From YouTube: Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund 9/11 Service Project
Description
Mayor Walsh offers remarks and assists volunteers at the Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund 9/11 Service Project to support active duty servicemembers and veterans, as well as bereaved military families.
During this day of service 500 military care packages were built on the Rose Kennedy Greenway.
A
A
Good
afternoon
everybody
I'll
try
that
one
more
time
good
afternoon,
everyone
there
we
go
I
was
saying.
I
was
remarking
on
the
way
here
earlier
that
we've
never
had
rain
on
this
beautiful
day
to
do
the
care
package
drive
and
then
the
skies
opened
up
and
dumped
all
the
rain
that
was
left
in
North
America
here
in
Boston,
but
as
the
mayor
is
always
wanted
to
do
it
dried
up
very
quickly
and
got
it
all
prepared.
So
I
am.
A
The
president
of
the
board
for
the
masculine
Terry
heroes
fund,
I,
want
to
thank
you
all
for
coming
here
today
want
to
thank
the
mayor,
the
governor
and
all
of
our
families
here,
I'm,
going
to
take
a
moment
to
thank
some
folks
in
a
second
but
I
want
us
all
to
just
take
a
pause
and
a
break.
That's
why
I
asked
their
way
to
gather
around
to
really
reflect
on
what
today
is
about
this
15
years
ago.
A
This
is
our
eighth
year.
Doing
this
particular
project
believe
it
or
not,
and
we
were
created
to
support
families
from
Massachusetts
who
lost
a
loved
one
in
the
service
to
our
country
in
the
military.
Since
the
911
attacks
15
years
ago,
we
have
a
lot
of
our
family
members
who
are
gathered
here
today.
We
also
have
a
lot
of
our
911
families
from
Massachusetts
who
are
gathered
here.
A
So
I
want
to
take
a
moment,
first
of
all,
to
honor
those
who
did
lose
a
loved
one
in
service
and
a
loved
one
on
this
day
and
15
years
ago,
and
if
you're
comfortable
with
then
you
want
to
raise
your
hand,
I
want
to
make
sure
everyone
knows
the
power
of
the
population.
That's
here
with
us
celebrating
and
serving
today.
So
anybody
here
who
lost
a
loved
one,
raise
your
hand
then
I'd
ask
everybody
just
to
take
a
moment
now.
A
You
earlier
before
the
governor
arrived,
we
still
have
more
work
for
you
to
do
when
you're
done
so
when
all
these
terrific
speeches
are
over
with
make
sure
the
folks
stick
around.
We
need
10
to
15
folks
to
go
up
to
the
New.
England
shelter
walk
up
there
and
help
unload
the
truck.
We
also
need
folks.
A
Do
break
down
it
won't
take
very
long,
so
we
just
need
to
stick
around
at
this
time.
I
want
to
do
some
things,
because
we
obviously
can't
do
this
or
anything
else
that
we
do
without
the
great
support
of
so
many
people.
I
want
to
thank
diane,
neal
and
Kathy
king
who,
who
run
the
mass
military
here,
is
fun
without.
A
And
I
do
this
thanks
on
behalf
of
a
fabulous
board
who
has
worked
tirelessly,
we
always
say
we
are
small
but
mighty
and
we
are
an
action-based
bored.
So
I
want
to
thank
the
board
of
directors
for
the
mass
military
here,
it's
fun
to
give
up
their
time
and
their
energy,
but
they're
away
from
their
families,
and
all
that
I
also
want
to
thank
some.
Our
financial
supporters
who.
A
Wouldn't
be
here,
you've
saw
some
of
the
t-shirts
here
today.
We've
got
some
great
support
from
some
institutional
organizations:
john
hancock
financial
Hills
I.
They
go
Highland
Street
foundation
going
tonight,
rally
sound
Bank
of
America
and
we've
got
great
partners
right
here
in
the
Rose
Kennedy
Greenway,
the
United
States
Post
Office.
Let's
hear
for
the
united
states
post
on.
A
There's
also
there
are
these
boards
here
on
gun
point:
that's
this
is
Diane.
If
anyone
could
see
she
always
points
it
when
I'm
not
doing
right,
there's
a
board
with
additional
sponsors
up
here.
If
you
see
them
and
if
you
know
a
corporation
I
can
actually
say
this,
because
I
work
in
the
private
sector
now
to
support
them
go.
These
are
good
companies
who
do
good
things
for
good
people
all
year
round
and
show
it
here.
I
also
want
to
thank
there's
a
one
volunteer
who's
going
to
kill
me.
A
A
You
know
we
can't
do
this
or
any
of
the
other
projects
we
do
without
incredible
partners
at
the
state
and
local
level.
I
want
to
make
sure
that
we
give
them
an
opportunity
to
speak.
We
also
had
the
Attorney
General
Maura
Healey
was
here
earlier
today.
Boston's
Commissioner
for
veteran
services,
Giselle
sterling
is
here
as
well.
I
know.
Eric
Donovan
is
here
on
behalf
of
the
state
at
the
Department
of
Veteran
services,
I
in
folks
from
the
post
office
as
well
again,
Diane's
pointing
something
out
that
I
was
about
to
do.
Would.
A
A
Caldo,
don't
don't
be
mad
at
me
for
mentioning
your
name,
but
thank
you
all
very
much.
I
also
want
to
mention
the
first
lady
of
the
combo
of
massachusetts,
lauren
Baker's
here,
thank
you
for
coming
and
as
the
gentleman
who
company
Lauren
Baker
here
and
all
across
the
Commonwealth.
Our
governor's
here
I
want
to
ask
him
to
come
up
here.
Governor
Baker,
whose
administration
has
been
a
tireless
supporter
of
our
efforts
and
supporting
veterans
families
since
taking
office
and
I
want
to
thank
him
so
much
asking.
C
C
This
work
and
making
sure
that
this
pile
starts
sort
of
as
a
an
agglomeration
of
a
whole
bunch
of
stuff
and
then
somehow,
by
the
end
of
the
day,
is
going
to
end
up
load.
It
packed
ready
to
go
and
off
to
support
many
of
the
men
and
women
who
are
serving
our
country
all
over
the
globe
and
it's
a
wonderful
way
to
spend
the
day
of
service,
and
you
are
all
to
be
commended
for
deciding
to
make
this.
How
you
chose
to
spend
that
day.
The
two
observations
I
want
to
make
number
one.
C
C
Of
my
support
for
the
families
who
suffered
through
those
terrible
tragedies,
today's
there
was
15
years
ago
and
I
think
that's
a
tribute
both
to
the
energy
of
everybody
who
wanted
to
make
sure
that
we
would
never
forget
and
to
the
sense
that
people
have
that.
This
is
something
that
should
be
on
our
calendars
and
be
part
of
who
we
are
and
what
we're
about.
As
a
Commonwealth
year
after
year
after
year,
we
just
came
from
the
Statehouse
up
where
we
had
a
big
ceremony
earlier
today,
and
it
was
you
know.
C
But
they
were
there,
together
with
each
other
and
gaining
a
certain
amount
of
support
and
comfort
from
that,
and
we
were
all
there
with
them,
and
the
crowd
of
many
of
these
events
is
much
bigger
than
it
was
a
few
years
ago
and
I
think
that's
a
great
statement
about
sort
of
who
we
are
and
how
we
want
to
be
there
for
those
who
suffered
such
terrible
tragedies.
And
then
the
final
thing
I
just
want
to
say
is.
C
There's
a
certain
amount
of
tension
in
the
air
these
days,
okay
and
there's
a
certain
amount
of
debate
and
a
lot
of
it
gets
way
beyond
debate
and
into
this
agreement
and
name-calling
and
a
whole
bunch
of
other
things,
and
the
most
powerful
and
wonderful
thing
for
me
about
today
and
about
what's
going
on
today
and
about
the
message
of
today
is
the
unity
peace.
The
fact
that
we
are
you
know
whenever
we
agree
or
disagree
on.
C
We
are
still
one
big
community
and
we
ought
to
find
a
way
to
find
the
language
and
find
the
capacity
to
recognize
and
appreciate
that,
and
you
people
here
today
are
part
of
this.
The
folks
at
the
Red
Cross
are
part
of
that.
The
folks
who
participated
in
the
laying
of
the
wreath
this
morning
over
in
the
Boston
Public
Garden
are
part
of
it,
and
the
hundreds
and
thousands
of
events
that
are
going
on
all
over
the
United
States
of
America
today
are
part
of
it
and
boy
I
sure
wish.
C
We
could
stick
that
in
a
bottle
and
just
every
morning
get
up
and
drink
a
little
of
it
every
day,
because
we
need
to
remember
over
and
over
again
the
one
we
may
disagree
about
one
thing
or
another.
The
thing
that
binds
us
together
is,
we
are
all
part
of
the
great
United
States
of
America,
and
we
should
never
forget
that.
Thank
you
very
much.
A
A
You
know
a
city
in
a
state
they're
all
known
by
the
leaders
that
they
have
and
that
they
choose,
and
we
have
a
great
one
here
in
the
great
city
of
austin,
and
he
has
been
here
supporting
us
every
year
since
he
took
office
and
we
hope
you
will
be
here
many
many
many
years
to
come.
The
mayor
of
the
city
of
austin
very
well.
D
Thank
you
very
much.
Steve
and
I
want
to
start
by
thanking
everyone
at
the
Massachusetts
military
heroes
fund,
the
board
and
everyone
here.
The
work
you
do
is
absolutely
incredible
and
thank
you
so
much
for
everything
you
do.
I
also
want
to
thank
the
known
on
sent
up
a
homeless
vets
for
the
great
work
that
they
do
as
well,
and
you
know
the
governor
said
it
all
all
the
sponsors
on
this
board.
Thank
you
very
much
all
the
people
that
took
time
out
of
your
day
to
be
here.
Thank
you
very
much.
D
All
the
people
at
took
time
out
of
your
day
for
the
last
one
she
is
to
be
here.
Thank
you
very
much
for
the
gold
star
families
in
particular
goal
some
others.
We
want
to
thank
you
for
your
sacrifice
and
also
that
you
know
that
that
we
think
of
you
every
single
day.
This
is
a
very
special
country
when
you
think
about
the
boxes.
Behind
me,
I
was
just
reading
one
of
the
names
on
the
guy
named
Keith.
It's
going
to
go
to
key
Skyclad
Dicky's
last
name
is
in
when
you
think
about
that.
D
What
we're
doing
here
today,
we
appreciate
that
what
men
and
women
who
are
fighting
for
our
country-
and
we
also
appreciate
the
men
and
women
who
fought
for
our
country
and
it's
something
that
we
can
never
forget
15
years
ago
today,
as
we
all
said,
was
a
tough
day.
It
seems
like
yesterday,
literally
yesterday
and
and
what
happened
after
after
the
attack
to
the
World
Trade
Center
at
the
Pentagon.
You
know
we
went
into
Afghanistan
there
night
and
blonde
definitely
remembers.
We
were
blown
in
Afghanistan
and
shortly
thereafter
we
had
troops
on
the
ground.
D
Now
we've
had
troops
on
the
ground
for
a
long
time
now
and
a
lot
of
our
troops
when
they
get
a
care
package
from
this
city
and
from
the
Commonwealth
of
Massachusetts.
It
means
a
great
deal
to
them,
because
I've
talked
to
veterans
who
receive
one
of
these
packages,
and
they
said
sometimes
that's
what
puts
a
smile
on
their
face.
It
might
be
only
well.
They
have
on
their
face
that
particular
day,
so
we
truly
do
live
in
a
special
place
and
I
want
to.
D
A
B
A
B
So
governor
and
first
lady
Baker
mayor
Walsh
commissioners
sterling
we're
honored
to
be
here
we're
on
to
be
part
of
this
on
behalf
of
the
New
England
Center
and
home
for
veterans.
I
really
really
want
to
express
our
deepest
gratitude
and
appreciation
to
Steve
Diane
Cathy
in
the
entire
Massachusetts
military.
He
respond
mostly
to
the
community,
who
have
taken
their
time.
They've
taken
the
legacy
of
tragedy
of
loss
of
trauma
from
15
years
ago
today
and
turn
that
into
a
community
engagement.
B
That's
we're
going
to
take
that
and
we're
going
to
use
that
and
distribute
it
to
veterans
in
need,
and
that
will
be
on
the
thirtieth
of
this
month
at
the
Greater
Boston
veterans
stand
down
which
will
be
held
at
the
ibew
103
pro
compound
over
in
Boston
and
Dorchester
neighborhood
here
on
the
30
this
month.
So
on
behalf.
A
The
quotes,
thank
you
all
very
much
for
coming
for
your
the
work
you
have
done
today
for
the
work.
You
will
continue
to
do
today
as
we
get
ready
and,
most
importantly,
for
taking
this
day
and
again
for
remembering
what
happened,
but
by
honoring
that
sacrifice
through
service
and
through
working
every
day
to
make
sure
this
isn't
just
a
sad
David,
it's
a
day
of
action
today
of
taking
back
September
level
three
service,
and
we
couldn't
be
prouder
to
have
you
guys
all
along
as
strong
supporters
and
partners
in
this
effort.
