It
is
meant
to
be
a
space
for
reflection
for
gathering
and
in
the
very
middle
in
the
center.
Under
that
city.
Seal
is
where,
just
a
few
months
ago,
we
submerged
a
time
capsule,
so
that
we
could
send
our
bit
of
history
into
the
future,
and
so
today
we're
adding
more
to
that
history.
That
boston
is
making.
E
E
Thank
you
to
all
of
the
staff
who
have
spent
an
incredible
amount
of
time,
putting
this
together
from
our
city
hall
staff
to
our
events,
planning
team
to
the
boston
police
staff
and
welcome
to
the
cox,
family,
friends,
faith
leaders,
our
boston,
police
command
staff,
captains
officers.
I
know
the
recruits
have
a
test
today.
They
told
me
over
the
weekend,
so
they
couldn't
be
here
and
to
my
colleagues
in
government.
E
E
E
I
was
passing
out
flyers
rushing
around
trying
to
meet
as
many
people
as
possible
in
my
first
city
council
campaign
and
as
usual,
he
was
not
making
a
big
deal
of
the
leadership
role
that
he
had
the
service
that
he
has
contributed
to
the
city.
He
was
just
a
dad
watching
his
kids
softball
game
in
the
city
that
he
grew
up
and
loved
where
he
is
raising
his
family.
E
Because
I
had
been
told
that
it
would
be
impossible
to
find
someone
who
could
embody
all
the
qualities
that
boston
was
looking
for
in
our
police.
Commissioner,
in
this
moment
I
had
been
told
it
was
too
long
a
list
that
we'd
assembled
from
all
the
public
listening
sessions,
all
the
stakeholder
meetings.
E
E
E
E
You
all
are
there
all
across
the
city
in
every
neighborhood
and
I'm
so
grateful
and
proud
that,
in
my
role,
my
nine
months
so
far,
I've
been
able
to
finally
give
birth
to
a
leader
who
you
all
deserve
a
leader
that
our
city
deserves,
and
so
I'm
incredibly
proud
grateful
and
inspired
at
the
future.
For
the
city
with
commissioner,
michael
cox,
at
the
helm
of
our
boston
police
department,.
E
F
E
E
G
That
I
will
faithfully
and
partially
perform
all
the
duties
incumbent
upon
me
as
commissioner
as
commissioner
of
the
boston
police
department.
According
to
the
best
of
my
abilities.
According
to
the
best
of
my
abilities
and
understanding
agreeably
constitution
of
the
united
states
of
america
to
the
constitution
of
the
united
states
of
america
and
the
laws
of
this
commonwealth.
E
E
G
G
G
G
G
G
Thank
you
for
all
that
you've
done
in
the
police
department.
G
G
I
thank
you
so
much
for
supporting
me
and
allowing
me
to
make
law
enforcement
my
life's
work,
regardless
of
the
circumstances
that
we
might
have
gone
through,
and
I
I
truly
appreciate
it
and
love
you
all.
G
If
we
want
to
meet
this
moment,
we
need
to
come
together
and
successfully
change.
How
we
please
to
do
this,
we'll
be
looking
to
partner
with
the
community
and
make
this
a
reality
through
listening
to
partnership,
to
figuring
out
better
ways
to
serve
the
public
under
the
conditions
that
we're
living
in
today.
G
G
G
G
G
G
G
I
unfortunately
have
a
unique
perspective
on
this,
but
that
perspective
makes
me
more
committed
in
this
area.
I
do
want
to
note
that
I
was
able
to
overcome,
or
at
least
deal
with
what
I
went
through.
You
know
the
resilience
that
I
showed
the
mid
amid
and
after
that
horrible
incident.
G
G
They
endured
quite
a
bit
in
life
and
even
their
early
entry
into
the
city.
Here,
during
a
time
when
you
know
racial
incidents
were
were
quite
common
here
in
the
city,
but
I
learned
resiliency
from
them.
I
learned
that
what's
important
in
life,
you
have
to
stand
up
to
people
and
deal
with
things.
If
you
want
to
be
successful
and
actually
achieve
something-
and
those
were
my
role
models,
you
know
growing
up
in
a
lot
of
ways
and
that
helped
me
tremendously.
G
G
G
I'm
here
to
say
that
as
people
struggle
and
have
battles
throughout
this,
this
city,
that
the
boston
police
department,
we're
going
to
be
here
to
support
them
in
any
way
possible
officers
have
a
difficult
job
and
they're
doing
a
great
job.
Currently
boston
has
one
of
the
lowest
crime
crime
statistics
in
the
country
for
major
city.
G
So,
as
a
police
officer,
you
know
we're
taught
the
old
adage
that,
at
the
end
of
the
day
that
we
have
a
right
to
go
home
safely,
but
I'm
here
just
to
remind
you
know
the
people
that
serve
is
that
we're
here
to
serve
the
citizens
of
boston?
And
while
I
don't
agree,
don't
disagree
with
the
adage.
G
G
G
G
G
This
is
a
day
full
of
hope.
Even
though
I
look
pretty
somber,
because
I'm
about
to
cry,
I
feel
like
right,
because
we're
going
to
try
to
reimagine
the
police
but
reimagine
in
a
way
different
than
maybe
some
of
the
rhetoric
that
you
might
have
heard
we're
going
to
be
better
we're
going
to
be
stronger,
we're
going
to
build
off
the
strengths
of
every
individual
that
works
there,
both
sworn
and
civilian,
we're
going
to
reach
out
and
make
contacts
with
the
community
in
a
way
like
we
did
before.
G
G
So
with
that
said,
I
ask
everyone
who
loves
this
city
to
please
join
us
in
helping
move
the
boston
police
department
forward,
whether
you're,
an
academic
institution
law
enforcement
agency,
the
public
we
we
ask
you
to
join
us,
give
us
feedback
on
how
we
can
be
better
and
work
with
us
as
we
try
to
certainly
face
the
challenges
that
the
city
has
and
actually
serve
you.
The
way
you
need
to
be
served.
G
D
Let
us
pray
loving
and
gracious
god
as
we
thank
you
on
this
beautiful
summer
day.
For
this
auspicious
occasion,
we
ask
your
blessing
on
all
of
us
here
gathered
and
all
whom
we
represent
the
faith,
the
people
and
the
visitors
to
our
city
of
boston
in
a
particular
way.
Today,
lord,
as
we
express
our
gratitude
to
you,
we
thank
you
for
the
efforts
of
our
mayor
and
other
elected
and
appointed
civic
officials.
D
We
thank
you
for
the
men
and
women
of
the
boston
police
department,
the
command
staff
and
superior
officers,
the
police
officers
on
the
beat
in
a
particular
way,
lord,
on
this
day
of
new
beginnings,
we
thank
you
for
the
stewardship
of
superintendent
and
chief
gregory
gregory
long
who,
for
so
many
months,
helped
helm
this
department
we're
grateful
lord
for
the
presence
and
for
the
work
of
those
commissioners
who
proceed.
Commissioner
cox,
as
he
mentioned,
lord,
we
ask
that
you
continue
to
grace
him
with
the
ability
to
build
on
their
achievements
in
a
particular
way.
D
This
day,
lord,
we
ask
you
to
bless
commissioner
cox,
as
we
welcome
him
home,
as
he
embraces
the
particular
duty
which
you
have
laid
out
for
him.
Together
with
his
wife,
dr
kimberly
cox,
his
children,
his
family
bless
them
lord,
as
they
share
the
gifts
of
faith,
hope
and
love,
compassion,
courage
and
commitment
with
all
of
us
here
in
our
city
in
a
special
way.
Lord,
as
the
commissioner's
administration
and
tenure
begins
today,
we
ask
you
to
help
him
help.
D
Our
police
department
grow
in
its
capacity
to
be
messengers
of
your
mercy,
protectors
of
your
peace.
People
who
provide
healing
and
hope
to
those
in
need
help
all
of
us,
lord,
whatever
neighborhood.
We
are
a
part
of
to
remember
that
we
can
do
more
things
better
together
than
we
can
do
apart
and
that
all
of
us,
as
your
daughters
and
sons,
lord,
are
worthy
of
the
dignity
and
respect
which
you
blessed
us.
