From YouTube: Snow Preparations Press Conference - 2/8/17
Description
Mayor Walsh joins city officials in the Eagle Room at Boston City Hall to discuss the City's snow preparations ahead of tomorrow's expected snowfall.
A
John
figure,
while
we
get
set
up
there,
I
want
a
lot.
Thank
everyone
for
coming.
In
today,
the
National
Weather
Service
is
called
a
winter
storm
warning,
in
effect
for
the
Boston
area
and
most
of
Massachusetts
from
six
a.m.
tomorrow
morning,
until
midnight
tomorrow
night
we're
going
to
have
heavy
snow
and
right
now
the
numbers
have
gone
up.
A
Even
in
the
last
two
hours
to
accumulation
is
anywhere
from
12
to
18
inches
of
snow
in
the
Boston
area,
temperature
is
going
to
be
very
cold,
falling
to
17
degrees
by
5pm
and
nine
degrees
later
in
the
night,
when
get
wind
gusts
up
to
40
miles
per
hour,
with
a
windchill
factor
of
minus
seven.
So
one
of
the
first
notifications
we're
asking
people
to
keep
an
eye
on
as
your
pipes.
A
If
you
have
pipes
that
freeze
and
generally
freeze,
you
might
want
to
try
and
make
sure
you
cover
those
pipes,
so
they
don't
freeze
and
cause
damage.
I'm
going
to
have
Sheila
Dillon
talking
a
few
minutes
about
the
homeless
situation
and
what
we're
doing
our
priority
is
to
get
all
of
the
homeless
people
that
live
on
our
streets
into
shelter.
Tomorrow,
but
she
will
go
into
a
little
bit
later.
A
We
want
people
to
stay
indoors
as
much
as
possible
dress
in
layers
when
you're
outside
we're
not
encouraging
people
to
take
cars
were
in
encouraging
that
it's
going
to
be
hazardous
travel.
So
when
you
stay
off
the
roads,
the
templates
are
going
to
be
very
cold.
So
with
the
cold
weather,
we
don't
want
a
repeat
of
this
morning
with
the
with
the
the
icing
snow.
What
we're
going
to
call
snow
emergency
in
the
city
of
Boston
is
going
to
start
tomorrow
morning
at
ten
a.m.
A
people
can
park
the
cars
and
designated
discounted
parking
garages
two
hours
beforehand,
and
if
you
need
any
more
information
on
that
people
can
go
to
the
website.
Boston
gov,
/
winter
there
will
be
a
trash
and
recycle
will
be
moved
up
one
hour
tomorrow.
So
you
pick
and
trash
up
tomorrow
in
before
the
storm
or
during
the
storm.
There
is
no
space
savers.
Tomorrow
morning
a
space
saver
Elsie
will
take
effect
after
it's.
No.
A
So
if
you
put
your
space
saver
out
there
in
the
morning
and
as
our
trash
trucks
go
out
there
and
see
them
they're
going
in
the
trash,
so
we're
asking
you
to
please
be
considerate.
In
that
case,
we're
also
asking
people
do
not
shovel
snow
on
the
street
and
do
not
shovel
do
not
plow
snow
into
the
street
code.
Enforcement
will
be
out
tomorrow
and
if
we
see
people
falling
into
the
street,
you'll
be
written
up
on
tickets
and
as
people
know,
the
fines
have
gone
up
this
year.
A
So
we'll
be
working
on
to
make
sure
that
we
keep
the
streets
clear.
All
Boston,
Public
Schools
will
be
closed
tomorrow
we
are
closing
them,
so
we
can
do
the
preparation
around
the
schools
to
make
sure
that
we
can
clear
the
sidewalks
in
the
lot.
The
snow
will
start
sometime
in
the
morning
so
in
the
morning
might
not
look
that
bad
for
the
commute
but
as
the
day
goes
on,
it's
going
to
get
it's
going
to
get
worse,
so
we
don't
want
any
any
hazardous
travel
for
our
kids.
A
A
A
We're
going
to
be
removing,
as
I
said,
Public
Works
is
going
to
be
doing
curb
to
curb
plowing
on
major
arteries,
we're
going
to
do
the
best
we
can
on
side
arteries.
We
will
after
the
snowstorm
tomorrow
we
will
go
back
if
we
need
to
remove
the
snow
off
the
streets.
It
is
if
we
get
18
to
snow
will
be
doing
small
stone
removal
over
friday
and
saturday,
and
we
have
snow
farm
set
up
so
we'll
be
able
to
take
the
storm
street.
That's
going
to
be
going
to
make
that
cause.
A
We
move
forward
on
Mass
Ave,
we
have
what's
called
flex
posts
for
the
bike
lanes
will
be
removing
those
tomorrow,
so
we
can
go
corrupt,
a
curb.
So
if
you
have
a
fear
of
bicycles,
you
used
to
traveling
on
Mac
staff.
Those
flex
posts
will
be
gone
tomorrow,
so
we're
asking
to
to
ride
with
caution
on
it
should
be
very
careful
riding
and
stuff.
So
we
can
get
the
bike
lanes
plowed
out
as
well.
We
want
to
be
able
to
do
that.
A
We're
asking
for
help
from
the
public,
with
looking
out
for
your
elderly
neighbors,
disabled
neighbors
neighbors,
who
may
not
be
able
to
help
himself
if
you
could
give
them
a
hand,
make
sure
that
their
sidewalk
is
plowed.
Make
sure
that
this
there's
a
plowed
in
case
of
an
emergency
just
so
they
feel
safe.
We're
asking
to
keep
an
eye
on
them.
We
will
be
doing
a
robo
call
to
all
the
senior
citizens
in
the
city
at
some
point
today.
We're
also
asking
people
to
clear,
clean
the
fire.
A
Hydrants
Commission
FN,
we'll
have
the
Fire
Department
out
there
late
tomorrow
night
and
into
Friday
shoveling
out
fire
hydrants,
but
it
would
be
in
the
case
of
on
the
street.
Would
love
you
to
shoveling?
You
sure
you
give
a
five
and
twenty
house
we're
asking
you
to
shovel
it
out
for
us.
We're
also
asking
you
to
make
sure
that
you
shovel
out
catch
basins
so
that
so
that,
when
the
snow
starts
to
melt
will
be
able
to
get
the
snow
off
the
street.
A
If
you
live
on
the
street,
where
you
have
a
crosswalk
or
your
house
is
on
the
corner
of
a
crosswalk
which
might
happen
too
big
we're
asking
it
also
shovel
out
the
crosswalk
so
that
we
can
make
sure
that
we
stay
full
compliant
with
handicap
accessibility,
but
also
for
its
safe
in
the
streets.
We're
also
asking
one
other
thing:
we
haven't
done
this
in
the
past.
If
you
have
a
handicapped
spot
in
front
of
your
house,
we're
asking
you
if
you
could
help,
don't
throw
snow
in
the
handicapped
spot
actually
using
any
caps.
A
Are
you
can
help
us
shovel
up
the
indie
caps
blunt?
So
we
can
keep
up
some
handicap
spots
on
the
street
for
folks
that
might
need
them
on
the
street.
We
have
visiting
nurses
and
we
have
other
other
staff
that
might
need
to
get
into
different
neighborhoods
that
then
I
want
to
park
in
this.
If
you
have
those
spots
to
pronounce,
you
could
shovel
them.
I'd.
Be
grateful
for
that.
A
If
you
haven't
used
the
app
free
loan
app,
you
can
also
get
the
same
accessibility
by
loading,
the
311
app
on
your
smartphone,
and
you
can
report
an
incident
or
report
something
to
the
city
if
you'd
like
on
that
any
non-emergencies,
if
you
have
any
emergencies
or
questions
that
could
be
an
emergency
dial,
911,
our
police,
fire
and
EMS
will
all
be
staffed
up
and
ready
to
ready
to
respond
to
any
situations
that
might
be
out
there.
It's
important
that
on
is
you
just
keep
911,
though,
so
for
not
for
emergency.
A
Only
and
if
you
have
a
non-emergency
question,
call
311
before
I
actually
able
to
come
up.
The
only
other
thing
I
will
say:
oh
I
know
if
I
said
this,
if
I
did
I
just
want
to
say
one
more
time
in
case
they
did
make
sure.
Before
you
start,
you
can't
shovel
out
the
vent
pipe,
the
exhaust
pipe
in
the
back
of
that
car
and
also
shovel
out
when
you're
shoveling,
your
home's
out,
make
sure
you
shovel
out
the
events
around
your
home.
A
B
B
I
can
get
to
a
warm
place,
and
so
that
is
starting
tonight
and
that
will
go
through
the
weekend
because
we
anticipate
very,
very
cold
weather
the
mbta
north
station
south
station
and
back
bay
will
not
shut
down
because
we
want
to
make
sure
that
any
homeless
people
that
are
better
there
are
also
going
to
be
safe
and
out
of
the
cold.
So
we
thank
the
state
for
that.
B
311,
the
mayor
mentioned
it.
If
you
see
a
homeless
person
and
they
they
are
safe,
but
they
would
like
to
come
in
and
get
services
get
to
a
shelter
call
311
and
we
will
dispatch
a
van
to
them.
If
you
see
any
homeless
person,
it
looks
like
they
are
very
cold.
Disoriented
aren't
properly
dressed,
call
911
immediately
because
it
doesn't
take
long
for
someone
to
get
hypothermia.
So
we're
really
asking
the
public
to
be
our
eyes
and
ears.
B
C
A
Actually
might
be,
I'm
not
sure
if
we
got
an
18
inch
storm
in
2015.
I
think
we
get
some,
I'm
not
sure
with
the
high
today.
This
actually
might
be
the
biggest
one
of
my
administration
has
encountered
this.
We
get
18
inches
plus
of
snow,
so
certainly
we're
preparing
for
it.
We
had
a
meeting
in
here
earlier
today.
A
A
I
mean
people
are
going
to
feel
that
this
is
going
to
come
down
one
to
two
inches
every
every
hour,
so
we're
going
to
be
out
there
plowing,
so
people
might
feel
like
your
streets,
not
plowed,
where
I
can
try
and
stay
off
the
streets.
If
you
can
and
then
we
will
get
to
every
street
in
the
city,
but
it
will
go
to
plow
it,
and
then
it's
going
to
cover
it
again.
So
it's
going
to
look
like
it's
not
covered,
but
it
isn't.
Plowed
it'll
be
plowed.
Are.
A
Little
bit
I
mean,
depending
on
the
type
of
snow,
we
get
we're,
anticipating
it
some
heavy
snow
for
a
while
there
tomorrow,
so
we
want
to
be
able
to
just
get
it,
get
it
dies
down
to
the
ground
as
we
can
down
to
the
black
top
and
down
to
the
sidewalk,
so
that
we
can
get
the
proper
salting
out
there.
As
I
said
earlier
today
that
you
know
this
morning's
icing
caught
everyone
off
guard,
it's
the
first
time
in
probably
a
decade,
something
like
that's
happened
in
the
city
and
in
the
state.
A
So
we
want
to
lamb.
We
want
to
make
sure
that
once
we
get
it
down
to
the
be
able
and
the
streets
that
we
have
plenty
of
salt
on
this,
so
people
can
pass
safely.
We
also
want
to
make
sure
when
you're
shoveling
would
like
get
a
shovel.
You
know
especially
can
48
inches
across
to
make
sure
our
streets,
it's
truly
handicapped,
accessible.
Some
people
put
a
little
pass
on
the
sidewalk,
but
not
everyone
can
get
around
in
that.
So
it
asks
you
to
put
a
little
more
work
into
it
and.
A
On
the
daily
show,
first,
you
know
was
a
interesting
experience.
You
know
was
quite
the
day
after
day
and
Patriots
Super,
Bowl
rally
and
then
a
one
on
the
daily
show
and
tape
it
last
night,
and
you
know
it
just
shows
you
that
the
serious
nature
of
what
what's
happening
in
the
country
that
you
know
the
Daily
Show
would
would
talk
about
the
cover
the
issue
of
immigration
and
refugee.
So
on
it
was
interesting.
You
know.
Trevor
knows
it
seems
like
a
very
nice
guy.
A
B
A
A
That
you
know
we
take
the
actions
of
having
safety
workers
very
serious
here
in
the
city
of
Boston.
Clearly,
after
that,
after
that
incident,
we
we
passed
legislation
with
the
City
Council.
You
know
a
sad
situation,
but
as
far
as
that,
getting
into
the
indictment
itself
is
asked.
District
attorney
called
me
for
the
album
on
that.
B
A
The
ability
now
to
be
able
to
look
at
people's
safety
records
and
be
able
to
not
grant
them
permits
and
then
through
that
process,
and
we
didn't
actually
have
that
opportunity
before
and
I
think
it's
important
that
we
were
able
to
do
a
little
bit
of
due
diligence
on
some
of
these
contractors.
And
you
know
some
of
these
folks
might
have
a
good
record
in
the
city,
but
have
a
bad
OSHA
violation
record
of
elsewhere.
So
it
gives
us
the
opportunity
to
do
a
little
more
vetting.
A
I
mean
the
difficulty
about
this
in
the
beginning
was
that
it
was
private
construction
in
a
private
residence.
Obviously
that
went
through
publicly
and
so
what
the
council
gave
the
approval
to
different
departments
and
agencies
in
the
city
of
a
little
more
on
sorry,
I,
don't
know
if
I
know
how
much
I
don't
think
enough.
Commissioner
Christopher
here
so
I'm,
not
sure
I
can
get
that
I.
Get
that
interview.
