The Boston Public Improvement Commission (PIC) is the owner and regulator of the City's rights of way. The PIC plays an integral role in the City's development and permitting process. From the restaurant that wants to add a seasonal cafe on the public sidewalk, to the developer who wants to construct an underground parking garage for a new housing development, or the homeowner who wants to add an architectural feature to a house that juts into the public space, each must seek approval from the PIC to have its private venture occupy public space, either permanently or on a licensed basis.

private
way.

of
the
way
on
the
site
and,
as
you
can
see
from
the
second
plan,
which
is
the
fire
access
plan,
we
propose
to
develop
a
multifamily
development
on
that
site
right.

abandon
it
so
that
we
can
put
the
development
there
and
the
Commission
brought
up
the
issue
of
fire
access
and
we've
worked,
obviously
for
a
long
time
since
August
and
trying
to
reach
resolve
those
issues
through
the
Boston
Fire
Department
at
ISD,
we've
had
our
engineers
draft
a
plan
which
has
been
reviewed
by
mr.
donga
at
the
boss,
a
fire
department
at
ISD,
and
he's
indicated
that
at
this
point
he's
he
would
feel
comfortable
and
wouldn't
want
to
hold
the
petition
up.

close
to
having
a
full
access
plan.
That's
compliant
the
only
issue
being
some
curbing
that
the
trucks
may
have
to
drive
over
now,
which
we
would
be
resolving
in
order
to
move
through
the
full
code
review
once
our
plans
leave
the
BR
a
which
will
be
shortly
and
go
to
ISD
for
that
full
fire
code
review.
So
I'd
ask
if
the
Commission
at
this
point
is
comfortable
with
taking
action
on
the
petition
to
abandon
northern
parking,
and
we
answer
any
questions
that
you
may
have
