From YouTube: John Hancock Marathon Banner Unveiling 2018
Description
March 19, 2018 - Over 500 banners will line city streets in anticipation of the upcoming Boston Marathon. Mayor Walsh and past winners of the race celebrate the unveiling of the first of these banners outside Marathon Sports on Boylston Street in Copley Square.
A
Good
morning
and
welcome,
my
name
is
Jim
Gallagher
I'm
executive
vice
president
with
John
Hancock
and
I'm
very
proud
to
join
my
colleagues
from
John
Hancock
this
morning
and,
of
course,
all
of
you
to
unveil
the
first
set
of
over
500
banners
that
will
line
the
great
streets
of
Boston
through
race
day
on
April
16
with
us.
Today.
Our
four-time
boston
marathon
champion
bill
rogers
bell.
A
Both
returned
to
run
Boston
this
year
after
being
top
American
finishers
at
previous
races.
Now,
during
our
33
years
as
principal
sponsor,
we
have
seen
the
legacy
of
the
marathon
grow
stronger
each
Patriots
day,
and
we
want
to
thank
the
Boston
Athletic
Association
for
organizing
and
sustaining
this
event.
Together,
we
are
committed
to
ensuring
the
success
of
the
race
for
many
years
to
come
and
I
want
to
acknowledge
with
us.
This
morning
the
CEO
of
the
Boston
Athletic
Association
Jack
Fleming
Jack.
A
The
Boston
Marathon
is
built
on
the
determination
and
strengths
of
hundreds
of
thousands
of
people,
all
runners,
spectators,
volunteers,
media
race
and
city
officials.
It's
built
on
the
dedication
of
Boston
and
seven
other
cities
and
towns
to
welcome
and
host
30,000
runners
in
Boston
each
Patriots
day.
It's
built
on
the
premise
that
when
you
cross
the
finish
line,
you
become
part
of
our
family
and
part
of
a
legacy.
A
That's
really
a
hundred
and
twenty
two
years
in
the
making,
and
it's
built
on
the
belief
and
more
than
the
belief,
the
learned
experience
that
no
one
runs
Boston
alone.
The
journey
belongs
to
all
of
us.
Our
marathon
theme
this
year,
together
forward,
exemplifies
our
collect
our
collective
experiences
in
organizing
supporting
and
participating
in
an
event
that
challenged
us
to
be
the
best
because
it
demands
us
to
be
at
our
best,
not
only
on
Marathon
Monday,
but
in
every
moment,
leading
up
to
race
day.
As
we
raise
the
banners.
A
It
is
important
to
remember
that
those
who
were
profoundly
affected
by
the
race
day,
tragedy,
25,
excuse
me
five
years
ago,
are
still
in
our
hearts
and
minds,
as
they
will
always
be.
The
resilience
and
resolution
we
have
witnessed
within
the
survivor
community
has
truly
been
an
in
spiration
to
all
of
us.
We
will
never
forget
through
this
community.
A
We
continue
to
learn
that
as
a
city,
a
state,
a
country
and
indeed
the
world,
we
are
better
when
we
stand
together,
no
matter
what
our
goals,
hopes
and
dreams,
we
need
to
depend
on
each
other
in
times
of
hardship
and
in
times
of
victory.
So
now
I
have
the
privilege
of
introducing
our
mayor
during
his
recent
second
term
inauguration
speech,
mayor
Walsh,
remarked
from
around
the
world
and
across
our
nation
people
look
to
Boston
for
hope
for
opportunity
for
a
chance
to
build
a
better
life.
A
B
Thank
you
very
much.
Jim
and
I
want
to
thank
gu
and
John
Hancock
and
the
Boston
Athletic
Association
for
doing
an
incredible
job
in
our
city.
Thank
you
both
of
you
and
all
the
folks
that
are
here,
including
marathon
sports,
it's
great
to
be
with
Bill
Rogers
and
all
the
other
great
runners
here.
I
look
forward
to
this
event
every
single
year,
because
I
get
a
chance
to
see
Bill
Rogers,
remember
watching
him
on
TV
as
he
as
he
ran
his
marathons
and
won
his
marathons.
B
I
also
want
to
just
welcome
everyone
who,
in
four
weeks
from
today,
will
be
cheering
in
this
very
spot
for
all
the
great
athletes
running
down
Boylston
Street
for
the
marathon
by
unveiling
these
Bienes.
We
officially
kick
off
the
marathon
season
2018
over
the
next
month,
we're
going
to
be
getting
really
busy
in
the
city
and
the
BAA
and
John
Hancock
on
Boylston
Street,
we're
gonna
be
welcoming
top
athletes
from
all
over
the
world
that
are
gonna
be
coming
here.
Locals
local
run
is
gearing
up
to
chase
their
dreams.
B
I
know
they're
doing
their
final
runs
now
in
the
next
couple
of
weeks.
I
see
one
in
front
of
me,
I
think
Jennifer
and
dr.
from
the
city
of
Boston
we're
going
to
transform
the
city
into
the
biggest
sports
stage
in
the
world
for
the
people
of
Boston.
The
marathon
is
a
lot
more
than
a
race.
It's
one
of
our
oldest
and
proudest
traditions.
It's
a
story
that
26.2
miles
long
and
122
years
old.
It's
been
part
of
our
lives
for
as
long
as
any
of
us
can
remember
here
in
our
city.
B
As
Jim
said
five
years
ago
in
2013
the
marathon
took
on
new
meaning
that
year,
President
Obama
came
to
Boston
to
help
us
heal.
He
said,
even
when
our
hearts
aches,
we
summons
the
strength
that
maybe
we
didn't
even
know
we
had.
We
carry
on.
We
finished
the
race.
Joe
Biden
reminded
us
that
year
that
we
own
the
finish
line
since
then
the
Boston
Marathon
has
become
a
movement.
It's
come
to
represent
the
strength
of
the
human
spirit
in
a
new
and
profound
way.
B
It's
a
testament
of
resilience
of
our
city,
and
nothing
makes
this
more
clear
that
we
have
as
one
Boston
day.
One
Boston
day
is
a
citywide
call
to
service
every
April
15th.
It's
a
way
we
honor
those
we
lost
and
support
those
who
we
still
are
on
the
road
to
recovery.
The
response
has
been
incredible
and
again,
I
want
to
give
a
special
shout
out,
in
this
case
to
John
Hancock,
to
Jim
and
his
team
and
to
the
BAA
for
their
response
and
their
involvement
in
helping
move
our
city
forward
in
every
neighborhood.
B
B
City
of
Boston
employees
will
continue
the
tradition
of
volunteering
during
the
week
leading
up
to
April
15th
John
Hancock,
along
with
Saint
Francis
House,
are
teaming
up
once
again
on
a
sneaker
drive
for
people
in
need.
They
collected
four
thousand
pairs
of
shoes
last
year
and
the
hoping
to
break
that
record
this
year.
B
I'm
asking
everyone
who
loves
this
city
to
join
us
in
the
one
Boston
day
movement
go
to
one
Boston
day
dog
to
sign
up
for
a
service
project
or
plan
your
own
and
help
us
spread
the
word
by
using
hashtag
one
Boston
day.
It's
almost
time
to
unveil
that
she
has
BN
is
before
I
go
I
want
to
thank
everyone
who
makes
the
marathon
and
one
Boston
day
such
a
huge
success
to
all
the
athletes.
We
want
to
say,
welcome
and
good
luck
to
John
Hancock
on
the
Boston
Athletic
Association.
