From YouTube: Boston Harborfest Kick-Off 2021
Description
July 4th festivities in the city are officially underway, as Mayor Janey, elected officials, and members of the U.S. Armed Forces kick-off the 2021 Harborfest in Downtown Crossing.
A
Hopefully,
the
rain
holds
off
here
the
want
to
thank
the
215th
regiment
pipe
and
drum
give
him
a
big
round
of
applause.
Doing
a
great
job
here
in
downtown.
B
D
C
C
C
C
B
B
B
I
can
say
that
I've
been
probably
to
each
one
myself
and
they
have
been
a
marvelous
tradition
in
the
city
of
boston
and
I'm
so
glad
that
we're
able
to
celebrate
the
birth
of
our
nation
here
today,
as
we
kick
off
a
four
day
weekend
for
harvard
fest
activities,
there
are
so
many
people
that
have
been
involved
in
making
today
possible.
The
city
of
boston,
of
course,
has
always
been
a
long-standing
support
right
from
the
beginning,
there's
always
been
an
earmark
in
the
budget
for
harborfest,
and
that
continues.
B
We
have
gotten
through
this
last
year
with
the
leadership
from
the
state
and
the
city,
and
we
could
not
have
been
more
fortunate
to
be
from
the
city
of
boston
and
the
state
of
massachusetts
to
have
the
kind
of
leadership
that
we've
had
over
this
last
year.
We
have
so
many
people
to
thank
for
for
their
courageous
activities
and
taking
care
of
all
of
us
in
each
and
every
way
that
they
were
able
to,
and
I
can't
be
more
grateful
to
say
thank
you
to
all
of
them.
B
We've
been
busy
down
here
in
boston
the
last
week.
It's
been
hot,
as
you
know,
but
the
flags
went
up,
the
bunting
went
up
and
we
we
are
so
thankful
to
our
ambassadors.
You'll
see
them
running
around
in
the
orange
shirts,
they've
been
keeping
the
district
clean,
welcoming
people
and,
as
we
continue
moving
forward
with
restrictions
having
been
lifted,
we
see
more
and
more
people
downtown
every
day.
Hundreds
of
businesses
are
open
and
we're
just
thrilled
that
we're
able
to
confidently
move
forward.
B
I'd
like
to
say
that
while
it's
been
a
difficult
year,
I
think
it
has
brought
all
of
us
more
close
together
than
we
have
ever
been
before,
and
I
couldn't
be
more
proud
to
say
that
I
love
working
in
the
city
of
boston
and
living
in
the
state
of
massachusetts,
and
I
can't
think
of
a
better
place
to
be.
So.
Thank
you
for
being
here
and
now
I'd
like
to
introduce
the
mayor
of
the
city
of
boston.
B
And
while
we
take
a
moment
to
bring
the
mayor
on
stage,
I
want
to
make
sure
that
everybody
knows
that
the
freedom
trail
is
part
of
harborfest's
celebration
and
each
and
every
one
of
the
sites
on
the
freedom
trail
will
be
open
for
all
of
you
to
visit.
So
make
sure
you
do
that
over
the
next
four
days.
So,
thank
you
very,
very
much
for
being
here
and
without
further
ado.
Let
me
introduce
the
first
female
mayor
of
boston,
kim
janey.
E
Hello,
everyone.
I
will
keep
my
remarks
brief
in
case
the
sky
decides
to
open
up
on
us.
I
want
to
thank
you
rosemary
for
that
lovely
introduction.
I'm
so
grateful
for
all
that
you
do
as
president
and
ceo
of
the
downtown
bid
making
sure
that
our
downtown
community
is
is
vibrant.
Thank
you
for
your
work.
I
also
want
to
recognize
president
and
ceo
of
the
greater
boston
convention
and
visitors
bureau,
martha
sheridan.
You
will
hear
from
her
later
also
dusty
rhodes.
E
We
I
am
joined
by
my
good
friend
in
service
state
representative
erin,
michael
witz,
who
is
the
chair
of
the
wazing
means
committee
at
the
state
house.
I
thank
you
for
your
leadership
and
your
partnership.
I
believe
we
will
be
joined
by
city
councilor,
ed
flynn,
so
I
want
to
recognize
him
as
well.
This
is
his
district.
E
I
also
want
to
recognize
captain
wesley
hester
and
commander
john
banda
for
your
leadership.
Thank
you.
So
much
I'm
really
proud
to
be
here,
and
I
also
want
to,
in
addition
to
acknowledging
the
downtown
bid,
want
to
recognize
boston
celebrations,
the
freedom
trail
foundation
and
all
that
are
gathered
here
to
celebrate
the
kickoff
of
harborfest.
E
This
is
an
exciting
time
of
year
in
our
city.
Certainly
in
our
country
as
boston
is
the
birthplace
of
democracy.
I
love
to
to
say
that,
and
we
are
a
nation
that
has
a
lot
to
celebrate
right
here
in
boston.
The
city
of
boston
has
so
many
firsts
from
our
first
subway
to
our
first
public
schools
to
our
first
college.
E
There
is
a
lot
to
celebrate
as
we
get
ready
for
fourth
of
july
weekend,
and
certainly
there
will
be
fireworks
and
I'm
just
thinking
back
to
my
childhood
and
and
the
how
exciting
that
was,
and
just
thinking
about
the
last
year
and
a
half
and
how
difficult
this
time
has
been
for
so
many
residents
for
so
many
businesses
for
for
all
of
us,
as
we
have
not
had
the
opportunity
to
come
together
and
to
celebrate,
and
so
I'm
really
grateful
for
the
work
that
my
team
has
done.
E
Working
with
community
partners
to
ensure
that
folks
had
vaccine
access
to
the
vaccine
so
that
we
could
come
together
safely
to
celebrate
the
birth
date
of
our
nation
and
continue
the
work
of
moving
our
country
forward,
moving
our
commonwealth
forward
and
moving
our
city
forward
as
it
relates
to
freedom.
I
am
just
blessed
to
be
here
as
the
first
woman
mayor
and
the
first
black
mayor
of
our
city.
E
Boston
is
a
great
world-class
city,
there's
so
much
to
celebrate,
but
there
is
also
a
lot
of
work
to
do
and
I'm
grateful
that
I
get
to
do
it
with
the
amazing
people
that
we
see
here
gathered,
but
also
all
the
residents
of
our
city,
all
the
community
leaders
all
of
the
business
leaders.
So
as
we
get
ready
to
kick
off
this
celebration
of
harborfest,
the
largest
in
our
nation,
I
also
want
to
remind
us
to
be
safe.
When
it
comes
to
fireworks,
you
should
go
someplace
safely
to
watch
the
professionals.
E
Do
the
fireworks
not
engage
in
any
fireworks
in
your
own
neighborhoods,
as
that
is
not
safe,
but
let's
make
sure
that
we
continue
to
do
everything
to
move
our
city
forward
and
to
celebrate
this
important
holiday
weekend
together
and
safely.
So,
thank
you
so
much.
F
Good
morning
afternoon,
I'm
not
sure
what
time
it
is,
we're,
probably
on
the
cusp,
I'm
martha
sheridan,
I'm
the
president
and
ceo
of
the
greater
boston
convention
and
visitors
bureau.
I
want
to
thank
you,
mayor
rosemarie,
thank
you
for
having
us
chairman,
miklowitz
and
and
the
rest
of
our
distinguished
guests.
F
This
is
my
second
harborfest
kickoff
event
and
I
am
thrilled
to
be
here
because
it
really
marks
a
time
when
we
can
truly
say
that
boston
is
back
open
for
business
this.
This
might
be
one
of
our
very
first
public
in-person
events.
Since
the
start
of
the
pandemic,
there
have
been
a
few
small
ones,
but
this
is
a
big
one
and
we
are
so
thrilled
to
have
all
of
you
here
today
and
speaking
of
fireworks.
F
As
the
mayor
mentioned,
we
are
so
delighted
to
acknowledge
that
boston
doesn't
just
have
one
night
of
fireworks
over
the
fourth
of
july.
We
actually
have
two.
I
think
we
might
be
one
of
the
only
cities
in
the
country
that
can
boast
that.
So,
if
your
visitors
to
the
city
are
do
we
have
many
visitors
here.
Welcome.
Thank
you
for
being
here.
You
will
be
delighted
to
find
two
sets
of
fireworks
july
3rd
and
4th
as
part
of
this,
this
celebration
and
our
traditional
4th
of
july
so
welcome
to
everyone.
F
F
Of
course,
people's
united
bank
macy's,
the
freedom
trail
foundation,
sperry
conventures
and
eastern
banks
would
love
to
give
them
all
a
round
of
applause,
because
without
them
this
event
would
not
be
happening
and,
speaking
of
partners,
our
industry
has
been
pretty
badly
hurt
during
the
pandemic,
as
I'm
sure
most
of
you
can
imagine,
as
is
the
case
across
the
country.
F
So
for
us
this
really
marks
the
start
of
tourism
recovery
in
the
city
of
boston,
and
we
have
great
partners
that
have
helped
us
throughout
this
year
to
get
back
on
track,
and
one
of
our
best
partners
is
with
us
today.
As
the
mayor
acknowledged
representative,
aaron
miklowitz,
who
is
here
to
join
us
today,
he's
the
chair
of
the
house,
ways
and
means
committee
and
he's
a
great
friend
of
tourism.
So
I'd
like
to
welcome
chairman
mick
lewis
here
today.
G
Thank
you
martha
and
welcome.
Everyone
welcome
to
downtown
boston.
Welcome
to
my
district,
I'm
very
proud
to
represent
this
area.
You
know
it
is
it's
a
great
day
to
be
celebrating
harborfest
because
of
the
history
of
what
harborfest
means,
how
many
years
we've
had
it,
I'm
a
little
older
than
39
years,
but
so
I've
gotten
the
chance
to
celebrate
every
one
of
them,
and
so
it's
been.
It's
been
part
of
my
upbringing
here
in
the
city,
and
so
this
is
a
great
day.
G
It's
also
great,
because
we're
celebrating
the
fact
that
we
are
getting
back
to
normalcy.
This
is
another
another
step
in
the
right
direction
of
normalcy
and
bringing
people
here
into
the
city
is
something
that
is
very
exciting
and
we're
very
you
know
looking
forward
to
this
weekend.
G
I
want
to
thank
both
rosemary
and
martha
for
their
partnership
over
the
last
year
and
a
half
in
particular
in
trying
to
get
us
through
the
pandemic,
working
with
businesses
working
with
residents,
trying
to
make
sure
that
we
keep
things
together.
It
has
certainly
been
a
challenge,
but
we're
seeing
the
light
at
the
end
of
the
tunnel
and
we're
gonna
get
there
just
gonna
we're
gonna
have
some
more
work
to
do.
G
We
have
some
more
things
that
more
initiatives
to
work
on
to
make
sure
that
we
get
to
the
place
that
we
used
to
be
from
a
from
a
tourism
standpoint
from
a
from
a
cultural
standpoint,
I'm
very
blessed,
I
am
the
chairways
I
mean
so
I
deal
with
things
across
the
entire
commonwealth,
but
I'm
very
more
blessed,
because
I
get
a
district
that
the
freedom
trail
is
a
part
of
that
history
was
made
every
step.
G
I
go
when
I
walk
from
from
the
north
end
over
to
the
state
house,
I'm
stepping
all
over
history-
and
I
get
I
I.
I
love
the
fact
that
we
get
to
share
that
history
with
everyone
that
comes
to
visit
boston,
and
so
it's
it's
a
special
place
to
be
especially
around
this
time
of
the
year
and
I'm
very
excited
for
us
continuing
moving
that
forward.
I
want
to
thank
the
mayor
in
particular
for
all
her
work
for
bringing
us
back.
G
G
All
right,
I'm
sorry
to
put
that
on
you,
but
I
think
you're
gonna
have
to
go
to
every
event
this
weekend
to
keep
the
rain
away,
but
in
all
seriousness,
mayor
janie
has
been
doing
a
great
job
in
trying
to
you
know,
bring
us
back
to
taking
the
reins
and
and
bringing
us
back
to
where
we
where
we
need
to
be
so
it
is
an
exciting
time
to
be
here
in
boston.
I
love
seeing
the
visitors
here.
Let's
keep
it
going.
G
Thank
you
for
having
me
and
let's
you
know,
let's
keep
this
work
going.
Thank
you.
F
So
now
I'd
like
to
acknowledge
the
fact
that
harborfest
wouldn't
happen
without
the
fact
that
we're
celebrating
our
magnificent
harbor
and
we
are
so
fortunate
to
have
great
leadership
on
our
waterways
in
boston
in
the
u.s
coast.
Guard
so
now
gives
me
great
pleasure
to
introduce
captain
wesley
hester
chief
of
response
first
coast
guard
district
and
commander
john
benda
uss
constitution,
76th
commanding.
F
D
Thank
you
mayor
chairman
event,
coordinators
and
distinguished
guests.
I'm
gonna
bring
it
down
just
a
little
bit.
This
is
gonna
sound
a
little
bit
like
a
lecture.
I
promise
it's
not
so
we'll
try
to
make
it
a
little
interactive
and
fun.
D
So
I'm
thankful
for
the
opportunity
to
represent
admiral
tom
allen
of
the
first
coast
guard
district
and
talk
to
you
a
little
bit
about
water
safety
and
recreational
boating
safety,
as
we
head
into
a
season
where
we're
going
to
see
a
lot
of
people
on
the
water,
both
at
the
beach
and
in
their
boats.
In
nearly
every
case,
drownings
and
recreational
boating
accidents
are
preventable.
D
If
you
follow
just
a
few
simple
guidelines
and
I'd
like
to
talk
to
you
about
a
couple
of
those
right
now
before
you
get
in
the
water
when
you
get
on
a
boat,
the
first
thing
you
should
always
do
is
make
sure
you
have
personal
flow
flotation
devices
or
life
jackets
on
board.
With
you
three
out
of
every
four
boating
fatalities,
the
victim
is
not
wearing
a
life
jacket,
so
just
like
the
name
implies,
a
life
jacket
saves
lives.
D
D
You
is
often
the
person
that's
closest
to
you.
So
make
sure
you
have
someone
out
there
who
knows
knows
that
you're
swimming
one
thing
that
we
really
forget
this
time
of
year,
especially
in
new
england,
is
even
though
it's
remarkably
hot
outside
the
water
is
extremely
cold.
So,
even
right
now
the
water
temperature
in
boston,
harbor,
is
59
degrees.
So
it
doesn't
take
very
long
for
you
to
become
incapacitated,
lose
consciousness,
lose
the
ability
to
control
your
limbs
and
potentially
drown
so
always
be
aware
of
the
water
temperature.
D
When
you're
going
into
the
water
try
to
avoid
rip
currents
and
dangerous
sea
conditions,
we
don't
always
see
those,
but
if
the
yellow
flag's
flying
from
the
lifeguard
station,
it's
probably
not
a
good
time
to
get
in
the
water
and
swimming
close
to
shore,
doesn't
always
guarantee
your
safety.
So
again
make
sure
somebody
on
shore
knows
you're
going
swimming,
make
sure
you've
got
a
good
line
of
sight
with
them.
They're
often
your
first
line
of
defense,
if
you
find
yourself
getting
in
trouble.
D
Finally,
the
one
thing
I
would
like
to
encourage
whether
you're
boating
swimming
or
just
in
recreational
activities.
Please
do
it
responsibly.
We're
all
have
a
tendency
to
have
a
beer
or
two,
maybe
do
something.
That's
going
to
impair
our
judgment.
That's
not
the
time
to
take
to
the
water,
so
I'd
encourage
you
to
keep
your
activities
on
land
during
those
times
and
from
a
coast
guard
perspective,
we'll
let
somebody
else
deal
with
the
outcome
of
that.
So
I
want
to
thank
you
very
much
for
your
time
and
attention.
D
F
Great,
thank
you
and
now,
of
course,
the
highlight
of
this
annual
event
is
the
cutting
of
this
magnificent
cake.
So
we
want
to
thank
montelios
for
the
beautiful
cake
and
eastern
bank
for
sponsoring
that
cake
and
I'd
like
to
have
the
band
do
their.
