Description
To honor the memory of fallen Police Officer Jose Fontanez, Mayor Wu, BPD Commissioner Michael Cox, fellow police officers, and family members gather in front of Station House E-13 in Jamaica Plain to dedicate a street sign in his name.
A
C
It
was
so
amazing
it
was
beautiful
and
it
was
an
honor
to
see
how
many
people
love
our
brother
Fountain
is
those
that
those
that
were
proactive
police
officers
and
were
bringing
prisoners
into
the
station
they
know,
and
they
can
testify
to
how
to
how
much
of
a
team
player
he
was.
Some
booking
officers
are
pretty
lazy.
He
wasn't
that
guy.
C
C
Dear
heavenly
father,
we
come
before
you
under
the
name
that
is
above
all
names
to
give
you
honor
to
give
you
glory,
but
also
heavenly
father.
Just
like
your
word
teaches
us
to
love
one
another,
which
is
the
second
greatest
commandment.
Also.
Your
word
teaches
us
that
if
we
owe
anything
to
pay
whatever
is
due
and
amongst
that
list
that
you've
detailed
in
your
word
is
the
is
the
word
honor.
If
we
owe
honor,
then
we
must
pay
it
father.
C
C
Every
single
one
that's
battling
through
the
situation.
It
hurt
every
single
one
of
us,
father
and
I
pray
that
in
the
name
of
Jesus.
Also,
if
there's
one
of
his
descendants,
that
one
day
aspires
to
be
a
police
officer,
I
pray
that
one
day
that
that
descendant
would
be
able
to
wear
the
badge
that
that
are
that
our
brother
wore
I
also
pray
heavenly
father
that
in
the
name
of
Jesus,
you
bless
every
single
person
that
took
part
in
in
making
this
event
happen.
Father
bless
them
bless.
C
B
Thank
you
Josh
before
I
turn
this
over
to
a
few
speakers.
I
just
want
to
say
a
couple
words
myself:
I
had
the
pleasure
of
working
with
Teddy
Rivera
Jose's
brother
in
District
Four
a
long
time
ago
and
I
also
worked
with
Jose
Alton
Wright
to
the
gentlemen.
We
all
had
workers
and
anyone
who
said
he
he
was
an
active
guy
made.
A
lot
of
arrests
really
served
the
city
with
all
that
Jose
is
saying.
B
Jose
I
didn't
work
here
with
Jose.
He
passed
away
prior
to
my
arrival
here
at
District
13.,
but
I
could
see
how
he
touched
everyone
that
worked
here.
It
was
still
at
Works
yet,
and
his
memory
will
live
on
for
a
long
time
here.
At
District,
13.
I'd
like
to
introduce
Mia
will
who
have
a
few
words
to
speak
for
the
family.
Here.
D
Commemorations
in
the
form
of
street
signs
are
something
that
we
don't
take
lightly
in
the
city
of
Boston.
It
is
a
marker
that
will
be
here
forever
and
you
can
see
even
a
year
ago,
I
was
in
that
building
right
next
door.
That
is
where
our
campaign
office
was
for
the
whole
year
and
that
is
come
and
gone
as
this
neighborhood
grows
as
the
city
changes
as
new
residents
join.
F
You
can't
use
good
afternoon
family
and
friends
of
our
office
of
fox
dancing.
Thank
you
for
being
here
for
this
great
honor
that
we're
bestowing
today
well,
I
was
not
here
in
2020,
I
was
saddened
to
hear
about
officer
fontanez's
passing
away.
F
at
the
age
of
24.
He
served
with
honor
and
dedication
for
over
29
years
he
was
assigned
to
e13
where
we're
open
in
1996..
It
was
just
he
served
most
of
his
career
working
with
the
men
and
women
of
the
station
and
served
with
the
citizens
of
Jamaica
Plain
in
the
very
early
months
of
2020.
When
the
pandemic
was
the
hard
hit
hardest
around
the
world,
and
it
looks
certainly
hopefully
here
in
Boston
members
of
the
Boston
police
before
I
continue
to
provide
service
to
the
community
in
which
we
serve
in
the
pandemic.
F
The
streets
were
filled
with
folks
who
were
suffering
open,
but
yet
the
men
and
women
stepped
up
every
day.
To
answer
the
calls.
Numerous
offices
were
diagnosed
for
covert
19.
and,
although
officer
confidence
was
one
of
our
members
who
attracted
the
pandemic,
I
mean
the
Copa
19..
He
fought
violently
with
the
disease
and
he
passed
away
on
April
14th,
20,
20.
F
More
recently,
covid-19
has
been
deemed
a
line
of
duty
death
by
both
the
federal
government
and
here
locally,
an
application
was
submitted
to
enforcement.
Memorial
fitting
of
Officer
fonsi's
name
was
added
to
the
Law
Enforcement
Memorial
in
Washington
DC
early
this
year.
F
His
name
is
scheduled
to
be
added
to
the
Massachusetts
law
enforcement
memorial
later
this
month,
I've
spoken
to
a
few
people
about
office
supply
list.
In
the
words
used
to
describe
him,
they
were
genuine
kind
and
selflessness,
that's
the
kind
of
Officer
he
was
and
that's
the
kind
of
Officer
we
want
all
our
offices
to
be
here.
Jose
was
low
well
for
being
a
police
officer,
and
he
was
extremely
good
at
it.
He
made
a
tremendous
impact
on
the
community
while
also
trying
to
make
Boston
safe
to
the
family.
F
It's
my
honor
privilege
to
count
Jose
amongst
the
ranks
of
the
Boston
Police
Department's
finest.
It
made
a
difference
in
many
lives
that
the
people
who
live
here,
including
those
of
his
brother
and
sister,
in
law
enforcement
as
it
as
the
Hispanic
heritage.
He
wanted
to
continue
this
or
wraps
up.
I
should
say
this
week.
Please
know
that
the
officers
will
continue
to
serve
in
this
fine
tradition,
laying
down
by
Officer
artists
and
will
continue
their
honor.
This
membraneous
memory.
We
will
not
forget
his
service
or
sacrifice,
and
his
legacy
will
continue.
B
G
G
G
Today
is
a
momentous
day
as
we
recognize
the
contributions,
the
influence
and
achievements,
Life
and
Legacy
of
Jose
fontenence
from
September
15
to
October
15th,
his
Hispanic
Heritage
Month.
It
recognizes
the
contributions
and
the
influences
Hispanic
Americans
their
history,
culture
and
achievements.
There's
no
better
way.
I
could
imagine
closing
off
this
month
than
celebrating
someone
who
gave
his
life
to
protect
not
only
his
family,
his
friend
but
the
city
he
loved
Boston
was
not
only
a
co-worker.
He
was
a
friend
to
many
of
us.
G
G
It
is
that
helping
spirit
that
motivated
us
at
Diego
Boston
to
create
a
scholarship
in
Jose's
name.
Two
years
ago,
this
scholarship
and
his
prospective
college
students
a
monetary
contribution
to
help
ease
some
of
that
financial
burden
for
their
first
journey
in
college.
To
date,
Diego
has
contributed
over
ten
thousand
dollars
in
scholarships.
G
It
will
continue
to
donate
Scholarships
in
Jose's
name
would
typically
award
these
scholarships
during
an
art
gallery
and
again
on
behalf
of
your
goal,
we'd
like
to
invite
the
farm
to
that
family
to
Be
Our
Guest
at
our
upcoming
Gala
and
personally
present
the
scholarships
of
this
year's
recipients.
As
we
reflect
back
on
Jose's
life,
the
person
he
was
and
the
choices
he
made
I
think
of
the
quote
of
Paulo
Santana.
The
most
valuable
possession
you
can
own
is
an
open
heart.
The
most
powerful
weapon
you
can
be
is
an
instrument
of
peace.
G
E
E
Fortunately,
for
me,
the
relationship
with
Jose
fonten
has
changed
because
we
actually
became
teammates
and
friends.
That's
a
time
when
I
got
to
really
appreciate
how
brand
of
a
person
he
was
ever
present.
Smile
is
stamina.
Is
time
demeanor
allowed
him
to
Foster
many
relationships
throughout
this
city.
He
brought
that
disposition
to
the
Boston
Police
Department
into
the
communities
that
he
served,
including
this
community.
E
If
I'm
being
honest
every
time,
I
drive
before
today
as
I
drove
past
this
station
I
would
always
look
over
to
see
if
I
can
catch
a
glimpse
of
my
buddy
reality
was
set
in,
but
at
least
now
I
know
that
I
could
drive
by
and
I
can
salute
a
man
who
was
revered
by
many,
but
a
person
I'm
proud
to
say,
was
my
friend.
Thank
you.
B
E
A
A
B
We
have
a
memorial,
hallway
and
I
want
to
thank
Carlos
Carlos
Martinez.
He
put
it
together.
It
took
him
about
a
year
and
a
half
I'd
like
to
invite
everyone
in
to
take
a
peek
at
it
in
honest
Jose,
also
honestly
Chrome
and
John
Lynch,
who
was
tying
the
line
of
duty
at
the
same
location
back
in
1944
and
five
other
officers
that
died
in
the
line
of
duty
in
District
13.
