B
A
As
mayor
of
boston,
I
would
like
to
extend
a
warm
welcome
back
to
the
boston
marathon
for
its
125th
race.
The
boston
marathon
is
a
hallmark
of
our
city
growing
up
in
boston.
It
was
a
family
tradition
to
travel
to
boylston
street
and
be
among
the
people
cheering
on
the
runners
who
hailed
from
all
over
the
world
after
having
to
cancel
this
long
time,
boston
tradition
due
to
covet
19
in
april
of
2020
and
then
postpone
april
2021.
A
This
year,
20
000
runners
from
all
50
states
and
87
countries
will
race
from
hoppington
to
boston,
with
a
rolling
start
times
to
limit
crowding
thanks
to
technology.
There
will
be
multiple
ways
for
spectators
to
watch
the
race
remotely
at
home
here
in
boston
and
all
over
the
world.
I
am
so
proud
of
the
work
of
the
boston,
athletic
association,
john
hancock,
the
city
of
boston
and
the
seven
other
local
host
cities
for
bringing
marathon
athletes,
volunteers
and
supporters
safely,
back
together,
virtually
and
in
person.
A
A
Available
boston
fire
department

also
be
active
with
walking
patrols
along
the
course
to
respond
to
potential
incidents.
Bfd

areas
with
specialized
units
for
tech,
rescue,
hazmat,
deacon
and
additional
equipment
will
be
at
street
strategic
locations
on
both
sides
of
the
course
boston.
Emergency
medical
services
will
have
enhanced
medical
coverage,
including
additional
personnel
in
the
field,
dispatch
and
special
operations.
A
They
will
deploy
medical
units
along
the
route
as
in
previous
years
hosting
the
marathon
will
require
street
closures
and
parking
restrictions
along
the
course
route
and
throughout
the
city
of
boston,
detailed
street
closures
and
parking
information
are
available
online
at

I
highly
encourage

and

monday.
A
Please
remember
to
wear
your
mask
on
public
transit
and
whenever
indoors
and

along
with
the
massachusetts
emergency
management

to
monitor
the

be
staffed
by
our
city
departments,
state
agencies
and
our
non-profit
partners
to
coordinate
the
city's
operational
plan.
A
Additionally,

so
far
has
an
ideal
forecast.

medical
emergency
dispatch
center.
Where
ambulance
to
hospital
communication
throughout
the
metropolitan
boston
area
will
be
coordinated.
A
A
A
If
you
are
not
fully
vaccinated,
you
should
avoid
large
social
gatherings
like
the
marathon
altogether
for
more
information
about
the
125th
boston
marathon.
Please
visit
boston.gov
backslash
marathon
and
I
wish
all
of
the
runners
the
best
of
luck.
Now
we
will
hear
from
boston,
police,
superintendent,
gerard
bailey,
who
is
the
bureau
chief
of
field
services,
followed
by
mbta
transit,
police,
chief,
kenneth,
green
and
then
closing
remarks
from
boston,
athletic
association
president
and
ceo
thomas
s,
groke.
Thank
you
so
much.
C
Thank
you
mayor
good
afternoon,
thank
you
for
for
being
here
to
share
important
information
to
our
to
your
viewers
about
the
upcoming
boston
marathon,
working
with
our
federal
state,
local
private
security
partners.
We
have
come
up
with
a
comprehensive
safety
plan
to
ensure
a
secure
event
for
all
runners
spectators
alike.
C
A
friendly
family
environment,
persons
coming
into
work
on
monday,
should
plan
on
taking
arriving
early
and
encourage
everyone
into
the
kenmore
square
back
bay
areas
to
use
public
transportation
to
to
assist
with
securing
the
marathon
route.
All
traffic
leading
into
the
marathon
route,
east
and
west
of
mass
avenue
will
be
closed
at
8
a.m.
The
road
closures
will
remain
in
effect
until
5
30
pm
buses,
taking
runners
out
to
hopkinton,
will
leave
the
boston
common
area
at
5.
45,
the
area
along
child
street
will
be
closed.
C
The
boston
police
department
will
have
a
large
police
presence
along
the
marathon
course
and
surrounding
areas
with
a
multi-layered
approach.
The
bpd,
as
always,
will
maintain
normal
staffing
levels
in
the
city's
neighborhoods.
We
will
set
up
security
checkpoints
at
all
streets
leading
to
the
marathon
route
from
kenmore
square,
to
the
finish
line.
C
C
We
are
requesting
spectators,
adhere
to
the
request
that
certain
items
not
be
brought
into
the
marathon
viewing
areas
such
as
backpacks,
shoulder
bags
suitcases
and
coolers
the
reason
being
that
persons
carrying
these
items
will
have
to
go
through
a
security
screening
process
that
will
cause
delays
at
certain
times.
We
will
close
off
areas
along
the
marathon
route
due
to
overcrowding.
C
We
will
limit
access
to
these
areas
for
safety
reasons.
This
is
most
likely
to
happen
in
the
boyle
street
area.
We
suggest
you
take
alternative
routes,
we
remind
everyone.
If
you
see
something
say
something
if
you
can
seek
out
one
of
our
offices
or
call
911.,
we
anticipate
a
great
day
for
the
runners,
families
and
all
who
come
out
to
support
those
running
the
boston
marathon.
B
B
B
There
will
also
be
many
behind
the
scene,
mergers
that
we
will
employ
that
are
not
as
obvious
to
the
right
in
public.
Currently,
it's
probably
already
been
stated
a
few
times.
There
is
no
intelligence,
credible
or
otherwise
to
suggest
that
the
mbta
or
and
or
the
marathon
itself
is
a
target.
However,
we'll
continue
to
be
in
constant
communication
with
our
law
enforcement
partners
throughout
the,
as
always
we'd
like
to
ask
the
public
assistance.
B
B
Copley
station
will
be
closed
on
that
day.
Sea
lion
stations,
kent
street
kent,
street,
st
mary's
and
south
street
are
all
all
closed
between
the
hours
of
of
10
a.m
to
6
6
p.m.
Again,
please,
if
you
see
something
say
something
with
your
help:
we
all
can
have
a
safe
and
enjoyable
marathon
monday.
Thank
you.
D
Good
afternoon
everybody
I'm
tom
grill
from
the
boston
athletic
association,
and
I
want
to
thank
the
city
of
boston
for
their
partnership
and
leadership
as
ever
in
helping
to
bring
the
boston
marathon
back
for
the
125th
running
this
year.
It's
been
more
than
900
days
since
we
last
ran
together
in
person
here
and
while
the
26.2
mile
course
and
the
finish
at
boylston
street
that
we
all
know
those
remain
the
same.
Pretty
much
everything
else
is
different.
D
We
at
the
ba
have
worked
closely
with
a
coven
19
medical
and
event
operations,
advisory
group
comprised
of
medical,
epidemiological
public
health,
public
safety
officials
for
months
and
months
and
months
to
try
to
achieve
what
mayor
janey
was
talking
about
the
safest
possible
experience
for
all
who
will
be
around
now.
We've
reduced
our
field
size
by
something
approaching
40
percent.
D
Now
we
we
also
hope
that
the
return
of
the
marathon
will
bring
a
measure
of
economic
assistance
and
recovery
relief
to
merchants
here
around
boston.
I
can
tell
you
that,
as
of
this
afternoon,
the
vibe
and
the
back
bay
is
starting
to
grow,
and
that
objective,
I
think,
will
be
met.
People
are
feeling
good
if
the
boston
marathon
is
anything
it's
something
that
brings
people
together
and
they're
starting
to
collect
and
come
together
right
now.
This
year
we
have
more
than
2
000
athletes
running
and
raising
critical
funds
for
non-profits.
D
Whether
in
most
are
boston-based
and
all
were
affected
by
the
pandemic
this
year,
also
for
the
first
time
we'll
have
a
series
of
para
athletic
competitive
prize
money,
divisions
for
athletes
with
upper
body
impairments,
lower
body
impairments,
visual
impairment,
as
well
as
the
pushroom
wheelchair
athletes
who
have
competed
for
prize
money
in
the
past
now,
the
marathon
for
us
and
for
everybody
here
is
more
than
a
race,
and
we
know
what
it
means
to
everybody
who
lives
around
here.
To
have
the
marathon
go
well
so
to
the
city
of
boston.
D
A
Thank
you
now,
we'll
take
just
a
couple
of
questions.
D
A
You
know
this
is
huge,
as
we
know
having
to
cancel
the
2020
and
postpone
the
2021
races
in
april
has
had
a
huge
impact
economically
in
this
particular
area.
A
Covert
19
in
general
has
had
a
huge
impact
on
the
city
of
boston
and
all
across
our
nation
and
so
being
able
to
bring
runners
back
to
do
it
safely
to
work
with
baa
and
all
of
our
city
agencies
here
to
to
bring
this
race
back
is
a
huge
deal
to
restaurants
and
business
owners
in
the
area
here
in
boston
and
all
across
the
marathon
route
throughout
the
region,
and
it
is
a
great
day
a
day
to
celebrate
in
the
city
of
boston
and
looking
forward
to
a
great
race
and
certainly
want
to
congratulate
again
all
of
our
athletes.
A
Well,
the
baa,
as
well
as
the
city
of
boston,
have
taken
several
steps
to
ensure
safety,
as
I
mentioned
in
my
remarks,
because
of
crowds
whenever
in
crowds,
even
if
outdoors
people
should
wear
masks,
I
certainly
encourage
that
that
is
what
I
will
be
doing
when
I'm
there
at
the
race
is
wearing
my
mask.
Whenever
I'm
in
a
crowded
area
of
people-
and
we
should
always
practice
safety
as
best
we
can-
and
we
know
that
mass
can
help
slow
the
spread.
