what
was
happening
and
how
we've
stepped
up
effort
over
the
last.
You
know
first
thing
this
morning
and
I
was
talking
to
head.
You
know:
Charlie
salucci
had
a
fenway
security.
Ami
ami
Lattimore
from
the
guidance
security
I
talked
to
dawn
law
today
about
picking
up
security
measures
needed
around
all
the
nightclubs.
A
So
we're
going
to
we've
done
a
lot
of
outreach
in
the
past
after
the
pulse,
nightclub,
shooting
and
we've
done
active
shooter
training
and
we'll
continue
to
work
with
them
to
make
sure
all
the
venues
of
stay
but
I
gotta
stress
you
know,
I
was
talking
to
Hank
Shaw
from
the
FBI
Boston
this
morning.
There's
no
threats
to
the
city
with
Memorial
Day
coming.
You
know,
people
should
go
about
their
business
and
you
know
will
step
on
up
on
security.
A
25
again
we
reached
out
to
the
managers
of
Boston
calling
today.
Obviously
we
will
step
up
some
of
the
visibility
both
in
and
out.
You
know
we'll
have
our
bomb
technician
and
the
dogs
healthier,
but
you
know
there's
no
swag,
you
know.
Unfortunately,
we
live
in
a
crazier
world
now
where
people
will
want
to
hurt
young
children
like
they
did
yesterday,
but
you're
going
to
see
an
increased
presence,
we're
going
to
work
closely
with
all
these
venues
that
have
quite
quite
a
capacity
tonight
at
Fenway,
Thursday
night
and
the
Celtics
come
back.
F
C
A
Again,
the
way
we
do
it
with
a
lot
of
special
events
and
we
did
it
with
the
Boston
Marathon
bombing.
We
have
operations
seal
coming
as
we
set
up
various
parameters
and
we
have
offices
of
trains
in
looking
for
the
characteristics
of
someone
who
might
be
telling
the
bomb.
A
lot
of
our
officers
have
had
that
type
of
training.
So
if
we
can
get
eyes
and
ears
a
block
away
on
people
approaching
and
do
a
multi-layered
approach
so
when
they
get
to
the
door,
they've
already
had
their
eyes
on
it.
A
Those
are
some
of
the
things
with
them.
We,
unfortunately,
you
know
what
happened
last
night
was
outside
the
security.
What
you
see
in
Air
Force
is
happening
outside,
so
we're
we're
and
that's
why
we
did
what
we
did
with
Fenway.
You
know
we
had
a
shutdown,
Lansdowne,
Street
I
know
some
people
were
inconvenient,
but
the
whole
idea
of
Isis
in
these
groups
using
cots
and
whatnot
that
that's
why
we
did
that.
A
B
I
mean
I
mean
I,
just
think
the
one
thing
I'll
say:
if
you
see
something
say
something
call
nine-one-one.
If
you
see
something
out
of
the
ordinary,
let
us
know
I
mean
our
police
department
is
extremely
trained
and
they
prevented
a
pretty
horrible
accident,
something
that
could
have
been
a
terrorist
attack
a
couple
years
ago
and
part
of
that
is
by
something
making
that
first
call
so
somebody
see
something
out:
there
grab
a
grab,
a
public
safety
official
or
call
the
police
department
we're
going
to
fall,
but
everything
they.
