41st Parliament
NOVEMBER 20 2019 Statements Ian Paton
A
Number
delta,
so
thank
you.
Mr
Speaker
I
rise
today
to
pay
tribute
to
a
friend
and
a
local
icon,
Vicky
sangster,
who,
at
age
62
passed
away
a
few
weeks
ago
after
a
five
and
a
half
year
long
battle
with
cancer.
Vicky
Sangster
was
a
tireless
volunteer
in
Delta,
with
a
passion
for
giving.
Everyone
in
Delta
knew
that
if
he
wanted
to
get
something
done,
you
gave
it
to
Vicky
as
a
proud
Rotarian
Vicky
was
awarded
Rotarian
of
the
Year,
the
Paul
Harris
fellow
award,
and
an
honorary
lifetime
membership.
A
As
a
Rotarian
Vicky
was
involved
in
many
community
building
projects
across
Delta.
Her
greatest
accomplishment
in
the
community
was
championing
the
rotary
water
park
and
musical
garden
in
Diefenbaker
Park
into
awesome.
Vicky
later
became
an
advisor
for
the
Ladner
rotary
water
park.
In
addition
to
her
work
with
rotary
Vicky
was
a
director
with
the
Delta
Sports
Hall
of
Fame
and
a
team
leader
with
the
butterflies
at
the
Delta
hospice
cottage.
A
She
also
volunteered
countless
hours
making
soup
for
food
on
the
corner
in
2014,
Vicky
was
honored
for
her
extraordinary
contributions
to
our
community
and
awarded
Delta's
Citizen
of
the
year.
In
the
spring
of
2014,
Vicky
received
the
devastating
diagnosis.
While
this
terminal
diagnosis
did
not
define
her,
it
did
form
the
root
of
her
journey
for
the
next
five
and
a
half
years
with
their
family
by
your
side.
Vicky
vet
valiantly
fought
the
fight
and
became
a
medical
miracle
in
the
process.
A
During
this
time,
and
without
a
single
complaint,
she
continued
to
live
her
best
life
and
enjoyed
many
trips
and
amazing
moments
with
their
family
and
friends.
Her
zest
for
life
was
a
true
inspiration
to
everyone
she
encountered.
Two
weeks
ago,
a
remembrance
service
was
held
for
Vicky.
It
was
truly
inspiring
to
see
hundreds
of
people
from
all
walks
of
life
come
to
pay
tribute
to
Vicky.
Her
life
was
made.
Her
life
has
made
an
impact
on
so
many
if
anyone's
lift
a
list
of
a
complement
was
half
as
long
as
hers.
A
It
would
be
said
that
that
person
lived
a
full
and
impactful
life.
Vicky
is
survived
by
her
husband,
Dawn
and
her
three
daughters,
Sonia
Bridget
and
Deana,
and
her
granddaughter
autumn
Vicky's
motto
in
life.
Was
you
only
live
once
Yolo
and
what
a
life
she
lived?
She
was
a
true
icon
in
the
community
and
a
true
inspiration
to
all
who
knew
her.
Thank
you.
