August 24th marks the 31st Anniversary of the Independence of Ukraine, as well as the six-month anniversary of the war between Russia and Ukraine. Join in as the Ukrainian flag is raised over City Hall Plaza, marking a solidarity between Bostonians and the people of Ukraine who have added so much to our city through their culture, work ethic, and spirit over the past 150 years.

momentous
day,
but
we
are
here
to
commemorate
both
the
ukrainian
community
and
its
contributions
to
boston
and
also
to
remember
all
of
those
who
have
sacrificed
and
fought
for
freedom,
and
especially
at
this
moment
in
ukraine,
on
the
front
line.
So
I
would
ask
for
a
moment
of

students
at

us

ukrainian

really

might
know
that
it's
been
a
little
bit
of
time
since
we
have
had
many
flag
raisings
here
at
city
hall.
We
in
fact
were
on
a
pause
for
the
better
part
of
a
year,
and
so
this
is
one
of
the
first
flag
raisings
that
we
are
doing
as
as
the
city
council
has
led
the
way
in
revamping
the
program
and
there
could
be
no
more
meaningful
community
to
be
celebrating
with
and
to
be
standing
tall
with.

Boston
ukrainian
community
has
a
long,
proud
history
here
and,
as
the
past
several
months
have
shown
an
equally
proud
and
passionate
present
and
support
and
relationships
of
all
of
our
communities.
Here,
following
the
invasion
in
february,
boston's
ukrainian
community
sprang
into
action
raising
millions
of
dollars
in
aid
hosting
events
and
protests
working
with
leaders
at
every
level
of
government
to
ensure
that
we
would
all
stand
united
and
residents
across
boston
from
all
backgrounds
and
communities
have
come
together
to
stand
in
solidarity
with
ukraine
and
the
cause
of
freedom.

honor
of
that
commitment,
the
city
of
boston
is
issuing
this
official
proclamation
for
ukrainian
independence
day,
and
we
are
proud
to
ensure
that
the
city
council
also
is
is
presenting
a
proclamation
so
that
we
stand
united
across
city
government.
We
celebrate
this
day
in
boston
to
demonstrate
that
we
are
united
in
our
struggle
to
preserve
our
freedoms.
Today
and
every
day,
our
hearts
are
with
all
those
here
in
boston
across
the
country
and
around
the
world,
and
especially
in
ukraine,
who
are
continuing
to
fight
the
forces
of
oppression
wherever
they
appear.

Our
shores
have
welcomed
so
many
people.
My
grandparents
came
here
in

late
1800s
early
1900s
from
ireland.
They
were
scared,
they
were
alone
and
they
left
so
much
back
home.
So
it's
so
important
that
I
always
remember
that
those
of
you
who
have
made
boston
your
home.
We
love
that
you're
here
you're
part
of
our
communities,
our
neighborhoods
you're.

ukrainian

19
1991
continuing
the
thousand-year
tradition
of
state
development
in
ukraine,
proceeding
from
the
right
of
a
nation
to
self-determination,
in
accordance
with
the
charter
of
the
united
nations
and
other
international
legal
documents
and
implementing
the
declaration
of
state
sovereignty
of
ukraine.
The
vivo
narada
of
the
ukrainian
soviet
socialist
republic
solemnly
declares
independence
of
ukraine
in
creation
of
the
independent
ukrainian
state
ukraine.

quick
comment
that
back
in
1991,
they
were
talking
about
a
mortal
danger
and
they're
again
facing
immortal
danger
and
a
friend
of
mine
just
recently
fired
me.
Some
information
that
in
ukraine
they
just
did
a
poll,
and
I
think
it
was
like
91
or
93
of
ukrainians
were
committed
to
victory
and
we're
not
going
to
settle
for
any
negotiated
peace
and
that
I
think.

Yesterday,
the
polish
president,
mr
judah,
went
to
kiev
for
the
first
time
to
meet
with
the
president
of
the
ukraine
and
to
show
our
solidarity.
Poland
welcome
the
people
like
brothers
and
sisters,
and
we
send
a
lot
of
equipment.
Military
equipment
now,
together
with
usa
and
england,
were
the
main
cause
was
supporting
products.
So
we
pray
in
boston.
With
we
collected
some
stuff.

containers
to
poland
and
we're
still
collecting
goods
like
right
now
in
our
parish
hall,
who
have
backpack
of
love
for
children,
for
the
children
who
are
studying
in
poland,
they
go
to
the
polish
school
learning
the
history
and
finding
common.
