From YouTube: 9th Annual Salesian Boys and Girls Club Breakfast
Description
The Salesian Boys and Girls Club has been a staple in the East Boston community since 1945 and has seen generations of children grow up. Mayor Walsh and Governor Baker speak in support of the work the club does for East Boston's youth at its annual breakfast.
A
B
Ladies
and
gentlemen,
we're
going
to
have
some
presentations
now
major
presentations
at
this
time.
You
know,
programs
like
this
Boys
and
Girls
Club
don't
go
like
this.
One
does
doesn't
grow
into
thousands
of
kids,
it
stays
at
a
few
hundred
kids
and
it
doesn't
go
into
massive
fundraisers
like
this,
and
the
only
reason
we're
allowed
to
have
this
success
is
because
of
the
man
I'm
going
to
introduce
right
now,
I'd
like
to
introduce
the
executive
director
of
the
Boys
and
Girls
Club
here
in
his
Boston
father,
John
Lazaro.
A
A
A
He
worked
at
a
variety
of
jobs,
then
running
for
State
Representative
in
207
represented
East
Boston
until
he
was
taken
away
by
our
governor
as
his
legislative
assistant,
I
mean
that
good
taste
he
presently
is
a
partner
with
Smyth,
Costello
and
Crawford.
Kalo
has
two
handsome
young
boys
College
una
and
Christian,
who
mean
the
world
to
him
along
with
his
mom
his
brothers,
an
entire
family
Paolo
nine
years
ago,
approached
me
about
having
an
annual
breakfast
and
was
the
driving
force
which
has
brought
us
today
to
our
ninth
annual
breakfast.
A
C
Thank
you.
Thank
you.
I'm
just
going
to
say
a
couple
of
words.
I
know
everybody
has
to
get
to
work.
We
have
folks
that
have
to
leave,
but
I
think
this
is
real.
Important
I,
don't
share
my
story
with
too
many,
but
I
feel
the
need
this
morning.
Just
to
show
you
how
important
it
is
that
how
much
you
give
in
your
donation
means
that
the
children
mom
lost
dad
when
I
was
seven.
Four
boys
have
told
the
story
a
couple
of
times
but
haven't
gone
to
speed
for
boys.
C
She
was
supporting
Sheen
speak
a
word
of
English.
She
was
a
seamstress.
She
had
to
support
her
family.
She
couldn't
afford
daycare
and
mom
was
very
proud.
She
wouldn't
take
a
handout
from
anyone,
but
what
we
did
have
was
the
Silesians
at
the
time
boys
club,
not
girls,
club
girls,
weren't
even
allowed
on
the
property.
It's
a
good
reason
at
the
time.
Thank
God
could
have
been
even
worse
for
me,
but
are
the
four
boys
yours
truly
straight
away
from
being
a
an
upstanding
young
kid.
C
C
C
Took
a
chance
on
somebody
from
East
Boston
in
his
work
that
they
couldn't.
He
really
truly
cares
about
everybody
in
this
Commonwealth.
We
need
more
Wally
pose
I,
ask
each
and
every
one
of
you
just
don't
let
it
be
about
this
breakfast
this
morning,
Wally
posed
saved
somebody
and
was
just
me
just
saved,
but
I
could
talk,
speak
of
my
personal
story
reach
out
and
help
my
child.
C
Not
all
of
us
grew
up
with
two
parents,
and
I
would
argue
that
today,
most
kids
don't
grow
up
with
two
parents.
This
is
our
means,
the
world
to
me.
I,
never
thought
being
in
the
boys
club
at
the
time
that
all
the
havoc
I
caused
now
I'm
being
recognized
by
the
club,
but
I
truly
appreciate
each
and
every
one
of
you
being
here
supporting
father,
Joe
and
father
John.
You
do
God's
work.
Thank
you.
C
D
D
D
Well,
the
simple
truth
of
the
matter
is
part
of
what
makes
organizations
like
this
so
successful,
because
every
kid
who
comes
through
that
door
feels
like
they're
special
and
for
a
lot
of
kids
in
a
lot
of
situations
in
a
lot
of
circumstances
who
don't
feel
particularly
special
most
of
the
time.
This
ends
up
being,
for
all
intents
and
purposes,
the
one
place
where
they
do
feel
special,
where
they
do
feel
appreciated,
where
they
do
feel
supported
and
what
they
do
feel
like
they're
part
of
a
team
are
part
of
a
family.
D
D
That's
just
a
fact
and
organizations
like
this
one
help
turn
kids
into
adults
and
I
can't
tell
you
how
many
times
over
the
course
of
my
life
I've
run
into
friends
of
mine
who
grew
up
in
one
community
or
another.
Many
from
tough
backgrounds
and
I
say
what
happened
and
they
say
the
Boys
and
Girls
Club
saved
me.
The
boys
club
saved
me.
The
girls
club
saved
me,
Girls,
Inc
saved
me.
D
D
Just
like
every
single
one
of
God's
children
is
special
and
for
all
of
you
are
here
this
morning,
you're
supporting
a
wonderful
community
organization.
The
year
after
year
after
year,
puts
its
heart
and
its
soul
into
building
a
stronger
and
better
East
Boston,
but,
most
importantly,
helping
kids
find
their
path,
helping
them
figure
out
what
they're
good
at
happening
speak,
helping
them
figure
out
what
their
possibilities
are
and
helping
them
turn
those
possibilities
and
the
opportunities.
D
This
isn't
the
first
time
I've
been
here.
It's
not
the
last
time
I'll
be
here
but
I'm
here,
because
I
believe
organizations
like
this
really
matter
and
you're
coming
out
and
supporting
it
this
morning
is
a
big
statement
about
how
you
feel
about
your
neighborhood
and
about
your
community
and
I.
Do
want
to
say
Carlo
that
I
think
it's
wonderful
that
they
gave
you
that
award,
because
I've
gotten
to
know
you
over
the
course
of
my
time
in
public
life,
and
you
are
a
very
special
guy
and
you
bring
tremendous
assets
to
any
organization.
D
I
remember
my
dad
said
one
time
we
reached
into
the
dinner
table.
The
whole
family
was
talking
and
my
mom
and
dad
were
back
and
forth
on
one
of
his
friends
and
my
dad
said:
that's
a
guy
I'd
put
give
my
back
to
in
a
foxhole
and
I.
Remember
thinking
the
time.
I
have
no
idea
what
my
father
just
said,
but
it
sounded
really
cool
and
Carla
you're,
the
kind
of
guy
who
anybody
knows
they
could
give
you
their
give
them
their
back
in
a
foxhole,
and
that
would
be
just
fine.
Everything
would
work
out.
D
Carlo
Carlo
calls
me
up.
He
goes
in
traffic
and
I
said:
dude
I've
been
driving
that
road
everyday
for
30
years,
killing
me
or
strangle
somebody
so
I'm
more
than
aware
of
what's
going
on
out
there,
and
it
has
the
full
attention
of
the
administration
and
of
the
city
and
we're
going
to
fix
it.
I
hope
you
all
have
a
great
day.
B
A
A
He
turned
the
struggling
lumber
business
into
his
father's
land
into
a
thriving
company
that
outgrew
the
space.
The
success
of
Liverpool
number
launched
Rich's
entrepreneurial
spirit
into
the
development
of
three
successful
East
Boston
based
businesses,
including
pack,
and
fly
Logan
Communications,
which
is
an
outside
advertising
company,
as
well
as
maintaining
a
real
estate
management
company
on
broader
Street
that
houses,
the
East
Boston
neighborhood
health
center.
As
a
committed
father
of
his
two
children.
A
Richard's
awareness
of
the
importance
of
childhood
development
is
direct
correlation
to
fostering
a
strong
community
and
has
been
paramount
in
his
life,
which
its
connection
with
East
Boston
is
reflective
of
his
care
for
the
community
itself
through
charitable
ties
that
involve
empowering
the
youth
and
education
of
our
children
that
are
raised
here.
Mr.
Goldberg
has
been
a
beacon
to
our
young
people
at
the
Silesian
Boys
and
Girls
Club,
and
it
is
with
great
honor.
The
Silesian
Boys
and
Girls
Clubs
presents
mr.
Richard
Goldberg
with
the
2017
Silesian
Community
Service
Award.
B
E
E
I
want
to
first
of
all
thank
yo
Ruggiero
for
what
he
does
for
the
club
and
everything
he
does
at
all
he's
a
dear
friend
of
known
for
a
long
time.
Thank
you.
Joe,
for
all
you
did
at
diamond.
I
also
want
to
thank
Joe
Stefan
on
the
board,
the
entire
board
here.
How
about
nice,
Rana,
Plaza
deployed
directors
at
this
great
club
and.
E
I
know
I'm,
there's
a
bunch
of
elected
officials
who
have
come
in
and
out
of
here,
I
want
to
thank
Adrian
for
his
work.
What
he's
done
he's
quickly
become
the
Dean
of
the
delegation
in
East
Boston,
so
on
any
a
shoulders
big
enough
to
carry
that
and
I
know
that
he
cares
about
the
kids
of
our
community.
So
I
want
to
thank
Adrian
I.
Think.
E
E
E
And
if
I'm
missing,
all
the
governor's
ta
took
off
one
thank
the
governor
to
just
real
quick
I
want
to
congratulate
mr.
Goldberg
and
my
friend
Connor
basil,
for
for
the
recognition
tonight
at
this
great
club,
I
spent
18
years
on
the
Boys
and
Girls
Clubs
of
Georgia's
board
and
I
know
the
impact
that
a
club
can
make
in
young
people's
lives
and
father
John.
I
know
he's
flown
around
here.
I
wanna
thank
your
father
for
everything
you
too,
as
well.
E
E
It
also
works
with
single
families,
and
it's
important
it's
important
for
us
to
remember
that
and
one
one
thing
that
I
talk
about
a
lot
is
that
in
Boston,
when
you
look
at
the
crime,
stats
they're
all
going
down
for
the
most
part,
but
there's
one
crime,
stat
that
I'm
really
proud
of,
and
that's
the
arrests
in
the
last
three
years
in
the
City
of
Austin.
If
you
include
this
year's
numbers,
arrests
are
down
nearly
forty
percent
in
three
years
in
the
city
of
Boston.
E
Now
those
arrest
numbers
are
down
not
because
the
police
aren't
doing
their
job.
Those
arrest
numbers
are
down
because
of
Silesian
Boys
and
Girls
Clubs
and
organizations
like
this
and
organizations
like
many
of
you
in
this
room,
who
have
been
doing
things
over
the
years
that
have
helped
put
young
people
on
a
pathway
to
success,
so
we're
in
this
together
and
I
want
to
just
I
want
to
wish
this
lesion
is
another
great
year
coming
up
as
we
move
forward.
E
A
B
F
F
Elena
has
been
coming
to
the
club
since
she
was
an
elementary
school
during
her
time
here.
She
has
actively
participated
in
all
of
our
programs
and
has
volunteered
over
200
service
hours,
the
schoolroom.
She
helps
out
regularly
in
our
guardian
angel
program,
which
serves
our
youngest
members,
ages,
6
and
7.
She
is
kind
understanding
and
the
type
of
person
who
will
do
anything
that
is
asked
of
her
with
a
smile.
F
Elena
speaks
out
confidently
against
confidently
for
causes
such
as
anti
bullying,
cyber
bullying
and
maintaining
a
healthy
lifestyle.
She
stands
up
to
many
of
the
pressures,
our
team's
fees,
such
as
smoking,
drugs
and
the
dangers
of
teenage
drinking.
We
are
proud
and
excited
to
introduce
to
you,
the
2017
youth
of
the
year,
Elena
somos.
G
Good
morning,
everyone,
my
name,
is
Elena,
so
Luis
and
I
would
like
to
start
off
by
thanking
the
belle-isle
Rotary
Club
for
their
generous
scholarship,
as
well
as
the
99
restaurant,
for
their
support
to
the
club
throughout
the
years.
I
want
to
thank
Nicole,
father,
John
and
the
staff
for
choosing
me
to
represent
the
club
as
the
2017
youth
of
the
year
I
started
coming
to
the
Boys
and
Girls
Club
when
I
was
8
years
old
and
has
always
been
a
second
home.
G
For
me,
it
is
like
a
it
is
a
safe
and
positive
place
to
come
to
every
day
where
I
met
many
of
my
friends
and
gain
countless
memories
of
summer
camp.
In
the
after
school
program,
the
kids
and
staff
have
helped
me
become
a
better
person
inside
and
outside
of
the
club.
They
are
always
there
to
guide
me,
listen
and
help
me
make
good
decisions.
G
They're,
like
family
members
to
me,
I
want
to
thank
Kathy's,
Johnny,
Danielle's,
Steve,
Mary,
Nicole
and
father
John
for
all
the
support
throughout
the
years,
as
well
as
the
former
staff
members.
Last
but
not
least,
I
would
like
to
thank
my
family
and
friends
for
sticking
by
my
side
through
everything
and
sending
me
to
the
Boys
and
Girls
Club
throughout
the
years.
Thank
you
all
for
being
here
this
morning
and
believing
in
all
the
young
kids
at
our
club
have
a
great
day.
B
You
know
when
he's
frosting
we're
very
lucky,
because
all
the
elected
officials
that
came
in
representatives
Boston
are
our
friends
they're
available
24/7.
They
work
hard.
They
are
there
on
just
the
job
whenever
you
need
them.
The
first
one
is
a
newly
elected
in
the
group
of
the
three
he's
from
Winthrop,
but
he's
taking
care
of
his
Boston
like
it's
his
own
he's
a
great
individual,
senator
chil,
bong
Corey.
H
Thank
you,
john
o'b,
another
hand
for
joe
and
all
he
does
to
this
community.
I
just
want
to
thank
you
all
for
coming
out.
I
want
to
thank
this
allegiance
for
all.
They
do
for
the
children
TV
spots
and
the
teenagers
of
east
boston
and
eventually
the
adults
of
East
Boston.
The
Silesians
is,
you
know,
such
a
part
of
the
rolling
into
the
fabric
of
our
community
and
I
couldn't
be
more
thankful
for
all
the
work
as
father
John
does,
and
just
to
were
a
word
on
your
odds
on
Bosco
Award
recipient.
H
H
You
know
when
Paulo
is
in
the
House
of
Representatives
use
a
chairman
of
Veterans
Affairs
and
coming
in
to
Memorial
Day,
it's
important
to
remember
all
of
our
veterans,
especially
ones
that
pay
the
ultimate
sacrifice.
But
we
should
note
that
when
Kyle
was
chairman
of
Veterans
affair,
Affairs
Massachusetts
passed
two
landmark
pieces
of
legislation
to
ensure
that
Massachusetts
is
the
number
one
state
in
the
country
for
veteran
services
and
that's
remarkable
work
by
a
remarkable
man,
a
product
of
the
Silesian
Boys
and
Girls
Club.
H
So
I
want
to
thank
you
for
helping
the
next
and
whoever
else
is
coming
through
the
Legion,
Boys
and
Girls
Club,
and
just
remember
you
gave
today
there's
always
opportunities
to
give.
These
scholarships
are
so
important
and
they
go
such
a
long
way
and
when
you
do
dig
in
and
give
$1,000
you
may
be,
you
may
be
give
the
money
to
the
next
representative
of
East
Boston.
I
Thank
You
senator
good
morning,
everybody,
it's
so
great
to
be
here
like
Kyllo,
and
so
many
others
in
the
room.
I
am
a
proud
product
of
the
Boys
and
Girls
Club.
In
fact,
every
time
I
walk
into
this
building
a
flood
of
positive
and
happy
memories.
Come
into
my
mind,
because
this
is
where
my
friends
and
I
grew
up.
I
Every
day
after
school,
we
played
all
in
the
stone
all
the
sports
leagues
here,
I
did
summer
camp
here
and
when
I
aged
on
a
summer,
camp
I
had
my
first
summer
job
at
the
Boys
and
Girls
Club
as
a
camp
counselor.
So
this
place
really
it
holds
a
special
place
in
my
heart.
This
is
a
tremendous
organization,
and
that
doesn't
happen
alone.
Father
John
has
a
tremendous
staff.
I
want
to
give
the
staff
of
the
club
one
more
round
of
applause.
