A
As
we
gather
for
this,
our
tenth
annual
Memorial
Day
ceremony
on
Boston
Common,
we
are
humbled
and
honored
to
have
so
many
of
the
families
we
serve
here
with
us.
Yesterday,
this
plot
of
land
behind
me
became
sacred
ground
after
700
committed
volunteers,
helped
us
build
this
beautiful
flag
garden.
These
flags
honor
each
of
the
more
than
37,000
servicemembers
from
Massachusetts,
who
made
the
ultimate
sacrifice
for
our
country
going
back
to
the
Revolutionary
War,
and
these
flags
will
remain
in
place
until
Monday
night
at
sunset,
as
a
tribute
to
their
valor.
A
In
that
spirit,
we
will
soon
add
three
hundred
and
twenty-five
more
flags
when
we
read
the
names
of
the
sons
and
daughters
of
Massachusetts
who
gave
their
lives
for
the
cause
of
America
in
the
years
since
September
11th,
as
the
birthplace
of
our
revolution
and
of
our
democracy,
Massachusetts
has
always
stood
tall
in
defense
of
our
freedoms.
Generations
have
answered
the
call
to
service,
and
these
yet
flags
show
the
magnitude
of
their
sacrifice.
A
This
generation
has
been
no
different,
their
devotion
and
bravery
is
more
significant
than
words
can
describe,
but
we
come
together
to
honor
them
and
remember
them
and
the
families
they
left
behind
to
the
family
members.
Here
we
share
your
sadness
and
we
share
your
pride.
Our
country
has
been
strengthened
by
your
loved
ones
service
and
we
honor
their
sacrifice
by
speaking
their
names,
and
you
continue
to
inspire
us
with
your
resolve.
A
So
today
let
us
once
again
bow
our
heads
for
our
fallen
heroes,
but
let
us
also
rededicate
ourselves
to
keep
their
memories
alive,
to
draw
strength
from
their
courage
and
to
keep
faith
with
their
families
and
all
those
who
have
served
or
are
still
serving
to
ensure
they
get
the
care
benefits
and
support
they've,
so
justly
earned
and
deserve
on
in
on
this
day
and
every
day,
may
god
bless
america
and
may
God
shed
grace
on
the
fallen
and
their
families.
Thank
you.
A
It
is
now
my
privilege
to
introduce
the
governor
of
the
Commonwealth
of
Massachusetts,
the
governor's
administration,
including
lieutenant
governor
Pluto
and
secretary
Aranea,
worked
tirelessly
on
behalf
of
our
military
and
veteran
communities,
and
we
are
grateful
for
their
leadership.
Please
join
me
in
welcoming
our
governor
Charlie
Baker.
E
Good
morning,
let
me
just
start
by
thanking
all
of
the
family
members
who
are
here
today
to
speak
out
on
behalf
of
the
325
moms
and
dads
sons
and
daughters,
brothers
and
sisters
who
have
been
lost
since
September
11th
as
I
think
about
these
37
thousand
flags
behind
us
and
over
to
the
side
here.
I
can't
help
but
think
about
the
families
that
were
part
of
the
lives
of
those
that
we
honor
here
today.
E
E
Over
the
course
of
the
next
several
days
speak
volumes
about
how
that
debt
can
never
possibly
be
adequately
repaid,
but
I
want
to
thank
the
mass
military
heroes
fund
for
year
after
year
for
10
years,
giving
all
of
us
a
chance
in
our
own
small
way
to
honor
those
who
served
and
especially
to
say
thank
you
and
God
bless
from
a
grateful
Commonwealth
to
the
families
who
are
with
us
today.
Thank
you.
A
Is
now
my
great
honor
to
introduce
the
mayor
of
Boston
mayor
Walsh
is
a
strong
and
committed
champion
for
veterans
and
their
families,
and
he
is,
and
he
and
his
team
provide
tremendous
support
to
make
this
annual
flag
garden
possible
every
year.
Please
welcome
the
mayor
of
this
great
city,
mayor
Martin,
J,
Walsh,.
F
Thank
you
very
much
tom
and
to
everyone
at
masses,
military
heroes,
fun.
Thank
you
for
your
work
to
the
governor.
Thank
you
and
lieutenant
governor.
Thank
you
to
trans
general
Healy.
Thank
you
to
Francisco
Reyna,
the
Secretary
of
Veterans
Services.
Thank
you
in
the
city
of
Boston,
we're
joined
by
City
Council,
Eddie
Flynn,
that's
here
with
us,
Thank
You,
councillor
and
veteran
service,
Commissioner
Rob
Santiago
as
well,
is
with
us.
Thank
you
very
much
Robin
to
all
of
all
of
you
today.
I
want
to
thank
the
service
members
that
are
here
today,
men
and
women.
F
The
veterans
that
are
here,
and
especially
thank
you
to
our
families,
our
fallen
heroes.
This
day
is
often
a
very
powerful
day.
We
can
witness
the
birth
of
a
new
tradition,
but
all
these
past
few
years,
we've
seen
Memorial
Day,
flag
garden
here
on
Boston
Common
grow
and
the
events
that
happen
here
in
the
the
tens
of
thousands
of
people
that
will
walk
by
here
over
the
next
couple
of
days.
It's
become
part
of
our
city
in
our
state
Seoul,
because
it
expresses
a
powerfully
the
truth
that
connects
us
all
together.
F
It
brings
a
stunning
view
of
the
sacrifices
that
gave
our
nation
and
continue
to
protect
and
defend
our
way
of
life.
As
we
all
know,
each
of
these
flags
is
a
story.
Each
of
these
flags
is
a
person.
Each
of
these
flags
is,
it
is
a
family,
so
it's
a
privilege
to
be
here
once
again
to
honor
the
men
and
women
who
made
the
ultimate
sacrifice
for
our
country
and
to
honor
their
families,
who
lost
so
much
and
deserve
all
of
our
support.
I
want
to
thank
the
volunteers.
F
I
was
watching
on
TV
last
night,
the
700
volunteers
that
planted
over
37,000
flags
I
want
to
thank
you
for
that.
I
want
to
thank
you
for
doing
a
year
after
year
after
year,
they
represent
men
and
women
from
every
era
of
our
history,
from
every
town,
in
the
Commonwealth,
in
every
neighborhood,
in
the
city
of
Boston,
ordinary
boys
and
girls,
who
grew
up
to
become
heroes
because
they
stood
for
something
greater
than
themselves.
They
stood
for
all
of
us.
F
F
We
pledge
never
forget
their
comrades,
who
came
home
with
wounds
both
physically
and
mentally,
we're
equally
deserving
of
our
care
and
our
honor
and
our
support
in
a
few
minutes,
we're
going
to
hear
the
names
of
the
service
members
that
we've
lost
in
September
11th
2001
I
want
to
thank
the
family
members
of
those
heroes
who
are
with
us
today.
I
want
to
thank
you
for
being
with
us
every
day
and
I
want
you
to
know
that
we
stand
with
you
every
day,
and
we
want
to
continue
to
do
that.
F
We
honor
your
sacrifice
for
for
all
that
they,
your
family,
gave
to
us
and
that
your
family
is
doing
still
teaching
us.
The
individuals
that
which
that
we
mentioned
today
are
unique
individuals.
Yet
we
see
in
these
flags
what
they
shared
in
common,
the
love
for
their
country
in
their
courage
and
stepping
forward
and
serving
their
country
again.
Thank
you
once
again
for
bringing
us
together.
God
bless
our
heroes.
God
bless
those
who
love
them
and
God
bless
the
United
States
of
America.
A
Thank
You
mr.
mayor,
it's
great
to
have
representation
from
you
in
the
city.
I
know
Commissioner,
Finn
News,
a
Marine
veteran
here
is
here
as
well.
So
thank
you.
Commissioner.
Project
351
brings
together
an
eighth
grade
unsung
hero
for
each
of
the
Commonwealth's
351
cities
and
towns
for
a
year
of
service,
and
we
are
proud
to
partner
with
them
in
a
shared
mission
to
support
families
of
the
fallen
through
our
partnership.
We
ensure
the
rising
generation,
builds
knowledge,
appreciation
and
connection
to
the
patriotic
ideals
of
our
nation
project.
A
351
has
shown
special
devotion
to
the
Massachusetts
military
heroes,
Fund
and
I'm
pleased
to
introduce
one
of
their
young
leaders,
who
has
really
gone
gone
above
and
beyond.
Emily
Black
is
in
her
fourth
year
of
service
with
project
351,
and
is
it
a
junior
at
Westford,
high
school
Emily
and
her
peers
work
hard
to
ensure
that
the
service
and
sacrifice
of
the
fallen
is
honored
and
remembered
by
their
classmates
and
all
that
follow
them.
Please
welcome
Emily
black
up
to
the
stage
to
read.
We
remember
them.
G
Good
afternoon
my
name
is
Emily
black
I'm
from
Western
Massachusetts
and
I'm
honored
to
be
representing
project
351,
as
we
honor
and
remember
the
fallen.
We
remember
them
from
the
book
of
the
Jewish
prayer
at
the
rising
of
the
Sun
and
as
it's
going
down.
We
remember
them
at
the
blowing
of
the
wind
and
in
the
chill
of
winter.
We
remember
them
at
the
opening
of
the
buds
and
in
the
rebirth
of
spring.
We
remember
them
at
the
blueness
of
the
skies
and
in
the
warmth
of
summer.
G
We
remember
them
at
the
rustling
of
the
leaves
and
in
the
beauty
of
autumn.
We
remember
them
at
the
beginning
of
the
year
and
when
it
ends,
we
remember
them
as
long
as
we
live,
they
too
will
live,
for
they
are
now
part
of
us,
as
we
remember
them,
when
we
are
weary
and
need
of
strength,
we
remember
them
when
you're
lost
and
sick
at
heart.
We
remember
them
when
we
have
joy,
we
crave
to
share.
We
remember
them
when
we
have
decisions
that
are
difficult
to
make.
G
H
Good
morning,
it
is
an
honor
to
be
with
you
here
today
with
the
Massachusetts
military
heroes
fund.
I
have
the
privilege
of
introducing
the
most
sacred
part
of
the
program
and
this
annual
tradition
in
the
Commonwealth,
the
roll
call
of
the
name
of
the
brave
men
and
women
who
volunteered
ly
answer
the
call
since
September
1
11
of
2001.
They
gave
their
life
and
service
to
our
country.
It
is
important
for
this,
the
tenth
anniversary
of
this
tradition,
to
remember
why
we
read
these
names,
a
list
that
grows
longer
by
the
year.
H
Simply
put
we
read
the
names
to
connect
with
our
fallen.
We
read
the
names
to
remember
them.
We
read
the
names
to
honor
them.
We
read
the
names
to
dignify
them.
We
read
the
names
to
more
them
in
honoring
them.
We
honor
the
gold
star
families,
not
only
those
of
September
11,
but
all
of
the
gold
star
families
throughout
our
Commonwealth
and
around
our
country.
H
In
this
way,
we
fulfill
about
our
vow,
to
remember
and
to
honor
their
ultimate
sacrifice
today,
and
always
please
remain
silent
as
I
call
forth
our
dear
family
and
friends
of
our
brave
heroes
to
read
names
of
their
loved
ones
as
we
plant
a
final
flag
in
their
tribute
as
we
hear
leave
and
on
our
way
to
honor
on
Memorial
Day
and
throughout
this
weekend
their
sacrifice
and
let
us
live
our
lives
worthy
of
their
sacrifice.
Thank
you.
