friends
gathered
to
honor
the
passing
of
a
Canadian
sporting
icon,
Eli
pasquale
Eli
was
born
on
August
24th
1960
in
Sudbury
Ontario
Elia,
Eli's
basketball
career
took
off
the
University
of
Victoria.
He
led
UVic
to
five
straight
CIA.
U
championships
still
holds
a
title
as
a
school's,
all-time
leading
scorer
and
had
his
jersey,
number,
13,
retired
and
hanging
in
the
rafters
in
1983
World
University
Games.
A
He
and
his
teammates
won
the
gold
medal
by
defeating
the
United
States,
led
by
Charles
Barkley
and
Karl
Malone,
and
in
the
semi
finals
and
in
the
finals
defeating
Yugoslavia,
led
by
Drazen
Petrovic
in
the
fall
in
1984
NBA
Draft.
He
was
drafted
by
the
Seattle
SuperSonics.
A
hundred
and
six
overall
Elie
proudly
represented
the
Canadian
national
team
at
various
levels.
A
Over
15
years
he
led
her
country
to
a
fourth
place
finish
in
the
1984
Olympics
and
sixth
finished
in
the
1982
FIBA
World
Championships
pasquale
later
inducted
into
the
Canadian
Basketball
Hall
of
Fame
in
2003
and
BC
Sports
Hall
of
Fame
in
2004
to
say.
Eli's
death
is
a
huge
loss
to
the
basketball.
Community
is
a
massive
understatement.
He
accomplished
his
accomplishments
in
sport
and
art
for
our
country
secures
his
place
as
one
of
the
nation's
most
celebrated
athletes.
His
greatest
legacy
is
the
work
he
did
with
young
people.
A
He
was
a
role
model
and
played
an
important
role
in
so
many
young
people's
lives,
I,
remember
being
in
awe
of
him
when
my
parents
signed
me
up
for
his
basketball
camp
I
looked
up
to
him,
and
so
did
so
many
of
my
peers
on
behalf
of
all
members
of
this
house,
I
would
like
to
send
condolences
to
his
family
to
his
wife,
Karen,
his
sons,
Isiah
Manny,
his
brother
Vito,
his
sister
Lucina
and
his
mother
Adriana.
