The words "lift every voice and sing" echoed throughout downtown Boston today as elected officials and members of the public gathered together to celebrate a historic milestone for black history in America. Boston Mayor Kim Janey joins Suffolk County District Attorney Rachel Rollins, State Representative Russell Holmes, and other community leaders in a flag raising that commemorates the first time in history that Juneteenth will be celebrated as a federal holiday.
