From YouTube: Prayer Service for Peace
Description
Mayor Walsh, Boston Police Commissioner William Evans, and other elected officials, community leaders, and religious figures came together in front of Boston City Hall to pray for the victims of Charlottesville. Among the prayers were calls for unity, love, and tolerance within the communities of Boston and across the nation .
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." - Martin Luther King Jr.
A
I
want
to
thank
everyone
for
coming
out
today.
He
had
a
City
Hall
plaza
for
a
prayer
service
for
peace.
The
last
thing
that
I'm
gonna
start
doing
now
is
stop
preaching,
because
I
got
a
few
preachers
behind
me.
That'll
make
me
look
real
bad,
but
I
want
to
I
want
to
just
acknowledge
a
few
folks
first
and
then
I'm
gonna
turn
the
microphone
over
I
want
to
thank
the
City
Council
members
that
are
here
today:
city
councilor,
bill
in
hand,
Thank
You
Billy
for
being
here
with
us
city,
councilor,
Anitra,
sabe
Jorge.
A
Have
these
men
and
women
are
always
here
for
us
today
is
a
day
about
praying
for
the
city
of
Boston,
but
also
praying
for
the
victims
of
violence,
not
just
what
happened.
Last
Saturday
but
victims
of
violence
in
general,
and
it's
important
for
us
to
remember
that
Saturday
in
our
city,
we
have
unity
days,
going
on
all
over
the
city
of
Boston
Boston,
Housing
Authority
as
unity
days
in
different
neighborhoods
in
the
city
of
Austin,
of
which
I
will
be
out
I'll.
A
Be
there
because
they're
hard-working
people
that
are
trying
to
raise
their
family
trying
to
make
sure
that
kids
go
on
to
college
and
have
opportunities
to
become
maybe
mayor,
the
city
of
Boston
or
the
great
things
happen
our
city.
We
also
have
a
demonstration
or
a
rally
or
a
walk
coming
whatever
I,
don't
know
what
is
going
to
be
called
a
free
speech
rally
and
I
ask
everyone
who
comes
to
Boston
Common
on
Saturday.
You
can
have
your
free
speech
all
day
long,
but
let's
not
speak
about
hate.
A
Speaking
here
is
the
man
who
who
I
don't
know
how
to
put
it
other
than
he
walks
the
walk
when
there's
something
that
happens
in
the
neighborhood
and
I'm
their
pastor.
Dickerson
is
there
when
there's
something
good
happening
in
the
neighborhood
and
there's
a
cookout
at
his
church
or
in
his
neighborhood
pastor.
Dickerson.
Is
there
when
somebody
needs
to
let
helping
hand
when
a
family
needs
some
place
to
bury
their
son
because
they
don't
have
a
church
to
go
to
pastor
Dickerson?
B
Thank
You
mayor
Thank,
You,
Commissioner,
Evans
and
everyone-
that's
here:
Reverend,
Arlene
hall,
bishop
borders
and
everyone.
That's
here
behind
me
all
the
faith,
traditions
that
are
represented
but-
and
we
ask
you
to
everyone
to
bow
your
heads,
keep
your
eyes
open,
we're
outside,
amen,
father.
We
thank
you
for
allowing
us
to
come
on
City,
Hall,
plaza
and
as
Jeremiah
the
Book
of
Jeremiah,
the
Prophet
says,
seek
the
peace
of
the
city
for
wearing
your
carry
for
it.
It
prospers.
So
will
you
Father?
We
pray
for
the
prosperity
of
the
city
of
Boston.
B
We
pray
for
the
peace
of
the
city
of
Boston.
We
pray
for
this
gathering
today
that
your
Lord
bind
us
together
with
cords
of
love.
That
cannot
be
broken.
Let
it
be
a
message
Lord
that
will
resonate
throughout
law
this
Commonwealth
and
throughout
this
nation.
We
pray
that
you
rebuke
the
Lord,
the
demonic
forces
of
racism
or
bigotry
of
hatred
of
violence.
B
B
This
gathering
a
peace,
this
Gavin
of
righteousness,
this
gathering
of
faith,
this
gathering
of
the
anointing
this
gathering
of
power
father.
We
thank
you
for
your
power.
The
Holy
Spirit
power
upon
us
even
now
bless
us
Lord
with
respect
to
all
faith
traditions
in
Jesus
name,
thank
God,
amen
and
amen.
Let's
clap
for
victory.
C
My
name
is
John
borders,
I'm,
the
pastor
of
Morning
Star
Baptist,
Church
I'd,
like
to
remind
all
those
that
will
pray
following
me
to
keep
your
prayers
to
brief
about
three
minutes,
I
I
wrote
out
my
prayer,
I
hope
it's
all
right.
That
I
read
it
as
we
look
to
the
Lord
God
of
heaven
and
earth,
as
the
psalmist
said,
make
glad
the
soul
of
your
servant,
but
to
you,
O,
Lord,
I,
lift
up
my
soul
for
you.
C
C
God
of
love
and
grace,
you
did
not
create
a
master
race,
just
a
human
race.
We
are
all
broken
and
suffer
from
a
fallen
nature.
We
were
made
from
dust
and
unto
dust
we
will
return
as
Christians
and
Muslims
Jews
and
people
of
other
religious
and
spiritual
experiences
as
black
people
and
white
people.
Asians
and
Native
Americans
help
us
to
do
justly
to
love
mercy
and
to
walk
humbly
with
God,
with
all
my
heart
and
soul.
I
pray
that
you
give
President
Donald
Trump.
C
C
Abraham
Lincoln
said
with
malice
toward
none
with
charity.
For
all,
let
us
strive
on
to
finish
the
work
we
are
in
to
do
all
which
may
achieve
and
cherish
a
just
and
lasting
peace
among
ourselves
and
with
all
nations
in
the
name
of
Jesus
and
in
the
name
of
the
one
true
and
living
God,
who
is
most
holy
and
merciful,
amen.
D
My
name
is
Reverend
Laura
Everett
I
serve
as
the
executive
director
of
the
Massachusetts
Council
of
Churches.
Our
prayers
today
aren't
magic
spells,
but
please
to
God
and
words
to
ourselves.
May
these
words
move
and
change
us
before
the
Almighty.
We
pause
to
pray
for
Charlottesville
and
for
healing
God.
D
The
wounds
of
Charlottesville
are
deep
and
the
roads
of
that
city
and
every
city
are
covered
in
scar,
tissue
of
neighborhoods
divided
the
roads
of
that
city
in
every
city
have
blood
deep
in
the
soil,
Charlottesville
saw
our
nation
saw
white
nationalism
and
hate
on
parade
and
God.
We
cannot
deny
any
longer.
We
need
healing
for
the
original
racist
sins
of
our
nation
for
those
who
would
equivocate
or
deny
what
we
saw.
D
We
saw
hate
on
parade
God.
We
entrust
to
you
the
city
of
Charlottesville,
heal,
Charlottesville,
o
our
Lord,
our
Great
Physician.
We
know
that
there
are
many
who
need
healing,
and
so
we
entrust
you
every
black
child
who
snuck
a
look
out
a
window
to
see
those
who
would
do
her
harm.
We
entrust
to
you
every
civil
rights
elder
whose
heads
and
hands
still
bear
the
scars
of
protests
decades
ago,
who
grieve
what
is
walking
down
this
road
again
and
God.
We
entrust
you
every
Holocaust
survivor
at
the
images
of
Nazis
walking
down
American
streets.
D
We
named
for
you,
O
God,
each
of
the
19
hurt
and
injured
and
hid
on
4th
Street
as
a
car
was
used
as
a
weapon.
We
give
you
those
whose
names
are
none
known
who
they
are
the
scars
of
protest.
We
name
for
you,
the
UVA
students
who
stood
between
terrorists
and
the
rotunda's
Jefferson
statue.
We
name
for
you,
weary
students
who
just
want
to
go
to
class
free
from
intimidation
and
fear.
We
name
before
you
O
Lord,
the
journalists
who
risk
their
lives
to
document
and
report
in
the
service
of
justice
and
of
truth.
D
We
name
before
you
O
God,
all
who
are
wounded,
all
who
are
heavy
laden
and
we
named
the
volunteers,
the
medics,
the
officers
and
all
who
serve
their
fellow
humans
and
the
work
of
justice
and
healing
o
God
our
beginning.
In
our
end,
we
trust
you
to
welcome
the
dead
into
that
place
where
there
is
no
pain
or
suffering.
No
racism
or
hatred
receive
O
Lord.
The
Charlottesville
martyrs
have
their
hair
32
lieutenant
H
J
Cullen
48
trooper
Berkey
mm
Bates
forty
for
their
families
for
their
community.
For
all
who
love
and
miss
them
God.
D
D
Many
of
us
have
grown
accustomed
to
the
sickness
of
white
supremacy,
so
our
God's
search
us
help
us
to
see
the
ways
that
we
have
denied,
the
goodness
in
ourselves
and
the
goodness
and
others
teach
us
to
notice
where
we
ourselves
are
complicit
in
systems
of
violence
and
oppression,
hear
us
and
heal
us
O
Lord
God
this
road
to
freedom.
As
long,
we
need
trustworthy
companions
for
the
journey
to
freedom.

I

Today,
Avinu
Shaboom
I
am
all-merciful
God,
your
prophet
taught
let
justice
roll
down
like
waters
and
righteousness
like
a
mighty
stream,
a
mice's
words
captured
by
Rabbi
Abraham,
Joshua
Heschel,
who
marched
arm
and
arm
with
Reverend
dr.
Martin,
Luther
King
emphasized
that
a
mrs.
image
is
of
a
mighty
stream
expressive
of
vehemence
of
never-ending
surging,
a
fighting
movement,
not
a
scale
that
is
a
norm,
but
a
fighting
challenge.
E
A
restless
drive
dear
God.
We
are
mindful
that
the
force
of
justice
is
something
that
must
be
pursued
with
vehemence
and
vigilance
that,
as
our
city
is
mindful
of
the
vandalizing
of
the
Holocaust
memorial
sacred
ground
for
our
city
on
its
Freedom
Trail
that
we
need
now
more
than
ever,
to
come
together
with
that
vehemence
and
that
vigilance
that,
as
survivors
of
the
Holocaust
witness
a
young
black
man
beaten
in
charlottesville
by
neo-nazi
thugs
and
see
Nazis
marching
through
our
land.
E
E
F
F
We
just
come
before
you
right
now
with
just
our
privilege
and
honor
to
be
able
to
acknowledge
your
presence,
Lord
right
at
the
precipice
of
our
city,
Lord,
the
psalmist
said
in
Psalm,
17
David
said
that
he
prays
to
you
because
you
bend
down
and
you
listen
to
him
and
so
Lord
we're
not
simply
here
what
religious
rhetoric,
though
we
don't
think
this
is
just
a
good
thing.
God.
We
know
that
you're
bending
down
and
listening
that
your
ears
are
attentive
to
our
cry.
F
So
we
cry
out
to
you
Lord,
for
the
lift
of
all
of
our
leaders
who
are
participating
in
this
unifying
effort.
Everyone
in
the
governor's
office
in
the
mayor's
office
God
everyone
in
the
state
and
local
police
guard
all
of
our
faith
leaders,
our
community
organizers,
God
and
all
of
our
leaders
that
exist
in
every
one
of
our
it's
Lord
who
have
no
name
and
have
no
podium
and
have
no
microphone.
I
lift
up
all
of
these
leaders
to
you
right
now,
milord
I,
pray
for
your
wisdom.
F
Your
word
says
that
we
can
come
before
you
and
ask
you
for
wisdom,
and
you
will
give
it
to
us
freely
without
finding
faults.
Oh
Lord
give
us
wisdom,
Lord
with
all
of
our
strategies
and
all
of
our
planning
Lord.
You
be
the
difference
Lord
for
the
things
that
we
haven't
thought
of
the
mistakes
that
we
will
inevitably
make.
We
pray
that
your
presence
Lord
will
make
up
the
difference
Lord
for
the
things
that
we
won't
even
be
mindful
of
and
Lord.
F
We
pray
that,
as
we
go
through
these
next
few
days,
that
we
will
be
able
to
embrace
the
word
that
you
gave
to
Joshua
that
we
will
not
be
terrified
that
we
will
not
be
discouraged
because
we
know
that
you
will
be
with
us
wherever
we
go
and
Lord
most
of
all,
I
pray
for
synergy
and
unity
God.
Well,
all
of
these
multiple
efforts
going
on
I
pray
for
unity
and
synergy
Lord
in
our
city,
Jesus.
F
You
pray
that
for
us
two
thousand
years
ago
you
prayed
that
we
would
be
one
like
you
and
your
father
one.
So
we
invoke
that
reality
right
now,
God
that
when
our
posturing
that
this
isn't
about
grabbing
attention-
but
this
is
about
it's
coming
together,
Lord
to
love
and
to
serve
this
city
with
everything
that
we
have,
and
so
we
lay
our
city
before
you.
We
lay
our
leaders
before
you
in
Jesus
name,
Amen,
amen,
come
on,
y'all
can't
get
a
load
of
here,
clap.
G
G
All
I
want
to
share
with
you
today
a
prayer
that
is
made
by
Abraham
in
the
holy
quran,
where
he
asks
god,
Robbi,
John,
rather
Bela
than
Amin
and
hello
home
in
a
thumb
alot
where
Abraham
invokes
God
and
he
says,
o
God,
grant
these
lands
safety
and
security
and
grant
the
dwellers
of
these
provision
and
wellness.
That
is
the
prophetic
message.
It
is
a
message
of
wellness.
Safety
and
security
for
all.
G
Abraham
knew
that
the
dwellers
of
those
lands
and
these
lands,
our
lands,
everyone's
lands,
would
be
beautiful,
would
be
a
myriad
of
colors
and
shapes
and
sizes,
and
the
prophetic
invocation
has
always
been
God,
bring
that
safety
and
security
and
tranquility
upon
all
see
the
unfortunate
reality
that's
playing
out
today
is
that
there
are
people
who
think
that
for
me
to
be
safe,
you
must
be
eliminated.
That
I
have
to
see
the
demise
of
an
other
so
that
I
may
be
safe
and
secure.
That
is
a
toxic,
demonic
ideology,
because
our
prophets.
G
Our
prophets
and
our
messengers
have
always
taught
a
spirit
of
unity
and
oneness
as
the
pastor
referenced
earlier,
that
we
are
all
from
the
same
exact
dirt
and
we
will
all
return
to
the
same
exact
ER.
There
is
no
superior
race,
there
is
no
master
people.
We
are
all
one
humble
servants
in
the
sight
of
God,
and
so
we
ask
God
that
he
humbles
our
hearts
and
that
he
brings
guidance
into
our
souls
that
he
alters
the
conditions
of
the
hearts
of
those
who
are
misguided.
G
We
asked
God
to
bring
his
safety
and
security
and
tranquility
upon
our
cities.
We
asked
him
to
guide
the
hearts
of
our
elected
officials
and
our
leaders
to
bring
wellness
and
beauty
and
mercy
and
compassion
into
their
hearts.
I
asked
God
to
shift
the
hearts
of
those
that
are
misguided
in
our
lands.
I
ask
him
to
make
all
of
our
lands
safe
and
secure
and
a
sanctuary
for
all
I
mean
a
Lebanon
I
mean.
Thank
you.
So
much.
H
H
The
Cardinal
is
unable
to
be
here
today,
but
once
his
firm
resolve
and
resolve
with
the
Archdiocese
to
be
instruments
of
peace
and
justice
and
love
made
known
in
this
prayer
service
in
joining
Mia
Walsh
and
governor
Baker
people
of
goodwill,
faints,
all
religions,
backgrounds
in
confronting
the
hatred
and
the
bigotry
that
has
so
ugly
arisen
again
in
our
midst.
Cardinal
shawn
has
called
this
in
a
statement.
A
time
of
testing.
H
His
words
as
a
Catholic
bishop
I
welcome
the
opportunity
to
stand
with
other
religious
leaders
of
the
land
in
opposition
to
the
voices
of
fragmentation
in
hatred
as
the
Archbishop
of
Boston.
It
is
my
responsibility
to
call
the
Catholic
community,
which
I
serve
to
remember
the
basic
truths
of
faith
and
reason
which
are
so
central
at
this
moment:
the
truth
that
our
rights
in
our
duties
to
each
other
derive
from
God
the
truth
that
we
can
successfully
oppose
hatred
and
bigotry
by
civility
in
charity.
H
These
truths
can
bind
us
together
across
racial,
religious
and
ethnic
communities.
They
can
help
us
celebrate
our
pluralism
as
a
rich
treasure
which
strengthens
our
land
today,
when
our
unity
is
tested,
when
our
basic
truths
of
faith
and
reason
are
violated
as
people
of
faith
and
as
citizens,
we
must
uphold
our
ideas
and
ideals,
my
prayers
that
we
can
rise
to
this
challenge.
My
belief
is
that
we
are
surely
capable
of
doing
so,
and
in
that
spirit
we
pray
now
for
healing
a
time
of
testing
gold
was
tested
in
the
furnace,
but
it
was
proven.
H
H
Let
me
sow
love
where
there
is
injury,
pardon
where
there
is
doubt
faith
where
there
is
despair,
hope
where
there
is
darkness
light,
where
there
is
sadness,
joy,
Oh,
divine
master,
grant
that
I
might
not
so
much
seek
to
be
consoled
as
to
console
to
be
understood
as
to
understand
to
be
loved
as
to
love
for
it
is
in
giving
that
we
receive.
It
is
in
pardoning
that
we
are
pardoned
and
it
is
in
dying
that
we
are
born
to
eternal
life,
and
this
we
pray,
amen.
I
Next
to
you,
as
we
look
to
the
Lord
in
this
prayer
of
reconciliation
and
closing
this
moment
of
agreement
father,
we
come
to
you
in
the
name
of
Jesus,
the
name
that
is
above
every
name.
We
thank
you
for
this
time
that
you
beg
us.
You
said
call
upon
me
and
I
will
answer
you
and
show
you
great
and
mighty
things
you
said:
ask
and
it
shall
be
given.
Knock
and
doors
will
be
open,
seek
and
we
will
find
we
come
today.
We
are
knocking
we're
asking.
I
We
are
seeking
that
there
will
be
relationship
among
clergies
that
there
will
be
unity,
that
there
will
be
relationship
across
denominational
line,
any
God,
that
there
will
be
connectivity
between
houses
of
worship,
and
we
asked
you
today,
but
as
we
stand
on
this
platform
of
faith,
O
God,
that
you
will
release
your
piece
over
the
city
of
Boston.
Are
we
invoke
you
for
God
of
peace?
I
You
said
to
Clara
Tina
honey
shall
be
established
with
me
peace
over
Boston.
We
seek
peace
over
Massachusetts,
we
speak.
Peace
in
the
cities
are
with
peace
over
Boston
Common.
Even
right
now
we
ask
that
your
angels
will
go
before
us.
We
are
win-wins
them,
but
you're
in
first
day
you're
in
Friday,
yes,
you're
in
Saturday
thank
God,
let
your
peace
reign
in
my
city.
Let
the
peace
of
God
that
surpasses
all
understanding
guard
our
hearts
in
Christ
Jesus.
Let
our
hearts
be
guarded
by
peace.
I
I
Fear
we
shift
my
sphere
Oh
God.
You
have
not
given
us
a
spirit
of
fear,
power
and
soundness
of
mind,
so
we
take
Dominion
authority.
Oh
and
we
said
in
this
place
where
we
are
standing.
The
mayor
and
his
team
will
experience
a
peace
of
God,
the
superintendent
of
police
and
his
team
will
experience
a
peace
of
God.
The
residents
of
Boston
will
experience
the
peace
of
God.
I
We
speak
today
in
faith,
believing
that
you
have
heard
our
cry,
but
you're
answering
our
prayers
even
now
that
indeed
there
is
not
Jew
nor
Gentile
bond
nor
free.
We
are
all
your
people,
and
you
said
if
your
people
that
are
called
by
your
name
shall
humble
themselves
and
pray
and
seek
your
face
and
turn
from
our
wicked
ways.
You
said
you
will
hear
from
heaven:
you
will
forgive
our
sins
and
you
will
heal
our
land.
All
that
you
will
hear
today.
You
will
forgive
our
sins
and
the
land
of
Boston
will
be
here.
I
Who
will
come
alive?
We
will
not
be
hiding.
We
will
not
be
fearful
because
your
angels
are
in
camping
around
us
and
our
trust
and
our
confidence
is
in
Jehovah
God,
the
one
who
is
supreme,
the
one
that
is
suffering
the
one.
That
knows
all
things
so
go
before
us
now
and
prosper
this
week.
Let
this
week
be
a
testimony
that
indeed
prayer
changes,
things
let
there
be
peace
in
every
home,
peace
in
every
school
peace
in
every
city,
peace
in
every
house
of
worship,
peace
in
every
office.
I
We
speak
your
Shalom,
your
welfare
for
as
jeremiah
declare
in
jeremiah
29:7.
When
we
pray
for
the
peace
of
the
city.
When
the
city
have
peace,
we
will
also
find
peace.
So
we
embrace
your
peace
right
now
and
we
say
kingdom
of
God
hallelujah
come
through
us.
We
say
will
of
God
be
done
in
us.
Let
your
kingdom
break
in
there
every
negative
words
that
have
been
spoken
from
the
white
out
to
this
moment
from
the
media.
To
this
moment
it
will
not
come
to
us,
it
will
not
be
fulfilled.
I
So
we
thank
you,
we
thank
you
and
without
fair.
Without
doubt,
we
cry
out
to
you
and
we
thank
you
for
hearing
our
prayers
in
the
name
of
the
Lord
Jesus.
We
pray
now
come
on
and
put
those
eggs
together
and
just
clap
them
as
if
you
believe
we
have
victory,
pluck
them
as
if
you
believe
we
have
victory.
I
know
we
are
not
inside
the
walls
of
the
church,
but
we
are
the
war,
so
you
can
open
your
mouth
and
say:
Amen
hallelujah,
god
bless
you.
A
This
is
the
conclusion
of
the
prayer
service
now
I'd
like
to
well
invite
any
of
you
to
something
we're
doing
special
in
the
city
of
Boston.
Today
we're
breaking
ground
on
our
first
public,
inclusive,
Park,
Martin's
Park
after
the
memory
of
Martin
Richards.
So
please
join
us
over
the
children
museum
right
after
this.
